I also really like that he cleans the parts he's working on instead of alot of these other guys throwing up slick new parts on piles of grease and dirt
I had one i built, with a 400 sb 2wd, gran national rear . I loved it. One day i came home and it was gone. Turns out the wife needed a truck to pick up stuff. After that i could not leave the keys home. As she loved driving it!
Hey LT, you should do some play around tuning with the 4.3 before you get serious on a swap. A before and after dyno just for fun. Would be interesting to see what can be found power wise over a factory tune.
The only thing I'd bother with doing to the 4.3 would be a panel filter upgrade, some holes added to the fender-facing side of the lower air box, an electric fan for the radiator (which is needed for the engine swap later), and MAYBE an underdrive pulley on the crank (+smaller pulley on Alt) if he can find a cheap one. Those were the best bang-for-buck mods I did to my Blazer... 20 years ago.
LT your level of detail and finished product is like no one else's but it may be time to step up the game. Have a 3D scan made of your truck then design your own body kit to your quality and the OEM look you have an eye for seeing.
Love the project -- takes me back. Great work on the suspension. It's always satisfying to replace those worn parts and have a fresh handling rig. The only thing I'd suggest to add regarding steering is a PS cooler. I found that a great place to hide one with great airflow is on the plastic tray forward of the rad/condenser and behind the front bumper that receives airflow from the front license plate indent. I used a Derale 13200 stood on its side to catch the airflow. Hoses fed through 2 drilled holes in the side of the tray, vertically oriented. Looped end was zip-tied through the tray. Worked like a charm.
There's a lightweight front coil over S10 setup that eliminates the toraion bar nonsense. I don't know the name of the company who offers this, but did see the install on the Fasterproms all wheel drive S10. On their build they tried a manual transmission that was nothing but trouble. And made things worse with the twin turbo ~1000 horsepower break stuff engine.
Redhead steering" builds a damn good gearbox but nothing beats a "Lee power steering" gearbox. At least most NASCAR teams don't think so. Owner Tom Lee built me a gearbox, with hydraulic assist, years ago. Tom is now retired but a long time customer took over and runs the business today.
LT. When performing an alignment on something with eccentrics hit the “save before measurements” key and then go to “make additional adjustments” and then “adjust caster and camber with CAMM”. It’ll make it so much faster to dial in your caster and camber. Also use the WinToe feature also under the additional adjustments tab.
I would personally like to see a twin-turbo 4.3L. I've seen lots of LS swaps and I get why. It's a solid way to get power and parts are a dime a dozen. However, it would be cool to see something original and it would potentially have way a way better weight ratio with the V6 for track use.
A 4.3 weighs around 425 lbs while an ls3 weighs around 400 lbs. ofcourse the LS has the advantage of aluminum block and heads but it’s still lighter then the v6 while pushing much more power and torque. The price is obviously a huge disadvantage for the LS especially for any of the big bore aluminum blocks
You could also change out the steering shaft rag joint with a U-joint. I have replaced my steering components a few times. I hate the design of it and wondered if a RedHead box would make a difference. It doesn't help that my other car is an STI with coilovers and ALL suspension upgrades.
You didn't need to shave those bump stops. Pretty much all upgraded bump stops are ment be squished at all times, it actually helps the ride quality. Check out sumo springs they are awesome! Those red heads are kick ass, have one in my 8.1l yukon xl. One can have the box upgraded to send box pressure into the steering stabilizer shock to help smooth things out. Jeeps do that alot. I still think that 535 wants to go in that s10. Good luck at any rate.
Big +1 for redhead steering gears. I put one in a 73 mustang last year. I have another car to do soon, and redhead is the first and only place I'm looking.
Love to see your ls swap on that truck. I’m doing one one my 4 door. Go with the corvette front accessory drive! Pulls everything in 2 inches to the block!
I’m in the process of putting a C5 corvette rear suspension in a 92 s-10. It’s been pretty straight forward so far with my kit from Dobbertin performance.
nice work LT. i used to have a 92 4 door blazer 4x4 i did all the same work to about 12 years ago. rolled it around on a 3/3 drop and it worked well. iroc steering box and jeep steering shaft. a piece of advice for a nice upgrade is a steering shock. mine didnt have one factory but i got a kit from rancho. even with 6' caster it would follow ruts on the road with 245-50r16. the shock for sure helped.
If you wanna go full blown racecar on the awd truck, there is a full fiberglass front clip for the gmt800s online. I think that would be cool. Get the protec fiberglass bed. Fiberglass front clip. Stock cab gutted out. Shed some weight and fly.
I like the direction of your build, smart combining parts for ifs ..I couldn't find any lockers for I.F.S.not even for cast iron units ,my mevotech fit fine..
Hey LT, love watching your program, your amazing to watch and learn from. What brand of cv axles are your replacements from, needing to replace both front sides on my 04 gmc envoy? Much love from Oregon and happy holidays to you and yours.
I was shocked to see you go with stock stamped components. And not a bell tech or similar companies tubular design . Much stiffer and more adjustment usually , and upgradability with shocks , coil overs etc etc .
Id never be able to set an alignment up like you did in PA. We have so much road crown that we need to put an extra quarter or half degree caster in the right side. If you dont, the vehicle will want to pull off the road to the right
Sad to see stock arms going back on. There are 2 companies that's make a tubular control arms for gmc cyclones. However during my research for 4x4 tubular arms they only have ball joint geometry for stock height to lowered. Not lifted. M C performance is designing a tubular control arm upper and lower that eliminate torsion bars and go to a coilover
I'm really enjoying this build. I have to say, you seem a bit underwhelmed with the steering box upgrade. You didn't really say much about it. When it was done after you'd been driving it. Could you tell much of a difference? Do you think it was worth it?
I know your playing around with the front. Don't forget bravada bumper was wider than the blazer, had a different flair and fog lights. and had a similar wheel flair to the extreme, but with extra cladding on the door.
As bad as our roads are where I am, you can't leave caster even. You have to taper it for the crown in the road or people get all mad because it "pulls right". So glad I don't do that anymore
Pro tip: Take a porta-power and spread your control arm mounts as much as you feel safe doing. Then, use washers as spacers/wear tabs. Doing so gives you some caster adjustment... P.S. These trucks are way under what they need to be for caster angle to handle well....
The C4 wheels are nice, but if you're going with C5 brakes... How about some C5 Z06 wheels to match? They would be period correct, and a bit bigger to help fill out the wheelwells a bit.
The blazer arms were not the issue, everything blazer is a bolt it. It’s the brand, Dorman’s go right in if you have a customer vehicle next time. I have a ridetech 3link in the rear of mine and I must say it’s a nice kit. Coilovers on the front you’ll be modifying those new upper arms or going tubular for clearance
Can't wait to see the LS3 going in. So awesome. For a standard, AWD LS S10, that would be the dream. Are the only options NV4500, since something like ZFS650 would be way too big?
Hey man love the truck love the build I had a cammed 4.3 v6 sierra and that thing hauled butt after a few years of that the rings wore out and e85 seeped in to the crank case and it exploded the block on the inside due to the heat ( the engine also had 280,000 miles )
My old s10 xtreme with coilovers in the front would definitely scare a corvette. I was always afraid that if I heard a tire squeal, it was too late. Fun truck. I want anothwr
Where did u buy all the replacement parts from? I plan on doing the same thing. Always wanted a typhoon so I bought the next closest thing. I got a 98 bravada. Everything under it is worn and rusted. Also wondering how much u lowered it? I was planning on going 2.5 to 3 inches.
I was thinking about how the location of the mounting point for the swaybars to the A-arms, the smaller factory one is further out and I'd imagine being further out on the pendulum (A-arm) will five it an advantage. Too bad the larger one can't be modified. Have you checked the Astro van front end?
How about an aluminum L-33 5.3? 80# lighter and 25hp more than an LM-7. It has ls7 heads but with cheaper valves and springs. Cam with springs and trunnion upgrade puts it over 400hp then turbo or supercharger later.
Since we already know a SBC and LS fit. I am guessing an LV3 ougt to fit just fine, with a modified oil pan anyway. What are the Corvette wheel size and offset?
If you haven't named the S10 yet, "Psycloned" would be good!
YES!!!
Too close to Tony DeAngelo’s name he made for his. The Sike Clone.
Orrrrr you just act like a grown man and don't name it anything........
@@tylergeorge1065 orrrrrr he can act like a grown regular car guy and name it
Perfect!
Glad to see a TH-camr finally giving RedHead props. They make the best stuff.
Hey LT, you should do some play around tuning with the 4.3 before you get serious on a swap. A before and after dyno just for fun. Would be interesting to see what can be found power wise over a factory tune.
that'll double the cost of the build.
Complete waste of time and money.
The roadkill guys were breaking crank shafts in the 4.3 in rotsun, I'd pass on that, an aluminum 6.2 would be sick.
@nissanv6TT , so using hp tuners he already has would double the cost of the build? Mmkkay...
LT your level of detail and finished product is like no one else's but it may be time to step up the game. Have a 3D scan made of your truck then design your own body kit to your quality and the OEM look you have an eye for seeing.
Always dig your projects. I’ve always enjoyed upgrading my vehicles with other factory options
Love the project -- takes me back. Great work on the suspension. It's always satisfying to replace those worn parts and have a fresh handling rig. Nice to watch a vid where the creator speaks so articulately. Really enjoying the build.
Man my brother put polygraphite bushings in his 91 s10. Front and back.... never stopped squeeking
I wonder if the thickness difference is because of the leverage difference on the sway bar being different.
Never thought I'd be excited about an S10 build 😂
This build is going smooth. Can’t wait to see the engine going in.
I highly recommend doing 4 piston Brembos off a CTSV or Gen5 camaro. They are great on my Syclone
Dude!!! I like what you do for the 2nd gen!! S-10!!! Just make it loud!!! When it's done!!!✌️
I have a 2002 chevy s10 extended cab. I did the blazer front complete spindle up grade. The brake upgrade is amazing
3rd gen 1le quick ratio steering box makes an s-10 fun... bolts right in....
That S-10 looks good LT
I would personally like to see a twin-turbo 4.3L. I've seen lots of LS swaps and I get why. It's a solid way to get power and parts are a dime a dozen. However, it would be cool to see something original and it would potentially have way a way better weight ratio with the V6 for track use.

You can't get any dozen parts for an LS for just a dime don't know where your prices are coming from
You could also change out the steering shaft rag joint with a U-joint.
I have replaced my steering components a few times. I hate the design of it and wondered if a RedHead box would make a difference. It doesn't help that my other car is an STI with coilovers and ALL suspension upgrades.
You do the same thing I do with all the Rock Auto magnets, my tool box and fridge in my garage are full of them 👍🏻
You didn't need to shave those bump stops. I just installed the blue top in my wife’s 08 Duramax almost 400,000 miles
I believe a Monte SS gear box would have worked too, quicker ratio. Love your builds, you have awesome ideas!
Grab the back tire on the left side and rotate it to make the Rolling Compensation easier when setting up for the alignment.
Your S-10 is going to be 🔥!!
nice work LT. i used to have a 92 4 door blazer 4x4 i did all the same work to about 12 years ago. rolled it around on a 3/3 drop and it worked well. iroc steering box and jeep steering shaft. a piece of advice for a nice upgrade is a steering shock. mine didnt have one factory but i got a kit from rancho. even with 6' caster it would follow ruts on the road with 245-50r16. the shock for sure helped.
Man I like that alignment rack those sensors grab onto the tire and the one we had grabbed onto the wheels and they were awful and hard to get on
If you wanna go full blown racecar on the awd truck, there is a full fiberglass front clip for the gmt800s online.
47 👍's up LT thank you for sharing 😊
Man i love your vids i see them pop up and have to insta click your a big inspo for me in the auto world
I appreciate it!
I always run 0.5 more caster on the passenger side. That helps fight the crown in the road.
Great video. Can't wait till the next one.
I was shocked to see you go with stock stamped components. And not a bell tech or similar companies tubular design . Much stiffer and more adjustment usually , and upgradability with shocks , coil overs etc etc .
Love the concept 😊
Excellent LT! 1st Rate! 👍
My 96 cobra would love to have that 5.4 since it’s not driving currently
Best video in a while
This is cool man i see that cleetus shirt i think it would be cool if you became part of the team
I haven't looked at what's available, but if polyurethane bushings are available for the S10, this would have been a good time to put them in.
Holly black heart steering shafts eliminates rag joint and more clearance for ls swap
Fwiw, I think the 16" wheels from the S10 SS would look super sharp on that and still let you run beefy wide tires on them!
Id never be able to set an alignment up like you did in PA. We have so much road crown that we need to put an extra quarter or half degree caster in the right side. If you dont, the vehicle will want to pull off the road to the right
If you look at the zr2 wheel flares there is a bumper piece that might match the extreme flares
Nice work ❤️ 👍🏼
Sad to see stock arms going back on. There are 2 companies that's make a tubular control arms for gmc cyclones. However during my research for 4x4 tubular arms they only have ball joint geometry for stock height to lowered. Not lifted. Love these videos man! Keep it up
Need to get rid of rag joint on the steering shaft next !
I'm really enjoying this build. I have to say, you seem a bit underwhelmed with the steering box upgrade. You didn't really say much about it. When it was done after you'd been driving it. Could you tell much of a difference? Do you think it was worth it?
man youre building this almost exactly how i would want to as well, nice work. really hoping for a turbo
Dont forget caster is not a live measurement, always do a caster sweep after an adjustment
I want and need that Boss 260 intake but I know I just dont have enough right now. Would be perfect for my 59 ford station wagon build
Found your channel because I’m doing an 8.1 swap in my Silverado. Love what you’re doing, can’t wait to see this thing rippin and grippin
I LOVE Rock Auto so much! LOL
It looks like you could go with a little more tire diameter (a lil more sidewall) if you wanted & still have zero rub.
You should get the S10 Extreme body panels for this.
You now need a 1994 cherokee xj steering shaft ...they got u joints instead of that rag joint better steering wheel feel
Xenon made the besy looking body kit for these trucks, I had one on the S-10 I had. They don't break easy like the X-treme front valence....
Pro tip: Take a porta-power and spread your control arm mounts as much as you feel safe doing. Then, use washers as spacers/wear tabs. Doing so gives you some caster adjustment...
P.S. These trucks are way under what they need to be for caster angle to handle well....
Who else is screaming .. no!! A little paint goes a long way
Hi
Is the alignment values you used for a stock s10 ?
Planning on changing wheel alignment before trackdays?
Keep up the good work 👌
The C4 wheels are nice, but if you're going with C5 brakes... How about some C5 Z06 wheels to match? They would be period correct, and a bit bigger to help fill out the wheelwells a bit.
P.S.T. Solid Steel Adjustable Tie Rod Sleeves. If you what to make easy adjustments.
And here I was, hoping for an LV3 with a DoD delete, Stage 3 cam, and a turbo.
Just another LS swap.
New name: “big investment”
You should go with Powerstop breaks.
If you can you should get 4wd lowering spindles
95 and up Blazer is technically a T-10 where as the pickup is an S-10.
I thought about AWD ing my 4x4 Colorado and doing a supercharged 6.2 with 6L80.
Hey man love the truck love the build I had a cammed 4.3 v6 sierra and that thing hauled butt after a few years of that the rings wore out and e85 seeped in to the crank case and it exploded the block on the inside due to the heat ( the engine also had 280,000 miles )
Nice job. Where's your shop located
My old s10 xtreme with coilovers in the front would definitely scare a corvette. I was always afraid that if I heard a tire squeal, it was too late. Fun truck. I want anothwr
Also Holley heater box cover for ls swap
Does the difference in stiffness of the swaybar make up for the lack of leverage the swaybar has at the wheels?
Have you looked into front coilovers for the S10?
I have done countless alignments...and even on my 86 s10...but I've NEVER seen someone roll it from the front bumper lol
Hell yeah!
If you want better handling I'd run more negative camber... maybe -1.0 as to not completely kill tires?
I was thinking about how the location of the mounting point for the swaybars to the A-arms, the smaller factory one is further out and I'd imagine being further out on the pendulum (A-arm) will five it an advantage. Too bad the larger one can't be modified. Have you checked the Astro van front end?
junkyard turbo on the 4.3 might be a fun experiment before going LS?
How about an aluminum L-33 5.3? 80# lighter and 25hp more than an LM-7. It has ls7 heads but with cheaper valves and springs. Cam with springs and trunnion upgrade puts it over 400hp then turbo or supercharger later.
He had aftermarket swaybars front and back.... holy he'll it rode like crap... but it drove like a darn gocart...
Hey LT, you gonna paint all that bracketry when you get the corvette brakes??🤔
6.2 with supercharger ✈ ✈
Red head, where did you get that Idea?? I used to be a red head!🤣🤣
Bummed out the 5.4dohc build isn’t going to happen 😢
Since we already know a SBC and LS fit. I am guessing an LV3 ougt to fit just fine, with a modified oil pan anyway. What are the Corvette wheel size and offset?
ihave a cad file for a bracket to bolt C5 calipers onto the late s10 spindle
I have a set of 2016 camaro ss brakes that would be pretty awesome. I'd sell cheap
