before starting the clip. "ahh this game i have heard very good things about". starts video. mack starts to pling on the bell slowely. "i got a bad feeling about this"...
It's been a few days since this review went live and I would like to comment on your feedback. Firstly I was quite surprised at how many MGS fans agree with this review, I did expect a "Witcher 3" kind of backlash but it does seem that the vast majority of MGS fans are able to see that this game has veered off course too much and they also noticed the horrible Ai, rinse and repeat missions and lifeless constrained open world map. As for the fan boys who has hurled all the abuse it's been a very pathetic defence from them, but tbh I was amazed they could even try to defend this as I actually show video proof of all the major flaws that I mention in the game. (map, Ai and mission structure). So what the fan boys had to do was pretend that I never actually mention Poor Ai, horrible map or repetitive missions, so they decided that I disliked the game because it's a Stealth game and a MGS game :o yet in my review I never once said either were a reason for my thumb down. I even had a few people say the bad Ai was a feature (I was LMAO) and that the map was empty, lifeless and constrained to make the game better (hahah brilliant). I will end this with what I said in my video review. It's not a bad game by any means, there is some great fun to be had in MGSV it's just not a £45 game as it has poor open world, poor Ai and very repetitive missions. Reviews are just opinions and am very disappointed that I have had to ban over 50 people and many of those people wished I would die IRL Such a sad world we live in today.
You're mistakening me for a mgs fan which I'm not. I give credit where credit is due. I'm also a gamer who can actually see the difference between a good game versus a bad game. He bashes the game throughout the whole review , then says in his previous comment that the game is not bad and there's fun to be had. How is anyone suppose to take his review seriously?
TheRedwhiteblue22 You know after it's all said and done I think it's his personality and his tone that comes through so much in his videos. He makes some points that are on a borderline level of me agreeing with but none of them I really take seriously because I have a hard time seeing how it would be game breaking. This game is incredible.
Omni Matt I don't play any of these games. I watch out of curiosity. But the one that I did play, The Witcher 3, I quit after a short time for the same reasons he gave. However unimportant some of the gripes, the overall gist of it was still spot on. He also gives minor gripes about the games he recommends. If anyone has some proof that he is wrong about some major fact, that person should feel free to make a video showing it. But I don't think that will happen because I haven't seen it happen. It seems that people have lots of spare time to send him abusive messages, but not enough time to prove a point. Also, that appeal to the label is noted. I.e., it is an "MGS" title. Therefore, it is good. Sounds like exactly what he was talking about in the video.
CaleyMcKibbin TLDR TLDR I know I know save it save it........ And he "qualifies" his statements with his own biased opinions. They are his opinions and that's fine but just because we are trying to point out to people that this is a game worth trying out he wants to call us fanboys because he can't use a mouse and keyboard to crawl. Or the game breaking credits roll after every mission which I think is a nice and unique touch. Or the fact that he wishes the game was harder because for whatever reason he's not satisfied with the difficulty and wish guards could see him when he's sitting on the highest possible mountain peak. He complains about no options yet there are a plethora of options. So again, I can back up and defend my opinion yet he and you and whoever else will jump the gun and say oh no you're wrong he's clearly right and honest and straight headed no body else on this earth knows how to review a video game series that has been around for 20+ years. It's not because we know he's right it's because it infuriates us how someone can take the smallest detail and convince mass amounts of people that it's game breaking when you don't even notice most of the shit when you're in the game. Maybe it would be cool to see guards put forth more effort in chasing you after they notice you. Like get helicopter support or jump in trucks and drive around and try to find you but then you're going more into what kind of game it could be instead of reviewing what the game is. There's a whole story and side missions and things to distract you. This is not Farcry3 it's not fucking splinter cell. There are no games out there that are the same as this game. I mean I don't go through and read other people's comments but I've read some and they all have good opposing views so if you want to sit there and say that we are wrong and he is right then you're just as biased as me and Mack and whoever else wants to start an argument. Name it the fucking butterfly war rainbow farters and the game would still get a 7 or above. That doesn't mean it is a horse shit game. it just means it wouldn't be rated a 10/10 Anybody can be cocky about their opinion and views but at the end of the day that's all they are. Are your opinions and your views. This game brings me hours and hours of joy and I refuse to let someone say that we are wrong and we're just kidding ourselves into enjoying the game. he says the sneaking around mechanic is bogus yet I find it to be the most fun. So. Fuck me and call me a fanboy but I'd create a youtube channel and review it myself if I wasn't too busy playing the damn thing.
+Beauweir Its done like that because Konami basically said fuck every console/PC gamer and went straight to mobile gaming/gambling for its earnings. It cut off ties with Kojima and brought down its own franchise (Silent Hill) repeatedly. They have no respect and they own the rights to it. Right now, they're even making a fucking Silent Hill gambling machine... Think of the credits of each mission by Kojima as a big middle finger to Konami that the success belongs to him and its what made Konami successful, not Konami itself.
+facebeeotch No it's done because they wanted it to be like a tv show. Hence why when you're entering the level it says things like "Guest starring" and "Featuring enemies" etc.
Mac, we all know that consumers are insane. WE will literally buy a shit product and defend it based on years and years of anticipation and marketing ploys. Its called Marketing and companies love it! They eat it up like sausage and mash! Keep ringing that bell Mac. KEEP RINGING YOUR FUCKING BELL YOU HONEST SON OF A BITCH!
+Aki79 It's fucking ridiculous, there are very few people who are unaffected by it... I was somewhat interested in The Witcher 3 coming out as I had played the second one and enjoyed it, but then... Well, we all know how that turned out. I refunded it pretty quick. Anyway, I have a feeling Fallout 4 is going to be shit, and just about every other game everyone is hyped up for. _IT FUCKING PISSES ME OFF THAT PEOPLE DEFEND THIS KIND OF SHIT._ Too many people are just fucking retarded. There are very few good games these days, and it's certainly not triple A devs that are producing them, which is why I stay away from anything made by people who will make the same shit over and over and people still fucking buy. Here's predicting fucking Battlefront will be "Battlefield: Star Wars Edition". PEOPLE STILL BUY THIS SHIT. Even after they've seen trailers and stuff that clearly shows no innovation on the part of the dev. It is so ridiculous and it pisses me the fuck off... Another thing that pisses me of is that I have friends who _prepurchase_ shit like this before it even comes out. IT'S FUCKING IDIOTIC. I no longer can contain my rage. Going to make a video tomorrow about this constant bullshit.
+Internetzspacezshipz I see where you're coming from. The crap they're peddling now is just so disheartening. I've gone off gaming completely. Batman Arkham City was empty repetitive shite, Metal Gear 5 is an hollow abortion, Battlewars; Starfront looks brain dead, Assassin's Creed will never change as Ubisoft have no standards, Call of Duty is stale, FIFA hasn't chanded in 6 years, Final Fantasy is dead and Bethesda are developing and publishing Fallout 4 so we all know how that's going to end. No standards, no respect, no morals. The motto of the games industry.
Just want to mention that the review was done over three days, the first part when I said 10 hours play was only up to the point where I recorded the first part. I did another 10 hours before I recorded the rest of the review so total time played on this review is 20 hours.
+Worth A Buy if tho you are wrong about many things and i disagree/agree with some of your points... thx for making me laugh love the whole i bet 100 foot mech will come in XD.... let me give you a hint. a Metal Gear is a 100 foot mech great video
***** MGS2 is literally a postmodern deconstruction of essentially what is your average Metal Gear fanboy. It is the only game that I have played that even approaches art. It's whole message is that you shouldn't let other people's opinions influence your own, you should figure it out for yourself. It's incredibly thought provoking. MGS3 is the only truly overrated game in the series, but it is still a good game in itself
+Worth A Buy Meh...gonna buy it anyway since I knew most of the shit that was in ther since Ground Zeroes. I was waiting for it to be around 30€ but now that you said it had micro transactions I will definitely not pay more than 10€ for this, got a lot games in Steam to finish anyway so I can wait. Cheers for the heads up mate! I also think there must be something dodgy with the 10/10 scores, but it is the gaming press we are talking about right? Dodgy shit is kinda their thing...just hope Kojima didn't suck off Kuchera...
+Razor Blazor Going out of your way to bash every popular game by nitpicking isn't really having a working brain. Well, it makes you a bit smarter than the people you fool into thinking you have, but ultimately it's not really that much of an elaborate trick. At this point, this whole "look at me, my opinions are unpopular" is actually getting a bit sad
The Algerian The game had retarded AI that can't see. It's factual. Not an opinion. In no way is this game 10/10 just for that alone. That's not nitpicking. It's a mediocre game at best. It's fucking obvious if you have any braincells still working.
Razor Blazor Who said anything about 10/10? There's a very wide range of rankings between 10/10 and mediocre. As for the AI that can't see? lawl. If each outpost would spot you each time you try to get from A to B, he would've complained about that instead. But the most moronic of his points clearly goes to "you get less points if you kill everyone in 2 minutes, not like real life hurr durr" And again, in this instance too, if they did it the other way around, he would have complained about that. If YOU had any braincells still working, you'd see the pattern by now, and you'd see that the "unpopular opinion" is basically just a marketing trick.
Razor Blazor Don't worry, I had no intention of dragging this out any longer. It's a bit funny to see you acting like you're the one who'd be wasting his time, though.
+mrcheesemunch FYI, the cardboard box was one thing. But attaching a balloon to an unconscious enemy who then works in your base? A horse activating it's own escape balloon? Why doesn't Snake have an escape balloon? My point is, all the bullshit added up. I don't think he was talking about the cardboard box as it's own, but that the whole game is a joke. It's crap.
+Alejandro Capitan Mack's never been afraid of pissing off fans. Then again, I don't get why fans always have to get their knickers in a twist. I'm a huge MGS Fangirl and though I don't agree with him on a lot of things (Some things I do agree on, like parts of the opening being directed like crap. I too was saying BS at the 'playing dead' bit and the overdone credits, etc.), but I will respect anyone's opinion as long as it's honest and Mack has ALWAYS been Honest. I've heard some people say he's just a contrarian or a troll, but I don't think that's the case. If he were either and were just thumbing down popular things because they were popular, he would be inconsistent and never explain his actions. Yet anyone who watches his reviews can clearly define his tastes, what he likes, and what he doesn't like. And I'd rather have someone slag off a game I love while being honest than hear someone with too much corporate dopamine in their necks (Or nostalgia, or blind fanboyism, etc.) just give it the highest score possible and not actually critique the damn game.
+Kaye Faye I agree with you, Kaye, but the thing that hits a bit hard from Mack at times is how he ridicules the people that actually spend time investing in the story and saga of things. Giving harsh reviews of games is one thing - having a go at fans is another. This is a series that has stuck with me for 14 years, and boy was I ever scared that they'd fuck this one up. Especially since I'm not a fan of open world games. In comparison to a host of others out there, this one captivates me to no end. Metal Gear was never about logic. Games rarely are. They are about fun! Being intrigued and captivated. Metal Gear has always done that, at least for me. I just miss a more balanced scale from Mack. It seems that either a game "SUCKS BALLS AND IS FOR CHILDREN" or it's "actually a good game." How he gives Mad Max a thumbs up based on the combat "not sucking as much as expected" and this one a thumb down is beyond me.
"This game has a point system and expects me to play by it's rules to get a high score. But it's that's not REALISTIC so this game is SHIT." You can say the same about literally EVERY ♥♥♥♥ing stealth game with a point system. They just give higher points for the more difficult way to play. It takes more skill and planning to not be seen and get the objective done quick so obviously will get more points for it. God... You know it fucking shows that you dislike stealth games or at least hate ones with a score system. And people really think you're "unbiased"?
I absolutely love your honesty. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to find a youtuber writing reviews for games, who isn't being paid off by developers and publishers and such. I only wish you had a team so you could have time to cover more games. Thank you for this Channel.
+Westley Farmer It's not easy either, knowing your review is going to cause a shit storm and lose you subs when it's your job is a horrible situation, then you brace for the torrent of personal abuse that comes in by the hundred, it's shit tbh but I value my integrity above my channel. Cheers for the support.
the "Party Balloon" that he is talking about is called the Fulton Recovery Device or "Skyhook" a balloon goes up attached to a cable a plane catches the cable with a hook and pulls the cargo on board It was originally developed in WW2 but was unfit for use with personnel so they used it for cargo only by the Cold War when the game is based it was further developed and now suitable for use by personnel for fast extraction from hot zones the CIA used in countries in South America don't believe me just search it there's plenty of documentaries and videos showing it being used of course it has been a bit gamified in MGSV but it is real
+Recoil Gaming Exploits Yeah, skyhook is real, but look how it is implemented here. Balloon does not travel that far into air to connect to the plane.. It just teleports
this review is spot on. my dog could probably infiltrate the bases in this game unseen (and i don't mean for real, i mean using his little paws on the controller) its so fkin easy (even on "hard") the story isn't even a story, it's just a miss match of random shit that makes no sense. the voice acting is abysmal the Ai is beyond abysmal the base management stuff is over complicated and boring. it is linear (open world my arse) all terrain so far is valleys with roads running down them, you can't go over the mountains, you can't freely move around the world, you are forced down these narrow empty paths to your objective. (im unsure if this will be different once you get to Africa but im highly sceptical) the other night i was going past a base and there were 2 guys standing about 3 feet away from each other, I "sneaked" up to them making more noise than a barrel full of maracas and grabbed one guy, interrogated him, knocked him out while his friend was on some other fkin planet (he sure wasn't in the same game world as me and my new friend) comical to say the least the controls are beyond awful (even with a controller). I also have reverted to the same gameplay as you. alert every c**t although i usually do it by using C4 on their radar dish :) its the only way to get any fun out of this game
+chemicalBR0 You are a deluded hater that sucks at games and just hate everything in the world including kittens. Sorry just getting in before the fan boys to save them having to tell you themselves ;)
Worth A Buy the weird thing is that despite all its shortcomings there are still enjoyable parts in the game. at least it will pass the time till fallout 4 :)
I completely agree about why you don't like it, I just love the game. It's a game for the fans of the series that grew up with the story and Kojimas wacky sense of humour. Those who pick it up for the first time won't understand a lot of the weird design choices. You're right it ain't a 10/10 I'd give it a 9.5/10 ;-)
+Yakubu 06 I have to agree with this. If you play the game for what it is, which is a Metal Gear game, a lot of the things Mack criticizes (the long cinematics, hiding in boxes, parachuting your horse) is what fans of the series expect.
+Yakubu 06 I've never played MGS before, and I didn't mind the prologue (although a straight cutscene would have been better, in my opinion - I really dislike having to hold a button down to keep the scene going). I'm also fine with the balloons and cardboard boxes and such. But, I'm about 15 hours in and it's getting real repetitive. I've already switched from stealth to Rambo mode to spice things up a bit. Considering I got it for "free" with my graphics card, I'm fine with the fun it has given me. But had I paid full price, I think I would've felt a bit stiffed.
Hard, no. Pointless, yes. There's as much of a point in holding down a button to keep a cutscene moving, as there is in having to hold down the play button when watching a movie. I.e. none whatsoever.
+Yakubu 06 I played the first couple of games on consoles and they were ok for being console games, but this is on a pc and as such, it's not very good....
13:00 You have got to be freaking kidding me... This scene alone puts the game off my list. It looks a lot like Sniper Elite 3 without the sniper rifles. Diabolical
There's an amazing game hidden away in here. My main issue, which I think alot of other people share is the game is padded out because it's missing the last big main mission and the pacing is odd at times which highlights other things which either got rush or are not flushed out enough. Id love to see more of the fox engine, I think it'd suit an RPG.
Although I bought this game and really love playing it, I just want to take the time to say thanks Mack for not following a trend and sticking to your opinion. Even though I disagree with a few of your points on MGSV I have to congratulate you on being a supremely honest games reviewer. Keep up the good work.
personally, I am loving this game - and I love metal gear. But I like this review, even though it is shitting on a game series that I love - I like seeing other peoples opinions, I might not agree with those reasons but people all have their opinions thanks Mack for the review and alternate perspective :)
+TheDrgustaf I feel the same as you except I do basically agree with everything Mack said yet I am still loving the game! The game is more than the sum of it's parts it seems because stealth/mission variety/AI are all very lackluster and it's very difficult to argue otherwise yet somehow it all comes together to hit me right in the fun bone.
+TheDrgustaf Well thank you for not being a stupid fanboy. It's obvious the game is well crafted and some care and love has been put into it. It's also obvious it suffers from quite steep flaws, some that are "by design" for the series and that people will either hate or love. Others feel more like bugs to me though... Overall, it's certainly is quite a decent game, maybe even very good if you are into the MGS series. But I don't feel it deserves the amount of 10's that have been given. Feels like no website want to upset the fans. People don't like being told that the game they are so hyped about isn't perfect.
+startide Considering most games reviewers have paid attention to and like the MGS series, they're more accepting of the conventional Kojima cutscenes and strange shit that goes on in the universe. That aside, the game is hugely lacking in AI and variety, I agree, but I hope mods would fix that. Having a more realistic AI would mean traversing Afghanistan without a helicopter (that takes fucking hours to take off...) would be a massive, massive pain in the ass gameplay-wise. I appreciate that the AI seems to be retarded at times, but I also appreciate that this is OPEN-WORLD. Why would a game with a 5 year development time have such shit AI when its predecessors weren't as bad? I think it really has to do with the open-world quality and pandering to the average player. Maybe we should have had a hardcore AI setting but you know Konami hates Kojima for dragging on the development too long and overspending. The game is simply incomplete. Metal Gear Online is a promised feature coming 2016 ffs, and then Camp Omega which was the MGSV:GZ area is also released in the future, although it's up to Konami to decide if they want to DLC it. GZ was supposed to be a free demo but Konami decided to charge people for it.
So so true, glad someone has said it. I bought it for cheap on a keysite and played 2 hours, doubt Ill ever play it again. 10/10 my ass, 6/10 is more realistic. Its a shame MGS used to be really good too.
Hype, rose-colored glasses, and casuals. That's what this game is trying to attract here. _As long as it has explosions and Metal Gear Solid in the title it's all good_
Mack, you're probably one of the only TH-camrs out there that are honest about games from the player's perspective, you won't blindly follow like the sheep of the gaming community today, you get your word out and no matter how much hate you receive, you are true. Take Mortal Kombat X for an example, it's just a reboot with a lot more fatalities and a few new characters. You are by far one of the most respectable people out there when it comes to reviewing and people should really open their eyes instead of looking at what IGN have rated these new games and hating on you. The gaming industry is going downhill for me if i'm honest.
I love you. And I love your observations. It is 2018 however and I am playing this game again. I'm liking it. Even though the AI is shit, the fighting is repetitive. The opening cutscene at the start WAS PAINFUL and Horrible and for God´s sake, everything you say on this video is right. Game is not that awesome. For some reason I am enjoying it basically because I love sneaking. But I have to agree with almost everything you said. Meanwhile IGN gives it a 10. Mack keep it up, you are the best reviewer in the entire TH-cam.
Mack is so right about this game, its complete shit. Konami greased so many hands to market this game as a 10, they literally held a private conference exclusively for journalists that would play ball.. It's a prime example of the corruption that goes on in this industry.
The illusion of refunding this game. The intro is one hour and thirty minutes and when it is done and you can finally play the game, you have only 30 minutes to decide. It is a solid sneaking game when all the on screen options are set off. But mack is right very repetitive. I am playing because, as a person who played all the MGS games even the very early nes games, I need to experience the story and see what happens. Definitive not a 10 or 9 game. And Ocelot doesn't shut his mouth, he must explain everything.
+hesam g its ok that he explains everything, havent you seen how many clueless twitch streamers there was? they didn't know how to cqc or sneak or anything
+Denzel Romero I give you a model of this game. A,B,C,D = game various states from start to finish A: start of the game B: Afghanistan C: Africa D: Ending a,b,c,d, e = various missions a: that boring long intro b: save somebody c: steal something d: kidnap someone e: blow something 1,2,3,4,5 = enemy camps and outposts A(a) -> B(in 1: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) -> C(in 1: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) -> D (in 2: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 2: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 3: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 3: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 4: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 4: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 5: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e ) (in 5: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e )
You identified a lot of my concerns that influenced me to not buy it at the onset. Thanks for confirming my concerns. I can live with the fantasy party balloons and immersion-breaking facets, but wonky controls and the repetitive sneaky gameplay just aren't for me. Thanks Mac.
To be fair: The Fulton device was used as a plot device in MGS3 already and explained. Basically you gain altitude until an airplane or copter collects the balloon with a certain maneuver. The balloon goes not into orbit like Mack said. And after 2 minutes the soldiers are working for you? Gets longer later on and especially if it comes to soldiers stolen in FOB-missions from other players. and I can only say "Come on!" to this one. Do you really want to wait real time hours or even days for your team at home to persuade the prisoners to follow you, the by lore most legendary badass soldier on the freaking planet? It's a game! Why overcomplicating things with certain durations of interrogation, torture and other persuasive methods? THIS would make people mad. It's a game design decision. Some see the reason for this, others don't. It saddens me a bit not to see Mack's reaction to the sickness later in the game. A part that made me mad since it drove you to solve a puzzle with the soldiers you got by that time.
This is why Mac is the best reviewer on TH-cam. He doesn't intentionally go against the grain because he's trying to be edgy. He does it because these new games coming out really are shit. People fall for every marketing gimmick presented and buy these underachieving games then refuse to acknowledge that said games are trash so they look for any excuse to defend it. Mac just tells it like it is. Lazy writing and baseless gameplay mechanics are not acceptable regardless of how many people buy the game.
The bells the bells 💚😉 ‘ten hours was enough’ yeah it gets super repetitive. Levelling up is such a grind too. It’s well overrated and I’m A big fan of the first two Metal Gears. The best versions imho.
Gotta say Mack I agree with what you said about the game getting repetitive and the AI being awful. I've gone into the Smasei Fort at least 7 times and 2 of them were times when I literally walked out after doing a mission in it then my side quest list would update and I'd have to turn around and go back in for another mission and the AI is so crap their pattern is super easy to learn so after going into the same place a couple times it's just a bore after awhile. I've just started capturing every base I enter and blowing up the comms dish, the anti air and the generator because just to make it interesting. Gameplay wise it's as average as it can get, I just hope the story makes up for it which it should do since it's an MGS game!!! Of course the sad fanboys will disagree in every single way with the valid points you've made because they all want Hideo to be their dad!!
+Senon yes, and I've also bought and played the game! The flaws pointed out aren't even valid when compared to the positives! The game is huge with loads to do! This review is completely inaccurate in my opinion and is looking to pick holes in a game for the sake of it! This is the first MGS game I've ever played and in that respect I'm not a fan boy! If anything, you're the fanboy! Taking exactly what is said in this review and holding it! How about you buy the game, play it, then criticise?
+Senon oh and also, this game is made for pure entertainment! Who actually cares if there's a box? It increases the comedic value of the game highlighting the quirky sense of humour put into the game which is very original! Unlike any other open world title, this game offers a lot! Yes there's not civilian AI, but who cares? They are just and inconvenience in Far Cry which is also one of the worst series of games I've played! The first 2 were entertaining, the rest were very poor and almost identical! How am I blind for opening my eyes to a title I've never played before and for being honest about my experience being only around 14% in!
Well hey, if you don't like Mack's opinion, look at all the Steam reviews, including mine, we all find the game brilliant. I have no clue why Mack doesn't but it is his opinion
Worth A Buy Kojima is known for his crazy sense of humour in his Metal Gear Solid games, so all of that crazy stuff is generally accepted nowadays and everyone loves it. And once you get into the African map it opens up more than in Afghanistan. The story isn't top notch but there is so much detail in the mechanics and it's just fun to play. etc.
+robert Gamechicken I've played the game for 41 hours and i've also played previous metal gear games. Well i think this game is abit.. overrated. I think the gameplay in this game is better than previous mgs but i don't think its a 10/10 game
Even if it has a linear story it still expands the lore of metal gear from the story that started many many years ago so it's the games cause of nostalgia that causes greatness not being a fan boy but someone who follows the story
This video is hard to watch. Not because it's bad, it's Mack's usual. But because I've watched 10+ hours of people playing MGSV and enjoyed it and perhaps it was the hype everyone had. But now watching this Mack has a point, if it wasn't MGSV it wouldn't be seen as amazing. It's honestly a lot like Splinter Cell Blacklist and that didn't do well. Regardless I think I'll enjoy the game but I think I would have enjoyed it better had I not has Mack clear my glasses off a bit so to say
+Char Aznable Ubisoft doesn't see 2 million units as a success. Not when they can put that money towards Assassin's Creed and sell 3x as many units. When discussing the game they said it underperformed
+Dakota Barrett Why? Why watching videos of others playing games and biased your own opinion? Play the game see for yourself. I cant understand why people watching other people playing video games. Is like watching someone watching a movie. Sorry what's the point? Yes, if it's a very hard core logical puzzle game, it's understandable to search for a tip or too but to watch mindless hand holding games like this is just pure waste of time. "Reviews" is good but "let's play" is bullshit. How can you enjoy that? Explain. I want to know. Please be polite and dont insult. I just want to understand psychological point of view "why people like watching other people playing games" and not play them myself.
+Char Aznable Agreed. It was critically well received like Conviction, it was Double Agent that was either regarded as average or bad. So thumbs down Dakota for misleading people.
I'm a big fan of this review, mostly because it points out the glaring issues in the game (A.I, open world structure, etc.), but there are a few things I take issue with in your review: 1. Though you probably couldn't have known because you haven't played the earlier games, Big Boss/Snake are basically legends on the battlefield because of their ability to sneak in, stealthily take out everybody in their path, and get out with ease. The cornerstone of the MGS gameplay is the "No-alert no-kill" run, in which you're able to methodically go through a base, take out everybody near your objective, and leave without anybody knowing that you were there. The ranking system heavily favors stealth, but the most important factor is time. If you stealth through the whole thing, don't alert anybody, and get out with your objective, there's almost no way you're not getting an S-Rank for your efforts. But if you're efficient, only kill when you need to, complete your objective and rescue prisoners, you can also get an S-rank pretty easily. I've done missions both stealthily and guns blazing and managed to get S-ranks both ways. 2. Another issue you have is with the Fulton system. With Fulton (and the entire idea of Mother Base), the concept was explained better in Portable Ops, created on the PSP way back in 2006. The very first time you take a soldier from the battlefield, a cutscene plays of you trying to convince a soldier to join your side and fight against the main antagonist of the game. At first the soldier claims he has loyalty to the antagonist, but Snake convinces him that he should be loyal to himself, and question whether he should fight for his country even if it goes against his personal beliefs. While I'm paraphrasing quite a bit, it takes quite a bit of convincing for soldiers to work for you (even having to lock them up until they agree to join). As for how it fits into gameplay, you could have it one of two ways; you could try to convince every soldier you capture that you're fighting the just cause with some sort of minigame, or it could happen automatically while you're out playing the actual game. In gameplay terms, I think the former was the better option. 3 Without a doubt, enemies need a much higher field of vision, especially at night. But I honestly think part of the "open world" idea that Kojima was going for was not to deal with every enemy encounter possible. Imagine if while riding on your horse in a mountain pass there was no way to get through an outpost besides dealing with the guards every single time you went through. I'd much rather have a slightly weaker vision range so you could eke by on your horse without breaking up your mission flow/forcing you into an encounter. Keyword here being SLIGHTLY. The current range is WAY too low.
God dammit Mack, the horse with the balloon killed me; "then it deploys it's own ballon and flys off, 10/10 masterpiece" i love the metal gear series, but you clearly show us that it's not like the old ones, and that's pretty sad.
One of your first reviews I completely disagree with... claiming the only appeal to this game is to fanboys of the series is ridiculous. You obviously get much more out of the story and the characters if you're already familiar with the series as it fills in a gap of time through the mythology but familiarity with the series isn't necessary at all for enjoyment. I'm sure the tech issues (poor mouse&keyboard config and option settings) can or will be patched... the release was moved up a few weeks for PC so that's a fair trade-off. I've honestly rarely found myself bored in nearly 50 hours of gameplay without even touching multiplayer (yea the long intro was a bit painful though.) The amount of mini-games and extra gameplay options that unlocks as you progress adds a lot of nice variety... and there's a ton relatively undocumented extra features to unlock as you progress. It might not be "true" open-world but enough so for the context of the gameplay requires, plus it integrates elements from many genres... RTS/base-building/staff-management/sim/etc. The game doesn't "baby" you too much through all the extra features of the game and you're left to your own creativity to discover them (tons of people didn't realize you can use your binoculars and call on intel hints on many objects in the world.) The AI I found to be significantly better than the likes of FarCry, still not perfect but enemies have a much broader range of activity and responses... as you progress they do become significantly more challenging, soldiers with higher ranges of skill/stats will respond much more intelligently to certain situations when you progress further. It's definitely a game for those with patience though. If you enjoy contemplative thought-out or improvised tactical gameplay as opposed to mindless run and gun action it's definitely a rewarding game. It's basically Arma with a story, characters and actual stuff to do. Btw you can get higher scores while also slaughtering an entire control post. You'd have to destroy the communications hubs to make sure they don't call alerts and kill most without them spotting you or causing an alert/combat status. You're rewarded mainly on stealth&tactics... not kills. You can still kill and do well, you just have to be more clever about it. And yes the cardboard box is an inside joke. If you hadn't realized the game doesn't take itself overly seriously... you can train your horse to shit on command. The multiplayer is also *not* pay-to-win. You have one free "FOB" (base) in PVP multiplayer. Each base in itself requires a lot of micromanagement and more resources and more (non-purchasable) work to keep operating. The "micro-transaction" (actually "mega-transactions) only allow for purchase of additional bases, which I doubt other than the most hardcore players will want to do. There's a daily login bonus which includes the "coins" required to purchase additional FOBs for free, play for long enough you can get the same thing free. Upgrades and equipment, etc still requires the regular game currency so player's aren't given any majour gameplay advantages. The different areas in which you can build your base are also balanced by differing but roughly equal resource availability, so there's also no advantage given to the more expensive "real estate" in the game. You got so many _basic_ facts about the game wrong it makes me wonder if we've even been playing the same game here. You had a bias in your head "all the big reviewers raved about this so I better do my damned well best to find something terrible to say," anything to nit pick on... even if if you had to speculate on a ton of stuff you had no clue about or any experience with.
I really enjoyed this game. I was disappointed by the story but. Everything else was great. If you'd like to make it harder (and actually not boring) turn off reflex mode, don't use sneaking suit. It is quite the duficult and fun experience.
God I wish I'd seen this review before I bought this pile of shit...I was expecting it to be awe inspiring based on what I was hearing. Then I started playing it and I was like, ok...when...when does this get good? The answer is never...it never gets good. Nothing makes sense, there's absolutely no immersion, the AI is dogshit, and it's repetitive as hell. Mack is dead on with this review.
the only honest mgs review ive seen, well done sir, well done. if this is the quality we can expect in games from now on then im just gonna stop playing games. its mediocre and extremely boring, but people love it....i dont understand.
I totally agree with u... I'm not a fan of MSG, but i was hyped for this because I love stealth games. But after 10 hours or so of gameplay, I got tired of it. Suuper repetitive, I got tired of seeing the same shit over and over again. It's fun, everything is customizable, but the gameplay just bores me.
Hello Mack. Oh lord that party ballooned horse cracked me up :) Please, would you be kind enaugh to tell me which music do you use in you videos (the main cool/soft one) ? I like it. Thank you.
Obviously reviews are subjective . But I’m no metal gear fan boy I normally never play stealth games and this is the only metal gear game Iv ever played . And I really enjoyed it a lot
To get the most out of this game you have to have played the series, and more importantly you have to have an appreciation and understanding of hideo kojima. His storytelling, directing, cutscenes ,gameplay styles and humour are what makes Metal gear the series it is! To play this game as your entry point to the series doesn't do it justice I'm afraid! As someone who's played them all this game from what I've played so far is easily a fitting conclusion to the franchise!
I agree with a lot of your reviews, but this one I do not! I feel like you have to skate triple A titles just because they're triple A! Most details have been overlooked in this review! For example, soldiers are equipped with night vision of you carry out more night missions, and soldiers have helmets if you often go for head shots! This is then countered by sending your soldiers on missions to sabotage supplies! I'm NOT a metal gear fan boy and this is the first I've played! It gives you a lot more freedom when completing missions than any other game! Far Cry is all about traveling from A to B then shooting people who are attacking, then going back to A and shooting more attackers! And then that over and over without you being able to play missions the way you want! Metal Gear also accepts the fact that it's a game, so plays with that idea which allows the game to feature unrealistic mechanics like the balloon, but that's what makes it its own game!
+Millwaterj AAA games are made for the mainstream audience. Theses games need to be easy and simple so that the majority will like them. Eg: Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight Combat !
***** Not bad, but not excellent. And the other MGS games are good just because nostalgia googles can't be taken off. I am not saying that they are wrong, it's just some people might think otherwise !
Doctor Thrax Well I personally, being new to the series, find this game to be better than any other open-world title! Far Cry is way too basic with the main objective always being 'climb and capture this tower to see what animals are around'! Every Ubisoft open world game is guilty of that, all incredibly repetitive and alike one another
***** This game isn't bad at all. I only have a few problems with it and I haven't played any other MGS game ever either DUN DUN DUUUUN . I feel very Bipolar when I comment on YT. First comment is somewhat like ''OMG, this game is so mainstream ! '' then I'm like ''It's excellent ! ''. Now, about our reviewer here, I think he is too old for this AAA shit. It won't better, sorry Mac :c
I respect your opinion, Mack. If you want your stealth games to be serious, difficult and immersive and you hate long cutscenes, you're going to thumb down a MGS game. Simple as that. I love Kojima's style, but it's not for everyone.
im a huge Metal Gear fan. I personally enjoyed this game. one thing i think that needs to be pointed out is... this game suffered from the drama behind the scenes of the creator getting screwed by the company who only cares about money and not how fun the game is. This game is pretty much what is happening to all our games right now and why we get AAA bullshit crammed down our mouths. Konami ruined this franchise. Case in point the new Metal gear coming out without the creator involved in his own creation. Mack i would hate to see you buy the new Metal gear game coming up and wasting your money, but i would love to see you rip Konami a new arsehole.
Love this review. Always great. There's actually a lot of cons you didn't hit on since you didn't get that far or stick around for how Pay to Win the FOBs became. Bet it'd be much angrier.
I agree with you regarding the first hour of the game... What were they even thinking? If this is their understanding of a prologue and immersion then it's really sad
I bought the game on release due to the overhype and I regreted it in 5 hours, when I realised I had experienced the full game in 3 hours. Repetitive, squared maps with no story, discoverables, side quests and secrets. A semi-open world that couldn't cope with it's time nor was able to reward players for trying new things. If you want a sandbox buy anything else, really. I wish I discovered this channel back then.
Absolutely loved this game. I played over 100 hours on this game and loved it. Your criticisms with this game are actually legit. I think you will either like it or you won't. Your comment about the opening scene, man if the rest of the game was like that, this would have been an epic game. I was blown away by the start of the game, then let down with the rest personally. But I loved the MGS series. They are wacky and fun and interesting. But I think you got to like the MGS series. I found your review interesting actually. I reckon you could be right, if this wasn't an MGS game, then potentially it may not have got such great reviews. You were talking about side ops as being the story which is not true. The sides can suck, but it's the missions that make the game. And even then some of the missions are just completely irrelevant. Then the good ones are not brilliant. I loved the game, it has a lot of strong merits, but it doesn't compare to the earlier MGS in terms of story, however loved the mechanics and just dicking around, but would have rathered a more solid story than the other stuff. So I can see both sides of the argument, if you're not a die hard fan, then you may not enjoy it. The flip side is that Ground Zeroes was acutally amazing!
I'm not a MGS fan I wasn't born at that time and I've always had a PC. Now I realise this isn't a good game. It's somehow a linear open world with a dodgy plot and some annoying features such as the helicopter extraction. However for some I reason I just really like this game and would happily buy it again
Absolutely agree with this review. Not a bad game but extremely repetitive. Many design flaws in the menues, boss battles, story pacing, AI, mission design. Does not deserve it´s praise. It´s just decent.
See i likes MGS 1 2 and 3, 4 was 'Meh' didn't bother with it, and then geound zero i pkayed it for about five minutes after a session and couldn't be arsed!
Love all your reviews mack, and appreciate your honesty, and unbiased opinions, but i reckon this game was/is bloody fantastic. Different strokes for different folks i suppose. Out of curiosity what is your favourite stealth game?
what the fuck is wrong with these guards, seriously they see like 15 yards in front of them.... But I guess making guards that actually see you is too challenging to the player
Spot. On. I've played every metal gear game since MGS 1. This is dull and boring. The only time I felt excited was during the sniper fight with quiet. That's it. And I played the whole thing, all 50 missions. Kojima screwed up; he spent all his time building his own engine on an ego trip (why not just buy one) and forgot that it's about how the game plays. MGS 1 had the story immersion. MGS 2 was a giant cut scene, but it was deep; the small maps were dense. MGS 3 was all about the gameplay, and the survival elements were great. You felt alone. MGS 4 had the octo camo and had the story around snake growing old and dying. And it felt like you were in a war zone. MGS 5 has a shit intro, an empty map, no story driven narrative and repetitive missions. Side ops are a grind. Missions are a grind. They even had to put in repeats of earlier missions; there aren't 50 missions, there like 40 with difficulty variants on already done missions. To get the big reveal you have to play the ENTIRE PROLOGUE WHEN YOU CRAWL THROUGH THE HOSPITAL AGAIN. It feels like they spent all their time on the engine and none in the actual content... Don't pay more than a tenner for it.
Mac the crack soldier you were talking about: I was literally out of bullets when i started the mission and rode to the area. I sneaked to the back of them and started strangeling them, I was strangling the guy next to cracky and he didnt even so much as blink an eye. It was like: " aw you strangling that guy well then go on and enjoy i will just gonna ignore you till my turn comes"
I can understand your points from an outside perspective, but being a fan since the 90s. it's easy for us to understand and follow why the game is the way it is and why it's so positively looked at. I respect your opinion though, we need more brutal reviews.
I spent around 200 hours getting 100%. It was a bit of fresh air comsidering that all the games nowadays pretty much hold your hand and playing on rails. MGS5 actually lets u complete missions in different ways. You also get a great sense of achievement when you complete them in pure stealth. This is definitely in the top 3 AAA game of 2015.
I really loved this game. It was totally my cup of tea, and I was happy with it. But you make some excellent points, and I totally agree with you on a lot of this. Despite having loved this game myself, I must respect the fact you gave the game a fair chance and make a good argument against the hype. This is about one of the most honest negative reviews I've ever seen for a game as highly rated as this one.
You dont need to do the microtransactions. At all... In fact, if you did pay to build more FOBs (which WAS in the game since day 1 - PC) then its just going to cause more problems with more stuff/staff getting stolen, and more changes to be invaded in general.. Also, you earn MB coins every other day.
I think this is a bit harsh. You cant give Mad max a thumb up which is not a bad game but nothing different to what we have already seen. Atleast this is doing something a bit different. Yea its crazy, balloons and all but the combat is decent and it lets you play it out as you please. The AI actually wise up to your attacks, start wearing helmets... tbh, I couldnt give a turd about how points are scored. I just want to play it as i feel and if that feels rewarding which it does, id have to say its fun and decent. Iv basically been storming camps and shooting people in the face and body and I quite like it. I kinda like stalking them from afar and planning my route in to kill them. The gadgets and gizmos will just enhance my murderous rampage and for those reasons, id recommend giving this a try.
before starting the clip. "ahh this game i have heard very good things about". starts video. mack starts to pling on the bell slowely. "i got a bad feeling about this"...
+PrehistoricWombat btw great review mack thank you
+PrehistoricWombat I know... it reminded me of Jaws
+CaleyMcKibbin he uses alot of stupid points and nitpicky things to bash this title as he does other titles..
Omni Matt
I don't play any of these games.
What game has credits after each mission?! Talk about patting yourself on the back, Konami!
+Beauweir *Hideo Kojima
+facebeeotch No it's done because they wanted it to be like a tv show. Hence why when you're entering the level it says things like "Guest starring" and "Featuring enemies" etc.
+facebeeotch Pull the lever!!
+Beauweir You can literally skip them
Even though I love MGS5, I like your honesty with your reviews. You've earned a sub
+Internetzspacezshipz
I see where you're coming from.
+mind yobiznz Woops I meant Arkham Knight.
Just want to mention that the review was done over three days, the first part when I said 10 hours play was only up to the point where I recorded the first part. I did another 10 hours before I recorded the rest of the review so total time played on this review is 20 hours.
+Worth A Buy if tho you are wrong about many things and i disagree/agree with some of your points... thx for making me laugh
love the whole i bet 100 foot mech will come in XD.... let me give you a hint. a Metal Gear is a 100 foot mech great video
I have to agree with this completely it's not a good game and doesn't deserve the scores it's got
+Worth A Buy Will you be uploading your game play on your other channel or was 20 hours~ too much? Thanks for the video, spot on like always!
This is why I'm subbed to you Mack. The one reviewer who has a working brain.
But the most moronic of his points clearly goes to "you get less points if you kill everyone in 2 minutes, not like real life hurr durr"
And again, in this instance too, if they did it the other way around, he would have complained about that.
If YOU had any braincells still working, you'd see the pattern by now, and you'd see that the "unpopular opinion" is basically just a marketing trick.
The Algerian stop talking. Just ... I don't have time for this.
Razor Blazor Don't worry, I had no intention of dragging this out any longer.
It's a bit funny to see you acting like you're the one who'd be wasting his time, though.
Respect giving such an honest review of game with Hard core maniac fans.
+Alejandro Capitan The hard core maniac fans are hating on the game the most.
Brian Ingram Lol that's probably true.
But it's that's not REALISTIC so this game is SHIT."
You can say the same about literally EVERY ♥♥♥♥ing stealth game with a point system. They just give higher points for the more difficult way to play. It takes more skill and planning to not be seen and get the objective done quick so obviously will get more points for it.
God...
You know it fucking shows that you dislike stealth games or at least hate ones with a score system. And people really think you're "unbiased"?
""Konami, Konamiiii, FUCK KONAMI" *ding*
LOL
I absolutely love your honesty. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to find a youtuber writing reviews for games, who isn't being paid off by developers and publishers and such. I only wish you had a team so you could have time to cover more games. Thank you for this Channel.
+Westley Farmer It's not easy either, knowing your review is going to cause a shit storm and lose you subs when it's your job is a horrible situation, then you brace for the torrent of personal abuse that comes in by the hundred, it's shit tbh but I value my integrity above my channel. Cheers for the support.
+Worth A Buy You do you bro! opinions are just that, opinions. everyone is entitled to their own.
I love this guy. A guy with a brain.
the "Party Balloon" that he is talking about is called the Fulton Recovery Device or "Skyhook"
a balloon goes up attached to a cable a plane catches the cable with a hook and pulls the cargo on board
It was originally developed in WW2 but was unfit for use with personnel so they used it for cargo only
by the Cold War when the game is based it was further developed and now suitable for use by personnel for fast extraction from hot zones the CIA used in countries in South America
don't believe me just search it there's plenty of documentaries and videos showing it being used
of course it has been a bit gamified in MGSV but it is real
***** never underestimate the advantages to having adrenaline junkies and crazy people on this earth :p
***** why would I go and do a stupid thing like that? You know I'm right
+Recoil Gaming Exploits Oh, that's really nice. Does the Stockholm syndrome comes bundled with the Skyhook or do you need a separate device for that?
+Recoil Gaming Exploits Yeah, skyhook is real, but look how it is implemented here. Balloon does not travel that far into air to connect to the plane.. It just teleports
krish698 I fail to see how Skyhook or the Fulton Recovery Device has any direct relevance to Stockholm Syndrome
this review is spot on.
my dog could probably infiltrate the bases in this game unseen (and i don't mean for real, i mean using his little paws on the controller) its so fkin easy (even on "hard")
the story isn't even a story, it's just a miss match of random shit that makes no sense.
the voice acting is abysmal
the Ai is beyond abysmal
the base management stuff is over complicated and boring.
it is linear (open world my arse) all terrain so far is valleys with roads running down them, you can't go over the mountains, you can't freely move around the world, you are forced down these narrow empty paths to your objective. (im unsure if this will be different once you get to Africa but im highly sceptical)
the other night i was going past a base and there were 2 guys standing about 3 feet away from each other, I "sneaked" up to them making more noise than a barrel full of maracas and grabbed one guy, interrogated him, knocked him out while his friend was on some other fkin planet (he sure wasn't in the same game world as me and my new friend) comical to say the least
the controls are beyond awful (even with a controller).
I also have reverted to the same gameplay as you. alert every c**t although i usually do it by using C4 on their radar dish :)
its the only way to get any fun out of this game
+chemicalBR0 You are a deluded hater that sucks at games and just hate everything in the world including kittens. Sorry just getting in before the fan boys to save them having to tell you themselves ;)
Worth A Buy
the weird thing is that despite all its shortcomings there are still enjoyable parts in the game. at least it will pass the time till fallout 4 :)
This game is overrated ..You mack are honest
How tf is this a 10?!?!?!
I only wish I had seen this review before buying this game, I agree with everything you say in the review and can't believe it was receiving 10/10s :(
I completely agree about why you don't like it, I just love the game.
+Frode Hauge yes because pressing a button is such a hard task
Hard, no. Pointless, yes. There's as much of a point in holding down a button to keep a cutscene moving, as there is in having to hold down the play button when watching a movie. I.e. none whatsoever.
+Yakubu 06
I played the first couple of games on consoles and they were ok for being console games, but this is on a pc and as such, it's not very good....
I don't think I've come across a reviewer as real as this guy. Subbed
13:00 You have got to be freaking kidding me... This scene alone puts the game off my list. It looks a lot like Sniper Elite 3 without the sniper rifles. Diabolical
because the kids of todays generation are all about the superficial. It it looks pretty then they want it
+MeshsCorner Games have not really progressed much since Hidden and Dangerous tbh
Ahhhh, what a game!
I'm a fanboy, MGS2 and 3 are some of my favourite games and I absolutely agree with everything you said
I had fun with this game but can't agree with the super hype its given
I was gonna get it today.u saved me from spending $60
personally, I am loving this game - and I love metal gear. But I like this review, even though it is shitting on a game series that I love - I like seeing other peoples opinions, I might not agree with those reasons but people all have their opinions
thanks Mack for the review and alternate perspective :)
I'm finding it very fun, I haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time
+TheDrgustaf Well thank you for not being a stupid fanboy.
I am definitely finding things wrong with it, but every game has problems :p
Maybe the 1st one back in the day yeah, now that was a classic
So...many...fanboys.... Thanks mac, keep up the good work.
Great review, Im about 20 hours in and still waiting for this 10/10 game all the big reviewers are talking about.
THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one who KNEW this game was bad.
i knew this game was trash, from the second they released the 30 dollar demo. Created by a bunch of arrogant fork tongued sheisters.
I imagine Mack looks like the old guy from breaking bad in real life. With all that bell ringing.
So glad I discovered your channel, mate. Love your honesty.
14:55 Holy shit I think I pissed myself. So true of many "stealth" games.
I am still watching this review again today, probably your best WAB ever Mack. Love it so very much :-)
This game sucked . I loved mgs 3 and 4 . I put 30 hours into this game and i could not finish it . I do not consider this a true mgs game
"Make sure it's not next to your horse." XXXXXXXXDDDDDD
The illusion of refunding this game. The intro is one hour and thirty minutes and when it is done and you can finally play the game, you have only 30 minutes to decide. It is a solid sneaking game when all the on screen options are set off. But mack is right very repetitive. I am playing because, as a person who played all the MGS games even the very early nes games, I need to experience the story and see what happens. Definitive not a 10 or 9 game. And Ocelot doesn't shut his mouth, he must explain everything.
+hesam g You can play a drinking game with how many times Ocelot keeps explaining every single FUCKING THING
+hesam g its ok that he explains everything, havent you seen how many clueless twitch streamers there was? they didn't know how to cqc or sneak or anything
+Pendragonthegreat I'll be definitely a loser in that drinking game.
Any game gets repetitive
+Denzel Romero
I give you a model of this game.
A,B,C,D = game various states from start to finish
A: start of the game
B: Afghanistan
C: Africa
D: Ending
a,b,c,d, e = various missions
a: that boring long intro
b: save somebody
c: steal something
d: kidnap someone
e: blow something
1,2,3,4,5 = enemy camps and outposts
A(a) -> B(in 1: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) -> C(in 1: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) -> D
(in 2: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 2: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&)
(in 3: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 3: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&)
(in 4: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&) (in 4: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e &&)
(in 5: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e ) (in 5: 3*a, 3*b, 3*c, 3*d 3*e )
This video was sent to me by a friend.... I love this video.... have a sub
It’s well overrated and I’m
A big fan of the first two Metal Gears.
18 people thumbed down because of a subjective review...good god.
Mac, you are SO right. Sorry fanboys. No way you can honestly refute these observations. Expert review.
monsterMike62 game is still fun though so it doesn't matter , I don't even really like metal gear but I spent 140 hours playing this
OwnageIsIncluded Jerking off while forgetting to pause the game doesn't count as gameplay
HYAAAK!!! Good one
I think its more telling that I knew what you're review was going to be before I even loaded the video.
I live and buy according to your reviews ...100% accurate ...200% hilarious ...you are the best
Then you are missing out on a masterpiece…
+Millwaterj Did you even watch the video? Blind fanboyism at its best.
Did you watch the video you dumb fuck ?Senon
I beat the game and I liked it however the beginning took to long
Well hey, if you don't like Mack's opinion, look at all the Steam reviews, including mine, we all find the game brilliant. I have no clue why Mack doesn't but it is his opinion
+robert Gamechicken I have just presented 24 minutes of reasons why, did you even watch the video?
Worth A Buy Kojima is known for his crazy sense of humour in his Metal Gear Solid games, so all of that crazy stuff is generally accepted nowadays and everyone loves it. And once you get into the African map it opens up more than in Afghanistan. The story isn't top notch but there is so much detail in the mechanics and it's just fun to play. etc.
+robert Gamechicken I've played the game for 41 hours and i've also played previous metal gear games. Well i think this game is abit.. overrated. I think the gameplay in this game is better than previous mgs but i don't think its a 10/10 game
Worth A Buy
I am also new to the series but I found it amazing
+robert Gamechicken i would give mgs 5 tpp a 8/10. Good game but definately not masterpiece.
I like how you can use a balloon to extract enemies but when you need to extract a hostage you actually have to take him/her with you. It's brilliant.
+Dakota Barrett I am only hyped for fallout, dishonored, mirrors edge, mafia series. I really liked blacklist, it is a good game.
+Farai Gandiya I think this guy summed it all up. Thanks
I like Metal gear 5 more then GTA 5.
What's with the bell?
+LelBron welcome to WAB =)
I'm a big fan of this review, mostly because it points out the glaring issues in the game (A.I, open world structure, etc.), but there are a few things I take issue with in your review:
God dammit Mack, the horse with the balloon killed me; "then it deploys it's own ballon and flys off, 10/10 masterpiece"
i love the metal gear series, but you clearly show us that it's not like the old ones, and that's pretty sad.
Too many shits given about the unrealistic aspects of the game.
The game doesn't "baby" you too much through all the extra features of the game and you're left to your own creativity to discover them (tons of people didn't realize you can use your binoculars and call on intel hints on many objects in the world.)
The AI I found to be significantly better than the likes of FarCry, still not perfect but enemies have a much broader range of activity and responses... as you progress they do become significantly more challenging, soldiers with higher ranges of skill/stats will respond much more intelligently to certain situations when you progress further.
Mod the game with hardcore mod and turn the hud off and its an amazing game
The only reviews worth watching on the whole of youtube!! Keep up the only Honest reviews on youtube.
Hello Mack. Oh lord that party ballooned horse cracked me up :)
Please, would you be kind enaugh to tell me which music do you use in you videos (the main cool/soft one) ? I like it.
Thank you.
Obviously reviews are subjective . But I’m no metal gear fan boy I normally never play stealth games and this is the only metal gear game Iv ever played . And I really enjoyed it a lot
An honest truthful review.
+scott crockett Yawn
Titius Bode good point well made..yawn
Doctor Thrax So Metal Gear is bad because it breaks the conventions of being 'simple'?
It won't better, sorry Mac :c
keep fighting the good fight, mac!
spot on review!
this is the best, most honest review i have have listened to in my life. well done Mack you did good
I respect your opinion, Mack.
Bet it'd be much angrier.
i was trying to watch a lets play video, and i couldnt get past the hospital part. good review mack
I agree with you regarding the first hour of the game... What were they even thinking? If this is their understanding of a prologue and immersion then it's really sad
"Go play Call of Duty!!!1"
Classic fanboy comment. Fuck logic and reason, right?
AWFULCOLD MINER it's the first mgs game i've played and it's bloody great. Mack says it's easy? I'd like to see him s rank some of the later missions
Absolutely agree with this review. Not a bad game but extremely repetitive. Many design flaws in the menues, boss battles, story pacing, AI, mission design. Does not deserve it´s praise. It´s just decent.
You clearly don't know how to upgrade and approach the enemies. Mission design is perfect, it's a fuckin war game dude.
Thanks for the honest and unbiased review Mack, keep it up!
Out of curiosity what is your favourite stealth game?
at the speed your horse took off with the party balloon its probably near Jupiter by the time you reach your base.
what the fuck is wrong with these guards, seriously they see like 15 yards in front of them.... But I guess making guards that actually see you is too challenging to the player
This is one of those games that definitely coughed up the payola HARD.
Spot.
I bought the game because it's not afraid to be silly, actually.
Gameplay over gritty realism.
I actually *like* having fun.
Agreed the first 60-90mins is utter utter rubbish, but it does bet better IMO, but no where near the 10/10 it keeps getting.
