It's been a while. I am returning to what I enjoy doing the most: Education videos with fun topics to get you off and running with all things Fuji, photography, and filmmaking! 👍 Expect more of these, like I used to do when I first started the channel.
I'm so glad to hear that, Chris! You're a born educator and I love these videos. I've learned so much from you. I'm always going "huh - I didn't know that!"
I think one of the perks of having a fujifilm camera is that it has a channel like this that contains all the demos one might need to get started and understand the camera.
I've been using X-tn since the beginning, even doing a little pro work with it. I'm embarrassed to say that you are still uncovering the mysteries of this system. You are one of the best at doing these explainer videos. I'm teaching someone else (who is using my old X-T1 cameras) and will have them watch a few of these. THANKS!
Great video, Chris. Even for long time Fujifilm users, it's great to have all the details fully explained. There were a couple of the finer points I had never fully understood.
Chris, I have been a Fuji user for over 5 years. Your videos consistently and reliably supplement my understanding of these cameras in a systematic and fun way. No sooner do I “think” I have them figured out - you come along with valuable new information. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you ! Best Allan Roza
Your videos are so helpful in understanding how the camera works (and yes, entertaining). As a retired high school teacher and school administrator, I recognize a well thought out lesson. You would be recognized as a Master Teacher in my school. Well done!
Hi Chris. Hope you and your family are doing better after your recent family loss. Very comprehensive and easily understood video. I am adding the digit read out on the bottom of the EVF screen. Never really understood that setting until just now!! And welcome Scott to the Gear Iguana crew!
I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. But seriously, thank you so much for your kind donation!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again and all the best to you!!!
As always, very informative and entertaining. Your channel is top notch for Fuji-X information. My beef with the exposure compensation dial on the XT-5 is that there is no lock button like on the shutter speed and ISO dials. There have been several times when I've bumped the exposure compensation dial and shot for a while without realizing it. This usually happens when I'm outside in bright sunlight and can't see the indicators in the viewfinder or screen very well. My workaround is to leave it on C, since that takes considerably more "oomph" to move than leaving it on 0 (zero). P.S. As a lifelong dog owner (or owned by dog?) I know the sheer grief of losing a beloved canine, I feel for you and your family. My counsel: get another dog, quick!
Thanks chris! i was stumped when my exposure compensation dials weren’t working the way I imagined that they would. Makes a whole lot more sense now that you’ve explained it . Thanks again and keep up the great videos!!
Top tip for using the exposure compensation dial... Don't forget to zero it before your next shot! I don't know how many times I've done that then realised my exposure was off for the next few shots...
Is there a way the camera resets Exposure Compensation automatically after each shot? This question may be relevant only for those who use the front dial to adjust exposure compensation
Thanks, Chris. Having gone to aperture-priority mode recently, it was annoying to take my eye off a subject to twiddle with the exp.comp dial. This shortcut to quicker front compensation will make picture-taking more intuitive. Bless you, buddy!
great video and all very logical. I'm thinking (heavily) about the X-T5, would be my first Fujifilm (I shoot the S brand currently). Waiting for the new 16-50 lens to be released and if it's sold as a kit with the X-T5, that's when I'll bite. very good points you raise and helpful to know about how Fuji handles the dials. Thanks for all you do.
I’ve been using it for years. But your comment about setting aperture and shutter speed manually, and iso to A, was really helpful…and probably a little better that Auto-iso, where you are more unsure about what you end up with. With our new noise reduction tools, Iso is no longer my primary concern. Shutter speed and aperture now are most important. Thank you!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I just received my xt5 and I found your setup video so helpful. I am a full-frame Canon shooter by trade. Fuji is all new to me, but I am super excited and just this video alone on the exposure dial and setting it to the front dial is more like a canon feel to me! Thank you for this. I know photography, but it's all new learning a new camera.
Hi Chris. Thank you for all the hard work that you do with respect to your efforts in making & sharing your videos. I was aware of the exposure compensation dial setting & being able to expand the setting from 3 to 5 stops when placing this dial in the “C” position. I used this on my XT-3 for many years. The tip for being able to also set up the exposure compensation setting across the bottom of the EVF was greatly appreciated. My ageing eyes thank you profusely.😊
Chris, this video has been very well explained, helpfull and important as usual. Thank you so much for your effort and sincere congratulations!!! Best regards from Bogota, Colombia, South America.
Hey Richard, I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. But seriously, thank you so much for your kind donation!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again and all the best to you!!!
Excellent, as always! I had the same exposure compensation problem you showed when I was setting up for a video earlier in the week; it wouldn’t go lower than about -1/3. Now I know why. Thanks!!
Awesome Video, however I'm not sure I agree with the Iso dial vs Exposure compensation dial part (when aperture and shutter speed are fixed). If the light changes in the paper towel scenario exposure compensation will adjust the Iso accordingly without having to change exposure compensation, if you manually set your iso you'll have to change it everytime the light changes.
.Thks you for great VDO Tutorial and entertaining. The tip work great as usual. Not even when I stuck with some issue but when I had free time I still watch. Yes, We will go together as I will not leaving Fuji and your channel
Nice explanation with some hidden features explained. Thanks and sorry for your loss of Piper. When you are looking for topics I would love to see another video on using flash with Fuji cameras, your first 2 were great.
This is where Nikon is outstanding. Back in the days of film, I had a Nikon F5 loaded with slide film. I pointed it at a bride's white dress and using TTL Auto flash took a photo with zero compensation. The results were perfect. I then took a black leather raincoat with black gloves laid on top and took another flash auto shot. Again, perfect results. I wish that my Fuji cameras could do that!
I am lazy in usual daylight, controlling my exposure only through Auto ISO and Exposure Compensation. (With the EC dial set to C, redirecting it through the front control dial for easer of use). I sit at Dynamic Range 400 to help the camera capture everything for editing later. It does indeed tend to create slightly dark pictures that are fine for editing safely later.
I am not sure if this feature already exists but there should be a way to reset the exposure compensation to 0 when the dial is set on ‘C’, like click on the front dial.
Have been using C for years as my XT2 has a fault with the exposure dial in normal operation. Find it easier anyway to keep in C and adjust with the wheel.
Two things. You can use the EC dial when you are taking Exposure bracketed images. You can shift the whole ranged bracket up or down as is your wont. Also, +1 for a button to lock the EC dial!
I've fairly recently purchased an XT2 and loving live! Advice on video's - should I set any of my dials to Auto for this or not? Thanks again for all the videos - truly amazing at how much knowledge you have.
Thanks Chris. Would you consider making a video on how to replicate on the X-T5 the settings for scene positions, such as portrait, sunset, snow, fireworks, flower, etc which you find with cameras having a PASM dial or full auto like the X-T30? It would make life so much easier. Keep up the great work
Sorry for asking unrelated question, I used to have object tracking on my XT5 and it is gone now! By object tracking I don't mean face or bird detection. Any moving object. Do you have its setting handy?
iso dial vs EV dial: no it's not the same, only if you shoot toys on a desk with constant light on, but I think most of us shoot moving subjects in changing conditions which then your camera can follow up with if you use EV
Thank you again! Such a great explanation of the EC dial. Is exposure compensation useful when spot metering? I often need to use SM to shoot backlit wildlife, but the backgrounds are often too light.
Can you please clarify the if I have dynamic range in auto, do I also need to be careful about the dial? I notice sometimes the camera will choose 200% in auto.
Love this channel as it has set me up perfectly with my XT5. Is there any way to show the ISO without having to depress the shutter halfway? It always shows the 12800 but I just want the ISO to be taken live without touching ant buttons
Great video! Your speaking style makes it very easy to listen, and your explanations are perfect. I haven't checked your site yet, but a Master Class or Boot Camp series on the X-T5 would be something I'd be interested in...keep up the good work!
at 0.50 seconds, you show a gray folding screen. Can you tell me exactly what it's called? I'm looking for something similar to eliminate reflections when photographing close-up objects. Now I'm using a simple piece of cardboard ;-)
It's been a while. I am returning to what I enjoy doing the most: Education videos with fun topics to get you off and running with all things Fuji, photography, and filmmaking! 👍

Thank you so much for these host of videos for Fujifilm cameras, increased my knowledge and confidence greatly while using mine.♥
I'm so glad to hear that, Chris! You're a born educator and I love these videos. I've learned so much from you. I'm always going "huh - I didn't know that!"
Love it! Even for regular Fuji users, we always learn something new, and you explain everything with kindness and very easy to understand. Thank you!
Thank you for all your work here. It is great, and I hope TH-cam are compensating you well 🙂
You are the best!
I think one of the perks of having a fujifilm camera is that it has a channel like this that contains all the demos one might need to get started and understand the camera.
Thanks Chris. Nice to see you back on Fuji education
Chris deserves so much more recognition than he’s already got. His channel is easily the best Fuji camera education on YT. Great content🎉
I've been using X-tn since the beginning, even doing a little pro work with it. I'm embarrassed to say that you are still uncovering the mysteries of this system. I'm sorry for your lost. And I'm thankful for all your videos 🙏
Ah, so that’s why I couldn’t adjust more in movie mode! That makes a lot of sense. Many thanks Chris!!
Welcome back, and have a great weekend!!
Hi Chris. Hope you and your family are doing better after your recent family loss. Very comprehensive and easily understood video. I am adding the digit read out on the bottom of the EVF screen. Never really understood that setting until just now!! And welcome Scott to the Gear Iguana crew!

When it comes to informative videos on Fuji products you are the man, Chris! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us 🙂
I've been searching for a good fujifilm channel and now I found one. Excellent video!! Subscribed!!
college grad, been shooting professionally for over 12 years, and i still always learn something from your videos, thankyou!
Yes, good to see you again, Chris, seems like it’s been a while. Great tips on the exp comp dial! Many thanks 👍 Neil in the uk

My counsel: get another dog, quick! +1
got my x-h2 today... and iam so thankfull for the best fuji channel out there.
youre doing such a great job...
That’s one thing I’ve been enjoying about my recent experiment in shooting in fully manual. Never have to worry about where I left the EV dial.
Good call, Jason. It's also possible to accidentally rotate it and not realise. It's a pity it doesn't have a lock button.
Is there a way the camera resets Exposure Compensation automatically after each shot? This question may be relevant only for those who use the front dial to adjust exposure compensation
Another fantastic educational resource. Your channel never disappoints.
Thanks, Chris. Having gone to aperture-priority mode recently, it was annoying to take my eye off a subject to twiddle with the exp.comp dial. This shortcut to quicker front compensation will make picture-taking more intuitive. Bless you, buddy!
I use the dial extensively for fast shooting - but did NOT know about the display setting - thanks once again!
great video and all very logical. This is an excellent explanation of these functions. I wasn’t aware of the extra range available while using the “C” mode.
Welcome back! And, thanks for explaining some things about the EC dial that I hadn't figured out by guess or by golly.
I’ve been using it for years. Thanks! Your videos have helped me so much!
Your videos ARE EXTREMELY USEFUL! Just when I think I know my XT-30, you surprise me with another tip. Thank you for all your hard work.
Excellent, as always! I had the same exposure compensation problem you showed when I was setting up for a video earlier in the week; it wouldn’t go lower than about -1/3. Now I know why. Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing..and explaining so clearly...so informative.
Awesome Video, however I'm not sure I agree with the Iso dial vs Exposure compensation dial part (when aperture and shutter speed are fixed). Thank You, I really appreciate your work, you and incredible teacher and content creator!! Very well explained
i can feel the passion from every of your video!
Thanks for the video, super nice to get back to an educational FujiFilm tutorial. I always learn something new.
Good to see you back Chris sorry about piper. looking forward to what is to come 👍👍
.Thks you for great VDO Tutorial and entertaining. The tip work great as usual.
Not even when I stuck with some issue but when I had free time I still watch.
Yes, We will go together as I will not leaving Fuji and your channel
You are the best of the best. Thank you for your vidéos. Hello from France, Chris !
Nice explanation with some hidden features explained. Thanks and sorry for your loss of Piper. When you are looking for topics I would love to see another video on using flash with Fuji cameras, your first 2 were great.
An amazing tutorial. Very educative. Thank you. 🙏🏽
The best videos out there. Thank you so much!
Sir you are the best.
How to have at hand (in my mind) all that knowledge and at the same time keep the sensibility to shoot beautiful pictures?
I have used +/- comp since it was available on the X-T2... I love it... thanks for clarifying and reminding me why I do, what I do 🙂
I’m new to Fuji, actually my camera doesn’t arrive till tomorrow. So I very much appreciate the info. Thank you.
Thanks and appreciated your support to us a fujifilm users ❤ to understand our camera settings
You are incredible. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for teaching me better than any book does.
Well done as usual! I’ve never been a big user of this feature but now have a much better understanding. Thank you.
This is where Nikon is outstanding. Back in the days of film, I had a Nikon F5 loaded with slide film. New subscriber here!! Amazing videos, so educational!! Love from Philippines!
I'd never seen that my X-T30 has that "c" on the exposure compensation dial! Thank you very much, it was very helpful!
I am not sure if this feature already exists but there should be a way to reset the exposure compensation to 0 when the dial is set on ‘C’, like click on the front dial.
Thanks a lot. This video clarified about exposure with xt-5. Big thanks to you.
Welcome back and thanks for another excellent video! 📷🙂
Photographed the moon with constant iso and aperture. Varying only exposure compensation or hdr, exposure compensation won, in my opinion.
Glad you’re back.
Just yesterday i saw your other video of this topic. Man you have been pretty much my Fujifilm manual 😂
Thanks so much. I learn new things from you all the time.
I was confused by the purpose of the exposure compensation dial when u have the aperture, ss, and iso... Now I know. 🙏😄
Today I learned some really good new tips; thanks Chris!
Love the older style of this video! And welcome to our new gear iguana member. Pull up a lawn chair we have fun here🎉
Very useful and amazing channel!
Thank you for all your videos, they are super beneficial for a beginner photographer such as myself
Have been using C for years as my XT2 has a fault with the exposure dial in normal operation. Find it easier anyway to keep in C and adjust with the wheel.
Great video. My X-H2S doesn’t quite work like this because it does not have a dedicated ISO dial.
Fantastic! Thanks - I love discovering more about my beloved X-T30ii
Thank you for all your informative videos.
Really glad to see you back doing what you love!
Funny and informative and a Fuji Lover too 🎉❤😍
Thanks Chris. As always, quite the exhaustive and useful video. Just awesome.

Excellent video! Thank you, Chris!
Could you make a video on buying 3rd party batteries for xt3 and which one should we buy as the Fujifilm one is too expensive!!
Hi 👋🏼
I didn’t know about Piper…. I am so sorry for you and your family, a will send you a lot of love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
❤❤
Thanks for this info now i understand things better
Fantastic info, thanx!!!
Sorry for asking unrelated question, I used to have object tracking on my XT5 and it is gone now! By object tracking I don't mean face or bird detection. Any moving object. Do you have its setting handy?
Top drawer explanation thank you 🇬🇧👍🙂
Largely ignore this dial because i mostly decide exposure with the other ones. I should give it a try every now and then.
iso dial vs EV dial: no it's not the same, only if you shoot toys on a desk with constant light on, but I think most of us shoot moving subjects in changing conditions which then your camera can follow up with if you use EV

nicely explained!! i am xs10 PASM user ..
Really helpful Chris, thanks
Love this channel as it has set me up perfectly with my XT5. Is there any way to show the ISO without having to depress the shutter halfway? It always shows the 12800 but I just want the ISO to be taken live without touching ant buttons
you always have good little tricks
Nice! Also on the x100v!
Very informative!

Helpful video, Chris. Thanks for covering this.
