LT if you try reading your comments you wouldn't have to look in old online forums, there's plenty of information available in the comments here. Some of us have been playing with s10's for years and as I stated previously, the shifter is a total bolt in, plug in affair everything is already there to make it work as factory (no wiring modifications needed). You just have to plug it in and install a correct column for the brake transmission shift interlock to work (plus, it gets rid of the hideous column shifter). Be sure to get a column with a key so that you can swap over the ignition switch (you need the key to remove the cylinder) then it's a simple reprogramming procedure to get the SKIM to accept the new code from the donor column. And the PRNDL will work just fine on the cluster as the signals come from the park neutral switch. I've done it multiple times in many S10s/Sonomas over the years, I fully option every vehicle I own. Power heated memory seats, floor consoles, dimming rearview mirror with compass, fully optioned overhead console, power heated dimming fold away side view mirrors, steering wheel audio controls. In some small instances you may have to install the donor vehicles BCM, but that's easy to get around as well. I just manual swapped my 4 door crew cab with parts pulled from a donor Blazer, it was all plug and play. You can't even tell that the truck didn't come with it unless you check the RPO tag in the glovebox. FYI the crew cab was never offered with a manual transmission in this country. If you can find it in the junkyard, you can install it with minimal issues. I'm very interested in your build (which is why I'm watching) and I just wanted to try and give you some helpful info to make it easier for you. Also, the tow/haul mode switch goes in the shifter plate, there is a different plate that holds that switch (and they are available in the wood as well).
Go ahead and throw that AWD in there. "Test" it before the new engine trans combo goes in. See if there's anything that needs to be upgraded before it can do a 4 wheel peel plus it's winter so there's the "responsible " reason.
I had a 1994 S10 LS 4x4 extended cab non ZR2 and it came with floor shifter. It was push button 4x4. I found a brochure online and it said that if you have LS trim and order the deluxe cloth bucket seats and automatic it comes with a floor mounted shift lever. Love your videos
I appreciate your desire to have everything working as intended. Back in the day, we did a lot of modifications to our old cars. I had friends who really 'butchered' some things up with their swaps. It always bugged the heck out of me.
Back in the late 90's I had a 77 Camaro that I installed a nice B&M floor shifter into. The funny thing is the Camaros had the linkage for the column shifter without the actual shift handle so my new shifter didn't interface well with it and I could never find a manual column to swap so I left it in place. It was awesome when people would tailgate you, just reach up and turn the ring to turn on the reverse lights. People would quickly slam on the brakes and give you a wide berth after that. 😁
Man I never get tired of watching your videos. You do absolute amazing work and I love that you were able to get the floor shifter to talk to the cluster. That was so simple for you probably but just amazed me. Keep up the awesome work! I look forward to seeing this project completed!
I like how you solve it factory style. When you explain for instance like the gear shift wiring, take it easy. I guess I’m not the only one that can take a lengthy explanation. We are here for your knowledge and curiosity. Merry Christmas 🎄
Yes there was! I owned a 97 ls s10 fully loaded 2wd 4.3 automatic with a factory OEM floorshifter! I later found out that it only was an option that one year only! So super rare but did exist!
When the second gen came out in'94, they discontinued the syclone/typhoon. They did do a sport version of the S10, the forgotten SS, an SS s10 until it was replaced by the s10 extreme. It was mostly an appearance package with better wheels and tires. Also LT since you are building this to handle GM did you a bit of a favor alot of the suspension on the first and second gen s10 was just heavy duty G body suspension components, so you could use aftermarket G body suspension parts, many are listed for both G body and s10. Can't wait to see more of the build as always I enjoy your videos. Everything is always so well thought out
It’s probably been said, but floor shift was available one year only in a 2nd gen pickup. That was in 1997. I probably have that wood grain cup holder piece with all the clips intact. If you want it, I’ll dig it out.
I really do enjoy seeing the transformation of this S-10, one of my all-time favorite trucks. My '19 Colorado ZR2 is great, but there's still a big place in my heart for both S-10 generations.
That little nut deal is called a Huckbolt. It works pretty good for applications like you used it in… Man,your attention to detail is insane. We love it keep it up !👍
He used thread inserts aka rivet nut there like a rivet. A Huckbolt work differently to threaded bolt & nut, as they are installed it provides a permanent Fixture that cannot be removed with Socket and a wrench you will need to get out a torch and cut them off
instead of a 6.2 ... why not do something completely crazy and go for a 7.0 LS? Happy Holidays LT and keep on making amazing videos! Love your builds and how you do things
I'm guessing because a 7.0 would cost more than a 6.2 with a power adder. They don't generally make good financial sense on a budget. This is his $, not a TV shows production budget.
My 1997 S10 LS ext cab had the console shifter. They didn’t make a lot of them! I wish you had time to put a turbo on the 4.3. Tony Angelo did a clone square body on the Stay Tuned channel, but he did not use a vortec 4.3. Love the channel keep up the good work!
Ingenuity and dedication to make things happen how it actually could have been… merry Christmas! And thank you for being committed (almost was committed) to making things happen. I’d love to see this one performing in LSFest west!
I have a 98 that I bought new that had a center console, I replaced it with a floor shifter just like your doing. I had to put spacers under the rear of the console to make it look/work correct ,they were about 1/2 inch. Once its together you'll never notice it.
I have done this swap in my 92 square body S-10. lit it up and pulled a wire from the brake pedal to unlock the shifter. I have another for my 2nd gen AWD blazer project. Supercharged 6.0L .
I did a 6.2 swap into my 09 avalanche. The engine I used was a L9H from a 2012 Silverado high country. If you can find an engine like that use it. The ones in the Escalade and Denali both had DOD before the Silverados did. It'll lessen the chances of internal damages for you to fix as I'm sure your going to tear down and go through your donor anyway. I'm very interested to see what your cam choice will be for this engine though, id like to see you run the BTR Trucknoris cam. It doesn't require a high stall torque and will retain good street manners. Happy building and Merry Christmas to you and yours LT from Alberta Canada.
I’m interested to know how you set up your L9H (completely stock or camed etc) and the before after results. I’ve had my eye on doing that exact same swap. I have a 12’ LC9 (with AFM) suburban and the L9H gives more power, more displacement, and no AFM without doing anything other swapping.
@@steveh4837 my swap is relatively stock. I kept the vvt and deleted the cats with a full 3" exhaust. Tuning is also mild, the onboard "dyno" through efi live claims about 455hp and 475lb torque with the tune I've got in it. I've also used the "Torque" app with my phone and my Android head unit to measure around 400hp and 440lb to the ground from 50ish mph. It's night and day better than the afm 5.3 that came out of this girl. And that's still with my diffs having the 3.42 gears! Truth be told though, you don't need to do an engine swap, just a cam + lifters and springs and a tune to go with it. In typical GM fashion, all these 6.2s share the same head and block design. The afm engines get a different valley cover and lifters. You could even turn your lc9 into an LS1 with the right cam and lifter and tune package. Rods are the same, pistons are a little different but not in a kiss kiss way.... Think about it, you could get way more motor for the money by building the one you've got. Just my two bits. In case you're wondering, I am considering the Trucknoris cam for mine though, more torque at the bottom and I use my truck for pulling my RV around.
I love watching you, i like the all wheel drives. i have 2002 s10 am working on it, my gold is a old Gaser look, motor is LY6 6.0 l pistons and rods ported heads with a2650 Blower, 4l80E with kit and a 3000stall and ford 9" with 411 gear tires 275/50/17" and 33/12.50/17" just for the steet
Thanks for weighting all that. Good to know the intakes are more like 30 lbs as opposed to the 100 lbs ive heard reported across the web. Almost as good to know Raylar only shaves 60 lbs. Wow learning is fun. Like I posted before people say alot. Lt you've done so much clarifying on this platform it's awesome, thank you. As far as your s10 goes I really think you'd like the LS7 versus 6.2L while it is kind of apples to apples comparison, the LS7 simply has more on the table, AND is more unique. Good go either way, thanks for your work.
I love the floor shifter. I have a s15 jimmy that I would love to do the same type of things to, aside the floor shifter because mine already is. Thankfully
Awesome truck LT! Can't wait for the 6.2. I might be just me or the camera angles but the (very nice) Corvette wheels and tires just look a little small in the wheel openings...
Merry Christmas L.T.!! Thanks for a great year of projects and congratulations on all your accomplishments . I hope you and your family have a safe and very Merry Christmas!!!
6.2 aluminum LS?! My guy! I mean it’s completely on brand for you, but my gosh! Super excited to see this develop. Going to be crazy exciting to see it vs the big block ugly truck. Really appreciate what you do! Thank you for doing it!
Merry Christmas, LT! Thanks for all the great videos this year! I can't wait to see what you come up with in '24. Didn't the 03 Camaro come with IRS? I know you just did that rear axle, BUT...
Are you planning to do a Syclone style paint job? It would look awesome! Gloss black with matte black ground effects and red badges would be great looking!
6L80, I put a Pontiac G8 engine and 6L80 trans in an '81 Malibu. What I learned, the trans is wide and hangs down a little more than I'd like. The biggest issue is I can't use the mechanical shifter to select any gear below D (Drive). I got it working w a G8 shifter (with tapshift ) and adding a BCM and wiring. Lots of trouble, imo. Stock, it doesn't have a dipstick tube, I have one from a truck but I haven't installed it yet.

No SS around this one of mine. Just a plain old brown truck. Lol

Recommend blind hold riv nuts going through interior to exterior applications.
Something about console shifters just make any build awesome
This bill reminds me of the S10 extreme that was built on trucks in 2001. What the LT1V8.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Merry Christmas LT! Thanks
I used that same shifter and console from a wrecked Xtreme in my 96 blazer hoping to lm7 swap it soon
Build it better love it!!! Merry Christmas And Happy New Year “T”
Merry Christmas Lawrence to you and all your family
Great job as usual
Hopefully you will eventually install a factory LSA supercharger on your project and set it up to run on e 85
Then this truck will be what I always thought you should/could have done with your orange truck
"I don't like the sound of a turbo V6." Thank you LT for actually saying it. Six-cylinders in general just don't sound right (the exception might be a Porsche GT3 at 9,000 rpm).
1997 s10 4wd had floor shifters as well. Think they all went to column the following year.
I could just smell that GM "mouse nest" smell when you opened the door and I saw the 90s cloth interior.
I would've shampooed, Simple Greened, disinfected, detailed and probably reupholstered that seat before reinstalling it.
Merry Christmas too you and family
The prndl indicators are in the LCD screen.

I did the exact console swap on my 98. Mine didn't have the fancy woodgrain look, though!
Looking great man!!!!
Always making everything look so easy 🙄 I’m jealous lol
Merry Christmas Lt to you and your family
Thought you would’ve thrown some leather Bravada or Jimmy seats in there. Nice job, nonetheless!
Commenting for support
6.2 with a 6l80e would be a beast
Happy Holidays!
I did think it would be that high but once the motor is complete it will be more
The chevy s10 4x4s had floor shift option in them!
Great video, LT! Are you planning on having Jeremy Bupkus on one of your videos?
He is still on Tv ( two guys garage if I remember correctly)
Nice Job
Merry Christmas bud
only in america is the start interlock on the column not on the gearbox called the xyz switch usually part of the selectopr on the side of the box
Happy HOHO LT 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎄🎄
Merry Christmas LT
The Clyclone/Typhoons are cool for being AWD (not an AWD guy) but it would’ve been way cooler if had a T56 or similar manual transmission in it
