    Since I purchased my very first Audi back in 2016, I have always recommended to people to tune their TCU's as well as their ECU's when they start modifying their cars. Once you tune your car to make a bunch more power, it only makes sense to tell your transmission how to better handle all of that power. I still see people not tuning their TCU's and they are missing out on the peak performance of their vehicles.
    In this video, Kyle from Reiter Performance, has brought his car to Racing Greed to see what kind of power it now makes to the wheels. He's already done a bunch of 1/4 mile runs on this setup and he now wants to know what it took for power to run the times and trap speeds that he did. If you'd like to check out this Integrated Engineering Stage 1 Audi SQ5 1/4 mile drag racing, here are the links to those videos:

    Extending the redline yields better 1/4 mile times because it increases the AVERAGE horsepower. After each shift, the rpm’s drop, but they will be at a higher rpm, which means more power, and a more efficient powerband with higher average HP.

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am very aware of that. What the previous commenter stated is that the whole reason the SUV went as quick and as fast as it did was solely because of the TCU tune and that the ECU tune did barely anything in terms of providing more power to go quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile. I proved that was 100% incorrect because the bulk of the power gained was via the ECU tune. No doubt the TCU helped out too.

    The reason the TCU tune helped you so much, isn't because of the extra peak power, it's because of where the shifts put you in the rpms. You don't make peak power the whole time you are running down the drag strip. Now that you are running 7200rpm, you don't drop way back down to where the engine isn't making the power. That was probably the point being made by the people telling you that. The average power with the rpm shift is a lot more than the 20whp peak gain suggests.

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly that wasn't what he was claiming. I feel like this is the 7th time I've explained this now, lol. He claimed that his ECU tune made no difference on performance and the sole reason his SQ5 went quicker, faster and made more power was because of the TCU.

    Hi guys, after 3 years of being desperate, I understood that 8HP (AL551) can be adapted for higher torque. I had engine swap (CGQB->CVUB) due to burned piston and the new engine is from facelift, but I was promised it was 100% same. Well since then the E clutch adaptation always ends up at -700mbar and that causes slight jerk on 1-2 and 5-6. More pressure to avoid slipping, however damages the E clutch I guess. That engine is puttin out more torque as the TCU is expecting, or at least TCU thinks it is more torque, because the dyno says 570Nm anyway. I have the 8HP55 transmission, but will try to update the AL551 TCU with facelift 8HP70 tranny software to see if it helps or not :-/ No one was able to help me for years with this. Do you think this jerk shifting due to -700mbar fill pressure (-300 to 300 is limit) could be fixed by doing a TCU tune? Thanks!!!

    Love the methodical approach to the test. Do you know why the bypass valve is still closing (intermittently?) at the higher rev range? My understanding is that the closure of the bypass is where most of the gains from the ECU tune are realized. Just wondering why it's not hard-coded to be closed the entire range.

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean why the bypass valve is still opening? They are setting the boost spec value at a certain number which 95% of people don't surpass. We just have incredible air here though and we make a ton of boost that causes the actual boost value to meet or exceed the boost spec. This causes the bypass valve to open and bleed off the extra boost causing those dips in power.

    I just bought a 2015 SQ5 a few weeks ago. 42,000 miles. (No Mods yet) I have noticed some "Sloppy" trans behavior. Its not all the time, normal day to day driving in "comfort" mode is fine mostly. In Dynamic it shifts harder and seems to jerk around - up and down in gear. I understand this might be the trans way of becoming more eager and aggressive. However, here is where it gets strange,...When in "comfort" and I decide to be aggressive with the gas peddle (like chasing down our mail man on the highway) it shifts hard, and after the big chase it's like the transmission stays pissed off - Shifting a little hard and up and down in gear. It's not until I stop the car and it sits a bit will it stop the erratic behavior. SO with this said, do you have any kind of explanation? Also do you think there is a good TCU tune that would help some of this erratic behavior when in Comfort mode? Do you think a simple re-map of the trans at the dealership will fix this? ANY INFO HELPS!!!!!! Love your Vids by the way!

They can handle a lot of torque and shift fast. Also can skip gears. That’s why probably feels weird.

    I was wondering if you would swap the original Turbo with a high Performance garrett Turbo on a sq5 8R, I am thinking of doing that. My SQ5 8r TDI competition has the stage 2 MTM Chip implemented, tested 431 bhp.

    Hi Adammmmmm.... how are you???
    I'm dual pulley now sq5 2015.
    I wanted to ask what it needs to be in the tcu tuning to get more "power" and less times for 100 or 200 kph ?
    It is only the fact that it goes 7200rpm gives it more "power"? Or must to make it more pressure in the shifting???

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It allows the engine to rev to 7200rpm which allows you to make more horsepower. Without the TCU tune your motor can't rev as high and won't make as much power. Thought that was pretty clearly explained in this video.
      The other thing a TCU tune does is allow for a better launch control and possibly better shifts.

    HI Adam, could you explain what it means when you say uncorrected Mustang dyno?

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course. Mustang is the brand of dyno. Uncorrected means whatever the SUV generated for power it simply spits out those numbers. Many, many dyno facilities use corrections for the weather, density altitude, elevation and so on. That tends to artificially inflate the numbers. To give you an example, if we used a Dynojet calibration during these runs it would have shown that it made roughly 15% more power. I simply wanted to show uncorrected, uncalibrated numbers. They may appear low to some, but they are accurate.

    Does the B9 gain any power from TCU tune?

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. Unlike the B8, the B9's powerband drops off higher up in the rpm's because the turbo isn't very big. If I remember correctly the peak horsepower in a B9 with a stock turbo is around 5600rpm so there is no advantage in revving the car out to 6800rpm for maximum acceleration. With that said I still HIGHLY recommend you pair your ECU tune with a TCU tune to get the maximum amount of performance out of your B9.
