The reason for those holes being slightly small, and the outer diameter being slightly larger is because as the hot plastic is dispensed, it tends to settle a bit and bulge outward, as the print gets taller the warm plastic weighs down the plastic below it squishing it just a tiny amount, so your print will tend to end up slightly wider, and slightly shorter than designed. I'm talking fractions of millimetres... but it can be easily worked around once you learn the idiosyncrasies of your machine, the type of plastic and heat of the nozzle. You can reduce this bulge and squish by tweaking those variables, obviously hotter plastic will run and bulge more, some types of plastic will set faster before they have a chance to squish or bulge, and these can be easily rectified by hitting up a forum and asking around what plastics and settings work best for high fidelity, or accurate prints.
Hope this helps anyone, I doubt Colin will see this, and anyway it's waaay too late! Haha but if anyone is helped by this at all, I did my job.

Hi Collin, the accuracy of most 3D printers depends on software and such.
As far as I know many printers don't compensate the wire thickness it prints. So you're wire thickness is probably about 0.2mm wich makes the end result about 0.2mm. So if compensate the wire thickness in your CAD drawing you should be able to reach a better accuracy.

if you adjust the layer height in the 3D printing slicer, the finish will com out nicer but you will add a ton of time to the overall print. it all depends what you want. you can also speed it up in the slicer as well as slow it down. for me, if i were to print something tiny, i would lower the layer height to about .1 and lower the speed down about 10mm /sec . i really like seeing 3D printers out there more and more. have fun with it.

The dimension diference in the CAD and in reality is totaly normal and is called tolerances. You need to design with this in mind, for 3d printing the value used are between 0.1-0.3mm depending of the fiting you want (tight or loose). Great project and video as always, keep up the good work !

I would love to see these two work together. Think about it, they are polar freaking opposites. Colin is practically Wallace from Wallace and Gromit, with a love of life and his inventions being for the improvements on one's quality of life with some destructiveness on the side. He's the epitome of Chaotic Good. Michael on the other hand is a misanthrope who hates himself and others with a dark sense of humor and a knack for inventing and programming, ergo, he's Chaotic Evil, at least his online persona is. Seeing these two create something together would be a clash that would make for some interesting videos.

You can not leave the filament out as it absorbs moisture. Build a plastic box for the filament with a hole to feed out of and throw some dry cells in there. Also you should encase the whole printer in a box to hold the heat in. With these two things and a few adjustments your prints will work MUCH better. You should have put it all in a PVC tube or something to make it look like a normal cane from the outside and the battery and sparker are not that big.

Colin, plz make a console microwave, like for a car, that you can just plug in to the electric socket(if the car has one) and microwave things on the fly without having to stop at a rest station, gas station ect. It should open from the top and have a rotating table on the 'bottom' side. Then you should microwave some tiny foods, mini pizzas, little pastries, mini hamburgers and such stuff. Absolutely love your channel and hope to see this microwave invention make it from my head, to yours, and then all the back to my phone screen over TH-cam :)

You should try using a filament with some wood fill in it. I've seen it before and it's sandable and paintable and I think even stainable too so it won't look like a vinyl record with all the layers. Possibly a much more stylish mach 3 coming?
