I did this sidequest for the first time on the remaster, never finished on the original game for ps1. The whole quest is ridiculous af, how would anyone have been able to figure this without a strategy guide? Talking rocks was the worst idea in the game.

I'm writing up my own guide for personal use in ff8. You mentioned near the beginning that you should equip "encounter none" before going to mr. monkey for the first time. Does getting a random encounter break the sequence or was that just to make things easier?
I just blocked now at Estar Mountains in the liars rocks... just try find an exactly point in the map to go to the right place... A little bit confuse... I saved near by to try later :)
