It’s always great to come back home. Meaning if you grew up in a pre internet and were introduced to Heavy music by magazine, MTV, or just other people 8/10 times most likely your first big band is a heritage band mine was AC/DC. Highway to Hell was one of the first albums I got. My mom bought it for me for Christmas. So to this day AC/DC play major part in my life. They shaped my music preference. Even now I gravitate to riff oriented rock/metal. Its gotta rock for me to truly love it.
So yeah, I totally get Kiss. I celebrate their whole catalog. As I’ve become older they don’t quite hold up as much as i did. But, I was born 10 to 8 years too late. 80s culture played more into my childhood than 70s. I was just a wee baby in the late 70s. However, i still find Kiss fun to jam. They are one of those bands that just represent great American rock n roll. Fun stream as always.

It all matters as to who your first band was that made you stand up and take notice AND we connect to such a band since the albums become such a fabric of our lives moving forward. thanks for watching!

Howdy, Heavy Metallurgy and Mr King Fowley; 2 years after the fact, this is what i have to say: when I left Lisbon in October 74, Kiss were about to release one of my ever Rock-album favourites, ''Hotter than Hell''. From the record review page of a famous Portuguese quality weekly paper, I discovered the group had already released an eponymous album, but what really struck me was the group's image. Completely new game for a 5th grader who listened to Slade, Suzi Quatro, Sweet, plus a few of (then) recent discoveries like Status Quo, Deep Purple (i only got to Black Sabbath a trifle later with SBS and Sabotage), and that would be all. I only happened to listen to Kiss around late 75/early 76, because they were nowhere to be found on Portuguese shopwindows or National FM Rock radio. It's an interesting story, because the country had just embarked on a 19-month communist bad trip delirium (let's call a bull a bull...) , and Kiss, just like Alice Cooper, Blue Öyster Cult, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, were considered ''American imperialistic'' , ''promoters of Capitalism'' (haha, they were right there...), and dangerous agents of decadence. Even at 11/12/13 that didn't impress me or deter me from following American Hard and Heavy; on Nov 25th 75 there was a counter-coup and the country ''returned'' to a more liberal stance on culture and media. As 76 went on, ''Destroyer'' arrived and then i discovered their own take on RnR; Ace became one of my guitar gurus and i went on collecting their albums, slowly and patiently, often waiting years to get ''that'' album or the other. I think RnR Over was the hardest to find, as well as Dressed to kill. Stanley once said there's just no chance of someone having a moderate opinion about Kiss' music - i beg to differ, because I'm not a fanatic, but i think my collection wouldn't be ''complete'' without their records. Respect and dedication come prior to fanaticism, and that's OK. Either people like them or not, they are a solid and animated section of RnR History. Cheers!

It’s always a blast King. I wish Alan and Marty were bigger horror fans because I’d love hear you talk more about your favorite horror flicks. Horror is my second love after music.

Super interesting chat you had, was nice to hear all that because KISS is my fave band. And its nice to see King Fowley with Marty. I started to follow DECEASED with the debut that i bought on vinyl but i really liked his more traditional metal band OCTOBER 31. Its was cool to find a band like that from the US being so true to the 80s with a own sound.

I enjoy both of King's bands, but I started way back with Deceased and will always love what those guys do. And regarding King.... he was the perfect pick for this episode for sure. Always rules to have him on. Thanks for watching Rene!

Another great episode with King! I've been getting in to Kiss more lately so this was a welcome topic. I picked up the box set cheap and that sent me down the rabbit hole.

If it's the Box set i'm thinking of, then yes.... that spans a mighty good chumnk of their formative years. Glad you're getting into the band and even better yet, the fact that we could help a bit on that journey. Thanks for watching!

King rules and is definitely one of the Heavy Metallurgy crew! And don't sweat not being able to catch the shows live.... we archive them for this purpose as most people don't have multiple hours to invest at a show this long in one sitting. Thanks for watching!

Really entertaining session Marty and King. Thanks! My personal faves : Debut, Hotter than Hell, Dynasty, rock and roll over, Love Gun, Creatures, Psycho Circus song.
I love Alice in Chains, sabbath drenched thick riffing and similar sounds as well, but I agree it is truly ridiculous seeing Kiss TRYING to sound like something else, absolutely ridiculous.
    Salutens! Al

Yeah, Carnival of Souls is tough to take seriously as you know their reasons behind it are less than authentic, BUT, i ended up enjoying a bulk of that album somehow. Thanks for watching and sharing your faves.

I'm always curious to see others Kiss album rankings. I am surprised by the love for Unmasked and Paul Stanley solo album. I am too young to know about some of the backlash against Destroyer when it was released because it was too polished but I understand why. Also, it seems like Lick It Up has definitely stood the test of time and seems highly regarded among Kiss fans, even being #1 for some. Cheers!

wish i could've joined you fellas! my top 10: 1 love gun 2 dynasty 3 rock and roll over 4 kiss 5 hotter than hell 6 the elder 7 unmasked 8 paul stanley 9 ace frehely 10 creatures of the night
I remember seeing them on the hot in the shade tour and being thrilled that they played i want you, love gun, and i stole your love (borrowed: the riff from deep purple's burn), which (like king fowley) were my top 3, though now i would probably rank the following cuts a bit higher: strange ways, naked city, black diamond (the double platinum version), a world without heroes, i love it loud (such a manowar prototype!) and save your love.

Great to see The Elder, Killers, and Carnival of Souls getting some love. I think Monster is the closest the band came to recapturing their original sound and that's why they haven't put anything out since. What about Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits? Hahaha..."Let's put the X in Sex", "Rock Hard" lol. Those songs are bad but I still like them...and King, you know you like "Danger Us" hahaha 😆
