The downfall of the empire was inevitable by palatine’s death, at that point they should’ve just pulled out and try to hold imperial fortress worlds and maintain that grip
But what was the point they average Imperial Stromtroopers knew there was no point of holding a planet or base for the Empire because there was no Empire anymore so many deserted and joined the New Republic or became mercenaries for criminal gangs
This makes so much more sense with the timeline in Legends where it took fourteen years of attrition through Warlordism, desertion,, defections and war against the New Republic and other threats to grind the Empire down to 8 sectors that had to surrender. Having the entire Empire dissolve in a single year is simply farcical to imagine. There's no example in history of an Empire with all its centers of power, logistics and resources still in its control to dissolve or be conquered in a single year. The Qin, Han, Jin and Qing dissolved into Warlordism for years(decades in the Han and Qing case) Rome and the Byzantines, the Mongol Empire, the great colonial empires, the Nazis, Fascists and Imperials of WWII and the Communist Block all took years to dismantle and that's just a single world example. The writers of the Aftermath Trilogy, Battlefront II and the DisCan Sequel Trilogy have no understanding of history, logistics or how Empire's die in how they portrayed the fall of the Empire. It completely ignores that the Empire was the guarantor of the Galactic economy, the holder of the most industrialized and populated worlds as well as the owner of galactic corporations, banks and trade were all nationalized by Palpatine in the Clone Wars, which meant that for 24 years that was all centralized. Even with decentralization and Warlordism, that would take years to decades to dismantle fully. Especially when one considers that the Empire even fractured outgunned the Rebellion by a factor of 10,000 to 1. The New Republic would take years to build enough military strength to effectively take large swaths back from Warlords and the Empire all while building an economy and system of government from scratch. The timeline and Operation Cinder simply make zero sense on any scale of the imagination.
The empire downfall was just another example of whar happends to an autocratic or dictatorial regime when the figure on charge is gone. The Empire was always meant to be just a tool for Sidious to control the galaxy, The empire was 100% dependent of Sidious autorithy and once he was gone, there was nothing preventing the empire to falling appart. Palpatine and a small few like Thraw were the only reason why the imperials were able cooperate, but once they were gone, it was just downhill and their demise was just inevitable
After Palpatine's death the might that was the Empire was gone Moffs and Admirals were to busy fighting each other they basically let the New Republic gain more territory and eventually win the war I feel like if they put their differences aside the could have kept the New Republic at bay
1:49 you sounded like Slestack a little from Swtor when he was all like “Every Man For Himself!” after the Sith Warrior was like “Too Late For Backing Out!” After he threatened to kill both TuMarr and Slestack and eat them all Raw
Yes. the empire did shoot itself in the foot, but part of that can be linked to Operation Cinder. Sidious' Operation Spoil Sport destroyed many imperial worlds that could have been a nexus for building a new Empire without Sith rule, which was likely why it was destroyed.
True Operation Cinder basically destroyed the Imperial military before the Battle of Jakku because and led many inside the Imperial Armed Forces to rethink their loyalty to the Empire
@@thorpeaaron1110 Utterly evil and insane he was, though him suffering for thirty years on Exegol hooked up to a machine like Vader is somewhat satisfying and full of karma.
Also one factor you forgot to mention in most mainline troops and I'm sure smaller garrisons just leaving and quitting is being paid I'm sure the imperial paymasters weren't just handing out credits as usual after palpatine got text and I'm sure that those weren't being paid we're just going to keep going for the noble cause of the empire they needed a paycheck and if they're not going to get it from the the imperials I'm sure they could find some way to substantiate their way to either becoming a mercenary or selling off whatever equipment they had at the Garrison that they were stationed at
Most of the soldiers stationed at Imperial garrisons were from poorer Outer Rim Worlds and olny enlisted in the Empire's ranks to make money and really weren't loyal to the Imperial cause so after the death of the emperor many deserted their posts and formed criminal gangs or mercenary companies
Also Palpatine was the glue that held the Empire together once he was dead and sent a shock throughout the Imperial High Command as it was clear would succeed him as emperor this lead to infighting within the Empire itself and Moffs and Admirals became warlords defending their planets and strongholds from other Imperial Warlords and New Republic forces. The civil war within the Empire's leadership basically allowed the New Republic to take planet after planet from the Empire because they're was no unity within it
@@thorpeaaron1110 Only problem was that Palpatine and plenty other Imperials weren't satisfied yet, it may take decades but revenge and victory would there's to achieve or so they believed.
Forget my scepticism but I just can't belive that a Force, so massive died out in a single year. that just doesn't fit into a logical time frame. It'd take about 5 years at the very least. And I also don't beleve that literally any officer defected to the NR or obeyed palpatine. Only if warlords would be much more powerfull than in Legends, then that would be possible. I'm just a bit frustrated with aftermath. I think the time frame would have to be redconed (Think about it, the NR would have had to destroy 1 SSD per month and take worlds like Kuat and Courscant at the same time, wich is just riddiculus).
I do think tho that the mainstream empire died in aftermath. Warlords still exsist in the mandalorian so you could assume that many broke off and did their own thing. The Empire was defeated (in more than 5 years) and warlords dug in and stayed for mabee up to 30 years or struck deals with the NR and/or allies of it (a 2 sided sease-fire prehaps) and be allowed to remain independent. That is were all those 2500+ ISDs went after Endor.
Though sparse, I’m sure & certain that certain Imperials were good Imperials who actually cared. That they didn’t specifically surrender to the New Republic, but they also didn’t try to pick fights with ‘em. They held their line, they protected the people that they were assigned to protect. However, being made aware of what was going on, there is a good chance that the commanding officer gave a choice to the forces under his command, informed the local ruler about how he plans to ‘defect/surrender’ to the local government that is/was under his protection, but under his terms that his men who wish to leave will leave & those who chooses to stay will stay to defend the people. From this, the Star Destroyers’ hangars might be filled with freelance ships. Its possible that captured/destroyed pirate vessels will be recycled; likely thanks to the local governments’ help of supplying the remaining Imperials with resources & volunteers (imagine aliens in Imperial attire, Stormtroopers & TIE Pilots included). And I’d seriously question how the New Republic might choose to go about this, especially if its a vital route to more important targets & such…
That Imperial commanders assigned to those posts at the Imperial shipyards would have surrendered to the New Republic anyway once the Galactic Concordance was signed between the New Republic and Imperial Remnant or instead of surrendering they would become crime Lords making old Imperial class Star Destroyers and Tie Fighters into pirate vessels
Many Imperial commanders who did not surrender to the New Republic were then arrested and charged as war criminals leaving their posts unattended leading to gangs and pirates taking over
In my half baked fanfic, @@thorpeaaron1110, the Imperial commander would’ve agreed to cease hostilities & add New Republic Forces to theirs, but wouldn’t bow down to the New Republic’s demands of disarmament and very clearly express why. Honestly, this Imperial who would’ve allowed aliens in his ranks could’ve actually rivaled Palpatine’s plans that’d lead up to the sequel trilogy. I can imagine that he would’ve been taken out sometime between the Battle of Jakku & the emergence of the First Order because he was the kind of Imperial who’d keep things neat, orderly, & effective (think “Call of Duty”/“Medal of Honor” PC/Video games with “Lord of the Rings” mod; Elven snipers, Anti-Machine gun shield carrying trolls & giants, and more, but the “Star Wars” version of that)…
Well all of the best minds of the Empire died on the First & Second Death Star as well as that super star destroyer at the Battle of Endor. Palpatine, Vader, Tarkin, they're all gone, & these battle stations were super expensive, Palpatine himself said "That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet!! Do you have any idea what this is gonna do to my credit?"
Star Wars galaxy is always and always out of balance. But more importantly, it always goes extreme at everything. Also, should the First Order's Stormtroopers really be called Stormtroopers because the more I think about them, the more they look like the Janissaries. So why don't Disney called them Janissaries? That would be a first good step of changing things.
