We are glad to hear your back is better Chiropractic can be a life saver no surgery or drugs. Keep on saving one old truck at a time with the help of the CTR team.
I really , really hope you kept this one Rick Its a gorgeous Old Ford and quite the Work Horse , I know its not a Chevy / GMC that you prefer but believe me , it will do the job just as well as any of those could ,,,,,,,
ive been a detailer for a few years now and that is quite possibly the best feeling in the world blastin off grime and gettin beautiful(well aged) paint. keep doing what youre doing. such an inspiration to soo many people. you and the wife are role models to any up in coming car and truck people.
Wow, Brutus sure cleaned up nice , especially the engine ! Now, he just needs some of that Classic Truck Rescue magic that you do so well. As an old Bricklayer, I am very familiar with the healing powers of chiropractic care. Do what the Dr. says and get the full treatment - in other words, go back to see him until he ( or she ) releases you. Too often, folks will leave the chiropractor`s care before they are fully healed. I had to learn the hard way when I was younger. It didn`t take too long before I realized that I needed to wait until the Dr. said I was good to go - whether it was after 2 adjustments or 20. Always a pleasure to see the wildlife on the CTRanch !
Those 68-69 Ford F-600s are one of the best wreckers and with the F series engine well worth it...........Thats when trucks were built to work hard and last real made in the USA metal and craftsmanship built strong and to last
I love the fact that you specialize in old chevies but I gotta tell ya I am enjoying this series on the F600 more than I should. The towing company I worked for in Indiana had one like this and we towed stuff with it that we should'nt have but it never failed to get the job done.I have the upmost respect for you Rick for rescuing these old trucks no matter what the badge is on it.
Love those old Ford trucks between 1967 and 1972! Funny you found a screw driver in the engine bay. I totally rebuilt a 1968 F100 with a set of S-K screw drivers, end wrenches and 1/2" Rachel/socket set in 1980. Love this old classic Rick!
Looking good. I definitely love the Ford's. Always wanted a 1964 Ford truck. The only Chevy I had was 1972 Chevy Cheyenne Super 10. It was the first year leaf springs were an option. And mine had them. I still want a 1979 Dodge Power Wagon. That was the only year with separate high and low beams.
That wrecker looks pretty good. Restoring it shouldn't be too bad after it got cleaned up. I noticed the David Bradley garden tractor in the background, my daddy used to have one identical to it. I would love to see it restored one day.
Love the old rubber mats power wash inside and the rest of the truck motor looks like a 331 Cid do not over rev in low gear shift to 2. After you get it moving
You're both right.Everyone who drives should know how to change a tire. When I learned we had bumper jacks, and you had to pop off the hubcap to get to the lug nuts.
My '72 F-250 "Betty", has a 2-barrel carburetor on top of her 390. It's a newer carburetor, with cable linkage. I don't like it much, and I'm going to find a 2-barrel carb for an FE engine, and put in new "gas pedal" linkage. Brutus is a cool truck man! I've seen one of those "Chassis by Ford" on a bus. I can't wait to hear him run!
Amazing what a pressure washer and some Elbow Grease will do to some tired old paint. Yeah Rick, the same thing happened to me with a flat tire. I thought the noise was a wheel barring or something other then a flat. after 23 years of occasionally driving my car I had to know where the spare tire, lug wrench were at to change the tire. On the Mercedes look on the bottom for a Body Plug that may have been chewed through by a pesky critter. AKA Mouse. Hope you feel better Jamie And nice work on the pick-um up wood and hope you feel better. Peace and tranquility on the ranch !!!!.
Look up what you can on the bed & boom. Also try to find the cross bars for the wheel dollies. Those will need new tires if they are old ones. Probably need the bearings cleaned and re-grease packed. You should also look in to getting some J hooks a bridal like used on roll backs so you can hook suspension parts and have your winch cable away from harm/not doing harm. Also you might want some lift/choker/basket straps. Plus a few snatch blocks.
If y'all do shoutouts can I have one in your next video I'm from Virginia and I'm interested in taking notes from your videos about how to get old trucks running and driving again thanks again Rick take care and God bless
I've had about 50 people ask me to do shout-outs. I really have to say I can't start doing that. I just started (in this video) giving credits to the people who have been gracious enough to let me use their music in my videos. I will continue to do that, but if I give one person a shout-out, I will immediately irritate everyone who has ever asked for one and I will also open the door for a shout-out list that will take up a couple minutes of every video. Then I will start irritating all the people who don't want to hear me giving people shout-outs. Its just a no-win situation. I hope that makes sense.
I picked up a crusty old f250 with a 390 about a year and a half ago... rebuilt the carb and sealed up about 100 oil leaks and its been my daily since then. those old FE engines are bullet proof... just a little thirsty.
In my country (Barsil) the ford manufactured many of these F600 series but they had a V8 gasoline engine at the beginning only had motors MWM, PERKINS and even DETROIT 3 cylinders were the maximum, but MERCEDES BENZ and SCANIA dominated the market.
That's a really good old truck Rick I have my dad's 1969 F 250 camper special with the same engine in it. Like you say, you won't win any races with it but you will pull really heavy objects with it. I think you have a 360 there. According to what I've read on the interwebz, the 352, 360 and 390 from that time were all built on the same bloc. The casting numbers in the block all says 352 and were built up from there to the 360 or 390. The 390 has a 3.78 inch stroke and the 360 has a 3.5 inch stroke. The 360 has, according to what I've read, has a heavier crank and more webbing built into the heads for strength. Also according to what I have read, the only way you can tell the difference between the 360 and 390 is to measure the stroke. Also the 390 in this time frame came with a four barrel carb and the 360 with a two barrel carb. The specs for the 360 were 215 hp @ 375 lb-ft with a 3.5 inch stroke and on the 390 were 265 hp @ 376 lb-ft. 3.785 stroke. So I think you have a really neat little torque monster there. I apologise for the lengthy comment. I just got excited when I saw that Ford FE big block. Looking forward to more videoes. P.S I need to thank you for a couple of tips I used when working on my dads truck. I ran a ground wire from the battery to the firewall and that made the instruments a lot brighter and I don't have to squint to read the speedometer at night. Also I repaired the rear gas tank by following your advise on checking and replacing hose clamps on the fuel line to keep air out of the fuel delivery system. Thank you very much, it was greatly appreciated. You helped me fix two problems on my truck and you didn't even know. Now you know, thank you. Again, I apologise for the long comment.
Tyre change I could do in 15 minutes. Screw jack to lift it and 9 wheel nuts. 9.00x16 wheel went flat on a north sea ferry freight deck. I did get to where i needed to go and got the tyre off and fixed the innertube on a showground with a few beers :)
Indeed :) and back in 1980's it was a rarity for woman to be in the mechanic trade, my wife worked with her dad fixing semi trucks and trailers, including truck tyre repairs.
Annabella is really a cute little dog, she helps make a great video. My cat lays around 30 feet from me when I'm out side, she's even used to the tractor running and the cars. She will also get up inside my Jeep or on the tractor. I surmised she was just being nosy, but after seeing your dog do it, it must be a animal thing, LoL. My cat is always looking for critters even if she has to go over to the neighbors to get them, LoL, I love that 454 Chevy truck, it's really coming along. That is going to make someone a really cool vintage pick-up truck. Good Job Jamie!!! You did a really nice job, that bed looks really great!! My mom & dad owned a 67 Mercury Monterey, it had a factory Cleveland 390 cid with a two barrel, and ran very respectable. I think ford did that a lot with it's big block engines that were work horses. Naturally the GT series came with a 4 bbl but only single feed. I really like that Ford F600. It cleaned up pretty good for sitting so long.. No doubt you will get her running and working again. It's a good looking truck, even the dash is complete. I love how you pressured washed even the interior, LoL, I'd of done the same thing. I'm great for putting stuff on the trailer and going to the car wash, I have to fix my snap-on pressure washer but it was never that great to begin with. I wonder have you ever used "Bed Liner Spray Paint" to do the interior floors of an old truck like that? However, if you choose to paint it, I guess some white paint and two good rubber floor mats and your good to go as I know you don't get to fancy with work vehicles used around the farm.
cant wait to hear ol brutus running, I'm surprised for such a big truck the engine looks tiny in the bay lol, I always expect to see a giant ol block of iron there
Homer is clearly feeling a little sad that he's out of the action, but he knows he's more than earned a well-deserved rest. You couldn't have gotten as far as you've gotten without Homer, he is a founding member of CTR and that can't be taken away from him. This new tow truck will kick some butt, though, and I know you're happy to have it.
You are absolutely correct. Homer is a founding Father of Classic Truck Rescue and is Number 1 Wrecker at the Classic Truck Ranch. He will NEVER be 'put out to pasture" and he will be even better than he ever was when he makes his comeback. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
The paint on Brutus looks a lot better then expected, now it just needs some rubber on the push bumper so it doesn't destroy everything it touches. That tire almost seems like they cut the bead when putting it on the wheel, which is real easy to do on those low profile tires, if you don't get anywhere with the manufacturer I would suggest leaning real hard on the installer.
Jamie, nice bit of staining work on buddy.Brutus coming well love that blue.Merc low profile rubber needs to be inflated at around 38 psi cold religiously, more so than a regular sized tyre otherwise tyre falls off rim with ease.
Hi Guys Thanks for the updates, Buddys looking more fantastic every time we see him. Brutus is looking real sharp after his bath to, Old tractors are just the same give them a bath and clean up some of the mess , you can add $1000 to their value pretty quick. It looks to me like after he's running a quick trip round with some white paint on the worst looking rusty spots, you'd never know he'd been off the road for a few years, and it would finish off his return to work nicely. I'm kinda wondering if that motor maybe hadn't run in that truck with what's disconnected maybe somebody was putting it in and never finished it. to me some of those wires that are disconnected seem kinda odd for somebody messing with it to get it running from the lay up before you got it. Take care out there see ya both next time.
I just bought a 1970 GMC 4500 with a wrecker by weld-bilt 4AH 10 ton hoist. . and an upgraded suspension and rear end, 5 spd, with a 4.88 , two speed rear end, and a 350 with pointless ignition. 120" wb....
I don't think that's going to be remedied by tuckin' anything in. I will get to work on that though Harry. Just had a long hard winter with some health-issues, but I'll get back on track. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Feeling much better thank you. No offense taken my Friend. I'm man-enough to admit when my stuff needs a little tightening up. Its not just the old trucks that require maintenance and upkeep around here.
hey, Brutus cleaned up nice, can't wait to hear him come back to life, btw, sick job on the bed, we did a truck bed similar to it in our shop, we're cabinet people ourselves, we ordered some very pretty birds eye maple, I can sympathize with the staining lol.
This is why I love s channel so much, this video was awesome. Hi Rick & Jamie, When I laid eyes on Brutus Bumpside the 1968 Ford F-600 Wrecker I was saying to myself I wish you guy`s would end up owning that beautiful Bad Boy. That is one hell of a Ford Tow Truck, truly fits in with the (Working Trucks) . Just think of the stories this guy could tell. I just wonder who was the lucky person that drove this truck away from the selling dealer when Brutus was New in 68.
Rick, Speaking for myself, love the classic stuff, hate all the blah blah blah, but the love of classics keeps me with you all your religious stuff is okay with me. Glad you found the way Everyone has a choice to make for themselves. A big thanks for the way you're ending. Nature and gods creatures are so calming to watch. Again thanks
Of course I'm a old truck fanatic and that the tow truck is a ford even makes it better , but that is one nice old ford truck . I think you should keep this one because if I can't have it I want to be able to watch it time to time . All kidding aside that's one very cool old truck nice save Rick .
That ford emblem for the F600 belongs on the side on the cowl and you should have 2 of them one for each side. It was more than likely removed and the holes filed in when they repainted that beautiful truck.
This is the classic CTR video, and I love them! I still think you should have named the truck John Holmes, but I still look so much forward to updates it running and driving.
Awesome vid bro and a key for the ford. A blowout is not something ya really need on fairly new tires though. The deer at the end topped it off nicely. All the very best to you guys
another great video Rick I probably shouldn't tell you this because Jaime won't be in preset even thow that tag did come off brustis the ones that did have them wen you open the driver side door they wear mounted be low the seat on the floor bord LoL
Hmmmmmm.....Now I have to go look for the telltale screw holes....not that it matters at this point, because once you give something to someone....its theirs. I will go find another one if I find the place where it went though. Thanks Fer Watchin' Again Barry. -Rick
The lower radiator hose is just low enough that it will really wear on your armpit, get it from the bottom you say...well there is a ledge that sticks out requiring you to have 2 wrists six inches apart.
And then there's that front bumper to get around. Makes a great step, but not much help when you want to crawl under. Thanks Fer Watchin' again Richard. -Rick
Ally cans and cast a few replica badges. Fine sand and kitty litter clay mixes as greensand and a small cope and drag (boxes to make a mould) and go for it, you can make more to sell on eBay.
I would love to have the time to do that.....seriously. It would be fun and I have so many rare parts that I'd love to be able to recreate and provide to people who need them. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Oh deer. It's always annoying when a new tyre gives out. At least it doesn't look like there was any damage to the car and you got to the shoulder safely. Unfortunately any brand of tyre can have bad batches, hopefully reporting it might stop it happening to anyone else. I had a similar problem with a brand new Michelin years back, I was on my way back from the tyre shop on the motorway, fortunately the traffic was heavy so I was going slowly and I started hearing a light tapping from the back. By the time people had let me across the traffic to the shoulder and I'd stopped the tread was peeling off the carcass. I stuck the spare on and went back to the tyre shop and it turned out that one tyre had come from a bad batch that hadn't moulded properly. The other three were fine as they were from a different batch, and so was the new replacement for the faulty boot...
Get some lubricant on those chains that drive the winches and some on the lug nuts too. It might need brake work (?) so it'll be easier getting the wheels off ;-) Nicely cleaned that up Rick. Can't wait to see it in action !
I was just thinking the same thing when I saw the chain in the video. Thanks Ard. What....3-weeks and change until you come to America and claim your F250?
Tires you bought 6 months ago should not go bad like it did but check the actual production date of the tire, if it sat on a shelf for a year or two then the tire gets brittle and can crack and chunks can come off suddenly. It happened to our Nissan Quest near Yuma AZ a chunk just broke off and the tire guy said to check the production date which is stamped into the tire side wall along with the tire size and max tire pressure. 😃
Mercedes flat..Jamie: "ya know it just wouldn't even be an adventure if something giggle didn't go wrong". IMO (That's God's way of implanting the memory). Jamie laughing about it IS special! A bet she got a real laugh out of watching this video and reading your caption about the Mercedes, no, God's flat tire light accessory.
Get that dog to fix it! It looks like it has the energy lol Man, I had a Staffy/ dalmation X (I think, it was bitsa, bitsa this, bitsa that) female, From 4 weeks old. Really you're meant to keep them with their mother till roughly 8 weeks. But she was with a bunch of Druggies and winos and I wanted to get it out of there so it didn't get any more mistreatment. I had to buy special puppy milk for it for the first couple of months. But it grew into such a cute dog, it was white with a black patch over one eye and after it got to about 4-5 months old it was chewing up half the furniture, and digging up the back garden and jumping everywhere. But we trained it and it was the best dog I've ever had, and it would stick right by your side all the time, no matter where you went. I had to give her up when I moved into the place I am at now, as they don't allow pets. But she went to a big farm out in the country , so I knew she was in good hands. I even went to visit almost 2 years later and she still remembered me, miss that dog.
donut leave home with out a spare lol great video Rick wishing you the best of luck getting Brutus running he does look good after a shower tho huhh thanks for the videos Rick & Jamie till next time peace out !!
My father owned a f600 just like that but it was a bright yellow 428 4 speed and it was a beautiful truck and had a 74 f350 tow truck with a 390 4 speed bull dog transmission he towed a 3 axle semi with that little truck but it survived she was built tough had a super cab and a duality axle she was a classic til she was parked and went to the scrapper a few years ago sad ending I was going to get to drive that truck to high school but it happens
We are glad to hear your back is better Chiropractic can be a life saver no surgery or drugs. Keep on saving one old truck at a time with the help of the CTR team.
The F600 is a great work horse, ❤LoveJim J&R mobile service and God Bless Y'all and your critters
It sure is. Thanks Jim
I really , really hope you kept this one Rick
Its a gorgeous Old Ford and quite the Work Horse ,
I know its not a Chevy / GMC that you prefer but believe me , it will do the job just as well as any of those could ,,,,,,,

Thank you Mark and Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Rick&Jamie buddy looks good. Can't wait to see the F600 run and drive under it's own power.
Trust me James. I'm all over getting that done. thanks Fer Stoppin' by again. -Rick

It really is in good shape for its age. Thanks Fer Watchin' Again. -Rick
You both work very hard. "God helps those who help themselves."
Amen. Thank you my Friend and Thanks Again Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Right nice find Rick! Good to see the ol truck looking so fine.
Glad Mr Brutus Bumpside's almost ready but sure is alot cleaner. Glad ya's got home safely after that tire episode. ATB Terry God Bless
I'm not a Ford guy but I really like this truck and have been waiting for this video. Thanks for sharing.
That wrecker looks pretty good. Restoring it shouldn't be too bad after it got cleaned up. I noticed the David Bradley garden tractor in the background, my daddy used to have one identical to it. I would love to see it restored one day.

Classic Truck Rescue That was a nice video, brought back some good memories of my childhood. Thanx
Love the old rubber mats power wash inside and the rest of the truck motor looks like a 331 Cid do not over rev in low gear shift to 2. After you get it moving
Thanks for watching Dean.
admire your effort on getting this truck .it is hard to get things but you are a cleared example that things are possible... keep it up
well i think i know why we love to watch as most of wish we had the toys you get and the good life of hard work

I kind of like her too Sue. Thanks.
love what you do you'll do a great job I'm in Hendersonville North Carolina what you all time

I like the Ford but Homer is still #1 in my book! Thanks for the video Rick and Jamie.
Good job Rick.

I think it is cool you two are always there for each other no mater what that is a Awsome marriage love all the vids

I've been looking forward to you showing this one some love,
good luck!

However, if you choose to paint it, I guess some white paint and two good rubber floor mats and your good to go as I know you don't get to fancy with work vehicles used around the farm.
cant wait to hear ol brutus running, I'm surprised for such a big truck the engine looks tiny in the bay lol, I always expect to see a giant ol block of iron there
Hopefully it has what it takes to get the job done. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
oh I think the ol truck has it, Homer does, anything Homer can do, brutus can too :)
I've been waiting to see this video. I have loved this truck from the first time I saw it on CTR 65.
Next video will be of it running. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
-Rick
love the big boy can't wait to see him running
You will see it soon my Friend. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Rick, nearly parade ready. Hopefully the 600 sees a parade or 2 in its new life.
Would love to see that emblem mounted. Looks cool!
always produce special videos.
2 thumbs up god bless
The paint on Brutus looks a lot better then expected, now it just needs some rubber on the push bumper so it doesn't destroy everything it touches. That tire almost seems like they cut the bead when putting it on the wheel, which is real easy to do on those low profile tires, if you don't get anywhere with the manufacturer I would suggest leaning real hard on the installer.
I enjoy your videos... back here in mass my friends has a f 350 tow truck i forward the videos to him ...all the best
120" wb....
Life is good, Rick&Jamie. Rick, tuck in that gut! :)
I don't think that's going to be remedied by tuckin' anything in. I will get to work on that though Harry. Just had a long hard winter with some health-issues, but I'll get back on track. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Rick, hope you're doing better now. And of course, it was meant with a wink.
Feeling much better thank you. No offense taken my Friend. I'm man-enough to admit when my stuff needs a little tightening up. Its not just the old trucks that require maintenance and upkeep around here.
Some classes line's, she's a beauty!
she just wants to make sure you are doing a good job
Truck Inspector General (TIG). Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
I like the way the deer wiggle their tails...
Brutus may have the bulk, but Homer still rules the roost! Good Luck getting o'l Brute running, if anyone can you can buddy!
hey, Brutus cleaned up nice, can't wait to hear him come back to life, btw, sick job on the bed, we did a truck bed similar to it in our shop, we're cabinet people ourselves, we ordered some very pretty birds eye maple, I can sympathize with the staining lol.
Not many You Tubers take the time to reply to every comment Rick much respect to you for that~ Buck
looks brand new after the powerwashing
Its getting there Randy. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
No problem I love the older truck because there have style to them
Me too.
I used to wash tractors for a dealership. yup, bees, and wear old clothes. lol.
Best done when its not cold outside. Thanks Fer Watchin' Again Chad. -Rick
Of course I'm a old truck fanatic and that the tow truck is a ford even makes it better , but that is one nice old ford truck . I think you should keep this one because if I can't have it I want to be able to watch it time to time . All kidding aside that's one very cool old truck nice save Rick .
love the tow of you keep up the great vid. god bless
Brutus looks good buddy
Thank you and Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
all the time ... Amen
Trust me...I am very-much looking forward to bringing you that video. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Awesome vid bro and a key for the ford. A blowout is not something ya really need on fairly new tires though. The deer at the end topped it off nicely. All the very best to you guys
Looks Awesome Rick, Good Job!! You & Jamie Rock!! Sending yous Love from Welland Ontario Canada.. Peace Out Bro.. lol ;)
Sending it right back to you our Friends from the North. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
djb420 I

Thanks Howard and Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Can't wait to see it pulling stuff
Me either Elliot. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
another great video Rick I probably shouldn't tell you this because Jaime won't be in preset even thow that tag did come off brustis the ones that did have them wen you open the driver side door they wear mounted be low the seat on the floor bord LoL
-Rick
got to be better than a bug bomb, thats what i used and can still smell it when the heater is on.
Nice job on the clean up but the orange cans of death under the hood should disappear lol.
Great video.
WATS up Rick love dat terrycloth bro n you n your misses did a great job on whitey
-Rick
Well, I am setting up for a more professional metal smelting operation using waste oil. I will keep you updated on that.
That was awesome it's great to see you both u get it running
Woohoo ! Love that truck !
Its growing on me. Thanks Ard. -Rick
Get some lubricant on those chains that drive the winches and some on the lug nuts too. It might need brake work (?) so it'll be easier getting the wheels off ;-)
Nicely cleaned that up Rick.
Can't wait to see it in action !
I was just thinking the same thing when I saw the chain in the video. Thanks Ard. What....3-weeks and change until you come to America and claim your F250?
Ah yes, there's that hahahaha ;-)
i dont no Nothing about cars oh trucks but i will if i keep watching your videos
Must've been an oddball tire....
I want that truck!! sweet....
Me too Leroy. Sorry, I need this one to go to work. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
wow looking amazing truck good jops
good job lucky man and lucky jamie :)
Mercedes flat..Jamie: "ya know it just wouldn't even be an adventure if something giggle didn't go wrong".
IMO (That's God's way of implanting the memory). Jamie laughing about it IS special!
A bet she got a real laugh out of watching this video and reading your caption about the Mercedes, no, God's flat tire light accessory.
yep more lights on him a tun of light to make him glow, and may be a semi diesel motor as then jamie would love to drive it
Get that dog to fix it! It looks like it has the energy lol
Man, I had a Staffy/ dalmation X (I think, it was bitsa, bitsa this, bitsa that) female, From 4 weeks old.
AHHHHHH! Tell Kevin I'll be by for that IH hauler - I'm only 3000 miles away.
*dually
I think Anna wants to be DOT or BAR inspector when she grows up.
I think you are right. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
looks like a za 361 or 391 engine in the wrecker , the Ford emblem you found had one on each side of a old unibody Ford pickup,y
