    The little 3D thing that was on the wall in the living room is of Leda and the Swan (aka Zeus!). How fantastic! A bit risque for a living room wall, but maybe not in the 20s 😂

    Your intaglio picture in the living room looks like Leda and the swan. Dear Sunny is so adorable in his take-over of his very own room in the house and he makes a great size comparison. l found your channel quite by accident and I just love it. I retired two years ago and I have been trying to jump start my creativity but I have been having trouble doing it until I started watching the two of you. My favorite quote is from Mum "Just glue it and see what happens". I thought I had to have everything perfect before I even started, but then I just threw myself into my artwork and it works! You ladies are wonderful. I put your channel on in the background as I work. Your soft voices are like sweet birds twittering and the soft music and nature sounds are so relaxing. Thank you very much for all you do.

    What a beautiful find. This dolls house is an amazing treasure.
    Have you thought of talking to a conservationist for some advice, maybe at a museum or archive ? I’m sure people would love to help.
    I have used clean soft paint brushes in the past to carefully dust of old papers and brush away larger particles of dirt. I have only dry cleaned paper, as moisture will cause water marks, regardless of how little is used, but professionals will know many tricks to clean of dirt and to fix loose paper back onto the walls too. Fish glue is a common agent to adhere wood and paper and has been used for centuries. It is natural and reversible and is often used in conservation to fix loose paint or paper back onto the wooden backing and can be injected with a needle and syringe behind loose parts, like the roof. But seeking advice from a professional is always best first.
    Fabrics can be cleaned by soaking them in cool water to loosen dirt and rinse of carefully, but keep colours separate from white fabrics, so there is no colour bleeding. Always Test a small area first. I leave old doll clothes to dry flat on a towel.
    Have fun this is an amazing project 🥰

    The one thing I remember from my youth was that carpets were not 'fitted' wall to wall and there was always a gap of about 10" - 12"around the edges, usually exposing lino or parquet flooring. Your doll's house would certainly have been like that originally. Really looking forward to exploring your box of goodies and watching your renovation of the house.

      Wonderful suggestion! But let’s not forget the V&A, the Victoria and Albert Museum! They specialize in things like this, dolls, toys, etc. I would consult both of them before attempting to clean anything.
      It’s not so much restoration as is conservation. You want to clean (within reason) and stabilize everything.
      And I LOVE the Chinese chandelier! Pretty sure that was a shiny brass finish when it started out as a Christmas ornament.

    Fantastic, that is going to be so much fun to decorate. I would replace the carpets though. Miniature oriental carpets, stair runner and tile on the kitchen floor. You two are so handle with needle and thread to freshen up the window treatments. It's a shame to block off the windows by covering them. I'd better stop and sit back and see what both of you do with the house. This is so exciting!

    Your dollhouse is a treasure, perhaps you can contact one of the larger museums for advice on cleaning and conservation. Dollhouses Past and Present does have some folks who may be able to help. Orvis paste soap that is used by quilters can be used with some items that can be soaked and gently hand washed. The house may be 1921, but you have some lovely Victorian period pieces too. If that is wax on the kitchen floor, gently scratch off as much as you can.

    I know you can clean silk flower’s by using a paper bag and sand. You put enough sand to cover the bottom of the bag, stick the flower stem up then crinkle the top of the bag like if you were going to pop it. Then shake. It’s great for removing dust and cobwebs from the silks. Maybe the curtains can be dusted this way. ❤the new house and Sonny’s room was my favorite with all the pictures!

    Wonderful video. What a fun project! As far as cleaning the fabrics, I'm not expert so please defer to someone else with actual experience...My first thought would be to hand-wash in Woolite or put into a net bag in the washer set for delicates...but again...no expert. Not even going to venture to guess how to clean the papers. The original artwork in there and papers are lovely! I do believe that the plaster art bit is of Leda and the Swan...which is quite a risque image to have in a dolls' house! All this reminds me a bit of the Beatrix Potter story, "Two Bad Mice." Can't wait to see what you do with it.

If you have one a small vacuum that is used for keyboards and the like is useful also. Hope this helps.

    Beautiful old dolls house .I think you should be able to gently wash the curtains and the carpets by using a gentle washing solution and cooler water like is it Fairy washing ( not dish liquid for clothes)liquid,or a wool liquid.The liquid is not going to Leave bits behind.But it should lift the years of dust from then..Use a clean new paintbrush to take away the dust in the rooms ,it’s surprising how much one will remove,it will also get into all the corners.Also it will clean the lights and dust the paintings.Don’t clean paintings with water in case they are Watercolours..I don’t think you can clean the wallpaper as it’s damaged in places and worn.Any water would loosen this .But you can get historically 1:12 wallpaper if you research into it and you may even get matching papers or similar to these.You never showed,but is there an attic in this house too?..It looks like someone has told you the one bedroom is hers lol..That was just so funny.Cats have such a funny way with them.Yet if you buy them a bed they won’t touch it lol.Loved the video ..Love n Light 🥰

    I’ve used wallpaper from the 1940s and I would be very careful about using water on it because the colors can smear.

    Leda and the swan is called a relief. Opposite of intaglio. I love the doll house. I think that is something I would have loved as a child since I love miniatures.

    Check out "museum restoration" videos. The V&A has some good conservation videos that I think you could apply here. LOL@Sonny ! My old cat Blackie liked to sleep on the front porch of my old dollhouse from The Waltons TV series in america

    What a dream house😍. And even cat approved🐾. It doesn't get any better.
    I would try to at least put the carpets in the washing machine as they look so dusty. Does your washing machine have a short programme with very low temperature?
    If you dont wat to take the curtains off the rails use those baby wipes that contain 99% water and see if the dirt comes off.
    I also wonder if the attic does open.
    The little heart-shaped picture looks like something I once got from my grandma. It was a little box made of cardboard covered in fabric and it contained a little Medaillon with Jesus or Mary. Your "picture" could be the lid of such a (broken) box. I also think some of the other pictures might have been (broken or unwanted) brooches or pendants (the one with the shells looks like a 60ies brooch).
    Have a lot of fun with your project! I am really looking forward to see the result.

    Book sponges for antique book cleaning work surprisingly well at dry gentle cleaning of dry surfaces, a book sponge might be nice for wallpaper cleaning. Sunny is a magical cat.

    Surprisingly Oxyclean is safe for antique fabrics. I cleaned my grandmother's childhood hand sewn lace dress from 1910s and it looks as white as if it was made yesterday. Make sure it is completely disolved and you can soak in short stages if you fear leaving it submergered for long.

    • @LynneWright
      @LynneWright 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oxyclean should not be used on some fabrics. Please do not use on the red fabrics. Fabrics need to be tested for color run first or it will remove old vegetable dyes etc.

    • @andrastetriformis6241
      @andrastetriformis6241 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LynneWright That's a given for any fabric or soap, but *Oxiclean is bleach/chlorine free and color safe.

      For cotton whites it is safe, but many antique materials were dyed with vegetable and other concoctions. In fact many fabrics were not to be wet cleaned at all. Oxyclean is fine for modern and vintage fabrics in general but not always for antique. It usually ruins reds. I learned the hard way years ago and have studied, taken classes, and do all I can to find proper conservation techniques for antiques. This house may be 1921 but I am seeing items from 1880s in it already. Makes sense to use old scraps. Some of the carpets may be 1960s samples, but the hall carpet may be two pieces of precious silk lampas.

    Perfect Doll house 🏠, beautiful rooms, Love it 💕, I would toss the carpets since there very old and keep the handmade rugs, hand wash only, and no clothes dryer. Definitely would use a mild cleanser. Love all framed pictures! Sorry but never cleaned a dollhouse before either, I would vacuum it out on lowest setting. Maybe just use water to clean walls and floors, maybe add tiny about of dish soap to the water your using, no expert here., Just advice. I Love your dollhouse and you both. 🙋✌️😃

    Sunny claiming the master bedroom made my day, although I want to see what's under the carpet! Brushes won't hurt, for the cleaning. I wonder what the Teddy Bear Ladies from the Repair Shop would do with the carpets. Probably soak them in some soapy water at room temperature, before gently rubbing them, rincing them, and pressing them carefully with a towel.
