#S23Ultra #PortraitMode
The quality of these photos from S23U is insane. I actually preferred some of its shots over the pro camera.
The result of computational photography.
well, that's just because you really don't know what a professional camera can do!
xd
Ha ha ha ha
I hate to say it, but this guy is doing everything he can to hide the imperfections of the S23 camera and make it look good. Lee Zavits uses the perfect lighting setup IN THE STUDIO, and literally 99.9999% of people who take pictures with their phones don't have professional lighting set up. In typical everyday situation like indoors (low light), or even in a sunny day phone cameras simply drop the ball, especially on a sunny day, because phone lenses simply cannot block the sun's rays well enough, so you get EXTREMELY FLAT AND WASHED OUT photos as a result. S23U samples here look better to some people simply because samsung postprocessing is adding excessive ammount of sharpenning to the otherwise soft looking image, while there's no excessive sharpening on Sony A7 samples. This guy should show 1:1 crops in this video and then people could get the idea about the real difference in resolution and details. I recommend people to search for galaxy S23 ultra vs fuji GFX100S comparison here on youtube if they really want to see a fair comparison because the difference in 1:1 crops is huge. The S23U has 200MP but the image is more than 10x less detailed than 100MP mirrorless camera. IMO even cheap and old 12MP DLSR camera from 15 years ago offers far better quality than S23U camera (lifelike colours under typical lighting conditions, far better dynaminc range, way less noise, real DOF instead of extremely fake AI imitation, hot shoe if you want to bring good quality lighting everywhere you go, variety of lenses). The S23U is a good phone. However, no one in their right mind should think that the cameras in this phone can compete with professional cameras.
FYI. I Style all the shoots myself. This was an experiment to see if I could do a Gucci/Vogue look on a budget hunting around different thrift stores. So if you hate how it looks blame me and not the model! Stella is awesome and always brings her best.
Why not compare iPhone 14pro and S23 Ultra in the same way.
Saw ur video for the first time...I loved the idea. Great Video...
both photo are amazing and I cant tell which is which !!!
No worry all the shots are amazing
Stella is a really beautiful model
Stella is stellar
It’s crazy how close the S23 gets. At times the S23 looks more pleasing which blows my mind.
Yeap
Yeah..
S23 shots was so darn good 🥺
Just bought the 23 Ultra and the quality of the photos and videos are excellent. I have never seen this kind of quality in a phone before. Just trying to think what smartphones will be like in a few more years.
In a few years they'll take better quality photos than DSLRs, according to the CEO of Sony's semiconductor unit.
I liked how the color science of Samsung's getting better year after year, especially the skin tone colors.
I would love to see a dedicated video on the Expert RAW app VS. iPhone 48MP RAW since the expert raw can shoot 50MP and 200MP RAW images now!!
Lastly, it is very enjoyable watching your videos, especially the comparisons that you make with phones♥️
The 50MP raw is crazy amount of file size. Little more than 100MB!
@Sourav Basak it would be incredible if they did a 200MP RAW option though!!
@KABIRUL HALDER yeah this is the downside of shooting RAW but anyway we all know that shooting raw comes with the expense of eating a lot of storage!!
@@mazennabil yeah, i actually ordered 256GB variant initially. But after thinking alot, 8k is more usable now, 50MP raw, 200MP pictures, and specially oneui 5.1 taking so much 'system' space, i had to change my mind and went for the 512GB variant.
@KABIRUL HALDER good decision to make especially that 8K is now usable. I'm seeing a lot of people talking about it and from what I saw it's really impressive since you can now crop a photo from the video still get such a high-quality photo!!
Man, it's crazy how good those S23U photos are. Obviously the DSLR takes some better shots, especially when the model is right up against the background. But still, the Samsung seriously holds its own most of the time.
Thanks for putting this together, I always love seeing your phone vs pro camera comparisons!!
He uses a Mirrorless camera, not DSLR.
The camera doesn't suck. We suck. 🤷♂🤣
Amazing work, Lee, as always!
Phone cameras are getting crazy every day. Time will come one day that they will be no need to carry our bucky cameras to take pictures again
Maybe but for social media it’s amazing to be honest. But for client work I don’t think so. Yet
Nope. Never. No phone camera will ever be able to produce bokeh like a dedicated lens. Software will never be able to produce natural looking bokehs, without edges or hairs getting smeared.
Camera phones are great till it runs out of juice! Whoever invented fix batteries on a device is stupid! I like carrying extra batteries! So real cameras will keep going..
This camera is pretty close. The closest so far.
@@lbcitylacounty90810 i think the extra battery you are looking for is called "powerbank"
As a retired pro photographer (my own business for17yrs) I recently sold my Nikon dslr and all the gear and strictly using the new S23Ultra exclusively for personal use. I'd have no aversion to using it on a semi-pro basis if I decide to get back into the biz in the near future. I upgraded from the S21Ultra (which was also a good camera) - but I'm just blown away by the capabilities of the S23 after having it just a few months now. Good job with the comparisons in your video. I'm 58 and started old-school with film back in the day and I still have difficulty wrapping my head around just how good the digital imaging has gotten on these comparatively tiny cameras these days. To think my first digital point-'n-shoot cam back when digital first hit the market was an Olympus D340r with a whopping 1.2mP sensor, lol. We've come a long way so quickly.
Keep in mind that Lightroom will be integrated now in S23 Ultra, so all your raw images will
be opened up by default in LR. Which is nice. Can confirm that Ultra make lips unrealistically pink, even when you turn Scene Recognition off. But its easy to fix in post. I just wish Samsung go for more realistic color whiteout adding to much contrast to the jpegs. But looking forward to see what I can do with 50 and 200mp images in LR when my Ultra will be delivered. Thanks for video!!! Very good example that its not about camera, its about photographer.
Awesome. I want to buy S23 ultra so much but I'm not rich enough atm so I'm saving up.
Why samsung Canceled the lidar system on the s23 ultra it could have helped to have a better focus and work from back and foreground
Love this video 😍 but love to see those 200mp jpg details and raw capabilities
The 50mp raw are impressive. 200mp is meh. It’s still a tiny sensor. It doesn’t feel like real 200mp even though the dimensions are
@@LeeZavitz thanks for the information ❤️❤️😊
200MP is better on capturing landscape or big scale. Sceneries 💥..
I freaking love your videos, very simple, just the phone's samples and the camera's samples and some nice music, nothing more. Love it‼️
It’s not a simple video to make but I make it look easy :p
Phenomenal leap in phone photography. If only we are able to select natural/warm/cool colour tone right from the menu and the portrait mode actually focuses on the part where we want it to focus and leave the rest blurred out like a DSLR does, we won't be needing the chunky siblings anymore.
Having conducted some fashion photoshoots myself, I was quite impressed by your angles and the model did a brilliant job, loved her poses. The photographer in me was taking ques from you throughout the video 😄
S23 matches up quite well with Sony A7 ... Great to see cell phones matching up with professional Cameras 📷.... mobile photography has now reached unimaginable lengths, things we never thought could happen...
Insane, for travel photography I'd take the S23 ultra over a camera without even giving it a second thought
But I'd rather take my Pro cameras becuase I love extra batteries than that stupid fixed one! The downfall of Camera phones "fixed batteries"!
@@lbcitylacounty90810 yes, while that is true sadly people don't value dslr due to their bulky size not being enjoyable while traveling, if you want to just take some photos and have fun on a trip a bulky camera (also heavy) is quite tiring to carry around, a smartphone can take a selfie of groups in a trip where as you have to setup a dslr for that first.... Believe me 95% people will always prefer smartphone camera in a age where only difference between them is colour saturation......
Indeed, each year smartphones try more and more to market as pro camera (and more) devices. They even called Ridley Scott to mave a movie with the S23 ultra. But at the same time they keep packing toy like batteries. The best smartphone or smartwatch is still useless if the battery is over.
But at least we can carry power banks for trips and long days.
@@fred6033 when the batties cells are done...it's a nightmare opening them up to replace...it's like a major operation, the chances of breaking something is high. Now, if they start selling smartphones with easy accessible battery compartment and able to puchase extra batteries like dslrs and mirrorless camera...now, we can say, we re in business!
@@lbcitylacounty90810 yeah but smartphones are still made to last 1 to 3, sometimes 4 years. If they make easy to replace battery most ppl wont need a new phone, just a new battery.
I traded in my s22 ultra for the 23 ultra, got it in the mail today. The camera looks like a pretty big jump for processing and the 50mp photos are chefs kiss 👩🍳 the s22 ultra is an amazing phone but the 23 just has it going on! Love the vids, hope to be half as good as you someday 😎👍
Although I preferred the Sony's output across the board and expected it to pull even further ahead on inspection under zoom, as it did in the shot where you showed that, that is still an exceptional showing by the S23U.
Just got mine yesterday and going to test the camera out today. Pretty impressed with it so far (although it is a fairly heavy phone compared to others I've had)
Truly blew me away, the S23 ultra is punching way above its weight! Astonishing what it can deliver.
3x telephotos with raw files are starting to get really good on these phones.
This makes me wanna upgrade from my iPhone 13 Pro.. S23 Ultra does look tempting this year. And Appreciate you hardworking video was fantastic and I was actually waiting for your this style of testing video. glad it came today.
you can do the same with iphone. it's more about the light, model, makeup, clothes, etc
@@iustitiaepervenit I know i am an iPhone user for more than 5 years now .. But to be frank iOS is getting boring. That's the only reason.
@@djkam19 Now that S23Ultra matched iphone in term of battery that would be definitely easier
@@BrushFPV absolutely thats what i meant
Just do it!
We would love to see the next smartphone camera battle,, like pixel 7 pro vs s23 ultra vs iphone 14 pro max
Waiting for raw shooting with the s23 ultra, it will be interesting to see the improvements of 50 mp res
I'd love a similar comparison in low light. The S23Ultra is a beast, but like all other phones it might struggle in low light. Especially the 3x zoom portrait mode. The iPhone 14 Pro almost always fails with 3x portrait mode in low light.
3x lens on iphone is f2.8 while
3x lens on samsung is f2.4 so both 3x lens definitely not ideal for lowlights
I love your videos! I hope you can do some more about the s23 ultra 🙌
This is so crazy. I mean, yes, you can still see a little bit more sharpness with the "pro" camera. But when you consider how much bigger the sensor is, how much bigger the lens and how much glass is build in this lens. And that you are comparing a only-photography/videography-tool with a smartphone with many usecases. it is absolutly crazy.
OMG I have the phone and still amazed with the shots you take, I think I will start to use Portrait Mode more.
im getting my s23 ultra today and i also have the a7iv omg i cant wait to dual shoot with these BEASTS!
And what is your verdict?)
Why my s23 ultra 3x portait mode photo is become yellow
you should use 10x lens by going a bit back it gives the background blur without any software tricks and that looks very great.
i have s21 and i use it that way for portraits its a bit tedius to go back each time but trust me its worth it it dosent give that dull feeling of missing some strands of hair due to software limitations.
It’s the same with the pixel 7 pro too. 5x looks awesome instead of using portrait mode
Props to the model she’s amazing and gorgeous.
These are some amazing shots dude, the angles, colors all perfect
Been patienly waiting for this, thank god you made one ✨
The photos you got on this phone are phenomenal
The photos just in general are phenomenal lol. Great set design and wardrobe planning!
Thanks bro. I spent 2 days going to thrift stores to find the outfits. Appreciate it
Those photos are very pleasant to look because of what a pretty model
This is the best video I've seen on the s23 ultra and pushed me to get it. I'd love to see more of these types of shoots with it in different settings.
Great video and you are doing a very good job with the photography brother thanks to the model for posing ✅
Around 2:00 you mention the colour is a bit different on the. S23 Ultra - I think by default the screen displays VIVID image tones, which can be changed in the display options.
Why would it matter if the display is set to vivid if the actual JPG color is different.
I mean seriously, you are not the brightest are you?
@IIISentorIII he literally said in 2:11 that when he edited them side by side it looked the same.
Also, many photographers and photo editers comment: that if you're taking raw, colour accurate photos on Samsung, you should switch the display from vivid to normal because that's more accurate to the actual photo (as samsung tends to oversaturate its display to make colours pop)
So, instead, why don't you actually watch the video and do some research before commenting instead of trying to sound smart?
Really insane results. This is where r professional photographers shows his true skill
they both look phenomenal specially since its a phone vs a pro camera. the s23u definitely has more sharpening. Sony's colours are fantastic and that bokeh is amazing.
She is so pretty 😍
There's a reason I picked the 23 ultra. It's great as a photographer for any time you want to take a "spare of the moment" photo op when you don't have your DSLR. It takes some epic photos, especially for a phone.
I finally found the content I was looking for for days.
At first, with the first set of images, I cannot identify which photos are taken from the s23.
Both photos are great regardless. Wow.
Good job samsung.
Hey Lee, amazing video showing also the potential of the s23u in portrait mode. Please show us more of its capabilities in your hands and in different scenarios. 🙏
Thanks for always delivering 🙂 personally I'd like to see other camera features on this great phone. Kindly asking for the phone after you are done taking pictures 🤲🏿.
Still amazed how good you are with the light… think you still able to make iPhone 4 shots look good
When lighting is favourable, a phone cam can be very close to a pro cam. When the light is dim and the object is moving, the results could be hugely different without using a flash.
the best part is in some cases, phone's new AI is capable enough to separate each individual hair in portraits, thatz crazy ⚡⚡ imagine few years from now when smartphone processor becomes powerful enough so that we can use this much processing from portraits shots in portrait videos too👁️👄👁️
It’s going to get wild. AI is taking over
This is a legit camera review. *from a real photographer ✨
I have been waiting for this 🥰🥰
Beautiful model ❤️❤️❤️
these shots from Samsung are very sharp and very detailed , doesnt looked oversharpened at all which is weird for a samsung. I'm not sure if you are shooting in RAW and being post processed or are these shots straight out of the camera JPEGs?
amazing content as always. glad i got this phone yesterday!
I feel that the pro cameras have a quality of reproducing the original texture without compromising the sharpness. Whereas, the phones kind to make the textures more "sharp" and not in a good way, but with that said, the S23U is amazing. Can't wait to see what computational photography does 5 years down the line. Kudos to Samsung!
Make a camera comparison between the S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro
It would be even more interesting if you compared portraits in normal indoor light (no studio lighting) and subject that doesn't stand completely still (a child?). This would be more close to a normal photo situation and also where a dedicated camera would shine. Thank you for the video though 👍👍😎
S23U is a must get phone this year, the quality is amazzzzing!! Thanks for the vid!
To get the s23u to stop changing the colors, you have to turn off scene optimization in the photo settings.
It's a very cool video, thank you. But you missed doing the ultimate and most important test which is to shoot at the exact same distance and framing one shot with the Sony and one shot with the S23 Ultra at 200MP.. then compare the actual detail between both. This is what I really would like to see because this is actually the real highlight of the new phone and not doing that test leaves out what this phone is really different about from the previous version.
This is great. I currently have the s21u, but my s23u comes tomorrow 😎
Tbh! I prefer the s23 ultra colours most of the time.. but u can edit both.. white balance is bad a bit because it's early software. i suggest u retest it in 3 months..
Crazy camera that s23 ultra, as expected this is probably the best portrait mode on the market, i hope that's not the last time i see this phone on your hands, waiting for more (night, expert raw, natural light)
Bro the S23 Ultra cameras are incredible. I can't believe what I'm seeing. imagine showing these people from like 7-8 years ago?
The S23 Ultra is awesome, you really can do a proffessional job with that cameras.
True. But its been done before already. When some magazine was shooting cover for magazine on iPhone I don’t remember XS or 11
Amazing content there. I also like how Samsung 23Ultra is so powerful
You are a super great portrait photographer!!!👌
Thanks for this shoot out about s23ultra vs a dslr camera comparison... For me i have noticeed that in some shots s23ultra was bit better.... I'm amased with those photos from the s23ultra ❤👌
Great content once again 👌✨
good light and pro photographer and a pretty model ! ofcourse the pics will turn out epic 😂
do you think an amateur with dslr can take a good photo too?
That's an incredible video you make.i could like to compare that outside in sunlight. New subscribe
I have never saw such a great camera comparison this is how we should compare it and S23 ultra and Sony A7 we really are unable to see any difference between these two of them only slightly S23 ultra in some photos done some improper edge detection that is too minor we cant also figure out but overall S23 ultra is really close means too close to camera already its beaten the iphone's potraits too I am impressed from that time only . Good job Samsung is moving to professional level photography day by day and reaching new highs.
nice i always waiting your comparison between camera content
another great video 👌👏🏼
Could you bring a video with your professionalism a comparison between 23 Ultra and 22 Ultra
These images of S23U are over the top. Bravo Samsung🌹💜
It would be cool to see you do one of these with OnePlus 11 hassablad. Using pro mode. To see if the partnership actually makes a difference
Great video. I would still love to see comparision your Sony camera with S23 settings - 200Mpx 300% zoom / 50Mpx RAW 300% zoom / 12Mpx (or more or even RAW???) 3x optical zoom.
Watching from Africa, Zambia ❤️
Looks great, maybe next year Samsung can replicate foreground blur as well. Then it will be almost impossible to tell on a screen.
the day has come 5000/10000$ camera on your pocket now for only 1200$ and giving thousands more features as a tech device
what a beast btw i am an ios user but love the samsung galaxy S23
nice shots. most smartphones can change focus, depth and blur after the shot. Pixel 7 pro does as well. S23 scored 140 on dxomark! it cast a funny hue often and tends to miss on skin tones, which has been seen in different camera reviews.
The competition is real ......cant wait for the mi 13 ultra release ....greaT video i like this type of video
I switched from iphone 13 pro to 23 ultra, and man it’s crazy how I like it
Pre-ordered mine and switching from 12Pro)) Tried 14Pro and was disappointed.
Not even close to sony a7iv.I have samsung s23 ultra and I was hoping to do indoor tattoo pictures with professional lights and filters. All I got is noisy picture due 50 megapixel or 200 megapixel camera. When I use it i normal mode not even better then samsung s10.I would say .If you want professional photo then buy a camera instead.
Coming from Note20Ultra. I've been lured to have 3x lens on S21U and S22U but it still not convincing and now the S23U is something it lit 🔥🔥🔥
I wanna see you talk about the 50 mp raw photos
Nice reviews 👌 thanks
Im sad you didnt dive in to the ExpertRaw app to capture raw in 12 and 50mp to compare against other devices and the a7iv. Do you plan to do this in another video?
Keeping it simple by just comparing portrait mode. This way you get a lot more samples. But I can make a video covering 50mp raw in a different video
@@LeeZavitz awesome would love to see how the raw compares to other devices
Please make a portrait video on s23 ultra like you made for iphone 14 pro cinematic video
The video I wait the most all over TH-cam ! To see if I have your go for this purchase or taking the iPhone14Pro
I’m an iPhone fan boy even if the camera isn’t as good. I care more about how the phone runs and the eco system.
Holy that's outrageously close
Hello sir Lavitz .
I hope i can see a video of you taking shot using vivo x90 pro plus
More power to your content and video's sir
🤘🤘📸📸
I was sent the x90 pro not the plus. I haven’t decided what to make the video about yet, I thought about just using all the cameras on it and no compare it to anything. But I need more time using it first
S23 Ultra did quite impressive!
Easily the best Portrait on a smartphone…
why do they always say, like the iPhone. portrait phone was first in the Samsung and all those options are from the galaxy S9
It's crazy that a smartphone can get good photos like that 👍
Man do your take on the expert raw app. Maybe how well it fares with pro grade cameras
Good video. Sorry, with your s23 Ultra you use vivid or natural mode? What you recommend?
very good take altho if it were me, I'd compare ip14pm and s23u against yesteryear's pro cam/dslr just so we can level the playing field. Also was thinking how they do when shooting larger subjects like cars etc. I noticed professional lenses still create layers while phones create a 2d layer of subj vs background
That was crazy 😱😱😱 wish you do compared Samsung to iPhone 14 pro mas as well three of them
