Hey Dave, I bought the Hp Omen 15 AMD 4800H variant equipped with a full 1660 TI GPU + 16gb 3200mhz + 1080P 144hz panel - (Picked it up from Best Buy for $1459 after tax). I've been using it for about a month now and this thing has been blowing through everything I've thrown at it and the thermals have been absolutely excellent, dare I say the best I've seen in a laptop. As an undergrad studying physics and doing research, its been super awesome in crunching large sets of data as well. Note: I don't play games very often, however I tried playing Battlefield 1, the performance is super great there as well with CPU temps lingering around 80 deg. celsius and GPU temps around 68 deg. celsius at max settings. Beyond that, I simply don't game often enough to give more feedback... Regardless I'm quite positive it would handle most AAA titles with ease, yeah there are laptops with RTX graphics though the difference between a 1660 TI and an RTX 2060 or even an RTX 2070 Max-Q is relatively minimal,
@marokan k, I haven't used the Intel variant, though I'd recommend going with AMD- specifically the 4800H. It performs spectacularly in single/multiple core tasks and draws less power than an 8 core Intel chip, not to mention Intel's chips run rather hot (and Intel is more expensive)... Additionally, you're also getting faster memory which dependingon what you do could be a benefit. As far as the GPU goes, as I said the difference between Nvidia's 1660 Ti and RTX 2060 isn't significant enough to notice a huge difference, though unsure regarding the performance in GPU heavy tasks with engineering software (I'd imagine they're more CPU dependent, other than CAD?). Most of the work I do relies heavily on the CPU, which this thing cuts through like a hot knife on butter, hah.

I actually bought this laptop last month, and there’s some problems with it, first, when I bought it a couple weeks in the r and x key stopped working, and my older brother also got the same model and his r key stopped working. We returned it to Best Buy and bought a new one, and then the same thing happened. I recommend this laptop a lot but there could be potential manufacturer defects to the omen 15.
I don't think it has been commercially released yet. Try comparing this keyboard layout and the hinge design with that of those shown on Amazon. EDIT: Could anyone share a link to the page showing the 2020 model? Thanks!

It must be Dave's personal choice to use the intel variant to test thermal capabilities as it generates the most heat. Ryzen has been tested to see if it's on par with intel and it is for the most part. Ryzen just does it with lower tempratures. Dave's objective mainly must be to test the laptop, not the processors.

Man I bought the HP Omen 15 2019 with an Intel CPU and an RTX 2060 and the thermals are not so good. It's always thermal throttles to above 90°C on the CPU when playing games on performance mode. I changed the thermal paste to Noctua NT-H2 and although the thermals improved, it still sometimes reach slightly above 90°C. It's good to see HP Omens getting proper cooling this year, although I do miss the unique design of last year's Omen.
Chetan Chaudhari The variant that I have is actually very different and I wasn’t able to find my spec anywhere else in the market(other than HP official website). It has an i7-8750H 16 GB single channel GTX 1050Ti and a 15.6 inch 144 Hz panel. As far as experience goes it was very pleasing despite having a mid tear GPU but the main problem that I suffer from is HEAT, the temps are actually crazy sometimes it reaches up to 90C I’ve also hit T-junction multiple times which forced me to use an external fan and some good ol’ water soaked tissue on top. Last thing i dislike is the material its made out of, hard to clean, very very easy to get dirty
Facts no Hacks I mainly play AAA titles like battlefield, tomb raider, watch dogs 2, R6 Siege, ... . But if I’m being fully honest it’s not worth it, I play on all low 1080p and get an average of 50 - 70 fps in most games except for R6 I get around 100 (granted I have a 1050ti), and it gets insanely hot sometimes it even hurts if you press a key for too long, but if your looking for a good laptop you should look at the Acer helios 300 or some other good laptop or maybe even the laptop in this video.

3:48 I think the gap between the keyboard and the screen while closing the laptop was done on purpose to avoid smudging the screen. Hear me out, every laptop I've used so far eventually forms this weird smudge on the screen due to the screen resting on the keyboard while closed. This gap between the screen and the keyboard might have been designed to avoid that.
Good point on the screen touching the keyboard. I have a barely noticeable weird area on my older Sager laptop because of this. But I did pack that laptop all over the world.

Common problems on laptops are the keyboard marks on the screens, which seems to be permanent thats probably why the screen doesnt touch the keyboard when you close it at 4:20
It's promising to see this newer version. I bought a last gen version of this last xmas and it ran REALLY hot. That wasn't a problem in itself, but after 9 months it died. I can't fault HP customer service as they dealt with it quickly and gave me a full refund.
Dave the reason the screen has that weird gap is to let airflow into the laptop when it is closed. So if you are gaming on an external monitor it helps get more airflow in.
I'm glad you mentioned the weird flex at the back of the screen. I was thinking that the Omen was awesome in some other reviews until I spotted it, and no one else had mentioned the possible impact on reliability if you are carrying it in a backpack
this probs isn't relevant now but i bring this thing to college w me everyday. hp has since added some rubber wedges on the sides to prevent screen flex. The only thing ive noticed is that the screen picks up faint lines from the keyboard when carried in backpack. i dont know if all laptops have that issue, or if it's just a matte screen thing. Hasn't resulted in any lasting damage, i usually just wipe the screen and it goes away. otherwise its been perfectly fine.

I recently bought an omen desktop due to not being able to find components in stock to build my own. They make the only gaming computers at a semi reasonable price that don't look like spaceships with good specs
I just want to warn everyone here: this laptop has a keyboard ghosting issue. I got mine replaced twice to fix the issue, but it never got resolved. That's three laptops, all with the same issue - it just sometimes doesn't register your keystrokes.
I guess this is due to the fact it's a maxed out version or it's a version from the European market. But most vids I've seen now they show plastic cover and only keyboard deck is metal. Small differences to make laptops cheaper
Bought AMD 4800h with the RTX2060 last week. Had the Intel version for about a month as well before returning it. Couple of subtle differences: Colour: Intel: black. AMD: matte grey. Bottom right O15 logo: Intel: smooth AMD: slightly raised (3d effect which I like) Physical edges: Intel: sharp visually, but smooth to the wrist AMD: sharp visually, and also sharper on the wrists RGB 4 Zone keyboard: Intel: Fine AMD: Shines more brightly, and keyboard reflects on the screens bezels slightly (annoying) Omen Command Center: Intel: Can select hybrid or discrete GPU usage AMD: no options for that aside from the 3 performance profiles (comfort, default etc). Fan Noise: Intel: perpetually on, even at idle AMD: turns off

Man I bought the HP Omen 15 2019 with an Intel CPU and an RTX 2060 and the thermals are not so good. It's always thermal throttles to above 90°C on the CPU when playing games on performance mode. I changed the thermal paste to Noctua NT-H2 and although the thermals improved, it still sometimes reach slightly above 90°C.
It's good to see HP Omens getting proper cooling this year, although I do miss the unique design of last year's Omen.
Am also having to deal with issue

Chetan Chaudhari The variant that I have is actually very different and I wasn’t able to find my spec anywhere else in the market(other than HP official website). It has an i7-8750H 16 GB single channel GTX 1050Ti and a 15.6 inch 144 Hz panel. As far as experience goes it was very pleasing despite having a mid tear GPU but the main problem that I suffer from is HEAT, the temps are actually crazy sometimes it reaches up to 90C I’ve also hit T-junction multiple times which forced me to use an external fan and some good ol’ water soaked tissue on top. Last thing i dislike is the material its made out of, hard to clean, very very easy to get dirty
Is the HP omen worth it? Have you played any triple A titles on it? I'm interested in this laptop, I'd appreciate if you'd give me your thoughts.
Facts no Hacks I mainly play AAA titles like battlefield, tomb raider, watch dogs 2, R6 Siege, ... . But if I’m being fully honest it’s not worth it, I play on all low 1080p and get an average of 50 - 70 fps in most games except for R6 I get around 100 (granted I have a 1050ti), and it gets insanely hot sometimes it even hurts if you press a key for too long, but if your looking for a good laptop you should look at the Acer helios 300 or some other good laptop or maybe even the laptop in this video.

Go for predator helios 300. It's the best in this price range.
Triton 300 since that one has 144 Hz while this one is only 60 Hz

3:48 I think the gap between the keyboard and the screen while closing the laptop was done on purpose to avoid smudging the screen. Hear me out, every laptop I've used so far eventually forms this weird smudge on the screen due to the screen resting on the keyboard while closed. This gap between the screen and the keyboard might have been designed to avoid that.
Good point on the screen touching the keyboard. I have a barely noticeable weird area on my older Sager laptop because of this. But I did pack that laptop all over the world.

Common problems on laptops are the keyboard marks on the screens, which seems to be permanent thats probably why the screen doesnt touch the keyboard when you close it at 4:20
It's promising to see this newer version.
I bought a last gen version of this last xmas and it ran REALLY hot. That wasn't a problem in itself, but after 9 months it died. I can't fault HP customer service as they dealt with it quickly and gave me a full refund.
Dave the reason the screen has that weird gap is to let airflow into the laptop when it is closed. So if you are gaming on an external monitor it helps get more airflow in.
Really great review. I didn't expect to know so much about this laptop in so little time. After viewing, I think I'll buy it.

I'm glad you mentioned the weird flex at the back of the screen. I was thinking that the Omen was awesome in some other reviews until I spotted it, and no one else had mentioned the possible impact on reliability if you are carrying it in a backpack
this probs isn't relevant now but i bring this thing to college w me everyday. hp has since added some rubber wedges on the sides to prevent screen flex.
The only thing ive noticed is that the screen picks up faint lines from the keyboard when carried in backpack. i dont know if all laptops have that issue, or if it's just a matte screen thing. Hasn't resulted in any lasting damage, i usually just wipe the screen and it goes away.

I recently bought an omen desktop due to not being able to find components in stock to build my own. They make the only gaming computers at a semi reasonable price that don't look like spaceships with good specs
I just want to warn everyone here: this laptop has a keyboard ghosting issue.
I got mine replaced twice to fix the issue, but it never got resolved. That's three laptops, all with the same issue - it just sometimes doesn't register your keystrokes.

I guess this is due to the fact it's a maxed out version or it's a version from the European market. But most vids I've seen now they show plastic cover and only keyboard deck is metal. Small differences to make laptops cheaper
Design looks amazing
Bought AMD 4800h with the RTX2060 last week. Had the Intel version for about a month as well before returning it.
Couple of subtle differences:
Colour:
Intel: black. AMD: matte grey.
Bottom right O15 logo:
Intel: smooth AMD: slightly raised (3d effect which I like)
Physical edges:
Intel: sharp visually, but smooth to the wrist AMD: sharp visually, and also sharper on the wrists
RGB 4 Zone keyboard:
Intel: Fine AMD: Shines more brightly, and keyboard reflects on the screens bezels slightly (annoying)
Omen Command Center:
Intel: Can select hybrid or discrete GPU usage AMD: no options for that aside from the 3 performance profiles (comfort, default etc).
Fan Noise:
Intel: perpetually on, even at idle AMD: turns off
Do all the 2020 HP Omen's come with the on screen number pad or does some of the 2020 Omen models come with a dedicated number pad

@@rrch2951 sorry mate, you can't use it for GAMING in library, but surely can use for web browsing and light stuff. Also depends on your surrounding temperature as it heats up easily if you live in hot climate. But you can put it on comfort mode on OMEN Gaming Hub
