Its the sound of defeat. No matter how many times sounds had been called, nothing has changed in the AAA gaming industry at all save for one or two every year. The golden age of AAA gaming is over. Mack here is probably wondering if he should continue reviewing new AAA games ever again; at least the indies are still worth a look now and then. This is the first game I have ever played that has made me feel alienated. I am only 29, but this game made me feel so out of touch. Felt like I was amongst TH-cam hype merchants and TikTok influencers. Also, the radio storyline that tries to justify illegal street racing as an art form. Fuck straight off with that.
Let me tell you, I'm 22 and I felt the same way. Nobody talks like this IRL, not even 'the kids'. Idk how a game can be so out of touch with the dialogue. At this point I don't know if they are just trying to mock / make fun of the current online social culture, but this is not the way to do it. It's just cringe. Like what is that "BRO BRO BROOOOOO BROOO" shit, come on people... That being said, I do think this is the best NFS game that has come out in recent years. Driving physics feel better than the last games and much more of a challenge. Gameplay is solid fun in my opinion. For $20-$30 it's a solid game worth playing. At $70 however it's hard to recommend.
@@Mark_dj86 when you do a grip build, turn off drift entry and turn the dialogue down to 0 its actually grand. Much better than the latest games anyways. Cloaked for the effects pretty much works too, just wish i could turn effects off for AI drivers too
Not since Battlefield 2042 have I seen such cringeworthy dialogue. I genuinely can't tell if the developers did it as some type of misplaced meta-joke or if it was just written by people who have never had any type of human interaction.
I would have more fun playing the original NFS game on PS1 than this shite. That game had high speed country roads, cop cars that hide out on the side of the road and wait for you to speed by so they can engage, crunching car metal sounds when you crash, cars that flip and roll when you crash versus indestructible bumper cars, etc. It really is sad how far the NFS games have fallen from grace.
I don't think there has been a game that you've liked in a while Mack, such a shame this year has had so many disappointments. You've taught me to never pre-order because it seems that the industry is plagued with bullshit and lies to sell as much product as possible, hiding so much until release. 3:45 is what we all came for! My best mate had the audacity to try to tell me this game is good after he played a couple hours of the 10 hour trial on Xbox. I knew you'd review it though so just waited because I'd feel ripped off even playing a trial version I reckon.
I actually found it grand. You can turn off that brake to drift shite, full grip build and then the handling is actually decent. The music is fucking horrendous though and i had to turn the dialogue off entirely. Somehow they heard the dialogue in Forza Horizon 5 and thought we'll make it even more cringy.

We should have stopped buying racing games back in the late 90's/early 00's when car manufacturers told the game devs that "oh no, you can't have vehicle deformation and destruction on OUR brand, that would make us look bad". And this is where it slowly led us (ofc together with other issues, but yeah that one really grinds my gears).
Graphics are okay to me but issue that i have is the character models being cell shaded. It does not look good at all when all the rest of the models are normally rendered. It's like when you take a 4K texture and apply it to a single object in an old CS 1.6 map. Does it stand out ? Yes. But it looks totally out of place.
I'm not a huge racing fan but my friend is. Underground is his favourite and he hates the newer ones(apparently heat is just "ok" though). From the ones I've played, I really liked Hot pursuit 2 and Carbon.
Although I agree, I would say they are not bad in this game. They can be properly challenging sometimes, although that is mostly due to the healthbar feature... If it didn't have the healthbar it would be much less of a pain, and be much more enjoyable.
I last played Most Wanted 2005 and the cop chases were cool. Can you recommend any newer NFS that has close to that kind of fun in terms of police chases?

That dialog is if someone who isolated themselves from society in a fallout bunker in the 60's came out of that bunker in the late 90's for a forgettable Brendan Frasier movie, then went back in, then, got back out, watched 4 tik tok's, then watched the entire library of Jaystation videos while sniffing bath salts and then decided to write some dialog like what they think talking is like for younger adults. I remember when I made the mistake of buying a "remaster" of NFS Most Wanted. That was the worst mistake of a $5 discount buy I've made. I was expecting, you know, a remaster of the 2k5 original with, maybe a new sound track because licensing. How how how naive I was. The largest catch for the OG was "wreck the shit out of the cops and the other cars and try to get away to find a garage to lay low and build up your car as you pump up your street cred". It was, imo, brilliant. Having some of the most important aspects of NFS, while also updating things a bit and given the game a new... spin... Was it better than Hot Pursuit, IDK, I'll admit I never played Hot Pursuit because I was too busy at that time playing the main games and test drive. It was good one way or the other. Then I loaded up NFS Most Wanted's "remake" and Oh dear gods... WTF did I just buy? Everything totally different, the controls horeshit with a very difficult trek ahead for anyone having the audacity to have a gamepad to play the game like the OG was played, and OFC what EA game from that time wouldn't be complete without further gamepad complications due to them adding their own shitty overlay which conflicted with Steam's decent overlay which then interfered with the game actually realizing a gamepad was plugged in. Then, within a few seconds of taking control of the car I'm made very well aware that I can "connect with friends at any time", yeah, I don't have friends, I pride myself on not having any friends, IDGAF, but, then I realize "Oh, this is also the menu for the cosmetic shop which OFC has IAP and OFC means that one of the OG concepts for the source game no longer applies (earning money in game to paint your car), but, worse, I realized that there were no more garages, you just open that same menu and click a button and boom, instant magical engine upgrade. What did it for me though, that was horrible as is, but, what REALLLY did it for me is when I clipped a curve sharp, swerved through obstacles like light posts seamlessly on a drift, and t-boned the car I was racing. In the OG game, in most races, you do that the car is out and all you've got to do is finish the race, or, in other modes they'll have a massive delay until the car can respawn. In this one? I t-boned them, swerved back in lane and thought I was getting ready to lap them, and, due to the wonderful magical powers of rubber-banding, they were magically in front of me. This threw me off, I hit a light post and thought I was screwed, and, due to the magical powers of rubberbanding, I was put ahead of that car in the race for whatever reason. One of the reasons I liked the OG so much is rubber banding wasn't a thing, if you or the opponents got a strong lead, the rest of the race is going to be painful outside of some hidden shortcut or something like knocking logs down on them. Not in this one. Then the other main feature, ditching the polices by knocking loose obstacles to total them so you can get away... and then, after I totaled that police car, "DUE TO THE FUCKING MAGICAL POWERS OF RUBBERBANDING" the cop was right back on my ass. I couldn't refund because the game time was more than 2 hours, most of which was because the EA launcher was running while Steam was as I was fiddling around with settings simply to make the game run offline and trying to gimp origin as much as possible, and then trying to get Steam Overlay to work. I've since realized that, given that the OG game is no longer available for sale, and EA has chosen to put a changeling in to replace the OG good NFS titles, those titles now qualify as abandonware, and, furthermore, those games are available for PS2 and Xbox and there are emulators of both now, so, it makes far more sense and is cheaper and, if you live in an area which allows you to download and have abandonware, to just go to your favorite trusted ROM site and download the OG games and a decent emulator (which there are many for PSX, and a few good ones for PS2, IDK about Xbox yet) and play the original games. This same shit happened with Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2, except, they're not abandonware because you can buy the OG ones on Steam. I'm so pissed about remakes/remaster's at this point that I almost missed out on System Shock Remake, which would've been a shame as it's *actually a good remake* .
You do them HUGE FAVORS associating your awesome song with this game! ... I scoffed pretty hard when I saw how they tried to roast a fan on Twitter for disputing the need for pre-order bonuses. Really made themselves look like the pricks they are apparently - making games with characters like this in them.
This is actually the best Need for Speed in a while. The Ai is challenging, the cops are challenging in the beginning, the handling is fun and satisfying, and the progression and customisation is good. The rest doesn't really matter much in a racing game.

Mack, this is just a game you need to experience the real thing. I once had to tell a mate of mine to leave his bird because he wanted to work for my organisation down in Hells Parlour in Filly. "I said to him. Don't get involved in anything; anything, you can't walk away from in five seconds flat when you feel the heat around the corner!" He didn't listen and is now doing a long stretch in the Penitentary. I've just spoken to him on my cell. he'll be slopping out as we speak.

Then I loaded up NFS Most Wanted's "remake" and Oh dear gods... WTF did I just buy? Everything totally different, the controls horeshit with a very difficult trek ahead for anyone having the audacity to have a gamepad to play the game like the OG was played, and OFC what EA game from that time wouldn't be complete without further gamepad complications due to them adding their own shitty overlay which conflicted with Steam's decent overlay which then interfered with the game actually realizing a gamepad was plugged in. Then, within a few seconds of taking control of the car I'm made very well aware that I can "connect with friends at any time", yeah, I don't have friends, I pride myself on not having any friends, IDGAF, but, then I realize "Oh, this is also the menu for the cosmetic shop which OFC has IAP and OFC means that one of the OG concepts for the source game no longer applies (earning money in game to paint your car), but, worse, I realized that there were no more garages, you just open that same menu and click a button and boom, instant magical engine upgrade.
What did it for me though, that was horrible as is, but, what REALLLY did it for me is when I clipped a curve sharp, swerved through obstacles like light posts seamlessly on a drift, and t-boned the car I was racing. In the OG game, in most races, you do that the car is out and all you've got to do is finish the race, or, in other modes they'll have a massive delay until the car can respawn. In this one? I t-boned them, swerved back in lane and thought I was getting ready to lap them, and, due to the wonderful magical powers of rubber-banding, they were magically in front of me. This threw me off, I hit a light post and thought I was screwed, and, due to the magical powers of rubberbanding, I was put ahead of that car in the race for whatever reason. One of the reasons I liked the OG so much is rubber banding wasn't a thing, if you or the opponents got a strong lead, the rest of the race is going to be painful outside of some hidden shortcut or something like knocking logs down on them. Not in this one. Then the other main feature, ditching the polices by knocking loose obstacles to total them so you can get away... and then, after I totaled that police car, "DUE TO THE FUCKING MAGICAL POWERS OF RUBBERBANDING" the cop was right back on my ass. I couldn't refund because the game time was more than 2 hours, most of which was because the EA launcher was running while Steam was as I was fiddling around with settings simply to make the game run offline and trying to gimp origin as much as possible, and then trying to get Steam Overlay to work.
I've since realized that, given that the OG game is no longer available for sale, and EA has chosen to put a changeling in to replace the OG good NFS titles, those titles now qualify as abandonware, and, furthermore, those games are available for PS2 and Xbox and there are emulators of both now, so, it makes far more sense and is cheaper and, if you live in an area which allows you to download and have abandonware, to just go to your favorite trusted ROM site and download the OG games and a decent emulator (which there are many for PSX, and a few good ones for PS2, IDK about Xbox yet) and play the original games. This same shit happened with Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2, except, they're not abandonware because you can buy the OG ones on Steam. I'm so pissed about remakes/remaster's at this point that I almost missed out on System Shock Remake, which would've been a shame as it's *actually a good remake* .
You do them HUGE FAVORS associating your awesome song with this game! ... I scoffed pretty hard when I saw how they tried to roast a fan on Twitter for disputing the need for pre-order bonuses. Really made themselves look like the pricks they are apparently - making games with characters like this in them.

This is actually the best Need for Speed in a while. The Ai is challenging, the cops are challenging in the beginning, the handling is fun and satisfying, and the progression and customisation is good. The rest doesn't really matter much in a racing game.
Agreed. Mack didn't really even give this game much of a chance. He'd already decided that he hated it, before he even started playing.

As soon as I saw the obnoxious visuals in the reveal trailer, I knew the game would be awful. It is pretty obvious that the developers ran out of ideas, so they added distracting phone filters that would kill an epileptic patient.
