Great video. Fans of SH Foresters are a small but important, clever and good-looking audience demographic. Re the top-end knock, you would know this already, but for other viewers - watch out for old knock sensors spitting out a lot of false positives. Mine (2008 vintage) was claiming heaps of knock on the dyno when clearly there was none (rebuilt engine on E85). Symptoms of a too-old knock sensor on the road include stumbling/protesting under medium load (eg 4th gear up a medium hill) as the ECU pulls heaps of timing and makes loss of power, adding heat, etc. even worse.
Lol yeah. The 32 bit ecu is pretty sensitive to noises but the point in the video where the ecu heard det coincided with when I heard a single click of det on my det cans so I know it was real. Noises like vibrations, rattles and forged pistons can play havoc with the std 32 bit ecu though
Nice one - i was laughing at the moments like “probably” when referring to “limiting” the upgrades to the rear ARB and of course the exhaust. But nice to see the update, keep em coming!
Its strange for me to see an Ej205 in a Sh5, with a push button start haha. Lovely car, I feel the same way about my Bugeye, could use a smidge of modern touches, double din, tune and some suspension but the interior still holds up well and feels equally as functional as newer veh that I get to work on. ( i would like a back up cam, Im enamored by them lately) The plastic surfaces that cause jingles can always use a soft pad inside at least to quiet it down alittle. Cheers mate!
It needs more engine safety parts like a massive front mount intercooler lol, looks like a great daily now I never liked them before because of they’re ride height but now it does look like a proper forester
Really enjoyed this episode, I've driven fairly tuned subarus too... and got sick of the noises and general pain to live with... After this is perfect, let me know if this goes up for sale 😉
@@racedynamix Hi is possible still get remote tune . wont be having a wideband installed till some time late Dec or so .. my rom is aZ1G104K only mods is 3 inch turbo back exhaust with 1 high flow cat 1 resonator with chamber mufflers on the rear .. ( XForce kit .. ).. GFB BOV and K N panel filter;; stock box with silencer removed .. Petrol here is 98 and 100 octane
I did the head unit steering wheel control on my dad's 10 jdm xt. But i can't remember the wiring 😅 but i remembered i bought the harness with the steering wheel control wires ( there're 2 types, with and without. Well, in the US.) And one of the wires needs to be grounded and also connected to the head unit steering wheel control wire. Wish i could check it, but im nowhere close to the car😅
Love this. I’ve daily driven one of these down in NZ for the last 4 years, with two young ones we needed a family car that I could have a bit of fun in. How do I go about joining the academy and accessing an e-tune? I do all the work on the Forester myself, would be keen to start modding and get you to supply me with ecu maps as I go
@@jamesprescott9869 Yeah I love mine 😍.Under any of my videos there is a Join button .. there are various levels.. academy Member gives access to extra tuning videos but there is option for remote tune aswell 👍
@@jamesprescott9869 its a interesting one .. also from NZ .. with TF to produce the stock HP is good and then there is a tune which is ever better thats close to around 190kw ? thats crazy good for a TF .. then again its manual too ..for this small snail .. advantages of TF faster boost response think myself could be enough for now .. keep the VF52 for another day
Personally I'm not in a hurry to change the turbo.. it does everything I need it to at the moment. I will investigate what it is soon but it seems crazy high for a tf turbo so my gut feel says td04 👍
Thank you very much thats great starting point on stock .. I have also JDM SH5 XT 2008 5mt ... way overdue for a tune ..which havent done .. sadly. .. mods is only 3inch from turbro back an K N filter been running like this for the last 8 months .. was the tune on Sports # mode ? is the turbo TF035 ?
The tune is across all the maps, the I,s,s# just dictates the throttle sensitivity and requested torque. This is turn dictates the boost targets. That way fueling and ignition is done for all modes and boost in I mode is left as eco as possible. Sport and sports sharp boost and power are the same, just a throttle sensitivity changed. I am still to have the covers off the turbo to discover which it is. It would be quite high power for a tf035 to get to even with a full decaf system so I am leaning to it being a td04... I will see soon I guess 😎
@@racedynamix thanks also have no idea but some peeps saying TF then others TD ... the factory 2 port boost solenoid is good .. was gonna 3 port for the tune but might not now ?
I might be getting a 03 wrx sti type uk soon. It is standard other than having the ppp pack installed at 305bhp. If I get a remap what figures could I push with the ppp installed
I have no idea why this seems to be so economical tbh, normally the 2.5 is slightly better economy in my experience but this wasn't a fluke. Had over 400 miles out of many tankfuls which is fab for a daily driver 😎
I have a sf5 turbo ej205 that boosts 0.8 bar on stock engine and turbo, never got any dyno papers so i dont know how much hp its at, do you have an estimate?😂 standard 0.5 bar 177hp,
Unfortunately more boost doesn't always mean more power if the other elements of the tune aren't right. If Afr and ignition timing are right then probably up around 200 though

Yeah they are massively high as std. This sits right now 😎
I think i will lower mine too its way to high that looks great

Hi. Normally a custom map on a std ppp car will see around 320-340 bhp. I'd do a before run too to show the comparison 👍
A question... I have an 05 UK sti Impreza with the prodrive performance pack... If I was to put an induction kit on it. Would I need a remap?
Hi. Yes it would. The induction kit changes how the air is measured and enters the engine... and as such will probably make it run leaner.m
@@racedynamix I thought so, but just wanted to clarify... Does that also apply to a better panel filter .... Cheers ..Rich
Darn, 400miles on the ej20? my ej255 Canadian gets 450km on 1 tank (280miles)

@pastorsprut800 👌
Now with 2.5" exhaust and a high flow cat, you'll free some 15-20bhp... And still be quite enough.
