Great work pal. Great to use the old floor as a template. I think if I ever had to do mine I’d think about going aluminium angle with checker plate to keep the weight down as I only have a 3.8m tinny. I always enjoy watching your channel. Keep the vids coming. 😃🐟🐟👍
Aus Adventure Excellent. I think you could do a vid on that. Installation, battery, charging and then motoring around using it. If my boat was bigger I’d buy one too. Stay safe pal. 😃🐟🐟👍
I always seal my marine ply then fiber glass it, then put a not slip paint on... i can't stand carpet, so hard to keep clean. You did a great job with yours! Just subbed 👍🏼
Watched again. Went out in my boat the other day, and felt the floor crack. After having a bit of a look I noticed that my floor has started to rot too, so looks like I have to do the same thing. Thinking about going aluminium angle support & checker plate floor this time to prevent ever having to worry about it rotting again. Stay safe mate.
@@AusAdventure That`d be nice, although i also like your boat. I like the 4.2 metre boats. Big enough to head outside but small enough to head up some of the small shallow rivers, still easy to launch & retrieve alone. I always get a bit envious when I see those Quintrex Renegades go past.
Nice vid! We recently got a hornet trophy, looking forward to taking it out. Right now we have to redo the floor as it was all rotted out. Keep up the great work.
Great video mate, super helpful! Just wondering if has stood the test of time and if you would do anything different next time before I give it a go myself? Cheers
Cheers mate. It’s held up pretty well but I think if I did it again I would use contact adhesive for the glue. That stuff I used is easier to work with but I think contact adhesive hold better.
Great Video. I see you used Marine Ply and also painted it to protect. Could you just use a good structural ply and Paint to get the same result? Also, what thickness did you use?
Cheers mate. I guess it depends on where it is in the boat and how long you want it to last. I have regular ply on the casting deck which I just sealed. I wasn’t so concerned up there as I can remove it easily from the boat and put it in the sun to dry. The floor cannot be removed and sits in the shade where I park my boat so it stays wet for a long time after I wash it. Hence why I used marine ply and sealed it. I want it to last as long as possible. As for thickness it was around the 10mm mark. Hope this was helpful.
Hey mate, was wondering if you could show us how you built your casting deck? I really like the size and layout of it and would like to do it to mine. Thanks.
Hi Wondering how you know where the screw holes in the aluminium are after you have the carpet glued down? I know you marked and pre drilled the ply? Also does treated ply chemicals cause reaction with the aluminium which causes holes to form.
Hi Ross I put a couple of screws in with just a small section sticking through the bottom of the ply. I then used that as a guide to find the holes in the alloy. When I had a couple lined up the rest found the holes easily. Hope that makes sense. The ply doesn’t react with the alloy but the stainless screws do. 👍
Hi mate. I store those items under the anchor well and under the casting deck on the starboard side. I try not to carry too much stuff so there is plenty of room.
Great instruction, mate. I’m almost due to do this to my 4.1 and will also install a casting deck. Is it necessary to seal both sides of the marine timber as you did or is that just added protection for longevity of life? Cheers 🤙🏻
Mate it was a case of I had some paint and I wanted to prolong the life of the floor for as long as I could. Especially because the new carpet was a lot thicker than the old stuff which causes it to hold a lot more water. The timber not drying out quickly or properly is the major cause of rot. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Mate what ever I take out of the boat I try to use it as a template for the new pieces going in. Screws are marine 316 stainless. I use Duralac on them to try prevent corrosion between the different metals.
The staples were steel so they rust really quickly and start dropping into the boat. If I had of found stainless steel ones I probably would have left them in.
I have to do a similar job so thanks heaps, that was excellent. Quick question, did you use stainless staples or plain steel staples? Thanks in advance, PT.
brett Beerman I have only tried a couple of times chasing Jacks. Got one from a kayak but that’s about it. Might be something I’ll give more of a crack of in the future.
Mate it’s a Quintrex Top ended 4.2m with a 30hp Honda outboard. If you want to see a bit more of it check out my USB install video. Thanks for watching.
Nah mate that glue is not a contact adhesive. That is one of the reasons why I used it as it’s easier to do one surface and you don’t have to wait before putting the two materials together.
Marine ply is not water anything unless sealed... why does no one seem to understand that... good to see someone finally do any
Great Video, Thanks for posting, it will be very helpful
Cheers
Anton
No worries mate. 🍻
I did my hornet trophey and mixed 50/50 fibreglass resin with acetone to totally water proof the marine ply before carpet. worked a treat
Nice one James.
That is a nice job.
Thanks Ross.
Awesome video mate, looks really goooood 👍 now it's time for fishing 👍👍👍⛺🔥🎣
Sure is. Thanks for watching mate.

Thanks mate. Yeah the carpet gets full of water and sand but it’s nice on the feet. Thanks for watching.

That sounds like a good plan. Ideally I would like a boat with a fully welded self draining hull. Maybe one day.

I have a Quintrex 385 I was thinking to put a casting deck and standing platform with carpet exactly what you’ve done. How much was the carpet?
It wasn’t very much mate. I think it was $80 for 3m. I got it from Bunnings so you could look on their website for an exact price. 👍
Aus Adventure cheers mate. Much love your way keep doing what your doing mate.

Just did mine and used 12mm structural ply and paint the heck out of it should be mint
Great vid, but question: Why did you have to remove the staples?
Cheers mate. Staples were mild steel so didn’t want them rusting in the boat. I couldn’t find any stainless ones at the time.
Aus Adventure having the same issue. Whitworths is the only place that does them
Hey mate, was wondering if you could show us how you built your casting deck? I really like the size and layout of it and would like to do it to mine.
Thanks.
Mate I had an engineering company build the frame out of alloy then I made the deck. Send me your email and I’ll take some photos for ya.

How much of that adhesive did you use for that deck I am thinking of using but not sure weather to use the 1 L or the 4L thanks
I will have a look and get back to you mate. Probably on the weekend.
How do u go about storage of life jackets and ropes ect, basic spares n toolset it looks
Ike no storage under the cast deck

Aus Adventure thanks for the reply, mate.
What size stainless screws did you use? Thank you.
Hi Danny not sure of the size as they were the one’s the boat came with.
I like as much plywood on the boat as possible. Plywood is cheap floatation!
What are you using for support in the middle of the tinny
It’s just the frame that the boat came with from factory.
What kind of boat is that? I like the set up of it…
It’s a 2007 4.2m quintrex topender c.V
Stupid question..... how did u get the ORIGINAL templates for the ribs?? And the screws are they treated as I have heard about electrolysis
Mate what ever I take out of the boat I try to use it as a template for the new pieces going in. Screws are marine 316 stainless. I use Duralac on them to try prevent corrosion between the different metals.
@@AusAdventure yea my false floor is a result of previous owner I want to ditch batteries to rear and drop the floor down
@@AusAdventure have u got fb so I can chat a bit more with u about ur build
I just have instagram mate. @aus_adventure_
Are you in maroochydore on the canals i swear we lived in that 2 storey house next door.
Nah mate Gold Coast.
Why remove the staples? Good job man
The staples were steel so they rust really quickly and start dropping into the boat. If I had of found stainless steel ones I probably would have left them in.
@@AusAdventure Thanks for the reply bud. If you can find them, monel staples are rust proof
I have to do a similar job so thanks heaps, that was excellent. Quick question, did you use stainless staples or plain steel staples? Thanks in advance, PT.
I pulled the staples out once the glue dried so doesn’t matter what they are.
Aus Adventure good thinking, I didn’t realise you did that. Thanks.
Good vid nice neat job
Ps. Is the hr running a small block in it
Cheers mate. I wish, it has the old red motor in it.

Nice nothing wrong with that old school 👌
Do you chase mangrove jacks
brett Beerman I have only tried a couple of times chasing Jacks. Got one from a kayak but that’s about it. Might be something I’ll give more of a crack of in the future.

For the piece of mind I’d paint it any way mate doesn’t cost much to throw a lick of paint on could give you few extra years
I wonder if that was old factory wood . Before you changed it
Yeah it was
Isn’t that a contact adhesive? You are supposed to put glue on both the carpet and board and wait till they become tacky and the put them together.
Nah mate that glue is not a contact adhesive. That is one of the reasons why I used it as it’s easier to do one surface and you don’t have to wait before putting the two materials together.
Any reason for removing the staples after the glue has dried?
Yeah they rust. Couldn’t find any stainless ones.
Aus Adventure makes sense cheers
How much would’ve it been in total?
The total cost was around the $200 mark I think. It was a while ago so Im sure it would cost more now.
Hey mate just wondering the dimensions and thickness you used for the plywood
Mate think it was 10mm thick. I just got a whole sheet from Bunnings. I’ll double check the thickness tomorrow and let ya know if it’s any different.
Just checked it. It was 12mm marine ply.
Is that 12mm?
Nah it was 9. 12 would be better.
Maybe a HD or HR under that car cover? 🤔
HR brother.

what casting deck
Not sure what you are asking about the casting deck mate.
