I love how thought-out and fully realized this robot world is. I also love Ratchet and Madame Gasket and the "Underground" song scene. And of course, Mel Brooks is amazing as always. Truly one of Blue Sky's best.

I watched this movie back when it came out, and I would agree that it's an underrated gem. The voice acting was great, with Robin Williams being iconic as always. And Ewan McGregor, Jennifer Coolidge, and Stanley Tucci (to name just a few) doing a wonderful job giving each character personality. Glad you enjoyed it 🤖😊~Caroline

Robots was theatrically released on March 11, 2005. It grossed $262.5 million worldwide against a $75 million budget and received positive reviews. Robots stars the voices of Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks, Amanda Bynes, Drew Carey and Robin Williams, and features music by John Powell. This was a very big movie; with a great cast and story.
What you don't see was; Ratchet was a up and coming inventor, who's ideas for making money overtook Bigwell's ideas of helping everyone. When a huge corporation like Bigwell Industries sees how much money they can make with Ratchet's ideas, they push Bigwell out of the company. Feeling defeated; he gives up, and just stays home. Not like he doesn't have money, or is not still making money from the company he built. It's just no one wants his ideas anymore. In come Rodney; with big ideas of helping everyone, and this give Bigwell the boost he needed to take back his company.
This was a beautiful world; built by Blue Sky's, and a wonderful story about chasing your dreams. It is an inspiring tale; sure to make anyone smile. This movie had something for everyone; young and old, even the fart joke was truly funny.

I've always had a soft-spot for anything from the mind of William Joyce: Robots, Meet the Robinsons, Epic, Rise of the Guardians, etc They go in a special mental list of hidden gems from childhood^.^ And for a man that has had some tragedies in his life, he always seems like a gentle, fun man~ He does a lot of stuff in my area, where he's from/is based, for children and the arts~~~ (and some of the people from his studio that I got to meet & his creative partner for a lot of things were also a treat to meet^.^)

Well, with the exception of the Ice Age saga, the Blue Sky Studio animated movies where always kinda shadowed by Disney and Dreamworks ones. If you're looking for another one of their underrated gems, you should try Epic (2013), which had a great 3D. There's also Rio (2011).

My kids loved this movie. They are all in their thirties and I can still quote whole scenes by memory. Also, thank you for putting the captions on. Most times the volume level of the movie is lower than the reactor's. Makes it easier for me so that I don't have to turn the volume up and down.

Although it's a highly underrated and underappreciated movie, Robots is in fact a good movie with a great voice cast, including Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Amanda Bynes, Mel Brooks, Greg Kinnear, and the late Robin Williams, who never ceases to make me laugh with his comedic hijinks and hilarious ranting! RIP to an acting legend, and the pop culture references are too good to keep! I'm not used to hearing Ewan McGregor speaking in a different accent that's not his natural accent when he speaks for Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I immediately recognized his voice the first time! And that Darth Vader voice-over bit was just the cherry on top 🍒

13:42 Fun fact: in the British and Australian releases, Aunt Fanny is renamed Aunt Fan, as "fanny" means... something else here.
Oddly, though, the _SpongeBob_ episode "Plankton's Army" still retained the use of the word "fanny" when it aired here in Australia, and as a kid, I was wondering how they got away with it. However, the closed captions say "belly", I guess because it matches the lip movement.

I don't know why but this reminds of the movie Repo: The Genetic Opera, where people have to pay for organ replacements due to a organ failure epidemic and they get hacked if they miss a payment. This makes me think of a potential sequel for that where organ replacement isn't enough anymore and the rates have gone up, so certain people have been secretly building prosthetics from whatever they can find(scrap/junk/whatever)and eventually that evolved into the 'Robots' civilization cos the robots needing spare parts and getting captured to go to the chop shop works the same way.

There is a WHOLE directors cut of this movie with tons of missing plot threads and scenes. I wonder now if they DID explore why Bigweld ultimately gave up in this cut. I WISH we would get a directors cut of this movie released at some point because it really looked interesting. There is even a missing character and more about Tim put in there.

I have fond Memories of theis movie (in german) from my Childhood. And watching it as an adult, it is really good. The Supportive family dynmic, the Idea of being replaced by the new... And Bender is actually way less annoying and way more funny then i remember - which has a lot to do with the vice actor. That _is_ Robin Williams, one of the only people who can really tow the line between funny and annoying and come out the funny side. In german it's a man call Michael "Bully" Herbig. He has his own movies, But I'm not sure if any of them translate well into english. Lets just say he is... sometimes funny. he toes the line as well, but his track record of coming out the funny side, while not _non-existent_ is way less consistend then Robin Williams. I am also guessing that Williams improvised Many of those lines, as is his want, which actually can make it pretty hard for other voice actors to match the energy of the moment.

when this movie came out was considered garbage (even that i still love it to this day) because ewan mcgregor had his reputation trashed by the star wars prequels as if he had written them, he just acted on them. and robin williams had a string of bad movies before. like bicentennial man or one hour photo. strange non funny movies that where depressing. this movie granted robin the opportunity to be on the night at the museum trilogy and ewan mcgregor also got out of the rot of "the destroyer of star wars" title the star wars fans give to him. hallie berry had no such luck since she just had released catwoman and that send her to the hollywood hell for like 10 years straight.
