  • How Long To Settle Divorce
Mediation can save you both time and money by avoiding the traditional litigation process. In this video, I’ll give you an idea of how long the mediation process typically takes at Graine Mediation.
Generally, most of my cases are settled within two three-hour sessions. Certain cases may require three sessions, such as:
    • Those involving alimony
    • Those with hotly contested issues, such as military/federal government retirement plans with no pre-agreement
    • Those involving disagreements with custody arrangements
If a case takes more than four sessions to settle, the two parties often aren’t actually ready to sit down and reach an agreement together. In this case, I may recommend beginning the litigation process.

For 6 - 12 hours of mediation time sure beats hundreds of hours with separate attorneys.

Yes it does! Thanks for pointing that out.

Only 6 - 12 hours to absolutely destroy a man? And a family? That's terrifying!
Is this the same in all 50 states?

If you're getting into mediation or litigation, then your situation was destroyed way before you got there.

I imagine it took a lot longer than 6-12 hours to destroy the marriage. In mediation, we are just dividing up assets and debts, setting support amounts, and dealing with custody and child support. As far as length of time to mediate, that depends on the mediator. Not the state laws.

@@GraineMediationYes, destroying the marriage usually takes a long time. This mediation is simply finalizing it, thus destroying any hope of repairing it. Which usually costs the man an awful lot. And costs the children even more.
I'm simply curious if this method of settlement is available in all states, as it minimizes the cost and pain of going thru courts and lawyers.
      thx for reply

@@jameskittrell6486 Divorce is never the end result of a marriage that anyone in their right mind would want. A bad marriage, unfortunately, also eats the soul.
Mediation is available in all 50 states. It is not well promoted even by the state organizations that certify people like me. Mediation done well takes money out of lawyers pockets...
