Working on a new-to-me 1997 Goldwing with several issues including blown seals. Thanks for the video. I'm not doing a full rebuild, just seals, but it's great to have this for some day when I might need it. Which could be today depending on what I find when I go in there :) but fingers crossed. The previous owner said he did the forks but used cheap oil seals and they blew out almost immediately. Or maybe he installed them wrong.

Piece of cake, nothing to it😂 Great tutorial! I've been putting off rebuilding my '97se but you went in depth to where it's not as intimidating as I thought it was.

I think if you go step by step and are organized from the beginning, it should go smoothly. I appreciate you watching the video. If you haven't subscribed yet, please do. You'll find other videos of projects on that same bike. Ride safe!!

at 42:49 in the video you mentioned - after 50 tries it finally stayed! I dab small amounts of grease in the groove to hold the o-ring in place, this works real well

Thanks guys. With this video I was able to install new seals, bushes, oil, and new springs to my 89' model. Again thank you ! Today there are almost no garages whom want to book in a GL, and who does, wants your kidneys and liver to do the job.

A hint here - I spent half an hour and some choice language trying to slide-hammer out my seals. No luck. I then broke two picks and a new seal puller tool with not a budge.
Finally I went online and found the suggestion to use heat. I carefully used a torch to heat up the body around the seal to where it was almost too hot to touch, then I was able to remove the seal, though even then it took about 15 or 20 solid slide hammer type hits.

At the 1:33:07 mark in the video you torqued the handlebar clamps on the wrong order!! Honda states that the bolts closest to the front of the vehicle must be torqued 1st! Then the rearward ones to be torqued. It has to do with the design of the clamps and the way they are manufactured (the" arrow" or "F" must face front) it leaves a larger gap to the rear and makes for a better "clamping force" . That's one of the things they teach you at the Factory Honda Training center that I attended many years ago. This may help folks from cracking those clamp tops in half!! Same thing applies to clutch and brake perches - there is a proper sequence for tightening them (bigger gap toward the bottom)

Thank you for watching and catching this detail. I was not aware of this. Sounds like the training you received for Honda was very valuable. Your comments are much appreciated. Ride safe!!

Thanks for making this great video. I've got a 1998 GL 1500 Goldwing. Which I have to rebuild the forks on? And I was hesitating on doing it because seemed like a pretty hard job. After watching your video, I think I can handle it. I had found a guy that said he would do it for $250. Plus, I supplied the parts. That's $250. I didn't want to spend. I only paid $850 for my goldwing. This spring, what I found it. And I fixed everything that needed to be done on it myself. So like I say after watching your great video, I think I can do it now. I've just gotta get the parts ordered. And take the time to do it. I've watched all your other videos, and they've been great. Keep up the good work. I enjoy him. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Hello again Brian I found out markland used a 9 inch Ford rear end used by late 80+ rangers ,found all brake parts and wheel cylinders. On another note have any idea where this green labeled hose goes? 8:06

That’s great news on your research and finding all the brake parts. As for the green labeled hose, I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to. We haven’t done any work on the rear end, but happy to help try and figure it out if you’re able to provide a little more info.

Hello and thank you for watching and the kind comments.
We were able to look up all the parts in the following site. We choose to replace any seals and bushings and probably could have replaced other items listed on the the schematics.

Use this link, look up your year and model.
      Hope that helps.

    • @whatsbryanupto
      @whatsbryanupto  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi James. We often times use Cycle Parts Nation. I like it as a first stop because they show the detailed drawings of each portion broke down so it's easier to see and understand.
      Here's the link: www.cyclepartsnation.com
Just follow the link on the website to Honda, then motorcycle, then 1990, then pick your model (looks like there are 4 different GL1500 GW models for that year), then find the sections for front and rear brakes. Usually, if we can't find it there, then we start doing google searches. Hope that helps. also, thank you for finding my video. Ride Safe!!
