With the addition of features such as the LiDAR sensor on iPhones, the cameras are able to somewhat replicate professional cameras in terms of depth of field. The question is, is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro good enough to compete with a professional camera, the Canon EOS R5? For average users .. yes, but for Pro Photographers .. I dunno because smartphone cameras does have extreme limitations in terms of hardware .. software just does the work but it's still not enough to put a TRUE Camera to shame.
If it's the next Galaxy, then definitely yes!
Why you don't use the 14 pro max??
@@legendaryblood1937 They are progressing much faster than "pro hardware", software can be magic with enough computing power and seems like iPhone 15 series will be quite a nice example of that because a17 bionic should be more powerful than M1...
Really expensive cameras will still have their place but I'm pretty confident that phones will just about replace cameras in their price class because you will get comparable results with wayy less hassling and a whole computer on top of that.
I'm a photographer who does a lot of portraits and I am glad I made the right choice getting the S23 Ultra.

@Udayveer_Singh hey man, a good lens for Sony would be the FE 1.8/50. Its pretty cheap but takes super crisp photos, and I've been using it for years. I highly recommend it. Only issue is if you're using it on an APS-C sensor, it goes to around 75mm.

You did an amazing job on this comparison. The Canon was clearly the best due to the depth of field, but considering it's 4x the price and chunky asf, whereas the phones you carry in your pocket and take *comparable* pictures, pretty amazing to say the least. I was surprised with how good the colours on the samsung were, if im not mistaken that used to be the other way around with samsung having "flatter" colour and the iPhone being ahead in that department but it seems like the roles have been reversed.
Exactly i remember iphone taking more vivid pictures i think Samsung will update it's camera software in the future and make the pictures less vivid

I wish Samsung would turn the noise reduction down juuuust a little bit, but it definitely was better than Apple here. Apple nails the subtle blur variations tho.

With the newest info about the Pixel 8 Pros pointing towards it having a LiDAR sensor, I can't wait for its take on portrait photo and portrait video. Cinematic blur was a catastrophe unfortunately.

Very saturated colours. Only looks good in low light.
In other words you like a fake looking image. These camera phones aren’t even close to a DSLR. There’s a reason why professionals use big DSLR/mirrorless cameras and not their phones.

Which camera or phone u use for face cam in Vedio?
Another great video, thanks. I think for me, the most amazing thing I've seen is (on Mrwhosetheboss channel) the possibility of being able to attach real camera lenses on to the phones.
That will really blur (pun) the line between real cameras and the phone cameras.
I saw all the accessories Samsung presented for the s23 lineup, so i won't be surprised if one day they'll produce cover with magnetic lenses
Colors can be adjusted. With Photoshop, masks can be applied to objects in the foreground and background then slapped with a lens blur.
Software enhancements will eventually do this automatically, but it will never match the physical optics of a DSLR
At that point I'mma buy a small lense for Background blur for 200-300 dollars smh

There was just one instance where the hair is not the same for all giving advantage to one phone in terms of background separation (one shot with messier hair😅)
But overall, yes this is a great protrait mode comparison. 👍🏼

Photo quality is pretty similar but difference in depth of field is really massive. Every cannon pic looks like there is like 1 mile distance between background and subject lol

I had iphone 13 pro max and then bought s23 ultra and thereafter I didn't take any pictures from iphone. S23 ultra is in different league...
So ultimately i sold my iphone 13 pro max.

Why would you test with the weakest lens on the iPhone?
Use the main camera, with a much larger sensor, & shoot in ProRaw, rather than use the telephoto (3x) lens

i reckon the hair detection part under ur elbow was a low blow for the iPhone as the canon also blurred out that aswel, i reckon it did great detection while the Samsung shouldn't of kept it in.

Samsung S23 is getting a big software camera update soon.
Why do we always have to wait and rely on Samsung for updates? It can no longer be from production on the first try? Even the iPhone takes pictures well after the purchase and only after the update? Samsung then plays with us like little children.

Very honest review. The smartphone cameras are really catching up with pro cameras. If only they can solve the tiny lenses to match pro lenses. That would be game changing.

I like how samsung distinguishes, a person's each individual hair in their arm.
AMAZING videos
4:10 - that noticeable mistake is also apparent on the iPhone. You can see on the right side the Tree wasn't blurred out because her hair got in the way. It's very tricky with having long hair, if any of it sticks out then that can mess up the phone camera's background blur (this goes for both phones)
While long hair is tricky, the difference between those two in that photo can't be compared. You can barely see any problem on the iPhone, whereas on the Galaxy, a huge part around the hair is unblurred.
@Versus yes but look at how many strands of the hair is blown and separated from the rest.
This isn't shown on iPhone or the camera because the hair was sitting straight, not being blown and separated by the wind like in the Samsung

I am in digi photo world from 2005 when first DSLR appeared. But in last years when i am not at customers (real estate or interioer shoots), i verey often use mobile phones for every day things. Its always ready and in few seconds you can get very nice shoots. And until you shoot really with special lens or special things (wedding, sports) you can really can not say which photo is which. If so, would you really bet sometihg like 10 000USD that you can say which photo is from which device? :) i think nobody would go for that.

I think use a camera vs S23 Ultra Expert raw and give it to someone so that can play with settings like in real camera (also with video as samsung allows you to play with real settings like iso, wb etc.), real life on both of them

Nice video. except the canons aperture has a huge effect where as the iphone an galaxy's are fixed. do the same test and set the canons F-stop to the same as the phones!!!!

Try and compare Portraits with P60 Pro f/2.1 Aperture Zoom Lens the widest open lens in the industry.
It is obviously good from the the consumer point of view that smartphones approach the quality of professional cameras in everyday situations. And it is good that having a professional camera is still better than pretending to have a professional camera, otherwise people might come to the conclusion that you can fake everything...
