In contrast, only one-fifth of US parents expect the same for their children. It means that Indian parents are more ambitious for their kids.
US parents believe in letting their kids take important decisions independently. They also let their kids choose career options on their own, whereas 18% of Indian parents want their kids to join IT firms. This, again, the highest from other parenting cultures. They focus more on their kids’ careers and want them to perform great in their respective fields.
91% of Indian parents aspire to have a chance to opt for higher studies for their children. This is 31% higher as compared to the US culture.
This is a look at just the career of kids, but Indian parenting is different from the US in several other ways. There are a lot more aspects in which both parenting types are distinct. In some aspects, Indian parenting peaks, while in others, the US’s rank is higher. Hence, you cannot denote one style of parenting the best. It is just that both styles are different from one another.

Comparison.. We moved to Sydney Australia with 2 kids. I remember at one parent teacher meeting, I asked the teacher “how is Roshni(my daughter) compared to other students”. I was a teacher in India , so I didn’t think it was inappropriate .! Her teacher explained to me how we should never compare our children against others.

I think now a days our families are getting a lot more open and friendly. I don't believe everything that Robert does is on the better side. But when our Rahuls try to imitate Roberts, chances of improvement are less. Instead it's important to just think about it and make improvements only where necessary. We shouldn't feel bad about learning from others and adopting different methodologies where required, if we are convinced that it's more effective. I think the real problem our transforming families need to address is the complete blind switch or imitation of Roberts methods. Afterall any parent with a positive outlook and experience in life won't need any specific 'Robert or Rahul style'.

Chettante videos are superb! I relate to this video a little more than the others because I am living both sides of it - my husband is an American and I am a proud Malayali (moved to the US for higher studies). What you said is 100% true for an average American and Indian family. But, my parents are much more liberal than the average Rahul-family, my husband’s family is more family-oriented than an average Robert-family.
We do have to schedule dinners with my husbands family because they live 2 hours away, and they don’t just “drop in” because that is considered rude. My MIL is one of the coolest people ever, and she and I go on road trips. No ammayiammaporu here!

Great comparison between two countries.As an Indian parent, I will say both countries have their own cultural heritage and every parent has their own way to bring their children up. I think indian parents are more supportive and caring for their children, I can remember when my daughter turned 17 and I brought a new car for her then my friends told me that we never do that and they should work hard for it, at the same time their kids told me that I wish I could have mum like you. Just telling I love you not enough for children, they should feel the love and care at home.
I believe in give and take system while you alive, doesn't matter love, care or material stuff. Collecting rent from their own kids not very attractive system as home is a family home , where kids should feel home , not a tenant. If you bring the kids in a right track then they will definitely love you back and you will enjoy your old age at home with your children.
Well in my Indian home i have abusive narcissistic mother and a dysfunctional family dynamic. And Indian society is too close minded to face this reality. And this issue is very widely seen in America but you find this in all areas of the globe. But due to social issues and an inability to see things as they are I am suffering a lot.
