I find it puzzling how you and I can differ in our opinions when reviewing pomades. I don't have companies throwing product at me, I purchase my own mostly based on other people's reviews.
I can not stand the berry scent of the JS Sloan, it's a more sticky pomade that goes on drier but not near as dry as "Iron Society" but I find once I get the slick back going the product is very cooperative. I keep my hair shorter on the sides and that can create problems with it sticking up but not with JS Sloan. I find JS Sloan to be very suitable for my hair, it's hold lasts all day, the sheen could be greater but it's fine. I imagine the negatives you're experiencing is due to the length of your hair but I'm only speculating. I find the product to hitting 3 out of the 4 for a great pomade. Can't stand the scent and that lone makes me hesitate buying it again.
