For those of you who are having an issue with the AI. Just turn down the sniping difficulty to hard and rest to authentic. There is this AI bug where enemy IQ goes to zero when played in authentic.
Now enemies will easily spot you from 40 meters and sense your presence if you move while hiding in the bush and shoot if you move. This makes the game so much fun and makes you take your time playing it
For context I should add this.
I played the game through on Authentic difficulty which is the hardest possible setting, all the footage in this video was captured on this level and I show that simply to stop fan boys saying the Ai is bad because it's on easy, they do this alot to try and defend bad games. I also actually show the difficulty settings as proof that the Ai is literally that bad. Once I was done with the game I went back in on an easier setting to enable X-Ray vision so I could show footage of this for the start of the video.

X-Ray Vision for Xmas Number 1! Mack - Mate, I have a way for you to accept the existence of X-ray vision, hear me out, because I do agree with you on the subject in general. HOWEVER for a game like this you can tell yourself - if I was there for real, using all of my senses - sound, vibrations etc etc you WOULD be able to get an idea of where someone was without your eyes. I think the distance of X-ray vision should be less then 10m and agree that it ruins many, many games. But it makes sense, kinda, in a stealth game and also - you don't have to use it.
Its included day 1 on GamePass PC/Xbox, so there is that,

The rendering screwed up with this video guys, it looks a bit fuzzy, it may get better as the processing on TH-cam also stalled, hopefully that fixes itself. As for the game, well it's another lacklustre showing from the SE franchise, it goes from very immersive to laugh out loud deplorable all the time. I mean when are Rebellion going to just let us jump like most other games? When are they going to actually hire an Ai coder? This game has loads of problems but at times it's really great to play, sadly them times don't happen that often for me.

"Let's go to Vietnam." That's an *excellent* point, Mack. The title "sniper elite" isn't WWII specific, and Vietnam is pretty legendary for a few sniper duels. A game that makes you a Carlos Hathcock ripoff and does it well would be fucking fantastic!

The guy literally says at the end of the first game, "The allies were looking ahead towards the new war. The Cold War. And I was its' first soldier". And then they proceed to avoid that era like the plague, even though it would give them boatloads of new gameplay options in terms of technology like weaponry.

I was dying watching this as I watch my mid 60’s year old dad playing through absolutely loving this game. He has played through SE4 probably 15 times. It’s his escape. I lost it at the end
I bought sniper elite 4 on ps5 for $9. They updated the game to run and look better on ps5. I play with all hud turned off and no x ray tags. It’s actually a lot more fun that way. When sniper elite 5 is $10 I will buy it too.

When i first heard of that game, a few days ago, i thought i was stuck in a timeloop. It looks exactly like the predecessor, they even surpassed the CoD level of "the same game every year". this is the "exact" same game, hell, even this review felt like déjà vu.

Despite how dumb and silly it was when Sniper Elite 2 was after the concept idea of the 1st game (2001), after that...the sequels just felt like Standalone Expansions rather than another game with different elements

@@JohnJohn-pm9wq they shouldn't be able to spot you moving in a Bush. Ai difficulty should be about skill not super powers. I've always just played on hard mode. Sit around a wall with Machine gun, and they all come 1 after the next lol it's like a loco path with no filter or logic state networks...

X-ray has been an option in every Sniper Elite.. So many contradictions "it forces you to play ..." (20 seconds before) "I didn't bother with stealth I blew up tanks and they all came towards me"

Lol, you are right! How many times in games have I had to walk around a small obstacle when I should be able to just step or jump over it. It breaks immersion so much and it's often completely unnecessary.

Many new games could be made with the different point of view from just a Wehrmacht or Japanese soldier.
There's about 30 skins and you get to use like 6 in campaign. I've unlocked tonnes of axis and allies skins that just aren't available in offline which sucks.

I recently replayed SE V2, three Germans, shot one. The other two started looking for me until they calmed down and one said, 'stand down, all clear'. Then he said 'he's here somewhere' and they start looking for me again until they got bored, 'stand down, all clear', and a moment later they were again convinced that I was there somewhere and went back looking. Merry dance that lasted for a good five minutes till I shot their nuts off.
Then again it was during the fall of Berlin so they might have been demented old bastards because they ran out of young troops, 10/10 for realism.

Eurogamer gave this an 'Essential' rating which to be honest I was very suspicious of. Glad to hear some hard truths! I'm really only interested in the slower 'bide your time' proper stealth sections so maybe I'll wait til it's dirt cheap.

Sniper Contracts has some moments like that and it's dirt cheap right now. I had fun playing the hitman style levels of that one

Imagine if you had the AI of FEAR and Halflife in a modern game, it would be so cool. The AI in this game looks hilarious (but sad). I prefer the Sniper Ghost Warrior series, mainly because it's firtsperson.
That would require investment into level design. Instead of litting an AI create most of the world.
Half life ai wasn't all that great but fear had me down cataclysmic
The AI in FEAR was an illusion and simply wouldn't translate well to open world.. Personally I find the AI in SE4/5 overall pretty fun!
Great game, fun to play, though I found that Teller mines wouldn't t work on the armoured car in War Factory level. Then on Guernsey level, Panzerfausts would not blow up the tank. They damaged it and it later disappeared. The same with the Armoured car in previous level. Anti tank gun didn t work on the Armoured car either. Also on the Spy Academy level there was a glitch where my rifle poked through a stone turret wall when firing in animation camera. That s on PS4.

This game really just looks like an expansion pack of the last one
I don't know that I really see any graphical improvement at all, animations and controls are still a little bit janky, this series would be a prime example of what I would call a AA game
All of that being said, I can't say it isn't fun. The series feels like it really hasn't evolved all that much since the exception other than larger levels, but this game has always kind of felt like Hitman meets Metal Gear Solid in World War II
And that whole concept just kind of vibes with me I can't lie
I wish they made bigger strides to improve the game, but considering this thing is on game pass I'm also not complaining too much to just hop in and do some more of the same in new places
I definitely wouldn't pay full price for this though

After this it took me 3 hours to complete the first mission because the AI was brutal

By they way, one of the Early Access games you thumbed up some time ago just came out. It's Hardspace: Shipbreaker, the one where you salvage starships on a space station. While I didn't play it in EA, it seems way better now and they adressed several of the criticisms in your review, mainly the time limit (they added "Open Shift", a difficulty level that removes the timer and makes oxygen consumption optional) as well as adding a bit more ship variety and a decent story.

I'm playing the game on Authenthic and i'm having a blast so far. Yeah, it's basically another Sniper Elite but I think the scenarios are much better than 4, the weapon customization is great, coop and axis invasion is pretty fun too. Sadly, the game is not well optimized and has terrible antialiasing on Series S, I found bugs galore and the AI is terrible. For me it's a 7,5 to 8 so far

I think the AI was broken for you because they were absolutely doing none of the dumb shit for me. They were flanking me, flushing me out with grenades, surrounding me, covering the guy going for the alarm etc. maybe I’m the only one who experienced that.
They did that to me but in the entire game it happened about 5 times, the stuff in this video happened everytime I went in a cornfield. I also could easily outwit them in bases by firing at them and then moving behind them through another door as they do that He Is There bullshit.
Actually, Mack, you were in a wheat field, not a corn field, so yeah, that is the same as playing on easy AI. Try sitting in a real corn field next time and see what happens to you, FFS! 😜

Only a few systems are having this issue and now the game has been patched out with the 28th May update. There are only 3 difficulty settings which every player has to adjust before playing the game that is mandatory, because the games difficulty setting is like tomb raider where you can manually change combat, tactics, and Sniping. When you buy a game you surely go through the graphics settings to change the settings which has more than 10 settings? so what's the issue with adjusting 3 settings? you are probably gonna skip on one of the best tactical games ever made. I completed the game in 32 hours with each mission taking over 3 hours, this game is not your walk in a park

Were you using the relocation system? In SE3-4 if you relocate after each shot they know your active but can't pen down where you are. So you can keep takeing sniper shots and remain stealthy
for the life of me i dont understand how AI in games is so bad. like i remember playing games 15 years ago and the AI was pretty reasonable. i guess ppl just dont care enough to force the market to do better in that department? idk it's weird how regressed AI is in video games.

Game has ran its course for me and has done since SE3. It literally seems like the same game with some upgrade stuff and some invasion mode. The only plus I can think of is that it’s on Game Pass day one.
I'm currently playing it through Game Pass. I'm having fun with it trying to sneak around and be stealthy.

The AI looks completely broken at the moment. There’s no way the AI in Sniper Elite 4 on Authentic Plus is this dumb, I play it regularly and they’re fairly lethal, and once they know where you’re hiding they kill you in a bush or corn field. I think it’ll be worth reserving judgment in 3mths once they’ve sorted out some of the bugs. Also agree that it’s really overpriced at present.
Also fully agree with you on the lack of jumping. For me it’s really unimaginative they’ve not totally upgraded the physical environment and graphical engine given it’s been 5yrs.
The ending made me choke on my beans and sausages 🤣🤣 no doubt people will just gloss over everything and feel some false sense of satisfaction from playing it. Personally I found the slow motion cheap and annoying. I'd much rather check my windage and zeroing for a bit of a challenge

I loved the last few seconds of the review. It summed it all up perfectly. Will not be buying this game until it goes down to at least $5.99 and maybe not even then. Great Job I love your work.

Ur missing out and it's free on gamepass (minus ur few bucks a month) so far it's a very good game. Looks great and alot of fun.

For those of you who are having an issue with the AI. Just turn down the sniping difficulty to hard and rest to authentic. There is this AI bug where enemy IQ goes to zero when played in authentic.
Now enemies will easily spot you from 40 meters and sense your presence if you move while hiding in the bush and shoot if you move. This makes the game so much fun and makes you take your time playing it
