Limbonic Art - Opus Daemoniacal Review :: Summoning chaos from beyond!
มุมมอง 3199 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Opus Daemoniacal is the 9th full-length album from Limbonic Art and after a 7 year gap between this and the last, it seems that sole visionary Daemon has returned to crush this realm with his malice. From symphonic beginnings to today where chaos and a sinister brutality guides the sonic forces of this project, the characteristic "Limbonic Art" sound remains true, just composed with even more c...

Alcest - Les chants de l'aurore Review :: Alcest explore the sonic melancholy of spiritual rebirth
มุมมอง 493วันที่ผ่านมา
Heavy Metallurgy is pleased to welcome Myke C-Town to the fold and for his debut review, he dives into the complex, beautiful and somber soundscapes of France's Alcest. Les chants de l'aurore is this duo's 7th full-length album and once again shows just how far they have come from their black metal inception. Post rock? Shoe gaze? Post black metal? There are many envelopes of sound and emotion ...

I was 21 from the end of 93 til the end of 94. I actually had a ton of different shit spinning at the time. Malevolent Creation, NOFX, Life Of Agony, Fear Factory, Cynic, Death, Screeching Weasel, Nine Inch Nails and my friends were bringing in Pearl Jam vs., Nitzer Ebb, Tool (was new), Radiohead, Dinosaur Jr. and then new Carcass so a slew of amazing bands and music!

Well I turned 21 in 2000 so probably biggest album for me that year was maiden's Brave New World I think I began to dip my toes in death metal with cannibal corpse's Live Cannibalism but it would be a couple more years before I truly got into that style certainly didn't get bit by the nu metal bug that was happening at the time! Great show as always fellas!

Awesome topic, especially in seeing the differences in people's lists due to age. Hearing 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day (my favorite band) in '09 was what got me into caring about checking out music but it wasn't until the pandemic that I got really into metal. Therefore, when I turned 21 in 2018 I was listening to a lot of music but it was mostly non metal. Here's what I was listening to when I turned 21 from what I can best remember. 1. Green Day's entire discography, especially their most recent album at the time Revolution Radio 2. Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright in the End 3. Nirvana - Nevermind & In Utero 4. Soundgarden - King Animal 5. Rise Against - Wolves 6. Panic! At the Disco - Death of a Bachelor 7. Paramore - Self-titled & After Laughter 8. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream & Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

Dropkick Murphy's are probably the only contemporary music I was listening to when I turned 21. Well, now that I think of it, I was likely listening to Cradle of Filth still. Usually I would've been listening to reliable classics: Maiden, Motorhead, Ramones.

I have a story about Misfits merch from Walmart. One time a coworker of mine started wearing this Crimson Ghost shirt that had the American flag pattern within it. I let him wear it a few times before I asked struck up a conversation about it. I knew he didn’t know what he had on, because whenever he spoke about music with me, he was always going on about Skynard, Golden Earring, Molly Hatchet and such. So finally, he’s got this shirt on and I go, I didn’t know you liked Misfits. “What’s that? Oh a band? I got this at Walmart. A punk band? No I don’t really listen to punk, I’ve never heard of them.” I strung him along, told him their from the late 70s and he probably has heard one of their songs and didn’t know it. He asked me to sing one of their popular songs and I go I got something to say, I killed your baby today…. He never wore the shirt again.

Nice review! I like early LA but as they dialed back those cosmic-symphonic elements, I think they lost what they excelled at and made them unique. Later stuff was ok but could sound like 'just another BM album'. Similar to what happened to AETERNUS when they became a more generic DM band

in 2:48:59 you talked about Edge of Sanity using a sample of that clip from Prince of Darkness and being a big EoS fan myself, I can't figure out on what album or what song they used it. It's been bugging me for like a week at this point but I still don't know, perhaps you confused it with some other band? Or I don't know man, I wish you could help me if you know which song or album exactly cause I can't stop thinking about it since it's also such a terrifying scene.

Always wondered why they keep dismissing the track “The Answer, never putting it on an album or compilation or playing it live. It’s got a different vibe and pretty long, but it still deserves to be heard by the fans. Unless you can get that cd version of “Fuck You” or you’re one of those special individuals who own the original EP, you cannot hear that song. This was fun. As I knew it was going to happen, I do think you all were a bit harsh on their material from WFO through Immortalis. When comparing to what their peers were putting out during that period, except for Sodom nobody was putting out as good material. (I’m not talking about the underground extreme stuff of the time) At least consistently. Some of their peers went away and came back. That doesn’t count in my book. Overkill never left. Overkill went “screw you alternative rock!” “We’re here and not going away! Nor are we putting a grunge album out either”. Did they adopt more groove? Yes, but it was always there. What true metal doesn’t have groove? Except for caustic black metal, or war metal groove is there, now how much groove? Yes, they amped it up during that time. I won’t argue that. But they never came close to Roots era Sep or Soulfly territory. THAT’S groove! I knew it! If anyone was going to be critical on Ironbound it was going to be Alan. 🤣 you are one picky son of a….! 😂😆. They literally did what you would want from Overkill in spades and the songs seem too long?!? Haha. I also learned from his grading system his students must really have to impress him to get an A in his class😅. If Ironbound had come out in 89? It definitely be an A in his book. It was a good episode. It pretty much went down as I expected. Your criticisms and praises on point with your particular tastes. At the end of the end of the day for me? Overkill’s worst is still decent if not good when comparing to a lot of other metal out there. But that’s just me. Thanks again for the content.

Great choice here, both Overkill and, of course, Darcy. Anyways, prompted by this video, I decided to blow the dust off I Hear Black and listen to it again after god knows how many years since. And, you know, I just don't think it's THAT bad, Granted, it's a major drop from the previous records, and hoo boy, is there a major Pantera influence on this thing, but maybe it'd be better to say that it's a better record on its own than an Overall album. Granted, it's fucking flawed, too. Admittedly! And it really does seem like the Sabbath accusation is largely coming from "Spiritual Void," which was a single from this album (and have from my old college radio days on CD single somewhere). But, I'm not feeling it's a total loss -- which is to say that I might drag it out in another... say... 20 years? LOL. Anyways, great episode.
