They are not forgotten, we Jews remember during the Yizkor services held four times a year, and most poignantly during the Yizkor service on Yom Kippur afternoon. We collectively remember every Jew who has no one to say Kaddish for them anymore, along with our own families, friends and those who have passed in our respective synagogues during these for memorial services. I am sure the reason the crypt is abandoned is because their relatives perished during the Shoah and they either have no living family anymore, or their families never returned to that city after WWII ended.

I don't understand how such places can be considered "abandoned". While I'm not advocating for "The State" (any government) to seize property for profit, cemeteries and graveyards are a completely different thing. If nothing else, governments should care for, and preserve such places due to their history should the owners no longer be able to do so. I can't imagine that it would cost TOO much to pay for groundskeepers to maintain places like this, especially considering the budgets many governments have at their disposal. Plus, if you think about it another way, it would create JOBS. Jobs with a purpose. I don't see any negatives with that idea.
Made me think of Highgate too GV. I was trying to catch a few dates, but you were too quick for me, lol! The crypt looked so much more derelict than above ground, very sad. Thanks for a grand adventure. Please be careful!! Deb of Oz XXX

Oh wow, just WOW! How did you ever find such an amazing and unique and closed cemetery all at once! You are correct not to name this beautiful and consecrated place. It held both Christians and Jews but there is a reason that so many were buried together to protect their bodies underground. At first, I didn't think you should go down. But how would you know, so that those that can, will protect and document this place. That is a very historic place Cathal. And certainly, the Sphynx gives you an idea of who he was, or that he was impressed by Egyptian culture. Thank you for showing us around, GV. I'm glad you didn't fall in the underground vault. That was interesting, but a little creepy too.
Nearly went down but survived the fall lol
I'm Catholic. My father-in-law was Jewish. I have friends since childhood that are Jewish. For us, the difference in religions has never been a problem for us to love each other ❤
United in love and spirit
Congratulations on another amazing video GV
Very interesting 👍

Thanks 👍
This is my absolute favourite video of yours..Going down inside that Mausoleum was special..Your so brave I was holding my breath..Love you GV and thanks 😘
Thank you so much! I made it out in one piece 😱
Very interesting cemetery! The underground crypt was wild! I love seeing the old photos of the people.
Such sadness and beauty. Thx for taking us along with you.
Made me think of Highgate too GV. I was trying to catch a few dates, but you were too quick for me, lol! The crypt looked so much more derelict than above ground, very sad. Thanks for a grand adventure. Please be careful!! Deb of Oz XXX
Love TinTin and Snowy. Thank you for this visit to a very culturally significant burial place for the Jewish people. It does remind me of Highgate. I wish it could be maintained but appreciate the huge challenges in doing so. We should never forget😢 I recall seeing a statue in Belgium dedicated to all the people, esp the children, that starved to death during the war.
Very sad place and dark history
@@GraveVisitations originally built for the devastating cholera epidemic that killed 3500 in this city alone and nearly 50k across Belgium.
I really love you filming your explorations. Thanks from the states!
Thank you
the quality of the construction; abandoned in 1958 and some of the marble tombs and massive edifices still looking very fresh very intact
George Reni’s wife Fanny would be 90 years old if she’s still alive.
When you went down into that Jewish burial place I was panicking! I’m glad you made it out of there without incident 😬. The writing is in Hebrew.
I didn’t know that those half pillar’s meant a life cut short.
Thank you GV. You did it again!
Thank you again for another incredible adventure. Im also Jewish and I'm grateful that this is hopefully going to be looked into. I was told before my father died that my grandmother was a survivor of the camps. Thank you ❤
Thanks for watching, it will get restored a local told me so that is good to hear 🙏 God bless your grandmother ❤️
@@GraveVisitations thank you so much 💗
Great visit! Could have made it a two parter! Left me wanting more exploration of this cemetery although it is overgrown- but so peaceful! Thank you!
Serenity sue will be doing a video from here also so check it out 👍
@@GraveVisitations I most certainly will! Thanks to the both of you!
Many Jewish cemeteries in Europe look like this because the majority died in the holocaust and the lucky ones who survived left and never came back. It's heartbreaking 💔.
Taisivat muuttaa Israeliin.
There are Jewish cemeteries in the USA that have become overgrown also.
It blows my mind that you were brave enough to enter the crypt.
The most dangerous thing you would find in most crypts are some bugs. They’re just creepy.
I was worried that he might get lost down there!
This is a fascinating cemetery, one of the best you have covered. The closed down and abandoned sites are often the most interesting 👍🏻 Great work
I totally agree
Magnificent. Need more in low light:) ..and better 4k. Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for sharing this lovely and melancholy cemetery.
May these dear Souls find love and peace in Heaven. 💖🙏
Thanks for another beautiful cemetery, love those photos🙄😎
👍 Thank you for watching
Thank you for sharing this. I find this cemetery beautiful as is. Thanks for enduring the underground crypts. ~~~Liz in Milwaukee, WI USA
Thanks liz 🙏
Amazing is a word that you and I use . Thanks GV. For sharing this vlog . I was shocked to see the 800 Jewish burials I never heard of.
Thank you for sharing the cemetery on this video, what beautiful monuments they have.
Beautiful and magical cemetery!! The Jewish graves are written in Hebrew. And perhaps some were removed by loved ones when the cemetery closed. I noticed some empty coffins in the crypt. But it was fascinating!!! I was listening for evp's. Thanks GV and stay spooky 👻
Such a beautiful cemetery. A lovely respectful walk. Thank you.
That was so interesting and so sad. I have Jewish friends who would feel so sad to see that crypt. You were possibly their first visitor for a long time.
A local wealthy family is going to get crypt restored so a local told me. They are also Jewish
@@GraveVisitations that’s fantastic news.
Thank you for this video.! This cemetery is very... Very romantic..impressive i love that..👍👑🇨🇵
Glad you enjoyed it
WOW! That place is just so cool. I love how quite it is. Great video.
@@SleeTheSloth thanks slee
Thank you so much for this tour. Such a beautiful, beautiful cemetery. It almost seems fitting that it is overgrown. Let buried all rest in peace in such a serene place. I really loved this video.
Thank you for taking us with you x
My pleasure 😊
Majestic old Cemetery, it's my first video I had seen of yours. I love old historical Cemeterys. It's sad to see it un kept. Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed
Thankyou so much GV so sad to see those Jewish graves & tiny coffins in such a terrible condition, such an amazing cemetary nature reclaiming all, take care 👍
Thank you for showing me the most hauntling beautiful cemetery. Just loved it. All the way from Queensland Australia
Glad you enjoyed it
WOW!! That’s Amazing………..Cemetaries Need To Be Restored, And Kept!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for taking the time to show us the grave details up close. Great video, well done.
Thank you for watching
I was feeling anxious watching you underground - and I'm in North Carolina in the US! But I thought I heard someone coughing or talking a couple of times. I had a strong feeling that you have a bit of "the sight" in you while I was watching that. I would probably have gone down there, but I don't know that I would have lasted as long as you did and I certainly would not have gone down by myself. Brave man.
thank you for showing this. the sadness of that underground crypt was pouring through the screen. i can't imagine what it felt like in person. that was something else.
It was very disheartening to see it in this state. Thankfully I can tell you a local told me a Jewish family are preparing to get it restored soon. Thank you for watching and subscribing 🙏
I like this we're you are at, very interesting & old of course & alot of classic grave sculpture. Good video I say. Yes keep on going.
Thank you! Will do!
What a fascinating place! So many incredibly beautiful monuments and stones. Nature doesn't care who you are or how much money you spent as she slowly reclaims them all. That crypt has is unbelievable. You are a brave man to go down there! Thank you for another great tour!
That was wild.. I'd be scared to death down there....i was screaming. "RUN"....
A really impressive tour! Especially your underground adventure! Thanks!!
Thanks William glad you enjoyed this episode
Oh wow, just WOW! How did you ever find such an amazing and unique and closed cemetery all at once! You are correct not to name this beautiful and consecrated place. It held both Christians and Jews but there is a reason that so many were buried together to protect their bodies underground. At first, I didn't think you should go down. But how would you know, so that those that can, will protect and document this place. That is a very historic place Cathal. It certainly doesn't look abandoned or you would not have been able to walk through it. This was an exemplary find! And even better if it is kept a secret! Bravo and touché to you! ♥️☘️
This may be abandoned, but is still incredibly beautiful. Thank you for sharing. May they all rest in peace. ❤
This cemetery goes right to the top of the list , thx GV.
☝️ 😁
What an interesting tour of this cemetery. Though it’s grown up with plant life it nevertheless is quite beautiful and mystical. You going down that underground vault was a bit creepy indeed! It just kept going and going. I did hear some voices, at least two were when you came upon the statute of the woman/angel near the end. I believe it was bronze. Thanks Kindly and Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
What a find! It's so beautiful and so sad that it's been abandoned. I was so nervous when you went underground 🙃. Wow. Thanks so much GV!
So much history G.V. I wish we could sit and have a conversation with each of them. Thank you so much
That would be very interesting
Another fascinating cemetery GV! Thanks for the tour.
Well done GV. Thank you for being brave and sharing this with us.
Wow beautiful, haunting and sometimes downright creepy. And such a shame abandoned.
That figure you showed was holding a palm branch. The steel door you showed just after had the same thing layed over the cross cut in the door. Fascinating place...thanks🍺
Quite an adventure you had underground! Well done as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely beautifull . Thx for sharing this .
Sad, because many families were wiped out and there's no one left to care for them. When I was stationed in Germany, the same thing. Extremely sad. Heartbreaking actually.
what an ethereal cemetery.
Thanks for taking us there!
Wow that's crazy and spooky down there that's so sad to see them like that bless them all 🙏🙏 thanks anyway for being brave GV and sharing us it's such a big cemetery lovely photos the cemetery looks a bit creepy too take care GV 👍
We should put our photos on our gravestones, too. I know some people do. I enjoy seeing people from so long ago, the actual people, & like the idea of people hundreds of years from now seeing our own images on our graves. Very cool & very creepy at the same time.
Your videos are a balm to my stressed out mind, brother. Enjoyed every minute as always. I can almost feel the tension in me dissipate. Thanks for another nice, relaxing walk.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Beautiful cemetery. Have always had a connection and an interest in graves from the past. No one needs to do a thing with it. As someone said nature is enfolding these souls. If I knew I would be buried here I would feel peace. Otherwise cremation. This cemetery is divine- no doubt!
Thank you so much for bringing us with you amazing cemeteries. God Bless 🙏❤️
You are much braver than I going down underground like that! Had me holding my breath. Jumped and nearly dropped my phone when you slipped! Amazing place!
Very close call wasn't it I scared myself lol
I wonder if there was grave robbing.....the leg coffins looked as if they were cut with shears.....
Could be animals too.
Mice.
Thank you so much for this grave walk. This is among my very favorites, so wonderful. you are amazing.
Thank you 🙏
It's a very sad place, the underground crypts especially. You do wish that someone could put the bones in boxes rather than leaving them scattered about. As cemeteries go, many of those graves are not that old. It's such a shame that no one has restored it. I suppose it's always a matter of money.
Thank you for bringing the cemetery to our attention... I imagine their lives before they past...
Wow, you got properly spooked and I don’t blame you. Never in a million years could I go in there by myself. Fantastic place, great find GV!
Nearly walking on that bone creeped me out
@@radiggie safer to walk there in daytime.
It was daytime lol underground crypt is dark
Amazing that you didn’t get lost in this cemetery. It’s so big but very beautiful. What a shame it’s abandoned. Great video and very interesting!
Thanks for watching
Wow!! What a treasure trove of a cemetery!! It's just such a shame it's been abandoned!!
Was it difficult to get permission to visit?!
I can understand why you didn't give out the name of the cemetery!! The last thing you want is vandals going there to cause mischief!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED TinTin as a kid too!!
Thanks for the tour, Cathal!! XXXX 👏👍❤💞💙💕🤗
Very beautiful cemetery trapped in Time. We did have to wait for ages to get in contact with caretaker to get in. It's very hidden
