    I would love to see brands showcase their products on older women (50 and up) via photos displayed in Ulta, Sephora, all other cosmetics stores, as well as hair salons. All I see are young girls. They need to cater to all ages. And without filters.

      I hope you see this reply because I work at JCPenney and we revamped our beauty space since Sephora left and there are GREAT products for mature skin. We also use older models on some of our marketing as well! There’s a couple skin care brands that come to mind immediately! Cosrx and prai beauty. We also carry everything from drug store pricing (elf) to high end (mirabella, Kim chi) and there’s some new stuff coming this year that Sephora and ulta carries!

    On your response to the politics opinion: you said supporting someone who kills dogs was a "dramatic example" but I think you prove such a good point. No one in their right mind would support harm of dogs, but they put so many human rights issues in the "oh that's just politics" box. But if you support a brand that funds conversion therapy leading to high suicide rates in LGBTQ youth.....that's a pretty dramatic impact. I just think so many people who have the privilege to ignore "politics" when it's the lives of real people don't know what they are talking about and just want to live in a bubble. Thank you for standing up for those of us who think it matters to see where our money goes.

    Another beauty influencer ( ironic) made a statement that I agree with. Those who are easily heavily influenced are lacking in critical thinking skills.
    This applies to being easily influenced not just on beauty, clothing but influenced on views, purchases, hobbies, how they talk etc.
    This isn't like oh, I have been looking for a certain item so I'm watching vids about it and found one that seems good so I'll try it. But the over almost gullibility of excitement or maybe wanting to fit in because something is popular or going along with everyone else is saying just because that's what you are told vs actually looking into it.

    • @maryeckel9682
      @maryeckel9682 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      The sad thing is, that describes the kids going to the beauty store all too well. Most of them haven't developed critical thinking to the point of filtering the content they consume. Of course, too many adults never learned how to do that, either. In the US, I blame the pressure to have kids pass standardized tests and not actually learn important things.

    • @Silly_fairy
      @Silly_fairy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I believe that while nothing forcibly compels someone to buy something, it's undeniable that we're so heavily influenced that we often don't realize it anymore.
      I hear people say there's nothing wrong with a brand selling a product that "fixes" your insecurities, but I believe they're not seeing the full picture. In a capitalist society, brands profit more when more people buy, so naturally, they'll do whatever it takes to increase sales. That's where advertising comes in. For example, "with this serum, you won't have to worry about wrinkles any longer" implies that wrinkles are something you should worry about.
      We're socialized from a young age to worry about our aesthetics, learning what's "ugly" versus "pretty". I'd argue that insecurities based on aesthetics are more common in women because they're often praised for their appearance rather than their actions, taught to be pretty objects for the world, believing it's their purpose.
      I believe that trans people, through transitioning, can highlight many differences in how we're treated and how we internalize societal messages. Having experienced aligning with different gender roles and feeling pressure to conform to various ideals, they provide valuable insights.
      As a non-binary individual who was socialized to "act, think, and value" masculinity, my insecurities also evolved during my transitioning process. Being perceived as more feminine intensified pressures related to presenting as feminine, particularly concerning aesthetics like aging, skin texture, and delicacy.
      Paradoxically, a part of me finds joy in having these insecurities, as if they validate my trans identity, which seems absurd!
      I'm pretty sure these brands are targeting the insecurities of women and feminine-presenting individuals.

      I also think Americans are just conditioned to be susceptible to advertisements. Throughout their whole life, they are consistently being advertised to, to a degree that you’re spending less time of your life not being advertised to than you are witnissing ads. It’s certainly true for other nationalities as well but the amount of ads Americans view vs the rest of the world is far far larger. Add on top of that their education system being designed to pump out work horses instead of fully realized adults and you’ve got a country full of gullible people that lack critical thinking skills.

    About clean makeup, I really understand where people are coming from, but I really can't desire the end of this trend.
    I was raised in 'bold glamour'/y2k era, and I've grown into a "Not Like The Other Girls" teenager kind of making fun of who was “too girly” (that included skirts, make up, idk) and around last year I discovered that it was all due to how I've been thought that I wasn't pretty or my face shape wasn't good enough. My body wasn't the right type for skirts, my face wasn't the right tone for the make up trends and my facial structures were too soft and rounded for bold makeup... I guess I kind of hated, not the trends themselves, but the fact that I couldn't be included in them-or at least the idea that I couldn't.
    But clean makeup was easy to learn. It was like a kind introduction to show what could fit me not to look glamurous, but like myself. I started to see my face shape as cute, my downturned eyes as lovely and even my thin asf lips lol-through tips and tricks and "hacks", I learned how to feel good about the things I hated before, so that now I feel confident enough to try on new styles and shades and aesthetics-Because I'm already aware of what I am, what I'm not, and what I can look like.
    If you've read it until now, thank you for your attention and time LOL God bless y'all

      I don't think we should because we've fought so hard for inclusivity and making more options available for people with deeper skin tones. But that's always been Bobbi Brown's aesthetic (I'm talking about the woman, not her original brand of makeup, although that too). She got her start in NYC in the 1980s evangelizing nude, natural looks amidst a glittering sea of neon. She left Bobbi Brown Cosmetics almost a decade ago, and it's still clearly part of that brand's DNA. Now she has built it into Jones Road. Bobbi Brown has never been about bold looks. "Your skin but better" might be IT Cosmetics motto, but it's been Bobbi Brown's raison d'etre. Her vision has been exceedingly consistent over four decades.

    I'm 59 and when I was growing up and first using makeup, it was just makeup, not "drugstore" makeup. These were just what everyone wore - Maybelline, Revlon, Cover Girl, etc. If you had to go to the mall, to the department store, to find it, it was not considered regular people makeup, it was some exotic high end stuff, you know? (Your experience may have been different if you were wealthier). The only time I ever spent stupid money on cosmetics was in the 80s when Clinique came along and after a couple of years of that I realized what a ripoff it was. I went back to normal everyday brands that have stood the test of time and have never looked back. I absolutely will not fall for the flavor of the moment brands, regardless of who is behind them or talking them up. Will I buy and try super affordable products on a whim? You bet I will :-)

    I think a lot of the irritation about influencers getting PR stems from the fact that some influencers act very braggy and snotty about it. They act like it is a huge status symbol for them to be gifted those products and it's almost like they're trying to get you to envy them enough that you will go out and buy the product. Not all influencers, obviously, but some of them act a little bit like mean girls about these products, especially when they are luxury items. They swoon and say how OBSESSED they are and how all of us should RUN out and get them but in the back of your mind you're wondering if you can trust the review, especially when a month later they are talking about all their favorite products from the last month and they don't even mention the product they were telling us we needed. Before I got savvy and found the beauty influencers I like, I was influenced by these gushing reviews of PR products. Kind of like with sponsorships. You learn who is promoting a product because they genuinely like it versus getting paid to endorse it.

    unpopular opinion: we should stop trying to make universally flattering a thing because it can’t. there are ways for people to manipulate products for them to work better for them but realistically a brand should try to create products that attempt to create the same look on different shade levels by adjusting the amount of white pigments, the saturation, and accounting for differences in color.

    I'm 60, and I love makeup and bold colors! I can wear brighter, bolder colors without them looking "crazy," but I love neutrals so much as well! Since the pandemic, I've been working from home, and plan to do so indefinitely. This has given me the opportunity to up my skincare routine, and my skin looks absolutely great, especially for my age! I don't wear makeup most days, but I do wear a nice serum and skincare creams; they can really make a difference!
    Women today don't look their age, but regardless, I think you should wear whatever makes you feel good and confident and happy!
    I really enjoy some of the makeup tutorials, like Robert's, with great ideas on products and eye shadow looks, etc., and that you can literally order anything you want online.
    I'm having a hard time with the "10-year-olds in Sephora" and recording TikTok videos at that age. I feel like they should be focusing on other things, like getting an education, socializing in person with friends and doing things "off line." I think this whole TikTok/Instagram culture is just crazy - it's too much, and I'm worried about them (as us as a society), going forward. I don't think this is healthy. Some amount of screentime, etc is fine - but like with anything else, excessive use and obsessive attention to one's appearance and the need for "likes" and "followers," and the excessive buying of cosmetics/skincare at such a very young age is just disturbing to me.

    I am still patiently waiting on you to put out a proper mascara that has the ideal brush and doesn't cost a mint!

      Wouldn't that be lovely? In the meantime, one of my favorite tips from Robert: if you have a mascara you love, but it's too pricey to buy all the time, when that mascara runs out, save the wand, wash it off, and use it with your more affordable mascaras. The wand really can make a difference.

    I love watching your new makeup videos. Gives me inspiration for the next look. You're right. I don't like overpowering lip color either. I've been trying new ones to give them a fair chance. I'm always doing the bleeding lip because of you lol. Thanks Robert! ☺️

    I have silver and white hair. I call it the silver, my natural glitter locks. Women comment on my hair all the time, saying they wish I could do it. I wish grey was embraced on women it can be gorgeous! I still do fun things with my hair. Occasionally, I will get highlights of purple or teal. Mostly, I keep it natural. My personal view on makeup is a fun way to accent. When I was younger, my view was to cover what I viewed as flawed.

    I don't understand why people think influencers or content creators should have to buy everything. They're spending money on making free content for you. Getting the products for free means they can keep making free content for you... what are you complaining about?? It just sounds like childish jealousy to me.

    Unpopular opinion : the more I spend on makeup and skincare (mostly skincare lately) the uglier I feel because the more flaws I notice 🥲
    It sucks because I really do enjoy these things!!!
