@@LetsLiveinThailand I am subscribed. In this video, there is one omission that interests me. Can you by any chance direct me to online groups that help tourists and expats convert their crypto to Thai baht?
Man, i love cash, i have never used QR code or payed using my phone, i do use net banking with my PC at times. i guess i will have to find cash only shops, or use cards. A phone is a evil necessity for me.
Cas still works everywhere, but many folks just find it easier to use their phones. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to subscribe - it helps expose the videos to new viewers.
Actually all banks will take traveller checks and you get a slightly higher rate. If you are from the US the exchange rate it is just a little better than the fate for $100. It is only the exchange booths where you have a problem with traveller checks
Thanks for watching and commenting! Although every brand of bank might accept travelers cheques ( not sure “every” is quite right), not every branch will. Especially in rural areas, travelers cheques can draw blank stares at the bank, and few rural exchange booths will change at any regular rate. Please don’t forget to subscribe, since more subscribers means more youtube suggestions.
Having just spent time in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia while traveling around these past two years, I confidently assert that, for quality of life, none of them compare. I have several acquaintances who moved to other SEA countries - they all returned to Thailand. Perhaps you can give some specific examples of far more for less. Medical care? Paperwork? Availability of imported goods? Social tolerance and acceptance? Financial services? Ease of travel? Rule of law?
@@LetsLiveinThailand I first went to Thailand 38 years ago, it was something then, I moved to Pattaya in the 90s it didn't even have paved streets, just one, the rest were dirt roads all the way to Jomtien..I speak fairly good Thai and in fact my older Brother still lives there. You've obviously caught the Thai bug, nothing can be wrong with it. Well new tax laws, reporting to immigration 4 times a year, prices rising with many, especially on pensions, looking elsewhere now. Both Vietnam and Cambodia don't give you the immigration hassle Thailand now does. You must have conveniently missed all that somewhere along the way. I agree it's still a nice place and I visit regularly but it's not the best place anymore by a long shot and many now agree with that.
Yes, one could live just fine on $1400 a month there for it's not expensive like the US, but to qualify for retirement visa, better have at least $1800 a month with about $20,000 or more to deposit into a Thai bank account. They wanna make sure you're not a bum surviving off eating from the cheapest pad Thai off a motorbike. People used to be able to get tourist visas as much as they wanted, but not the case. I guess one can go to Cambodia on business visa easily, but I don't like how China CCP is their new master despite the US dollar still being the currency. Same for Laos and Myanmar.
I would agree that Thailand’s the best choice in SEA. Be sure to subscribe and watch the video on Visas. Many folks overlook how easy it is to get a B visa to avoid monetary constraints. The only downside is having to leave every 90 days, which isn’t really THAT much of a burden I did it for 17 years.
@@LetsLiveinThailand Oh, you can get 3 months business visa at a time as a freelancer just by applying as such? And then you exit to Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, or a Air Asia flight doing a small trip to reset to a new 90 day B visa by applying for them ahead of time?
You can even do a one year B! Then, no need to renew every entry, just come and go as you please, as long as you don’t stay longer than 90 days at a time.
Of course, as I mention in the video, it depends on your lifestyle. Is that a lump sum or annual income? Even as a lump sum it could be a comfortable life for … 10 years?
Like I said in the video, it all depends on your lifestyle. Is that ฿8 million annual income? Or is it a lump sum? Even with a lump sum, ฿8 million should comfortably get you through 10 years!
Depending on your lifestyle 40k is quite doable for a single person… It will rely on your housing expectations, location, and medical expenses. You won’t be living at the grand palace, but not in a tent next to the railroad tracks, either!
There must be about one billion ageing Farang living in Thailand now and all YouTubing and think they're telling us something we haven't heard a billion times before
You have an interesting point of view, and perhaps a lot of experience. However, some viewers seem to find the content interesting and informative. The videos are for them.
Absolutely so. We can take it a step further. Many years ago all of us acted as follows: I want to go to Thailand. I book a flight. I book a hotel. I go. I arrive. I go through customs. I take a taxi or bus to the hotel. I rent a car. I take a map and start to explore places and restaurants. I have no problem whatsoever. I enjoy. I learn. I fly back home. I share my trip with my best friend. I remember the trip for many years and sometimes look at the few fotos I took. And you know what? We all had a good time and survived. Today, all need to watch hundreds of videos before even going there. Just for all to end up at the same beach. Are some videos helpful? Yes. Required or necessary? No 😅
Hi Yai, I really appreciate your videos, as I'm planning on moving to the Land of Smiles and will be setting off for an extended visit before your series ends. I guess, just like 'Mark' on this episode, I will have to wait. I was wondering if you could clarify something for me (see 8' 35"). Do merchants really accept Apple Pay from foreign visitors? And if so, is there anything that helps identify these merchants? I ask because Apple does not list Thailand as a country that supports Apple Pay. Maybe it's just the locals who can't add cards, so they can't use it, and perhaps visitors with cards already on Apple Pay can make contactless payments. I have my Wise card added to Apple Pay and I tried it in Bangkok earlier this year. The payment (only 155THB) was declined. I never discovered the reasons. Maybe it is simply a case of: your mileage may vary. If you have an Apple Pay facility, what has been your experience of using it in Thailand?
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Yes, I use Apple Pay in Thailand. As a matter of fact, I just used it for an online order from Tops Supermarket. In general, the bigger retailers, especially those associated with Central Group, have no problem. Elsewhere, your mileage may vary. Also, the problem with your charge may have been the small amount - some retailers set up minimums on their credit card facility for foreign card transactions. Often employees (and therefore customers) are unaware. Don’t forget to subscribe!
Like I say in the video, you can spend as much as you want, no limit in Thailand. I know a couple of restaurants you can go near Pattaya and you can spend 32000 if you go twice a month! 555

@@LetsLiveinThailand I imagine so. I'm seeing the cost of living is not much more than the last time I was there 10 years ago. I do expect lots more inflation in America after the election and then more in places like Thailand for Americans and British are coming, if not there already. I really do mean that for the new American dream is to leave America.
Even if you use an agent, it’s important to be aware of the options and procedures. Visa agents are neither regulated nor licensed - anyone can put out a shingle and take your money. Unscrupulous agents are unlikely to choose the best option for YOU, but rather what’s easiest and most profitable for them. Always better to know than not to know and just dump your future in the hands of an unlicensed stranger. That said, I have many friends (especially those with more cash) who hire an agent to take care of everything. None of these friends are ignorant of the options, procedures or costs, though!
