It’s actually confirmed canon that in the movie, the exes weren’t killed. They respawned after getting their butts kicked, but they’re all American, so they all respawned down there and it was too much of a nuisance for them to get all the way back to Toronto just to keep fucking with Scott and Ramona. They just lost interest and got on with their lives.

Fun Fact: Scott's crude drawing of Ramona's hair was actually drawn by Brian Lee O'Malley himself. Similarly, Ramona's flashback drawings were drawn by O'Malley's brother!

Nega Scott doesn't actually do anything evil in the comics either, he just exists.
But in the anime they did something like future Scott that was cool
Scott's Yeti during the twins battle was supposed to represent his extreme Jealousy. He quite literally summoned a "Green-eyed monster"
The director originally planned for Scott to end up with Knives, Also the movie came out before the original series was finished, so the film actually influenced key scenes into the final books.
actually the movie didn't influenced the comic end, Bryan gives spoiler to production, but not enough to reveal the end, so the comic influenced the movie not otherwhise (even when we just had 5 books when the movie came out)
When they were realizing the ending wasn't working, O'Malley had shown Wright the art for the ending of the books and he decided to adapt that ending. The movie did not inspire the books.
Fun fact: The locations they film is all real locations in Toronto, sadly some got torn down by progress

Man, when this movie came out everyone in my college apartment LOVED it. All of us had our own copy and we had the movie playing non-stop on the tv for weeks.

Y'all should play the Scott Pilgrim game together, it's like an old style arcade beat em up, and it's multiplayer. Similar to the X men and TMNT arcade games.

I honestly think this movie is one of the best ever made. It holds up so well because the writing is good, the action is good, and the editing throughout is amazing.

In the deleted scenes of the movie, there is the alternate ending of the film, where Knives and Scott get back together. When everything was all said and done and the film was shown to test audiences, they didn't like that ending, so, the ending was re-shot so Ramona and Scott would "try again."
I remember watching this the first time and didn't get the reason why there is a lightbulb above Ramona when Scott was trying to flirt with her. Took me a while before I realise it was to signify that Scott couldn't turn her on.

god, i love this movie. in general, but also because my dad getting me to watch it at like ~13 and introducing me to wallace wells kinda kickstarted my gay awakening, and something about that is SO funny to me.
The graphic novels were first. They started in 2004. Then the game and movie in 2010. Which is why it has a comic book look. That was its origin. The comic strips you see in the movie is what the graphic novels looked like.
The literal amount of epic shots that not even marvel can pull off is amazing.
I saw this on pay per view when it came out, watched it on repeat for the whole 24hrs. Took me until baby driver to realize I had a favorite director as I didn’t know they where the same guy. (Edgar Wright)

Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for this one!!! 🎉 One of my favorite facts about this that they learned how to play their instrument!
So we now get to the live action movie which the animated show is based off of which was based on a movie never made based off of a manuscript written in the future based off of a memoir based off the events from this movie...based off of most of the graphic novels (since the final one wasn't fully written yet), which was also the source of the game and the prequel animated series not with the full cast (Gideon's actor played Scott)
It's a lot of fun, but of course trying to cram 5 and a bit books into one movie does mean a lot got shuffled around or left on the cutting room floor, as a result a lot of Scott's full development and realisation of how shitty a person he was got a bit lost, but it was still fun, with many classic Edgar Wright-isms, including as Boom says the X imagery (but also Os because Scott is Number Zero but could be an Ex) and still with a blockbuster cast - Kieran Culkin stole the show for me though - who loved being on it so much that they reprised their roles for the animated show. But yeah for me it's the books, then the show then the movie, but all high quality.
this movie is what all live-action anime should be, as well as some comic book movies. it'd be awesome to have this director approach Sony about live-action spider-verse movies

I actually prefer Brie Larson's version of "Black Sheep" over the official Metric track. She killed the performance. Also respect for Metric posting Brie's vocal version on their own TH-cam channel.
Also, fun little tidbit: the Katayanagi Twins have their volume marked in Japanese kanji characters, and they turn it up to 十一, which is 11.
Actually going back to this soundtrack made me realise my favourite song off of it was "Teenage Dream" by T.Rex, and I completely forgot that it was the song that plays right after Scott breaks up with Knives.
This is an experience watching someone who saw the show first watch the movie.
I haven't seen this movie in ages since it first came out, really took me through a trip down memory lane! Watching this reaction is helping me get through some really hard times right now. Totally forgot this movie was such a classic, definitely underrated in my opinion

The Clash at Demonhead song was in the show but Envy was holding the mic out for the audience to sing.
My favourite detail that I didn't know until my Nth time watching the movie is that during the Amp vs Amp battle, Scott uses a G.E.M pedal to summon the Green Eyed Monster.

I love the fact that when we first see Ramona at the party, she’s leaning against a wall, leaning is almost exclusively an American thing, so since she’s from America and living in Canada, she’s the only one that ever leans on anything

Guy... I know you aren't a gaming channel, but is there any chance you guys can play the video game? It is a Streets of Rage style beat um up. I think it has online multiplayer. You can choose like 6 characters to play as (Scott, Kim, Steven, Ramona, Walice, and "Knives if you connect through uplay or something"), and each indivigual character has their own ending!

I agree that its not okay for scott to date knives, agge gap/underage, right, but that's kinda the point. Scott, after Envy, wanted something Easy/simple. Not trying to hook up or get in her pants, essentially just someone to stroke his ego back to normal while they hangout. That all said, Thank You for not spending the whole video talking about it. I recently watched 2 different people watch it and its all they focused on the whole movie. wouldnt stop talking about it. This movie (and especially the Graphic Novels) are one of my 3 favorite series ever, and have yet to see a version of Scott's life been told and not been special.

It'lll always be wild to me how many people gave the creator of tihs movie shit for how Knives was written as Scott's girlfriend when like 85% of the movie is all of Scott's adult friends dunking on him for dating her. Like come on. You can be unfcomfortable with the age gap but saying the movie was treating it as a good thing is just a blatant lie.
