  • This is an updated shop and toolbox tour now that I have been in the shop working for the past 5+ years. A few things have changed and a few pieces of equipment have been added.
    Here is a link to the original shop and toolbox tour that I did back in early 2018 if interested.

    I have the same snapon cart but it has a extra shelf. Always in use. I bought it used in 1987. Mine still in fantastic shape. Even the rubber liners on each shelf are like new. I can only dream of having that much garage space and being so organized. My main work area is only 9xx sq ft and so cramped with equipment taking most of space. Side garage is mostly storage and houses my 4 post lift but the Big N CrewCab on it for over a year now.

    • @zmotorsports62
      @zmotorsports62  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I know what it's like to be cramped for space as my last shop was only 1100 sq/ft yet with pretty much all the same equipment that is in this shop. Had to go outside to change my mind. 🤣
      We ran our speed shop and campaigned our little race operation out of that small shop for 25 years before moving to our forever home in late 2016 and building my dream shop in 2017.
      There's no way I could go back to our old shop as it is so nice to have enough space to move around when working and have multiple things going on.

    Great tour Mike. The effort and professionalism in your shop is so apparent. Good to see the new tools and layout has worked so well for you. Loved the tease of the Camaro without showing it. 👍🏻
    Curious what tap and dies you like or recommend. I have some cheap ones but looking to upgrade.
    I’ve been looking at welders also. Curious what you think of the 211. I’m looking at the Miller 220 because I’m looking for the Mig/Tig combo. But that 211 I’ve heard several people recommend it, but would you take it as your only machine?
    I’ll need to wait until we have a bigger space before I could justify the floor space to multiple machines.

    • @zmotorsports62
      @zmotorsports62  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much for continuing to follow along Paul. I appreciate you watching and for the comments. Stay tuned for some Camaro vids in the near future as I commence work to zero it out and make it or own.
      When it comes to taps and dies I prefer good quality HSS sets for stability and longevity over standard carbon sets. Also the good quality HSS are actually made for thread cutting whereas most inexpensive, even named brand sets, are made of carbon steel and are really only designed for thread "chasing" but get marketed and sold as used for thread cutting. They can and do function ok for general use but if you plan on doing much in the way of thread cutting I recommend a good set of HSS taps and dies. I like Greenfield, Butterfield, OSG or Norseman HSS thread cutting tools myself.
      As for welders, I have not had the best of luck with multi-process machines. I've had a couple over the years, mainly earlier in my career and found that they will do one function better than another. For multi-process you need a machine that does CC (constant current) which is usually used for TIG welding and CV (constant voltage) used for MIG welding.
      I prefer to have dedicated machines for this reason as they do the operation that they were designed for much better than a multi-process machine.
      Now that being said, my experience was with the older transformer machines so maybe the newer technology using inverter based welder will be different. I have no personal experience with the new Miller 220 but I have read the reviews and people did seem to like it. If I were you I would go to your local welding supply store and see it they will let you play with one to get a feel for how it performs each operation.
      Sorry I couldn't be more help with that particular welder.
