I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with. I have 2 X-T4s and recently started shooting video for my TH-cam with them. My first issue is when in Movie mode my shutter buttons does NOT start recording. 2. Today I tried to new my new Andycine monitor with my X-T4 and for some reason when the monitor was only hooked up using HDMI cable I could not use the Fujifilm XApp to control the camera as it kept telling me something else was using it's WiFi network when nothing else was. I am assuming I have a setting wrong somewhere and hope you can help me. I have been enjoying your videos for some time now.
Are there significant differences between 4K standby and recording HDMI outputs? Sometimes I use my X-T30 as overhead camera for live streaming (online education). I set the standby quality to 4K and that's it. I did some tests and wasn't able to find any difference between 4K standby output and 4K recording output. Did I miss something? Even the time before temperature warning and shutting down were the same. In case you're interested: Used this way my X-T30 warns me about the temperature after 30 minutes and shuts down after 45 minutes. With a fan (5V USB) added to the camera it didn't even overheat after 8 hours nonstop recording.
@@jlsacman7224 Without an external fan my X-T200 showed a warning after 15 minutes and shut down after ca. 40 minutes. With an external fan (again a 120mm modded to 5V USB) it shows a warning after 2 hours, but lasts at least 6 hours without shutting down. In general though the X-T200 seems to get hotter than the X-T30 (or has lower temperature limits).
One huge bit with HDMI that wasn't mentioned was live streaming/webcam functionality. Running 4K HDMI to a capture card like the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K (screw Elgato, but I have an entire rant and several reasons for that) looks significantly better than any other webcam on the market. I've run my X-T3 for 12 hours straight before (accidently...) without any issues. Not to mention if you don't have an external recorder, running a capture card into OBS and recording (including straight to ProRes with the StreamFX plugin if you want) is a great substitute if you need unlimited recording time. Not as modular obviously, but if you're doing a studio recording of sorts, you can't go wrong.
@@paulgochoa Not without a capture card. The limitations with HDMI ports on laptops and desktops is that they're output only for displays, and they don't have a built-in way to convert the HDMI signal to something usable for the computer. Capture Cards convert the HDMI/SDI signal to USB or similar digital format that the computer can read, essentially as a webcam or capture device source.
Any way to get live HDMI output from the HS50 EXR? I really love the camera but would love it more if I could get the live HDMI output. Works for reviewing but not in shoot mode or while filming.
HDMI Output INfo Display is set to "Off" but running my xt3 with ElgatoCamLink4k into OBS I am still seeing the UI and its driving me crazy. Is there something I'm missing????
hi ! my client wants me to connect my FUJI XT-3 to their macbook, and use the macbook as a monitor for a videoshoot. Is this possible by buying a simple micro-HDMI to HDMI cable ? Is it possible to use a macbook as a monitor for fujifilm xt-3 camera ? What do I need ?
Great video! Sadly, my X-T2 ignores the Clean-HDMI output setting, if it is connected to USB too! I.e., if it runs from battery, clean HDMI is possible. If it is charged via USB, clean HDMI does NOT work. Can someone please confirm or have a workaround?
is it possible to connect directly from camera to a monitor (computer screen or a laptop with hdmi input) for live view using solely a micro Hdmi2Hdmi cable? Without external monitor/recorder in between.
Hi! Is there somewehere a place to find if a camera has Hdmi out or not ? My question is about the Fuji X-m1. I'm pretty sure you know the answer by the way.. Thanks
Hello! For still photography, would you know how to get an uncropped HDMI output when connected to an external monitor? When I set the mode to anything other than movie mode, it goes back to 1080p with 2 black panels on the sides. How do I fix this?
Hi, I know this is an old video, but I’m hoping you see this message, I’ve just bought a monitor for my Fuji xh2s and can’t get it to view on the monitor, just wanted to see if you might be available to suggest something before I send the monitor back, thanks
8:20 the future is likely USB-C everything. So, I would expect camera to have simply one or more USB-C ports on cameras. Hopefully two is the minimum because as we have seen from laptops, you then need to buy all these adapters to get more ports out of the one.
Hi, I own a Fujifilm X-T4 camera and will be using it to film an interview. My clients are overseas and would like to get a live feed from my camera. I was wondering, is it possible for me to use the X-T4 as a webcam WHILE recording to my sd card inside the camera? Is there another workaround for this if not possible?
Hello Chris, I am trying to establish if there is an issue with the way my xt-4 communicates with my Atomos Ninja. Can you tell me if I should be able to see the various info like fstop, shutter speed etc which I can see on my xt4 monitor displayed on my Ninja? As it stands that information doesn't appear and so I have to open up my screen and make adjustments on my xt-4 when I want to change fstop etc. Also, do you know if there is a way to eliminate all the icons on the Atomos Ninja so that you can see that info (if I can get it to work) so that the icons on the Ninja are not blocking the info from the camera? Kind of like what I see at the 1'26" second of your video here. Thanks in advance, I know you are crazy busy.
I am considering an external SSD storage, will a high speed Samsung T5 work with the x-t3 or xs10 camera, any specific micro HDMI to USB C cable type I will need to get 10 bit out of the xs10? Thank you
Pal2Tech, your videos are the best because you are extremely entertaining, knowledgable, and easy to understand. My question to you is: How come I cannot record 4K signals with my X-H2, x-H2s, and X-S10 thru HMDI? There is no longer an option in the menu system anymore to direct 4K signals to HDMI. Am I missing something? That menu no longer includes HDMI to 4K with fuji cameras. Am I missing something?

Hi Can somebody help me on a question.. I am a first time fuji user and on xt3 wd 23mm f2 lens when i zoom and try to capture it just takes zoom out shot. am i doing any set up wrong. any help is appreciated. How can i zoom to take pictures
How can I record directly to my PC with an Elgato 4k CamLink? I am receiving the video as a camera input I guess, but there are also analog artifacts like moving waves.
These horizontal lines are also apparent on the camera lcd screen. I am guessing the HDMI output is showing me the camera screen. Any idea how can I record 4k60 to my PC simultaneously? Thanks.
Ok after a quick research I think the problem is "rolling shutter distortion". But Why do I only experience it on camera LCD and HDMI Output and not SD Card recording?
Ok another update :D Reducing the shutter speed fixed the flicker effect but now the shutter speed (30) is way to low for my desired video fps (24fps). Commencing further research...
Hi :) I got serious question but it is little off topic. I bought DJI RSC 2 gimbal. I balanced my XT-4 and when I plug usb to usb c cable to camera and gimbal (I plugged it to very right port on gimbal) camera is going crazy from normal screen to screen when I see USB icon and black screen. It is switching those 2 screens every 2 seconds non stop. Do you know why or what to do? I cannot find it on internet so I hope maybe you have some experience to help me. Thanks :)
If I am recording externally-only (computer or recorder) and have the standby set to 4K, is there any difference to what the camera is putting out over HDMI “at rest” versus when I hit “record”?
My brain is overloaded with all these options. All I want to know is HOW DO I MONITOR F-LOG FOOTAGE from my XT2? When I connect an external monitor to my xt2...screen goes black when camera is set to F-Log. Is this a problem with all budget monitors? Or is this problem exclusive to Fuji? Is the Ninja my only option? Is there a budget monitor out there that will work with Fuji F-Log?
Hi pal2tech, I was really hoping this video would address the issues I'm having, but sadly they don't. When I enable "HDMI OUTPUT INFO DISPLAY" the resolution sent to my HDMI monitor is lower than when I disable it. Have you encountered this problem? I would love to have the info display to view my AF and shutter settings, but I really can't tell if my focus is right when the resolution is the same as my Fuji flippy screen.
can you tell the x-t3 to send high resolution (4k) over HDMI while in photo mode? i only get 4k while in movie mode. photo mode has lousy image quality/resolution over hdmi
If I use a HDMI to USB converter like the ELGATO CAMLINK 4K, would I be able to record 4K into the Mac through Quicktime? Also would the shutter button trigger the recording? Asking without trying it. However, will try and update too. Thank you
You could do that through OBS, which would be a better option in all honestly. Significantly more recording options with FFmpeg extensions. Including recording straight to ProRes if you download the StreamFX plugin.
great info / vid Chris!! The Fuji manual for HDMI cable it says not to use a cable longer than 4.9 feet / 1.5 m. I would like to keep the length down to 18” 24” if possible. My Question is where is a good place to get a smaller hdmi cable with standard A to micro D - your link gives a 3’ minimum with that choice of cable - if using the monitor on top of your camera or right off the side attached to a tripod 3 ft is kinda a lot of extra unneeded cable. I agree as well as to the micro D port, NO bueno fujifilm!! thanks for any additional input as to options At the moment i would be just using the monitor to shoot stills - macro, landscapes, and then hopefully move more into some wildlife video. Would the settings be the same for the monitor in the menu setup for stills as it would for movie use? Thanks again for any help 🙏🏼
Thanks for all that. I got another issue tho… i have hdmi output info off and it works, but when I turn on the gimbal which is connected to the camera as well, I see everything of the camera on the monitor and the log also disappears… and also an issue is, when record with the monitor, the camera thinks it does not record and drops frames of the display but I have turned on the hdmi recording control…
Awesome 👏 as always. Can I just have a desktop monitor just for reference while I am recording myself? I am gonna start doing videos but I will be SOLO recording myself, so I need to see if I will be in focus. If yes I guess I will need to buy a micro hdmi cable right.
I was struggling to understand why the hdmi info was still showing but watching this gave me a giant facepalm moment because I forgot the camera has to actually be in “video” mode and not picture mode. 🤦♂️ I can always count on pal2tech to save me in my fuji confusion.
Looks like the designers of HDMI micro are here to down vote this video. I caged my X-T3 and use the Smallrig A to D bolt on adapter for switching between studio and field monitors without having to touch the native port. Still afraid I will bump it one day.
Fantastic Video, as always. Prof. Fuji, you simplified this so well that I'm tempted to get one and try recording 10bit footage. Never had the conviction to level up to 265HEVC 10bit etc.
I set up my system almost exactly like you are doing and it works great. The only problem I'm having is that when I hit the shutter release to stop recording on the Ninja V it drops a frame. Have you ever experienced that? Love your channel!
Great video! I’m an actor and I’m looking for a display screen for indoor self tape auditions. I also want to us my external directional mic. It sits on top of the camera, but it looks like the display monitor goes where the directional mic is currently sitting. Is there a setup where i can have both or do I need to get a separate Mic stand? Thanks in Advance :-)
Hi Chris! My name is Lee and I just want to start by thanking you very much for all of the videos you have made for us Fuji Phanatics!! Anyway, I have an issue and I'm sure where to post this, so I will try here! I have an XT4 camera body and I am wanting to make some video recordings using a Camlink 4K with my PC ... and using Fujifilm's 4K Capture Utility software! The computer far surpasses the requirements for using the Camlink 4K capture device. I am able to use the program and capture device to make a video recording except for one problem ... I cannot get the audio to playback! During recording, the virtual VU meters are showing audio activity in the bottom right side of the program, but absolutely no playback of this audio with the recording. I have been trying everything Chris and am at a total loss. I was just wanting to ask if you can suggest anything. I contacted Elgato about this, but not getting much help at all! I am able to record videos on OBS and even get the audio to playback as well, but not with the 4k Capture Utility! Thanks for reading this and look forward to more of your videos in the future!
Love what I'veve just learned here! I wish I could afford the Atmos Ninja for it seems to have more options to shoot continuously at one go. Thanks, Chris!
I'll assume playback in 4k to a monitor won't heat up the battery or camera like filming in 4k. I see Da Crafs'man uses Fuji battery adapters that plug into the wall. Gotta find those.
As a subscriber, I love your videos. Please do a detailed video on external recording. Mainly because of the 30 minus restriction, and also because of camera heating at 4K 60 ... Is the Atomos Ninja V really worth it, or should one jut get the H X 2s instead ???

Hi pal2tech, I was really hoping this video would address the issues I'm having, but sadly they don't.
When I enable "HDMI OUTPUT INFO DISPLAY" the resolution sent to my HDMI monitor is lower than when I disable it.
Have you encountered this problem? I would love to have the info display to view my AF and shutter settings, but I really can't tell if my focus is right when the resolution is the same as my Fuji flippy screen.
1:14 Biotron!!! Sorry to go off topic--just had a fun flashback to my childhood.
Hello, did you ever had overheating problems with the Ninja V and Fujifilm X-T4? Great video!
I already have a Feelworld external monitor. What do you recommend for a recorder? Perhaps an idea for a future video.
can you tell the x-t3 to send high resolution (4k) over HDMI while in photo mode? i only get 4k while in movie mode. photo mode has lousy image quality/resolution over hdmi
can i use my phone as external monitor?
I love watching your videos..you made learning so much entertaining!
hi i want to do the same thing with an iPad/tablet android..is it possibile (not fuji app, too buggy)
Can you use a TV as a live shooting monitor for video? Xh2s here.
Including recording straight to ProRes if you download the StreamFX plugin.
can you do HDMI out and at the same time tether to a computer?
Hello. How long should be hdmi cable normaly?
HI Chris... Good Job.. You didn't mention if there is an option to record the fuji colors like Eterna out of the HDMI, can you comment?
great info / vid Chris!! I agree as well as to the micro D port, NO bueno fujifilm!!
thanks for any additional input as to options
At the moment i would be just using the monitor to shoot stills - macro, landscapes, and then hopefully move more into some wildlife video. Would the settings be the same for the monitor in the menu setup for stills as it would for movie use? Thanks again for any help 🙏🏼
I completely agree about micro-hdmi - it needs to go away. Thanks for all these helpful tips and explanations about HDMI on Fuji cameras!
If yes I guess I will need to buy a micro hdmi cable right.
whats the price to fix xt3 hdmi connection?
Does Xt2 have clean HDMI? thanks
Great video! Earned my sub with your humour and knowledge!!
Amazing!! I really appreciate this!
I set up my system almost exactly like you are doing and it works great. The only problem I'm having is that when I hit the shutter release to stop recording on the Ninja V it drops a frame. Have you ever experienced that? Love your channel!
Great video as always! Can you also do some lighting review for photography and video?
Amazing information. Thanks for sharing!
How to Connect XT20?
Hi. Does this work with XT-1?
Such an informative channel. Thanks
does it work on fuji xpro1?
I keep hearing people make mention about frying their hdmi port on their cameras. How is that avoided?
Great video as always. You are right! Ditch the micro! Best use of HDMI? Livestream and Zoom events.
Can I record video to the sd card on fujifilm xt4 WHILE streaming? Do I need extra gear to connect the hdmi to the mac?
You are the best man !
What camera model in video?
Thank you very very much…. Always want to know what is HDMI for!!!
For those who have problem with HDMI control triggering the Atomus ninja V, set "trigger HDMI" on Atomus
I'll assume playback in 4k to a monitor won't heat up the battery or camera like filming in 4k. I see Da Crafs'man uses Fuji battery adapters that plug into the wall. Gotta find those.
It would be so great if we could see and control camera settings via external recorder and also have clean feed for recordings
Agree!
Love your enthusiasm.
Excellent content, thank you. Please dial down the enthusiasm a notch, or ten.
As a subscriber, I love your videos. Please do a detailed video on external recording. Mainly because of the 30 minus restriction, and also because of camera heating at 4K 60 ... Is the Atomos Ninja V really worth it, or should one jut get the H X 2s instead ???
This is one of those 'aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh' moments as I finally understand what 'clean HDMI' actually means! Du-oh! Thanks! 👍😁
Thank you Chris. I always find something interesting and informative for myself. You have a very lively presentation of the material.
