    Marty, you are so spot on about Somewhere in Time. A great tour as well. I saw them 17 times. I saw their last tour a few years ago at the Tweeter Center outside of Chicago a few years ago. Epic. From what I understand they are on the second leg of that tour as we speak.

    Hey guys, Really cool stream as usual. As much as I love Maiden, Priest have always been more of a favorite and a bit step up. I feel they have touched upon a broader palette of sounds/diversity and came back from earlier in the days. For this first part my take:
    Iron Maiden- 9.0
    Killers- 9.0
    Number of the Beast- 8.5
    Piece of Mind - 9.0
    Powerslave -9.0
    Somewhere in Time - 9.0
    Seventh Son- 9.0
    No Prayer- 7.5
    Fear - 7.0

    • @saltpeter7429
      @saltpeter7429 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy shit. I actually agree with your " take" 100%. That's kind of unusual.
      I hear a lot of talk online about my favorite band, and I do enjoy other people's perspective even if not inline with my own, but it's good to see a kindred fan.
      Certain bands are consistent to me, even though I have heard some fans express outrage and dissatisfaction, I feel have always made at least good music.
      Iron Maiden
      Slayer
      AC/ DC
      And Cannibal Corpse.

    Only recently discovered this channel and maiden is my favourite band so this episode was very enjoyable. Some good points here I'd agree that number of the beast has a couple of fillers but I'd only say gangland and invaders. Powerslave also has a couple of weak tracks but also has probably 3 of their all time greatest songs, same with number of the beast it also has 3 of their greatest songs.

    I really want to comment on what Alan was talking about of an end of an era. Keep in mind it was all Grunge. It didn’t matter if it was Sabbath, Dio, Overkill, Deep Purple, Queensryche, Anthrax, Dream Theater, etc. They ALL had “cut out” albums in 1992/93. Grunge was a virus that started with the hair metal bands and didn’t stop until it consumed all of metal. Record companies despised metal at this point and didn’t care what sub genre it was. Only the extreme stuff seem to thrive but it pretty underground The only bands in the mainstream that remained unscathed were Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, Pantera among a few others. Bands either tried to conform, they broke up or soldiered on. Maiden fucking soldiered on! Fear of the Dark never saw that cut out bin. For 1992 a straight up metal record to still succeed even though yes, they pretty much stayed clear of the U.S. was quite a feat.
    The Riggs era of Maiden is definitive to me. There a some downs but as a whole it’s Iron Maiden at a point they were never going to replicate again. I’m not going say they didn’t make some good ones after 92 but for me? It never got better than 1980-1992. After that not one their albums gets higher than a 6.5 for me. (Well? Maybe X Factor) So the next segment will be interesting for sure from my prospective.

    • @recordmass6298
      @recordmass6298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, I get what you mean, however, "Grunge" really brings on the Sabbath guitar inheritance, the noise and the Melvins etc. Record companies...."Tags" are "tags" as we normally say (the whole punk and metal, etc etc) really hate "tags"... but man just as one example, Alice in Chains-Dirt 1992, is more "metal" and dark than a lot of "metal" albums. Love that shit. In the underground more speed and prog metal was also happening in the 90s, like the german scene for instance-was putting out great stuff. Cheers, Al

    • @metalneanderthal
      @metalneanderthal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@recordmass6298 I get it. The scene was heading for a change. It was different for me. I’m a tad younger. I was born in the late 70s not late 60s or very early 70s so when I was really diving into metal heavily, grunge was just coming up. For some reason I never took to it. I might have not heard Show No Mercy when it came out but I was seeing rated R films in the early and mid 80s. I saw all those action and horror films in the theater or newer on vhs. So the soundtracks to a lot of those films had metal. I didn’t realize at the time but it was clicking for me musically. So yeah. I had a lot more in common with kids who went through high school in the 80s than 90s. As far as big 90s bands it was White Zombie, Biohazard, Type O, Danzig that really clicked. Besides all the 80s stuff. I never liked the majority of the alternative scene. It wasn’t Hollywood enough if that makes any sense. Leather, denim, explosions, blood, chains, THAT was my game. The alternative stuff just seemed the complete opposite. So yeah let’s just say being the only kid I. High school wearing a Motley Crue shirt in 1993/94 didn’t go over well. I didn’t hell well with my fellow 90s class mates. Musically anyway. Hahaha!

      @@metalneanderthal Well let me tell you, I' was born in 81! So we're about the same age haha But I've been a collector and radio journalist ever since. I love the history of music.
      At around 8-10 years old, I first really started out with some basics, not knowing anything because you're just a kid (Guns N roses, ACDC, Metallica...) I knew who Maiden and Motorhead were for instance, but didn´t "understand" it at that very early age. Then discovered the black metal/death metal scenes, at around 12-15 so then I kind of went backwards to the classics: Sabbath, Priest, Motorhead, Maiden, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate and speed/thrash, etc but at the same time I really liked stuff like Alice in Chains, Green River, Melvins, and so forth, and punk, and HC etc. Marilyn Manson's debut in 94 was great because there was really nothing (and still to this day) that sounded like that album-and it was really underground until it exploded with Antichrist Superstar. Lot's of sampling and eerie twisted stuff and influence from Skinny Puppy and 80's industrial. Love Danzig and Type O Neg, but never really cared for White Zombie or Biohazard though xD! The most important/favorite "classic" HM band for me is Priest, it's always been and always will, second with Sabbath. Regards, Al

      Born in 79. Have a brother who is 5 years older. He was bringing home cool tapes from school, Crue, Twisted Sister and Ratt. Stuff like that. I remember when he was playing PIECE OF MIND in his bad ass Olds Cutlass, back seats ripped out with stereo speakers shoved in.
      I loved it. But then he got a cassette of SEVENTH SON and a poster that covered the whole length of our bedroom door ( the writing Eddie with the crystal ball from 7th son).
      It was my first time seeing EDDIE and simultaneously being intrigued and terrified! So funny how many guys I meet from around my age who have similar tales.

  • @martymartin2894
    @martymartin2894 ปีที่แล้ว

    King said they never had a perfect record. I'd almost agree with that except I don't think seventh son has a weak note on it. For me it's their best album start to finish. The debut would be close too.

    DENNIS STRATTON FOREVER!!! such a great voice. 1. Killers 2. Iron Maiden 3. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 4. Piece of Mind 5. The X Factor Agreed with King---Children of the Damned is hall of fame stuff, and Number of the Beast, Gangland, Prisoner, and Run to the Hills are all a bit tiring, and the Invaders chorus is trash. Piece of Mind was a big step up, and Seventh Son the best with Dickinson, since the two Di'Anno albums rule. Deja Vu and Caught Somewhere in Time are the gems from album 6. Judas be my Guide is a winner, but The Apparition is terrible, their worst ever, even worse the Angel and the Gambler. I saw them on Fear of the Dark tour in Florida and the new songs sounded cool, though Afraid to Shoot Strangers was better live the next tour with Blaze.
