- After many outtakes, edits and fuck ups, I gave up and made this video in one go. I'm tired as hell, face has been eaten up by bugs from the yardwork yesterday, I have a gnarly headache, and I could use some coffee! So suck it! Clearly, I gave up at the end. I don't care. The video gives you the basic how-to. There's not much to it folks! Just gotta know how to slick your hair, make a sharp part, and experiment with the pomp! A lot of trial and error, and you'll be lookin' slick in no time!

A master pomp stylist. I'm allmost as good as you bro. Not quite there yet. Watched this video a while back when I first wanted to be a greaser. This is the video that I remembered. @ThePitkings It depends on you. I prefer to apply it to slightly damp hair, some apply it in the shower. That method never worked for me, but it might for you.
@jstinnett75 Thanks for the kind words.
Use the heel of your palm, to sort of push the pomp forward, so it doesn't get dragged back with the rest of the hair. It also helps round out the back of the pomp, so it has more of a fluid look and feel to it.

I have extremely curly hair and my trick is to blow dry the hair when I get out of the shower. If it still isn't enough, I'll sometimes bust out the straightener. Then I would apply the pomade.

If it's a good product, it's good and I'll say it's good. Same goes for if it sucks. And if/when I run out of a product, that I got as a sample, that I like, I'll definitely purchase it again.
@dannee543 Yup, nothing wrong with it. Unless you don't wash it out every so often, I say about a week to two weeks, depending on the sensitivity of your scalp. Otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem.

The top is about eyebrow to nose length. The sides and back are about an inch to an inch and a half.

@XalessandroX323 Thanks man. The hold for Mr. Ducktail's pomade is a little stronger than Black & White Pomade, if you've tried it. I have thick and wavy hair as well, and this stuff works pretty well for me!

what size clip do you get your sides cut? mine are a bit long so the duck tail comes out looking like a dam mess
dawn dish soap works great. but u want to use a conditioner after it.

Hey man I'm thinking about getting a pomp and I'm growing out my hair atm. Should I do a trim before I try to get a pomp or should I just do it when my hair is the right length?
And I like taking showers every morning, can I still do that? I've read that people keep grease in for a while when having this hair style.
Also: I have this hair wax, can I use that instead of pomade?

What I do is I just pomade the very front. Because my hair isnt really long enough to get a decent size pomp yet. So I just use let the front stay up.
How is your hair have to be for a pompadour hairstyle and will you have to have a particular haircut for a pomp style??.
I like the way your hair stays man,the hairs bind closely together,my pomp always splits,maybe i just need a haircut?

ur hair looks great bro. have you ever dont another persons pomp for them? you shouild make a video doing anothers hair so we can get the fine details more clearly. Im going bald in front and i find that pomades with fiber seems to make my pomp thicker. I use robs chop shop grease. 50 wt. will hold your hair in a hurricane super stuff.anyways man, thanks for the video, i enjoyed your work of perfection. dan

Right now I use this grayish hair clay to style my hair and it's working alright right now, but all I do is spread it everywhere and comb the front upward.
What I'm looking for is the least shiny pomade for my black hair, sticks the most so I won't have to mess with it, and not too expensive.
I'm wondering what you think is best?
Ay Jan, How do you get your hair to angle outward like that? I try, but it always angles toward the back of my head. Is it just a matter of how your hair is, or do I need more grease in my hair?

u maybe have wavy hair but its not thick(from what i see from the video) but man when u have thick hair, it makes everything twice as hard. and your hair looks really smooth. my hair splits and lifts like crazy everywere and its not curly or frizzy but hair to do.....
How short do you keep it on the sides and how long do you keep it on the top? I went to get my hair cut and I was trying to get my hair cut like Eddie Cochran and they cut it wrong.
I have really thick thick dark hair and I have tired pomping my hair with layright Murray's and voodoo goo and I haven't found a pomade that works for my type of hair yet any tips on what to buy ???

I had a quick question. Whenever I try to put my hand on the top of my head, and comb, stray hairs pop out, and usually my hair starts to part in the middle, oddly enough. Am I not putting enough pomade in, or is my hair on top just too short?
@hole1991 I think at the time of this vid, the back of my hair was at about an inch or so. I don't know the exact dimensions, I just let my barber do his thing.
I will say, the longer, the easier it is to ducktail. I'm not saying you can't do it with shorter hair, but it's much easier with longer hair, and looks better too.
@gamer13PRO It also depends on what pomade you use also... Layrite is good because it washes out... I've never used Mr. Ducktail... but I get my hair cut by at Hawleywoods (Donnie Hawley owns Hawleywoods Barbershop and Layrite pomade). Try a bunch out, a heads up... don't use Murray's unless you need too, because your hair might just fall out lol.
what i dont have pomade cause i usually have a mohawk but i like pomps too so i use gorilla snot so would this work with gorilla snot
