Cadillacs and trailer homes. God bless Texas!
I could be wrong but the combined value of the two Cadillacs and suv parked nearby are worth more than the mobile home. That 2024 ev lawn ornament cost $45-68k brand new last year. I’m just saying.
It does look out of place amongst mobile homes.

Impressed with your knowledge and care when handling this new EV.
I always try not to matter what I’m towing, but EV’s have a very particular towing procedure, that must be followed or I’ll be liable for whatever damage is caused.
Well right it shouldn’t matter what ever anyone drives, you do your job, an don’t complain professionally
What a nice lawn ornamate. Seems Cadillac spent more time engineering how to tow it rather than make it work right lol.
It's a GM. They haven't made a good car or truck since 1996.
Yea the engineers knew it was going to be towed often
What a silly comment, especially since after six minutes in I have yet to hear any reasons as to WHY it wasn't working.
@@screenPhiles it’s probably full of the cheap parts GM uses to save money and probably assembled in Mexico
@@tomasso883 That's also fairly dumb though I'm curious, what makes auto parts made in Mexico so cheap?
Never mind you literally pulled that out of your arse, I'd like you to expand upon that.
Exceedingly professional, and reassuring to see how thorough and careful this driver is with this vehicle. Impressive.
Thank You!
Damn I have a newfound respect for tow truck drivers!
Thank You!
Which two? 😂
@@JD_-_ Darn spell check! It should read "tow".
Yeah I rather see this than a bottom feeder repo-ing this car and brutally towing it.
Tow drivers are going to be making BIG bucks with all the evs people are buying.I am seriously going too start my own tow company.
Well, mobile chargers are. Tow trucks are probably going to need contracts with apts, or scams to stay in business.
Yeah cuz tow companies have made no money off of ice vehicles. Peak boomer comment
'Error messages'? Man, we are screwed if they're serious about this EV BS.
Legacy automakers where not set up for the type of software that is needed to be in evs that's why they can even get updated correctly like what happened to the Ford mustang
@@delgado76Tesla has the same problems and that’s all they have ever done for more than a decade. EV’s suck.
@@JetFire9 They really haven't lmao, you don't know what you're talking about
@@delgado76 software is software, Gas cars have already been full digital for 30 to 40 years, so there's nothing special about an EV in this regard (laymen have only made them "special" in their heads).
Exactly man, why can't they make the software and computers as reliable in EV, as they are in ICE cars. @@phillyphil1513
I'm more curious about what happened to the Lyric than the tow itself.
I have owned multiple EV’s. They fail like light bulbs. Unlike ICE cars that run rough or make weird noises while you limp home, EV’s just go pop and you are found on road dead. Drive unit inverters have a tough job and are the most common failure that causes this type of problem.
@@JetFire9 Maybe you have owned multiple EV,s though that doesn't mean you have any idea what happened with the Lyriq.
And by 'multiple' how many are you talking about because I get the feeling we're talking about the low single digits.

There is more that goes into towing a vehicle than I realized. I never knew about the hook up point. You do a great job of taking care of the car's you tow.

Very professional and caring about the vehicles you tow!
Thank You! I always try!
Huh, my ‘07 Lexus with 191k miles started and ran fine today…😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I have a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid 2 years no problem
As did my 2018 RAM Limited with a 3.0L Turbodiesel, and 245,000 miles on the odometer.
My 91 volvo with 400k on it did too. I'm going to replace it with a Polestar.
my 06 ford that passed 220k a week ago did too
Since I've got the longest streak posted I'm just going to say it. There is no question in my mind that the EVs are going to be WAY more dependable than our ICE cars.
Motor trend said it best, Alarming build quality. Good gravy, could you imagine car costing just over $80,000, being delivered with these issues?
Professional work, thank you for your time and video.

Chevy = Fisher Price!
Cadillac’s newest clunker right up there with their V8-6-4, HT4100 and Diesel powered cars. Why don’t they just bring back the Cimmaron? LOl
GM Junk
I’m scared to buy any new vehicle nowadays. Seems like automakers don’t care and just want product sent out the door. Even new Toyotas are breaking a month after delivery.
Reverse threads? Woof, that would have snared me a lot longer than it did you. :-) Nice work, I really enjoy your videos.
I agree ..who would expect that? Weird.
Doesn’t surprise me. The whole industry is moving backwards(car).
EVs, because of the room temperature these batteries operate at, will be a safe haven for rodents. If you're out in the woods like this Lyriq owner, strong chance its rodents chewing away at communication wires. Especially if you leave your car unattended for a few days. The car will automatically keep the battery at optimal temperatures, meaning it heats and cools it automatically. So, rodents will have temperature controlled accommodations😂
People are nuts #1 for not keeping their expensive cars in a garage. They depreciate enough as it is. I have the gas equivalent to this ,an XT5 & its a 2018 & it looks better than ones in the showroom.
@@richardmorris7063 The people in the video live in a trailer home (in tornado country). I would think they like living on the edge.
@alexanderkennedy2969That’s what I was going to say. If your ev is in a garage it will catch on fire and burn down the garage 😂
Easy fix, just don’t have your EV catch on fire.
Keep up the good work, I think every EV owner is going to like what you done 👍
Thank You!
The other day I provided a jump on a Nissan EV. He left the interior light on. He called for a tow truck thinking that he had to get a tow for simply leaving the interior light on. For warranty repairs and such. Kept telling me how the car was plugged in all night, 12 hours. The guy paid $250 for service, I was on scene for all of 15 seconds.
Didn't realize that even with a fully charged drive battery, he still needed a jump
People don’t understand that they have two different electrical systems lol I’ve amazed so many people before by jumping an EV lol
Obviously the 12v battery was dead, old and not working properly.. How old was the car and the 12v battery? No car regardless if its a gas or electric will work when the 12v battery is dead..
@@mamadouaziza2536 the car was brand new, but they drained the 12-volt battery overnight and thought all they had to do was plug the car into the Drive battery charger. These people have no idea how their vehicles work, I'm shocked that they are legally allowed to own them. just for the visual stimulation of the car's owner, I used a jump pack to boost his vehicle. He would have been Furious had I showed him that all he had to do was press a built-in 12-volt boost button on his dashboard to use the drive battery to boost the 12-volt battery. But I wasn't going to charge the guy $250 to press a button.
@@nighttow8780
Ok. thanks.. Sounds like a great feature to have a 12v boost button wired to the drive battery! I wish all electric cars had that feature.
@@Towtruck_Dustin Just curious, why wouldn't they build in a connector to allow the car to be jumpstarted with the batteries it already has? Different voltage, more stuff to break/cause fire, or just the rarity of such a thing being needed?
Its nice to see the old adage "tar paper shack and a Cadillac" is still relevant.
When my Model S died on the road at midnight, I put the tow hook in the front bumper for the tow truck driver, but the monkey still put the hooks on the suspension to pull it up. I didn’t care this time because I already made my mind up to sell the car as soon as it was repaired. I did. Loving being back in a reliable ICE.
Tesla is actually one of the few EV’s that the towing procedure allows you to hook the control arms. I generally do that because the tow hooks are terribly unreliable.
Seems that the ones that don’t allow hooking the suspension are the GM EV’s that have the electric ride control.
Wow, I thought they would make robots first, that can be tow truck drivers. I never imagined they’d train monkeys to do it.
What did your monkey look like?
Yup I tow For Tesla and nothing happens to them I do understand that it looks a bit more rough than the tow hook 😅
and what exactly did the monkey look like???
@@allaboutcars4835 Looked just you. Want a banana?
This Cadillac cost between $65-&75K Where they live at is only worth about $40K. But than again that is how they afford expensive Caddy's.
All luxury class cars, particularly Cadillacs, depreciate like crazy.
I own a Cadillac & you're right they do depreciate. I think the Lexus deprecated the least. Mine is the XT5 at around 57,000$ new. Its got 45,000 miles & is literally perfect though..I love it.
Nice informative video. Besides being heavy it seems to be wider than a gasoline auto judging on how close to the rails it looks on both sides.
Thanks Dustin.
Thanks for your video.. nice to see someone talking pride in their work. Keep up the good job
Thank You!
Wow! I watched the entire video. I had no idea the amount of time, knowledge, and equipment it takes to tow a vehicle. I literally thought the guys just attached a cable to a hook under the bumper and pulled it up. I can't imagine doing the job in the rain or in temperatures below zero with ice and snow. I wish Mary Barra and the Lyric well, but this is not a good look for either of them.
Doing our job correctly takes time. Unfortunately a lot of guys have gotten lazy and take shortcuts. That’s when damage generally occurs.
With the tax and all added up that was a 130 thousand dollar waste of money, battery alone is probably more than the cars worth😅
$64,310 MSRP for full-boat, base is upper $40K MSRP.
What a PIA to tow the EV's! Dustin is so very careful with all his jobs and then this one adds extra hoops to jump through.
I wrote in red ink an EV error message on my check book cover after watching this video. Thanks for the warning.
It’s nice when it’s 75 degrees and sunny out. Imagine towing this junk when it’s -15 out
do your research on EVs and cold weather. No one thinks about everyday vehicles and cold weather, but come winter and you don't plug in those vehicles. People complain and then need a boost because the small car battery couldn't start the car. So many people questions EVs and pretty much all can and will apply to the regular car itself. The average lifespan of a car battery is about 5 yrs +/- a year.
What’s the lifespan of an EV battery? Oh and what’s the cost of an EV battery vs a ICE car battery? Last I checked the Chevy bolt battery cost $10,000 while an ICE battery is right around $100 at autozone. If you’re an electric car fan; that’s great. I’ll stick to using the most energy dense fuels possible.
@@michaeln4018 I've done my research on EVs and follow a very reputable TH-cam channel on all things EV and battery life.
Dear Lord, what a nightmare. Great work!😮
I find it interesting that all of the tow trucks for these broken down EVs are diesel or other ICE. So what's up musk? Where is the CyberTow? Oh wait the battery will make the CyberTow so heavy that it'll have a range of 50 mi. And that range will be reduced by 10 mi each time it has to run the winch.
Debating whether to order one. They are heavy - about 6,000 lbs (really). The rear hatch can also be opened if you press the Cadillac crest in the center (not intuitive). The rollout of this car has been horrendous and an embarrassment for GM. I'm waiting for them to put a NACS charger port (instead of using an adapter) and bringing back Carplay instead of trying to reinvent connectivity (another fine mess that GM created for themselves). In the meantime, you will likely be towing these for some time.
If I had to order an EV, it would be a Tesla. They are the only ones that have figure it out, and have mostly reasonable prices. It’s unlikely you will see this car on the road in 6-10 years, parts won’t be available or will simply be cost prohibitive.
I'm going to wait and get one off lease or wait longer for the remainder of the heavy depreciation. I'd really like a Celestiq, but that is going to be a very long wait for the used prices to come down for one of those.
I have a 2024 Lyriq AWD Luxury 3. So far so good at 600 miles. I LOVE THIS CAR.
Cadillac is 3 miles away and they have Lyriq Loaners just in case...
I do agree. The rollout was HORRIBLE.
I ordered a Sport 3.
It NEVER SHOWED UP. I waited more than a year for it.
Ended up taking a Luxury 3 instead with the same color combination and a few more features.
It's electric motor and gear box/tranny are chinese made. Plus the bad electronics. Don't buy one.
I was assuming it had been towed before even BEFORE you found the tow pin !! lol
Just a detail, but to avoid any damageto the paintwork on the bumper and toy hook cover you might want to get hold of another plastic trim tool. The OCD in me would be a little nervous of pickingup a small scratch. That aside you clearly know all the ins and outs of recovering such a vehicle!
To get into the rear hatch of a Lyriq, just press the big Cadillac logo. If it was able to back up, why didn’t you just drive it up onto the bed? Seems the problem is intermittent.
Because you never drive a customer’s vehicle unless absolutely necessary, and you never drive them on the deck. Most companies have a policy against this.
Very informative video. Thanks for taking all the extra to explain
You’re welcome! Glad you’re enjoying the content!
Like this guy knows anything about evs
@@donaldsalkovick396 He knows enough not to buy one!
What's a brand-new Lyric doing in a trailer park, parked in the grass like it belongs there? 🧐
14:09 GM Ultium platform at it's finest.
Press the cadillac badge to open the back hatches on the newer cadillacs
I supervised the tow of my LYRIQ. To the delivery end by retaining the key fob . And was hands on of the delivery into a spot at the dealership. I hit a curb. First accident in 25 years . Destroyed left tires . Night time is difficult with the Lyriq as the lights are self leveling and it projects fairly close to the front of the vehicle. I got the towing pin out of the rear and carefully removed the front cover. But I detached the tether to it immediately. Wawa. At least the wrecker operator didn’t feel bad.
😂😂😂
It seems apparent that towing broken down EVs is the next up-and-coming profession!
It’s definitely only going to become more common.
Although he may say "this thing" about any vehicle he tows, "this thing" is quite fitting for the silly EVs some people are driving. I’m going to miss gas engines if they ever do, indeed, become extinct. The direction things are heading in this world is scary to me.
Wow, this is what Motor Trend reported just a few weeks ago. The Operating System dies which is what you are describing here. They recalled and stopped selling the Chevy Blazer EB due to this issue being widely reported after selling about 400 units. Motor Trend reported when GM called the Chevy the car started working again for about 15 minutes or 10 miles of highway driving. Then it died again. So GM took the car by towing it away like you did - and giving him a gas car which got him to his destination where he wrote the blistering report. For GM to be selling EVs before they are ready with a reliable OS is just crazy bad.
Engineering insanity went into the EV.
Awesome video thanks a lot

A 2024 GM product that breaks down in the same year. Pretty good for GM actually. Usually they break down at the dealer's lot.
Thats a hell of alot of work you have to do when towing an EV
Great video Sir. Thank you.

Great job. We haven't dealt with any EV's yet. I dread when we do. It's a few around my small town, but not many.
If you aren't a dealer, the chance you'll see one are pretty slim. The warranties are very long.

You must push on the cadillac logo for opening the trunk
Def not a fan of the i bolts I don’t use them unless it’s last resort. I had one start to unscrew itself while unloading a bmw. Luckily I was able to get vehicle back in park to😅
Goodness, looks like an all day job!
The Caddy will be redesigned in software. It just needs a lot of patches.
This is the reassuring aspect, at least the problems seem to be software related which are much easier to fix and improve over time.

Left handed threads. That’s why my last GM vehicle was in 1977.
Who was all screaming it’s right in front of you!!!! 😂
Touch the Cadillac symbol in the rear to lift up the gate
I like the plate on the dash!
If that is the guy's house...the car is worth more.
😂 I was just gonna say what everyone else's was saying.🤣 two vehicle's worth $120k parked in front of a trailer. The American way
Dustin, the patients you have with that vehicle are amazing. Myself I will stick to fossil fuel autos. Besides that, the batteries for them are outrageous, almost as much as the vehicle. Not worth it for me, nor a lot of other people that do not have the funds to purchase something like that which I wouldn't. Thank you for sharing it just gives us reinforcement of not buying those!
Definitely won’t see me investing in a EV any time soon either.
GM quality is terrible. A battery replacement after 150k miles is still much cheaper than the cost of gas over the same 150k miles FYI.
engines and transmissions cost a lot of money too . six of one/half dozen of the other.
@tabbott429 you still have to pay for the cost of electricity. You seem to think that because it doesn't use gas that it runs for free.
@@NicCageForPresident2024 nobody thinks it runs for free. But the average EV gets about 100 MPGe.
Do you charge more for EV towing? With all the precautions and extra time it takes not to mention towing a vehicle with double the weight, I would think so.
3 tons of dead weight for such a small car!!! A complete waste of natural resources!!!!
Can you provide a description of the cameras that you use to make these vids? The body cam is impressively clear and stable.
Cadillac and the home have pointed in the right direction of owning a NEW Cadillac.
Nice of GM to think ahead and provide a tow-pin. lol
Do tow pins use a universal thread so you could just carry one on the truck that fits all/most cars?
They’re all different unfortunately.
EV should come with tow hooks front and rear!
You can screw that hook into the front or rear.
I guess you know by now that you can push in on the Cadillac emblem to open the hatch.

wow, the last 2 months I saw a car that is NOT EV on fire in the highway.
I had a few new Cadillacs over 3 years! They were all gasoline driven. The first one was a $55,000 ATS. It broke down after only 300 miles. In the next 11 months, it was in the shop another 15 times! As years go on the tech tends to get better and better. So many of todays cars have so many computer components and such. When those fail, it's a cost but hey everyone likes/wants all that tech till it fails.
