Really enjoyed this one, I remember going to the pets corner with school in the 70’s had all kinds in there. Including a goldfish pond. The plant is Himalayan Balsam, nice but very invasive 🌺
I remember back in the 80's taking my kids down to pets corner. They had some different grasses growing and I nicked some seeds and planted them in my back garden, it's still growing there. Thanks for the video, brought back some memories but it's really changed over the years. Hope your boots recovered from the sludge. 😉😉👍🏼👍🏼
My Dad told me that the pill box was at the Spingwood/Woolton road cross roads during the war and moved afterwards. It was originally buried deeper so that the slits were at floor level. The soil that had been dug out to bury the (prefabricated) pill box was piled up on the sides and roof to camouflage it and provide some extra protection. Great video as always
I believe you are correct in that being an old riverbed. Garston Docks was built around a tidal inlet for one of Liverpools forgotten rivers. The culverted stream earlier in the video is the diverted course.
Hi George, l remember going down the pathway nightmare on a bike with all the mud, but remember what looked like a stream l was on the bank looking down, the abandoned building's could only get in one of them rest boarded up,but remember the small zoo. Great video 👍
That brook runs right down to mersey. Its been culverted and comes down through the big valley in allerton towers then up menlove at side of golf course up beacons field rd.
That was an old council landfill site, up to the early 1950's. Us kids would go over there of an evening looking for "treasure". The ditch was a lot deeper then,.that is where we ran to hide when chased by the "cockywatchman". They tipped rubbish right up to the ditch then bulldozed soil over it, that's why the steep drop on one side.
Well that brought back memories of our School's Cross Country course 😊, we used to goto Simpsons ground and have to run just inside the entire perimeter of the fence including along the side of the Cemetery and down a ditch through a stream 😂😂needless to say we were covered in mud by the end 😢but it did keep us fit 😊. That was between 1970 and 1975. Kid's these day's don't know what adventures there missing.😢😢
Alright mate, all that land belonged to the owners of the house which is now the ‘pub in the park’. The barn and other outbuildings were a council run farm with animals in the 70s/early 80. Behind the big wall were lovely gardens, a pond with carp in and an aviery
Boss video George an is right Adam for finding that, walked past there many times an never even batted an eyelid at what's behind the closed gates😂,like a proper indoctrinate haha 😅 but really enjoyed that one george an boss tip for the chippy too
Have you ever heard of tunnels under princes park?. Found afew bits of information on them but apparently where the entrance was (park nook) destroyed when they built the flats there
The pub in the park building and grounds were taken over and used as part of the National Fire Brigade Headquarters WW2. (official records )If you also check out the rear of the pub in the park building part of the building at the back was in the past fortified perhaps for defence during ww2. Also I was told by an old chap that he helped plant the trees in the wooded bit of Clark Gardens and that the raised part of Clark Gardens going towards Dead Mans Valley was infilled with WW2 blitz rubble . In a similar way to Crosby beach.
We used to play there as kids in the60s, the brook was more a defined narrower deeper vee shape which varied between 2-5 ft. wide and 6 to 12 inches deep and burbled along nicely. It went underground near the cemetery and iirc found its way to the river at the first garston dock. It goes under Woolton Rd into the towers, it used to turn right then and go under Menlove. Probably feed from a spring up th.e Hill near that footpath you did before. We dammed it up once, got it backed up for about 10-15yds and about 3ft deep u til we ran out of stones mud and branches. Happy days.
Deadies is basically an open overflow for a storm drain/ sewer, spent my childhood school holidays there and in Clarksy's in the 70's/80's, it use to stink in the summer, you can follow it all the way to the back of the crematorium where it disappears down a guarded culvert, back in the mid 80's they dug a massive deep storm water chamber, the mound of which you can see on the central reservation of Woolton road at the start of Deadies, once they did that Deadies stream would dry up in summer, the area of those woods on the top next to Clarksy's use to be 2 massive big open fields, those buildings use to be for the Councils Parks and Gardens depot and over that big wall was enclosed mini zoo/ aviary of sorts with all sorts of small animals and birds, the entrance being off a path that runs from the pub in the park and up between the Woods and a big wall, you turn left at that dragons tooth and it's an overgrown entrance left off that path 29:52
Right by me this was always down there as a kid last time was about 18 months ago. Hardly ever see anyone around there. Years ago where you found the money shot there was planks in the trees where you could actually relax. Don’t know who built it but they joust have put some effort into it. I also know where there is a mk1 escort. Which I found on Covid walks about four years ago. Not much was left of it then. I’m guessing even less now. But it must have been there 25/30 years as there where big trees all around it and it must have been dumped before they where there.
This area was my daily walk with my King Charles spaniel Daisy, accessed it from spring wood crematorium, very difficult in winter months with fallen trees and muddy paths, often came across wild camping, well known area for dumping of stolen motorbikes
We mucked about there lighting fires and smoking Embassy Regal in the late 70s early 80s.. The area above the valley was flat grassland then. The river that formed it must have run from Calderstones area (always wondered what filled that lake) through the flats on Menlove where there was a lake, across the corner of the Golf Course opposite the Derby Arms then through the dip in Allerton tower. It must have been recoursed in late 1880s. Hard to follow on the old maps. Either it came out at Oglet or Garston Mill. Shows what 40? years of wilding does.
If you carried on at the top of the valley, in the trees somewhere we stumbled across a house made of sticks, which prompted us to build something ourselves, the remains will still be there somewhere but when we dug we found old pottery and brick from ages ago
I just went for a walk around that area and got freaked out by a small grave plot with a little stub and a sign on it saying “Philip John Woods”. I’m confused cause the cemetery is far away from where I was walking and there were no other graves around. Anyone have any ideas?
Someone told me many years ago that an old man who lived in the house on the central reservation told them that a young gardener got too friendly with the landowners daughter and he got someone too sort it out and make it look like an accident,a tree was felled and the young gardener was killed, hence dead mans valley!

We lived in Allerton in 1960 and my brother (RIP) and his friends used to go and play in the pill box.
Brilliant video this George me and the wife enjoyed it,thanks mate 👍
Looks great, a nice ramble after that enormous Chinese! Which is the best one I’ve ever seen. Take care George xx
You've done well fitting through that gap in the fence! Especially after those cakes and special fried rice! 🤣
Brilliant video George. Pity Eric wasn't with you. I remember that farm and that walled mini zoo years ago.
I remember the zoo in 1970 there too, such a shame the way it is now..

Yet another belter video lad well done really enjoyed this one
Interesting video George I'd like to know more about the zoo that was there. Wonder if It's a bit like the old safari park near Walton jail?
Spent my school holidays playing in dead man's valley ❤
The mini zoo was amazing George, that was 1970. The council put rubbish on that corner opposite the pill box when there was a bin strike years ago.

Cheers mate i had to no one believed me that they explode ha ha
I used to play in thst pill box 50 plus years ago.
That old farm you were in. Was in full used in early 1970 . And behind the big wall was a birds aviary of all different types of birds 🐦.
Yes yes next half an hour sorted!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Mate this was bloody hard even one of the hardest places ive ever tried to find how you stumbled across this ill never know ha ha
@@g2emedia1977 I just decided to get lost in there one day a couple of weeks ago when it was sunny
Boss mate wonder if it can be seen in winter time this area?
There used to be a menagerie in Aigburth Mossley Hill where Mickey the Chimp escaped pre war. Also Otterspool Park apparently had a menagerie.
It was alot less overgrown back in the day
