Older boat I bought used and been working on, budget deal. 1999 Triton TR-17 and put a 2024 90 Yamaha SHO. Thought i'd be disappointed knowing 115 would be the deal, but budget constraints put me in the 90. Couldn't be happier, thing hops up on pad in no time and pushes like a 115. I fish for fun, typically skinny water and love how quiet and smooth of a ride it is. My 4 yr old daughter who is used to my 2 stroke said 'Daddy you forgot to turn on the motor' last boat ride.

My brother in law bought a new skeeter Yamaha 250 last spring. He was a Mercury guy but was sold on the Yammy through skeeter. He blew his lower unit in August and waited for months to get it replaced then his second trip after being fixed his head blew on hole shot. He literally has 21 hours on the boat because his was in and out the shop lol.
My mercury blew last summer also….we were miserable lol. Think my next boat will run a Suzuki

I agree, Suzuki needs to give us a V6 225 SS 20” shaft motor!!!! I’d buy one today if it was available. But it probably won’t happen because the 150, 200 and 250 is where the majority of the market it is at.

My 115 Optimax blew up last year and I found a used 115 ProXS 4S to replace it with low hours. Though it runs great I just couldn’t afford buying what I wanted at the time which was either the Zuki 140 or the settle for Zuki 115. After talking to Zuki owners and reading hundreds of reviews on all the major outboards the Zuki is an excellent choice with more reliability than Mercury. Maybe not as fast of a motor, but fast isn’t my top priority.

Man, love the look of the Mercurys and I went with one. Unfortunately looks don’t get bass back to weigh in. 2022 250 pro xs 130 hours and my lower unit left the comment section today in the widest part of Champlain with thunderstorms coming over the mountains. Luckily was able to run her back at 40 mph. It sounds like a rod knock but being told by a bunch of people it’s most likely the lower unit.

I had twin yams 150s on a 25’ tidewater center toilet. I had it for 5 years but only used it less than 100 hours due to health reasons. The motor was not broken in. I took it out for a demo ride last year, had it pumped up 3” on Bob’s J plates. I had problems getting it past 5000r’s. Yam rep at Miami boat show said if I’m going to pay for all those extra power it should pull more r’s than an oiler. O during the demo ride I had maybe 30 gallons of gas, all crap removed, 4 people OB. FOR THE first time it zoomed pasted 5500 headed for I don’t know what. I missed the ramp and was headed for the marina when the broker pulled me off the throttles. I’m sure I got real close to 60. A center toilet, with a wing, cool air, high barometer , I shut down right at 5500 and motor was not done. New owner and I were smiling like idiots. That’s the last I saw of it. I had to drop my price a little but my depreciation was really low for a boat. I always thought yammers were boring but I didn’t like Merc organization, arrogant sob’s. They use to come to boat Rally’s and their 30 something marketing people were soooooo arrogant. What scored Yammy points is a guy older than me, I’m 76 now and this guy said “ crank it up!” I love it when they talk dirty to me. I think BRP (sounds like burp) COULD HAVE cleaned up evinrudes shop so they play with the big boys. BRP had FI jet ski engines that ran like banshees w/o smoke. What could have been.

But if i was shopping for a new motor now i would seriously consider suzuki i had 2 older johnsons an 85 and a 150 on a bass boat. I will say the 85 never gave me any problems. The 150 was really fast on my 17 bass boat high 60's not bad i made a mistake and took off rhe oil injection system so i could mix my own oil. And that was a mistake it never ran the same after that. I also had a 90 yamaha on a small flats boat and that motor was also awsome. Wasnt fast but it ran perfect

Suzuki, it sucks compared to the old 225 4s Yamaha, big mistake on spending money just cause I wanted a new engine. I actually like the old Yamaha better. It was sorted out perfectly when I got it and the new Suzuki is far from it and too costly to do so, $25k with a bobs and it only made me sit lower in the seat :( while it does it's thing, smooth and quiet for sure.

Rumor has that Suzuki is building their engines to have significantly longer life than the others. I don't know if that means they just kept doing what they were doing or the others lowered their engineering threshold. Over-engineering is something you get cautioned against in college engineering classes. The threshold has been getting shorter and shorter as time. In short, the better you make something the longer you take someone out of the market for it.

Suzuki has always been bulletproof motorcycles. and recently they have leveled up big time in outboards of all hp.
They don't update and overhaul shit constantly they just keep refining with a slow evolution of things.
they know that what they know works..and keep making things that seem the same on the outside to most.... but guys that know suzuki, understand that they just keep refining until they are pretty much bulletproof unless you are a complete idiot and just run WOT everywhere..
Suzuki is gonna end up being king in outboards. They aren't flashy or a exciting gimmicky brand name brand that brags. But they are catching on in the marine world. Their product speaks for itself.
I'm not certain but I think another of there stuff has the best manufacturers warranty

@@barrychouinard4019 in general we don’t talk much about walleye boats of big water boats because reliability is the only thing that should matter. It doesn’t matter how fast your rig is really, just need to not get stranded out. Mercury is automatically out in our opinion then. Go Suzuki or Yamaha on all models!
