  • Learn how to carpet your decking like the pros on this episode of Flip My Jon Boat. I’ll start with the plywood, then we will move to cutting the carpet to size. After that I’ll show you how to easily lay down the carpet adhesive. From there we will staple the carpet down and then I’ll show you how you a technique I coined “the cousin tuck” - dedicated to another GA boy (and maybe a cousin) Anthony Jones and the top gun John boat. “The cousin tuck“ is a creative way to staple the corners of the carpet to your decking to give it a professional look.
    I made the decision to go with carpeting because the EVA foam shrunk at the seams in the cold weather. Also the carpet is going to give the boat a much more finished, professional look. I will use the EVA foam and some accents throughout the boat. If you have anymore questions about why I made a switch from carpet to the EVA foam, please leave them in the comments below.

    I will make sure Mr. Jones sees this video. I am sure he will be proud to know he inspired your cuzin tucking carpet job! Nice work dude! Be careful with that snow, if it gets high enough to make a footprint they will start breaking out the Kroger windows and stealing the bread and milk!

    Greetings fellow Georgian!🙂 Thanks for the video. What's an alternative to stapling the carpet ends if the material is fiber-glassed gel coated laminated plastic honeycomb panels? Is the carpet glue my only option or is actually rubber cement? I know staples will not hold inside this material. I'm concerned with the carpet holding around the 90 degree semi-hollow edges of this material.

    How did you attach the floors to the ribs of the boat? Or Are they free floating? In the middle of this project now and is a HUGE help! Thank you!

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As of right now they are free floating. They fit pretty snug. I’m leaving them removable for the time being as I do more to the boat and need to take them out. I do have some 3/4” self tapping screws (I’ve measured to make sure they won’t go through the bottom of the boat!!!) I plan to use to secure it a little later in the project. I’ve been doing some aluminum framing and bench seat modifications. I made the mistake of leaving the carpet in the boat and it’s a nightmare to get those little shards out...So I’ve been pulling them out when I do some drilling and cutting.

    You have any idea why everytime I roll my carpet around the corners the carpet pops up. I see everyone on TH-cam never having issues. I literally have to carpet the front and wait a day for the glue to set up so I can roll the carpet around the corners

    Home Depot marine grade carpet? Are you taking that grassy stuff. Do you have the exact name or a Home Depot link for it? It isn’t listed on HD site.

    Can you show the shrinkage of the Eva foam? Just wanted to see if there’s anything I could avoid doing to help

    • @flipmyjonboat4485
      @flipmyjonboat4485  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the video, I pieced together the flooring. At the seams, there was 1/16” crease after it sat this winter. To avoid it, you would just need to do one solid piece instead of 2 like I did.

    • @flipmyjonboat4485

      Just one; I coated it on pretty thick and added more hardener than recommended on the directions. You have to work a little quicker! I added the recommended amount...not sure if it was temperature or humidity or what but it took FOREVER to dry.
