    Wonderful. This is why I take every opportunity for seasonal and annual events to get into the old world zones. To hear the MIDIs play, and enjoy the ambience of the oldest zones.

    Ever since WoW came out games have lost the important elements of risk and adventure. Everquest 1 is a masterpiece.

      @evilsnox6830 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Name Noname 2004-2007 wow was risky and adventerous without being unnecessarily and stupidly dangerous

    • @namenoname3295

      +jared _ I disagree, nothing in wow came close to the excitement one felt when traveling through Norath and her dungeons with out a in game GPS or the fear of losing your corpse! WoW did to MMOs what welfare to the American people, deprive people of responsibilities. Wow is not a bad game its more of a cattle chute rail game.

    • @evilsnox6830
      @evilsnox6830 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Name Noname wow didn't have a gps until the 2nd expansion

      +Name Noname and there are hundreds of thousands more wow raiders with responsibilities than everquest raiders even today

      +jared _ because the game is easy so you get more raiders...they invented Pick up raids....

    Oh, so much nostalgia. EQ's music is still so evocative for me.

    Ah yes, Everquest. My first love.
    When nights were dark, exploration and danger meant excitement and the community was composed of 90% people who were best friend material.
    I'll never forget it. Classes, although admittedly simple compared to today's standards, had flavor. Wizards and Druids were helpful as they were your only means of fast travel (Don't get me started on what a bad idea Planes of Power was). Wandering alone at night, starving, and coming upon a helpful wizard who could create a light globe for you, and an Illusionist that could conjure up some food to get you through the night. The mysterious necromancers that could be called upon to help you find a corpse, and sail you through the night on wings of questionable magic...
    When game development focused on the importance of what the "MM" in "MMO" stood for; community and the necessity of friendship.
    Many of these songs I'm going to learn to play on my ocarina. I want to remember them forever.

      the magic of this game was brought out by the people who played it -- the pure definition of MMO. I'm sad to see that EQ is now the shadow of it's glory days, I use to think PoP was the beginning of the end, but when I played up to velious, that was when it was glorified, -- even when it was difficult. When friends ran me all the way from qeynos all the way to freeport -- that was a 2-3 hour journey after a week of hunting fire beetles and snakes -- then crying when you got BANDED armor...

    Unless you were in it for a long time no one can ever understand what EQ meant . It towers over WOW and all other similar games ( although no one can completely match WOW’s music, but EQ came long before that was technologically feasible). It was the players , our naïveté, and the novel nature of this first really 3D multiplayer game that brought it to life in a way never to be replicated.

    Lol yeah Zalen11. First time I went exploring, I took my wood elf ranger at lvl 3 and traveled to east commonlands and got killed by a bear. I was going outta my mind trying to remember how I got there and where I died. I miss those corpse runs to places like: The Hole, Splitpaw, Gukta (including LGuk) and Runnyeye. For old times sake: CAMP CHECK! :D

    Thank you for this! I loved Everquest and still think and hear of it's music fondly. My first MMORPG ever was EQ when I was around 8 years old, had no idea what it was or how to describe it haha my brother described it to me as a big chatroom like AOL you can walk around in. I was lost in Neriak for over an hour talking to NPCs thinking they were players "everybody just ignores me" I was thinking haha, good times.

    2:42 is far and away my favorite song from EQ. I remember hearing it when I was just a kid playing this game in 1999 and 2000 at the cabin in Qeynos Hills. That's the only place this song is played to my knowledge. So many of these songs have great memories. I miss old EQ so, so, so much. Damn shame that such a formative and important time in online gaming history has come and gone.

  • @apa123APA
    @apa123APA 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Baffles me to think back that there was a full group doing the 6min respawn gnolls at Splitpaw entrance. At each spire. Just one spawn of a mob every 6mins for a full grp of people, good grief.

    • @maragossep3492
      @maragossep3492 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +apa123APA Personally I miss the lack of pace of EQ. Modern MMO's gives very little time for interacting between players compared to EverQuest.
      Quests were rare, and felt like quests, and not just a 2 minute job. And the Epic Quests....those were unique, and still is to this day.
      They also had a lot more roles to a group of players, than DPS / Tank / Healer. You had CC, puller, Tank, DPS, healer, buffers. It was just much different from todays simple holy trinity.
      In many aspects, EQ was more complex than todays games.
      I wish they would make a game like EverQuest once again in the future.

    • @GimpyUnicorn
      @GimpyUnicorn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mara Gossep Modern MMOs are on rails, focusing on the end instead of the journey, holding your hand, and trying to get you to blast through it.
      They're nothing like Everquest, which felt like D&D made global.
      The memories aren't even necessarily about the game, but the time. We'll never be on the cusp of MMO evolution again, experiencing such things for the first time.
      The combination of gameplay and the elements within, mixed with the time period... no such combination will ever exist again.

    • @TheZombieCurryKid
      @TheZombieCurryKid 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They gave the jobs of cc, puller, and buffer to the 3 others in modern mmos, so as a single player you have more do to and it's actually more complicated to play.

    Ah, memories. Had more just pure fun at a low level 14 years ago than I have at 105 playing now. The community was so different, made such close friends most of which you would never even see in person.And the never ending and unknown horizons...what will that next zone be like and can we survive it?

    Its not the same Jonathan, The community back then, the game in general, the "newness" to it all. I mean, i used to remember being scared of stuff killing me in the dark and the sense of adventure that came from it. The internet didnt have much information about where to find stuff or what not, so the community really relied on each other.

    I'm starting to realize I'm never going to experience that feeling of original EverQuest again... and no, Project1999 does not capture it because its community is, generally speaking, quite different.

    Guys check out Project1999, it's as classic as you can get! Kunark is the only expansion atm, but they are only going up to Velious...and that comes out soon (finally! sheesh lol)

    • @Hijynx87
      @Hijynx87 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old spell gems , old spell effects, old char models, old pet models no revamped BS zones, it's 99% accurate I'd say... other than the UI...but you can grab the velious style UI or a classic-like ui.
