    I really don't know the rules of this event, and I will concede that the structure of the American team seems here weaker than the structure of the other competitors. However, I feel like many of what looked like good cuts and even in instances where the opponent lost balance, Americans were not awarded any points. That seems odd to me. On a personal note it seemed to me the American team was not very efficient with their moves and why the emphasis on the low guard. Maybe it's just me but I favor high guard, zornhut and schlussel. if you know Meyer you know that low guards takes more skill and are more of a counterattack positions. certainly not very good at launching attacks from. maybe to feint to draw your enemy.

      Yeah the purpose of no points being awarded if both people hit each other at the same time is to promote realism of the historical art. If you kill your opponent, but they also kill you, nobody wins, so the points represent that. Each point scored is representing a critial hit or death blow, but that point is only granted if one "survives" to be the victor, unlike say modern foil fencing, which grants points to the one who hits first by mere miliseconds, regardless of a double blow being ultimatly dealt in the end by both fighters, which is unrealitic in the context of real sword fighting.

      @alpenjon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      At high speeds, it's pretty much impossible to convert an all-out attack into a parry-riposte. Double hits can be a result of low skill, but what you see here are highly skilled fencers - you just cannot avoid them unless you're fighting extremely cautiously from the distance with only single actions - but that's not fun IMHO.

    • @Judicial78
      @Judicial78 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Sportified version of what is supposed to be a martial art. None of the fighters respect the Vor, because they use their armor as protection instead of timing and their blade. This is a result of the modern worlds soft special snowflake attitude towards injury. They want to participate in a risky, dangerous martial art, but don't want to assume the responsibility of fencing properly and accepting the inevitable injuries that can result from it. Instead they are happy thinking they are "fighting with swords" when in reality they would be considered a "buffel" by a true fencer from the renaissance.

    • @alpenjon
      @alpenjon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Well, if you think they are mere buffel, then go ahead and beat them. If you're right it's an easy task. But I strongly suspect that you wouldn't stand a chance ;)

    • @Judicial78
      @Judicial78 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's like being proud of the ability to win at electrical fencing. It means nothing to me. And I train 4x a week and free play 2x a week so whenever you want to meet up I will show you how I handle buffels. I am already beating regional strong contenders, soon you will know the real me when I start winning nationally. Buffels are not hard to beat, even when most of the time "HEMA" rules are stacked against the actually HEMA practitioner. In reality, current HEMA practices should be called "SEMA" (Sportified European Martial Arts) and should rightfully include electrical fencing ;)

    Nice video and interesting sport. However some of the defensive movements are very ineffective while its obvious the fighters learned them in their schools and keep repeating them again and again. I don't say Japanese kendo is superior, but just few elements from there would improve the performance of those guys a lot: basic defensive stance with proper distance, proper deflection of point strikes instead of going for the same strike... and in general much more thrusting strikes to the head (unless pointed ones are specific to this sport)

    I hella feel America was cheated here. He landed a lot more of those and should've had several passes they counted against.

      Fuck no, the dude was wild, even his most successful hit was both a nonfatal blow (nose cut) and the result of kuhotovic getting his blade caught in the mask.

      alot of the good hits landed was with the flat of the blade, hence non lethal and not counted

    What sort of judging is this. In real life that knock down to the ground would of most likely ended up in death, but yes, the dang points.

    Great production but very greedy fighters and mostly bullrushers. People should learn to counter this strategy so it fizzles out of the community...

      Whippy? Most feders nowadays are still too stiff and dangerous.

    Сомнительные поединки. Не интересно. Как спорт неплохо, но синего закололи бы еще в начале. И глупо когда разнимают, когда не следует. Имхо нормальные битвы в доспехах интереснее, там и задействовано все и поединок окончен, когда уже противник не может держать меч.

      Подобные бои имеют везде свои дополнения в правилах и разнимают не везде)
