      Tony Angelo, did same thing, already. Sike Clone. Seems like people just copy other people's ideas. He then did a LS swap in a Porsche, that Joe Simpson already did.
      I guess imitation is the best means of flattery.

      The front air damn you can get online for $300, take a couple special brackets where it wraps around the bumper which I have, the side skirts have a bracket they lip into that runs the length of the body, blazer vs reg cab vs extended the only difference is length and they rivet to the rocker panel. Which I have a few sets of brackets and skirts. The rear bed between the bumper and flares are the really hard to come by pieces, which I also have.

    You say that the bigger front sway bar will be stiffer, but if you run those blazer control arms you'll move the pivots in, changing the motion ratio. So you'll end up with a bigger sway bar, but not necessarily a stiffer sway bar. What might be a better idea is to cut that bar in half and widen it to fit the S10 arms.

    • @turboflush
      @turboflush 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Looked to me the arms just wouldn't reach.. cut off the welds on the ends extend and reweld.

      @Levibetz You can't weld a sleeve on a sway bar and expect it to work anything like it was designed to. Not only is the heat from a welder going to destroy the heat treating, a sleeve of different diameter and different material is going to change the characteristics completely.

    Street scene used to have a decent kit (man it’s been forever) back in the day, but I don’t know if they’re still around.
    Fwiw; I had a 97’ ext cab that had an anti wheel hop shock that mounted off the right side of the frame rail in front of the rear axle. I think (not certain) that the ZQ8 trucks had this, mine wasn’t a ZQ8 but had some sort of trailering pkg. So, if you’re not into dropping the coin for a set of cal trac bars prior to 4 linking it, you might go for another junkyard crawl and try to find one of those to combat the wheel hop.
    I’ve been super nostalgic as of late and I’m really diggin the direction this build is going. You’ve got me thinking about all the stupid, low buck stuff we did to my truck back in the day to get it low but still keep it drivable.

    L.T. Since it is a cyclone tribute you should do the 2000 envoy headlights, grill, bumper. Envoys Fenders had slight flares and bumper was designed to line up with the flares. Run the exteme fender flares, no body kit, envoy bumper, grill, headlights. Should all line up and look OEM. I love making vehicle that look original but were never actually made by manufacturer. I know alot about 1st gen envoys if you have question just ask. Look at the Hot wheels gmc blue s10 built by Steve Platt to give you an idea of what it looks like.

    I have a 98 s-10 with a ZQ8 package I bought new, I love the truck but the 4.3 needs to go. I know what you mean about how the v6 sounds. I think the extreme cladding won't look good, stick with what you have and lower the truck an inch or so to make it look right.

  • @hotflashfoto
    @hotflashfoto 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I think another inch or so lower to bring the natural lines down to meet the tires would be better than slapping on more trim and then having to figure out how to make that look right. And we all know you're gonna make it look like it belongs, so there's that episode or two to look forward to if you do that.
    But lowering it just that extra bit now while you're still in the designing and deciding phases will let you see it the way you want it to be without adding more cost to the project. If you have to tip the axle a bit to get the pinion angle just right, you can do that for now with a wedge until you design your 4-link and then reposition it permanently at that time.
    Just don't keep digging rabbit holes, only to have to fill them in later on.

  • @garybaumberger8631

    Back in 1995 when the vortec V-6 came out, (not the throttle body) if you got a 5 speed S-10 it came with a factory traction bar. It mounted on the top of the axle, (passenger side)and went forward to the frame, that might help with the wheel hop.

    ZR2 fender flairs would look cool

  • @WalterPidgeonsForge
    @WalterPidgeonsForge 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    ZR2 vs Standard 4x4.. the wider frame on a ZR2 means the sway bar length is different.. as is the Xtreme ZQ8 suspension.. the distance from the frame attachment to the control arm is also a big factor in addition to the sway bar diameter.. in theory if you move the frame mounts as far outboard as possible this will be similar to a thicker bar.

    • @fispallc3360
      @fispallc3360 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      this is what i was thinking. Moving it in will cause a higher load angle on the link so even though its a thicker bar he might not see any more anti roll effect.

    You need to grab more of the S-10 ZQ8 package bits, to include the rear differential hop shock w/bracket, rear frame cross bar stiffener, front and rear sway bars, and quick ratio steering gear box. It will handle and steer 1000% better, which is important since you're putting AWD V-8 power to the ground. (What I did to my 2001 S-10, but used C3 Corvette wheels)

    I had a 92 Sonoma 2wd with the TBI 4.3. According to the RPO codes, it also had a sport suspension package. Which apparently consisted of seriously stiff front coils and rear leafs, because if I jumped on the bumper like you did, it didn't move. On either end. I did more than my fair share of burnouts in that thing, and never experienced wheel hop.

    1. Ive been tellling the s10 community that same thing about the sy/ty cladding for over 2 decades now, and the internet will still argue with you.
    2. Contrary to GM's parts bin history, there are a lot of little changes between the 1st gen/2nd gen, and the pick-ups/blazers.
    3. Going awd will help the tire hop some, but i have seen these trucks do an awd launch with tire hop and be 100% off the ground. Since your focus is handling, avoid the desire to put caltracs on it. For that matter, avoid the 4 link too....there are better options!

    Even as a kid seeing them in showrooms I thought the Xtreme S10 and Blazer were a little corny. The scyclone bodywork creates the effect of looking lower and wider around the wheels arches but not as much under the doors or the center of the front bumper. It breaks up the lines along the bottom of the truck and avoids the tacked on skirt look that a lot of homemade bodykits suffered from back in the day.
    For this build I would clone the look of 2002 Silverado SS bodywork. That truck looked damn good. The 1998-2003 GMC Sonoma bumper would be a good base to modify. I truly think this project needs bespoke bodywork. If you use the Xtreme bodykit its just going to look like a modded Xtreme instead of the scyclone that never was.

    I think at the point of what you want with integration into the body it might be worth it to look into making your own body kit as I have seen a few others do, B is for Build comes to mind first, so you can blend it in better. If nothing else if you look at it and it seems like it's more effort than it's worth for what you are going for that's understandable, it's a lot of work for a mostly factory look vs something clearly over the top and fully custom, at least you you evaluated your options but it's another option to consider.

    So LT remember the parking lots with there big speed bumps when you lower your vehicle you risk leaving half of your under Carriage. I think your truck looks good the way it is now.

    IMO the sidewall size of the tire is good. The fenders just need to be closer to make them really look like they fill up the gap. I've played with a bunch of tire sizes on my Ranger for this same reason. I want a meaty tire but not a balloon or a rubber band for a sidewall, lol.

    rather than bolting more parts onto it, I've never like the trough or groove that seems to join both the front and rear existing flares. I might be inclined to just get rid of that completely and see how that transforms the look of the truck. With that being there, it already gives the look of having a body kit on it.

    The truck will probably look "wrong" without the rest of the kit. I'd use the entire kit for a nice cohesive look, but just omit all "Extreme" badging/branding from your build. Also, could you please put a vehicle on a set of Enkei or Konig or something aftermarket? Please?

    ZR2 and non ZR2 4x4 Blazers and S10s have different lower control arms. That is why the sway bar mount is in the wrong place. That sway bar came off a ZR2.

    So i have the same rims on my 99 camaro, with 275 40 17 and they are stock. They were part of the SS package and are listed on the windowbsticker as "zr1 style wheels" that might be why people are saying they are camaro wheels. Either way looks good and cant wait to watch the progress.

      @@lb9gta307100%. Camaro ss had the bow tie and corvette had the flags. No one would switch those out, but most guys know how it is, saying corvette motor or whatever when it really isn’t.

    If I’m not mistaken, if you’re going to do the blazer lower control arms, you might as well spend the money and get the upper ones because there might be a misalignment

    listen my s10 blazer just drove wierd on hiway was ok in town and when I say everything has been rebuilt I mean everything. let go of wheel it went straight but when steering it just was unstable feeling. I did finaly figure it out! the upper steering shaft joint was loose and busted boot. Had to drop column but replacing it and was night and day! This was after new rag joint and steering box.

    Okay, on tire size I've gone through a similar thing. The best answer is not what theoretically fits best, the best answer is what you can get. For autocross I'd recommend the Falken RT660 it's a "200 treadwear" autocross focused tire. Which means it's really not so much 200tw and is very very sticky. These only come in the 275/40/17 size, so I'd say run that. A RT660 in a 275 is going to have more grip than a harder 285.

    Would’ve been easier getting a 4x4 s10, replacing engine w the 4.3, swapping transfer case from Chevy Astro also used in syclone , swap it out for the 4spd t-case the 4x4 s10 has and now swap all the xtreme parts onto that s10
