For gold, try coloring the resin red instead of yellow. You will get a deeper gold. When I paint, I paint red first before I add gold over it. Learned this when I was learning how to do medieval illuminations. The chess board and pieces turn out brilliantly. Gave me come great ideas.
I made a set of Boards in the House colors of Hogwarts… I printed out the Logo for each house and place it in The center of each board… I sold them for $100 a piece at a craft sale 2 years ago… I got a several orders for them as well… they make great Christmas gifts too :)
Hello Mr. Steve... I am a resin artist as well and I have a better idea for painting the black lining of the chess board. You could use a card to scrap the paint all at once into the lines. It works faster and is effective
I would do it with a squeegee that has a hard side where you put like a very thick couple of lines of paint and then you take the hard side and run it down the paint and make sure you get all the paint through all the lines and all the paint that you don’t need you make sure you got the paint through the lines can go back into the paint bottle instead of wasting all that paint. And then take the squeegee part and use that to get the excess paint that’s left over and there you go and then anything that’s left can be washed off with the baby and there you go.
Hello Steve. It's been a long time since I've watched your video's. My tablet broke, so I was without one for awhile. I plan on watching all of the ones that I missed. This board looks great. When you added the black paint, I said to myself; "Why is he messing up his board?" Then when you wiped it off, and I realized what you were doing. The final project looks really good. I'm glad to be back on to see your video's; I really like them.
Great tips! Looks great 😊 . Hack from me, when you are going to use a mica powder, pop the powder into the mixing jug then spray some 99.9% alcohol onto it to dissolve the mica a bit and then stir, helps remove clumps and bubbles too
WOW your gold looks amazing! I never seen such a shinny gold in resin projects. Starting my chess board today I decided to jump on the computer and look up others mistakes hoping I learn to not make the same. SO thanks for this video,
Thanks so much for this video Steve, I bought the Let's Resin mold as well, and actually plan to make a board next week, so perfect timing. Love the tip of x marks the spot, so helpful 👌 Definitely love the squidey widgey already so I won't forget to do that😂 And the baby wipe tip was new to me as well!! You are awesome Steve❤
I do have this mold and it's so intimidating that I haven't done it yet. I think I may be able to give a shot now 😊. Thanks for the tips. ✌️❤️🤣 peace, love and happiness
The crosses are such a good idea. Main issue I have with chess sets - and so have only tried twice, is demoulding the pieces. I've pulled their heads off some, totally failed to unmould some and they ended up, still in their mould, in the bin..... So good to see your approach to this. I might try again soon. Thanks
I love how bright and glossy and perfect this is! Can't imagine why YT wants to make it hard for it's most prolific producers. Seems these big sites have to flex all the time.
Oh thank you! I'll definitely try these as soon as I'm able!! That's just not what I expected and explains some of my mistakes! Love learning from you.
This turned out great!!!! The mica powder was perfect. And I'm fessing up - I have put the wrong color into an unintended space several times 😂. Good thing I love abstract looks 😉
Apparently commenting during the video hurts the creator. Waiting until the end to like and comment is how the algorithm counts engagement... Love the look of that chess set!!! And that black detail pushes it over the top.
Acrylic grouting. Love it ❤. For hubby’s 50th I made matching Spurs chess, draughts and dominoes. Like you, the chess pieces are SO much better when you squeeze the life out of them 1/3 full 🎉🎉
Those colours remind me of Griffindor from Harry Potter. A chess board was the first large thing I made with resin, and there were 23 pieces that were defects!!😂 until I perfected them. Loved the information. Thanks, steve. Lv from Cumbria ❤
The very first board I made, I did the exact same thing… not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES!!! So, nope… you are not alone in filling the next square with the same color! lol
My son and my granddaughter play chess. I am going to study your tutorial and make this a Christmas gift for them! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful creation! Texas USA
Thank goodness for the children 😂😂 bc my kids are loaded up too! Along with my kids’ friends & whoever else takes an interest LOL Great chess/checker set Steve! Love the color combo ❤. Now I’m thinking black & red with gold ..or black & gold with red exterior 😅 Possibilities are endless. Great fun!🤩
I love this color story! May use it for a Gryffindor chest set! It’s always so disappointing when you demold those pieces and a bubble stop them from forming all the way!
WOW!! That was a nice looking chess board and pieces. As an aside, I did check out your link for Let's Resin (don't know why I haven't before now) and was amazed at the prices. Thank you for the link.
That turned out amazing! Steve can you use table top resin for the chess board using the same technique you just showed us? I love how that gold & red turned out! ❤ You did a beautiful job as always.
I make and sell a lot of these chess/checkers boards. The problem I had at first that the board itself would warp in the shop because they turned off the a/c at night. To solve that problem I purchase an unfinished frame at a local craft store, then place the board in the frame and pour epoxy over the board just enough to cover. Let it set for two days, add glitter or paint in coordinating colors, then finish pouring epoxy all over the frame and board. Not to brag, but it solved the warping problem. I love watching you, you have taught me so much and I,thank you.
Wow Steve! It turned out gorgeous! I do have this mold and I have been very intimidated by it. Once again you gave me the push I needed to have a play with it. Thank you so much for this and thank you as well to the member who asked about it 🤗 ❤
Your work is fantastic! I’m going to be making a chess board for the first time but my question is Can you use the squidgy widgy method in the chess pieces when using chameleon mica powder?? I’d love to see a tutorial of a chess board using chameleon powder!
How much do you charge for the chess sets you make Steve? Your son's set came out really smart. I really like the colours he chose. Let's Resin moulds really are superior aren't they! Have a lovely weekend!
Can you use the same baby wipe technique with other indented molds? I find that a lot of my indentations that I wanna color don't tend to hold the acrylic paint much =/ often comes out patchy looking
As far as views go... I have to look for you these days and I'm subscribed. If I don't click it right away, it disappears from my feed. And it's crazy that if I look at something different my feed is filled with more of the same and wipes most of what I wanted to see.
Love how u explain every step nice and clear st to the ponit

Also a needle nosed tip bottle is amazing with nearly no clean up.

Perfect Timing! I just bought this mold and was contemplating how to use it. Thank you Steve.
My husband was just talking about making chess sets. I've sent him the link to this video! Perfect timing! Big Squishy Hugs!
The best chess set I've seen done, well done Steve ❤
LOL! Your son keeps nicking so much of your stuff! Great videos! Loving them.

Thanks for showing this! I've been struggling with the board so it helps to see this!!

This is absolutely stunning! Just a shame I haven’t got anyone who plays chess so I can make one😂 Keep doing what you’re doing Steve. You’re a star!

Like the idea of the x mark
Thank you for the many tips and tricks. I've been wanting to make one.

Great job 🎉 it turned out perfectly! Beautiful set 😊
Gorgeous set, Steve! Thank you! Love the 'X' tip for every other square. Your son is a lucky guy!
🎉Wonderful tutorial 😊
Brilliant. I have just bought a kit. You explain it sooo well
Acrylic grouting. Love it ❤. For hubby’s 50th I made matching Spurs chess, draughts and dominoes. Like you, the chess pieces are SO much better when you squeeze the life out of them 1/3 full 🎉🎉

Just beautiful. Very rich looking colors.
I love your channel!!! Beautiful work
Oh yes Steve, I have done that, put the wrong colour resin in the wrong part, so annoying, LOL. Thanks for the great tip, I love it!
I love the way you marked the back. What a good idea!
Thanks for sharing.i have done a couple chess boards but will incorporate some of your tips on making the pieces. Thank you! ❤
Gorgeous chess set.❤ And that red! It's actual, proper red! Love it.
Gorgeous! The black lines really make the red and gold pop. Thanks for the tip about using pigment and mice together for richer colors. 😊
Nail art tape makes good lines on a chessboard.
Best one I’ve seen made! Well done Steve xxxx

Luv the black outline with the white border ❤
Looks amazing Steve, hope your son loves it x
That’s really nice!

I am so glad I watched this first! Excited to start my own tomorrow!
I love this color story! May use it for a Gryffindor chest set! It’s always so disappointing when you demold those pieces and a bubble stop them from forming all the way!
Wow, great results. What a lovely gift for your Son. He should be proud to own that handmade with love from his father.
New subscriber as of now 👍

What no glitter Steve?!! 🤣🤣 Beautiful outcome. What would that sell for?
I wondered about coloring the squares with interference/chameleon powder and then dumping black over the whole thing
How much do you charge for the chess sets you make Steve? Your son's set came out really smart. I really like the colours he chose. Let's Resin moulds really are superior aren't they! Have a lovely weekend!
Done it many times
Looks lovely. Thanks for another quality video.
Quick question...what quantities of resin are needed for the set?
Absolutely beautiful!! How much would you sell this for??
do you have a video on how to make the resin look metallic such as silver, bronze coloring. I can't seem to get the color just right.
do you clean your pipettes or just toss them after use?
Can you use the same baby wipe technique with other indented molds? I find that a lot of my indentations that I wanna color don't tend to hold the acrylic paint much =/ often comes out patchy looking
How much resin did you use for the squares, and pieces?
I am new to resin and have not tried a chess set, but I have put a quilt square in the wrong spot, and sideways to boot!
This is what I’m having trouble with. I’m trying to make a sports team for my son
As far as views go... I have to look for you these days and I'm subscribed. If I don't click it right away, it disappears from my feed. And it's crazy that if I look at something different my feed is filled with more of the same and wipes most of what I wanted to see.
The mold definitely wasn’t square. Did you do anything to fix that? Or did it straighten with the weight of the resin?
the chess set mold I purchased is tournament sized and the mold has very thick walls. I have yet to use it though.
It’s the time of year. Lots of people go on holiday and views drop, unless you’re retired like me lol
Do you think these would sell well on Etsy and how much would you charge for them?
