    I don't think OP let any mistreatment happen. Simply picked up where she was lacking making sure the animals were well taken care, and the kennel lead was also in charge of making sure she was doing her job right.

      My sister in law boarded her 2 cats that also had a vets. She left instructions that they were to be kept apart at feeding time as one would eat all the food. 2 weeks later she picked up her cats, brought out in their carriers. When she got home the timid one was skin and bone. She did not last long after this.2 weeks roughly. The other cat missed his sister and followed within 6 months.

    The last story,I have an opinion, OP didn't tell on her because he knew about her kids and it was things that could be chalked up to a bad day or stress. He was able to take care of it easily enough so it wasn't a big problem. He was pushed past the line when he saw the long term of what KA did when he saw his cat after only 6 days. If that's how the animal would be after only a week then she's worse off than he thought and it was then handled properly.

  • @Daniel_Coffman

    To be *sort of* fair to the cat owner, it is very easy to fall into the "It's not my problem until it affects me" trap. There are a lot of people who are like that, and it certainly does suck.
    However, one cannot say that they literally did nothing about it until just then. They did say that they told the lead about it when they noticed it, and someone who was fully into the aforementioned trap might not have ever even told the kennel lead about it in the first place. The lead said they were working on it, and the poster thought that would be it. As easy as it is to fall into the aforementioned trap, it's also easy to fall into the, "They said they're working on it, so it should be fine," trap.
    Overall, I can't say the hate on that poster is *as* warranted as everyone's making it out to be. They *did* make some prior attempt. That is better than if they would have never attempted at all until it came to their cat.

    The OP in the second story was totally in the right, if that was how she treated a co-workers pet, who knows how she's treating the others.
    And if someone was mistreating a beloved pet to the point of abuse you would do whatever it takes to get revenge on your pets behalf.

    I think Cat OP was definitely in the right. Also, it sounds like this was the first time that she just outright abused an animal in the clinic (to this point) because OP wasn't there to fix every little mistake. And I would totally go scorched earth for my cat.
    My sister was taking care of my cat for a week and a half while I was away for the holidays. I knew that she wouldn't go down and play with her, because she was allergic, but my kitty was old and slept most of the day anyway. Sis went down to feed her and scoop the litterbox. I had set a container of food next to the food bowls so that Sis didn't have to trek all the way to the storage room to get food out of the big container, but she ran out of the small container the day before I got back. When I got home and saw the empty bowl, I asked Sis how long they'd been empty, and she said "oh, since yesterday." I asked "Why didn't you call me to find out where more was?" "Well, I figured that you would be coming home today, so it didn't matter." I was absolutely flabbergasted. Now, I was living in her house rent-free, so I couldn't exactly do anything, but I was super pissed. In fact, two years later, and I am STILL super pissed whenever I think about it. If I had done that to her rats or her rabbit, it would have been the end of the freaking world. But my cat doesn't matter? *breathe* *breathe*

    Sounds like the last OP never really got the chance to see how bad they were. Either op was always picking up after them so it never got that bad or just all the weight went on him.

The actions he took after he saw the quality of their care without someone picking up the slack is something everyone should do.

    It was the kennel leads job to make sure she was following contract and doing her job. OP sounds like he had to go to the manager above hers and you need more proof most of the time or they well write these things off and just give a note with nothing changing. It sounded like she needed the whole thing to be removed from abusing more pets.

    OP in that last story never once said the lady was mistreating OTHER pets before theirs- they just said she was shit at her job. the job involves a lot more than direct pet welfare. ALSO even if it did sometimes impact the animals, since the OP presumably likes and looks after pets well, and they said they and the manager were covering her mistakes till then, if she forgot to give a pet water or whatever they obviously took care of it themselves and manager was meant to be handling it so she'd get better or whatever.

    I dont get why the second story op is getting so much flak. He said in his story, he gripes but picks up after KA. He is doing something about it. Even at the end, he notes he does far better than both of them.
    Secondly, it's not like he said he was completely selfless. He said he has his boundaries and can let everything go if it didn't cross those boundaries. He knew her performance, and did what was required. It isn't his fault KL didn't do anything about KA and OP still picked up after KA. If he didn't do "a damn thing" like people mentioned. I don't think the business as a whole would've survived. Allow me to explain. If KA has such a large clientele of petsitting ("2-3 gigs a week..."), That, at least to me, tells me the kennel service itself is pretty large. People were still coming in. I can almost bet those 6 days OP left, there will be a few people who collected their pets and vowed never to return. That isn't OP's fault. He is innocent in my eyes

    Op in the final story wasn't the bad guy, he cleaned up the assistant's messes constantly and made sure the animals were taken care of, amongst other things. His cat is apart of his family, so how would it have felt to have your kid or sibling be abused for six days by someone you thought could be trusted to do it? And don't forget that he did this because it was for free, and that the assistant really should have been doing her job better after the multiple f### ups she did. So in reality, op was NOT the bad guy in the slightest. Also the assistant really shouldn't have been doing the pet sitting thing without permission of the company, because that was going to lead to her being fired as well.

Ok, he gave them lots of chances to fix their behavior and the animals in their care didn't suffer, as OP fixed whatever needed to be handled. He trusted them to at least care for his cat - not unreasonable. They did what they did, so OP decided to assist, but only by reporting what he had previously fixed, without reporting, what KA and KL were doing. Personally, I think OP had every right, and actually they needed to be stopped anyway as what would happen if OP moved to another job without first fixing the problem of KA and KL. THAT would have left animals in distress. OP just protected the animals, including those being "pet sit" customers as who knows what kind of care those animals were getting with no supervision at all over KA in that situation. OP did right!

    OP was not wrong in the pet story. He said the people in charge were already aware of it, they should have taken care of the problem. He doesn't get paid to do their job for them. He was totally in the right to stand up for his own pet. He doesn't have to get paid for that, its' his pet.

    Not in a related field, but I've been in situations with ineffectual coworkers. Instead of the job not getting done, I take up the slack as best as possible, organizing the coworkers to what strengths they may have, and get the job done right. There's been times when an inspection could have gotten half the line fired for various misconducts, but I was pulling up enough slack that we avoided such inspections on night shift.
    It's faster than getting management to sort the problem out, and usually gets better results.
    From some of the wording choices, it sounds like OP was in that same situation of carrying useless fucktrophies to success.

    It's very human to ignore the suffering of others until it happens to you. Anyone can look at examples of global suffering and instead of doing something about (donation time or money) they care for their own. Its quite normal. Justice for the cat did help others in the long run.

What about all the others that you could have stopped? Pets can be traumatized too. Unacceptable. I would have fired those 2 and then addressed OP, why he didn't say something sooner, then I would have said "and because you did nothing/said nothing, you're fired too!

    I believe I heard you read OP had went behind her and corrected her mistakes. So all you people who are against OP, he tried to help her. When he found the condition of his cat, I can assume he realized all the things she did (or didn’t) do while he was gone. I believe this had to be part of the reason to get rid of her. All I could think of was how many children daycares let employee children stay for free. Lord, please don’t let her get a job at a daycare!

    Have to agree that if OP had prior knowledge of the poor performance from the other two boarding assistants and did nothing than he’s complicit in allowing it to continue and responsible for what happened to those other pets. That’s very selfish and not the kind of person who should work there. Never turn a blind eye to abuse/neglect. Always speak up.

      2. OP was picking up the slack of KA's bad work ethic.
      3. The full scale of mistreastment only occurred because OP wasn't there to pick up the slack.

    He should of said something earlier yes. HOWEVER most of those offenses she had could have very well been considered animal abuse. In which given enough evidence warrants jail time. The business could have also gotten her for deposition of character against the business. Her bad work ethic could have very well destroyed the business. I would have gone SOOO much farther than just getting rid of her at the work place. Think about it if she has the audacity to Treet helpless animals like that how does she treat her own children???

    I'm conflicted in that last story... yes, OP was selfish for only reporting KA's screw-ups when his own cat was the victim, but at the same time, I can't be mad at him: he was protective of KA because he was originally friends with her, and I can relate to that.

    • @DemonRaticate
      @DemonRaticate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He was also fixing her screw ups and reported it to the Lead. So when he was there, the pets weren’t being mistreated and the Lead said he was training her. With that I can say most people would give the duo the benefit of the doubt to do better. Christmas break was really just the point where OP realized nothing was getting better.

    • @thevoidismyhome7242
      @thevoidismyhome7242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      OP had griped and spoke to KL prior to their cat being the victim and KL had said it was handled. And OP had been picking up the slack. As far as OP knew prior to seeing their cat, KL had been handling KA. It was only after seeing their cat that OP realized KL wasn't handling it and took it further.

      Logically they wouldn't have been mistreated because he would've been there to fix her mistakes. He even says as much in the post. I don't know why he expected her to somehow magically improve though and all of a sudden be good enough to take care of his cat. Seems naive.

    I think OP of cat story was partial guilty to let that thing escalate so far, but the main problem was the KL-s lack of managing skills. KL should have written up KA already much earlier for the faults KA done and KA shouldn't be at that position for a long time as the events escalated. So mainly nope OP is not the absolute a.hole the situation but has some guilt on it.
