    Thanks for mentioning how important it is to not obsess over things like completely cutting out certain foods. When I was first diagnosed I purged my kitchen of "bad" foods, counted every carb and protein gram, tested at every real or perceived sign of possible low blood sugar (which were often not blood sugar related at all), created charts, and was determined to be the diabetes patient ever. Not a very healthy or sustainable approach, especially as I would beat myself up if I didn't meet a daily goal for exercise or water consumption, and spent half my waking hours planning meals and thinking about how to reduce my carb intake by 1 or 2 grams. Thankfully a family member called me out after a few weeks, letting me know that developing an eating disorder wasn't going to make me healthier. I now have a much more balanced approach.

      Thank you so much for sharing your story, I can 100% relate to what you're saying. I'm very happy a family member helped you realize it wasn't a healthy path. That's great support

    As type 2, I control my diabetes without insulin or drugs since 1 year, after a HbA1c of 12,1. I can confirm that your tips really work. Important for me is also shopping only those products where I know my reaction to. My 1 pizza per month makes me spike tremendously - but otherwise I am very controlled. Pity is that I have many orange trees here in Portugal - but my neighbours are happy to get all these free oranges…

    I think another useful way to deal with eating what you want is learning how to make low carb versions of food you like. I find there are lots of good sources online, including Everyday I Dream About Food, that show you how to use sweeteners other than sugar and almond and coconut flour to make waffles, muffins, etc. Chinese food, pizza you can eat without spiking BG. Its usually under keto vs low carb. There are now also good products like Quest frozen pizza and keto ice creams that are good. No, it doesnt taste exactly the same, but it makes life a lot more enjoyable for me. Just another choice we have. Thanks so much for sharing all your helpful tips and tricks

I went carnivore and wish i could keep it up soley but it just makes my sugar go way to low. The main point for myself is I cut out all the junk processed foods and walk and that keeps me in remission . 🙏

    I have T2D that is now controlled with Mounjaro. I always find something in your videos that I can apply to my own diabetes management. I think the MOST important (and most difficult) thing to remember is that our “numbers” are not a score to make us feel good or bad-they are just data for us to use to keep playing that ever-evolving diabetes game. Your positivity is infectious. Thanks for all the great content.

    As always you put out some great tips. I am thinking about trying the Medtronic InPen. I have been using the same reusable Lilly HumaPen Luxura for over 10 years. But I have started having trouble remembering how much insulin I took or if I even injected insulin. Paired with the Dexcom G7 I think it will improve my control and I really like the Insulin on board feature. Thanks for all the information you share!

    Dosing insulin for foods that might otherwise raise your blood sugar only works if you have the tools for doing so. My endocrinologist hasn’t started me on mealtime insulin yet even though it has been more than two years post T1D diagnoses. I immediately went low carb post diagnoses and lowered my A1c into the low to mid 5s. When my endo sees these numbers she doesn’t want to change a thing. But the truth is I miss having a little fruit or whole grain once in a while. But until she sees the A1c go up I feel trapped into eating low carb always. Yes, I would choose low carb most of the time anyway but for now it is a necessity rather than a choice if I want to avoid damaging blood sugars. My point….not all of us are the same and our treatment isn’t the same. Thus, not all tips work for everyone.

    Another good video without false promises and click-bait bs.
    All excellent advice, especially the "eat anything" advice (with important qualifications). I have figured out my favorite carbs like pasta, but haven't figured out rice, which I don't often eat and, as a result, tend to avoid. I have a few standard breakfasts figured out but still indulge in something like pancakes here and there. I have 2 pancakes instead of 4 and try to have eggs and bacon to slow down all that maple syrup. I usually go high for an hour or 2. Whatever. Not a big deal. I'm going to go high sometimes. I could probably figure out pancakes if I ate them regularly, but I don't, so I make an educated guess and err on the side of going high and correct on the back end. I try to remind myself that food is not the enemy. It can easily seem that way since you have to put so much thought into eating, but I think it's good to relax and not get too caught up in the inevitable highs. Just try to do better next time. My 9th tip would be to take notes. It's hard to figure out how to eat something like pasta if you don't have notes to refer to.

    • @dwightl5863
      @dwightl5863 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In my opinion it's the maple syrup that is spiking your sugars the most! The pancake will cause glucose to rise but at a slower rate.

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That sounds solid! And, yes, to the notes! I'm in the process of developing a diabetes journal for figuring out food and blood sugars. I know there are a lot of journal options already but I think a lot of them are overly complicated.
      As for the syrup, check out Walden Farms. I get it on Amazon, no blood sugar impact and it's good

      Regarding rice, have you tried eating black beans with them? The combination makes a complete protein and for me, no significant sugar spike. From the American Heart Association: “The combination of beans and rice creates a complete protein. Beans alone and rice alone both lack certain essential amino acids. If eaten together, however, each contributes what the other is missing to form a complete protein”. For me, a cup of cooked white rice and a half cup of warmed black beans works great!

    Do you have any suggestions for my T1 son, we have been having difficulties keeping his BG levels lower at night. He usually spikes up then, we do pretty good during the day. He is using the Omnipod 5, in auto mode, but it just doesn't seem to want to auto correct to bring him down more. It's frustrating for us.
