    I'm a 57 yr. old drummer who took his 11 yr. old son to see them play at the house of blues a couple of years ago. I really went to see Animals As Leaders who was on the bill that evening with TesseracT. I gotta say there was an incredible amount of genius on that stage that night. I felt like everybodies dad there but I felt right at home. In fact, they took my son to the front of the stage and passed him around from shoulder to shoulder. He had a fuckin blast. Then someone put a BTBAM hat on him which really made the night for him. The crowd as well as the music made my night too. Thank you all for being so Damn Cool.

    I love listening to this song straight into bloom. And then listening to bloom straight into melting city. And then I listen to the rest of the album, and then start the album on "goodbye to everything," and then I just listen to the whole album again. Like everyday.

    • @argyrispapas1378
      @argyrispapas1378 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, "Telos" means "The End" in greek, so technically, Telos can be considered the last song. Which means that Bloom is the first one.

    I've seen BTBAM 3 times and I'm just always so amazed at their level of musicianship and how tight they are live that I can't do anything but stand there in amazement and listen. Seeing BTBAM live is like going to a fine art gallery. You want to look and take it all in, not necessarily mosh. But, to each his own.

  • @tj12711

    I'm pretty sure I was at this show. It was BTBAM's first time playing this song live (nobody had ever heard it before). It was in Pops Theatre St Louis, their first show after recording Parallax II. So you can't really blame the crowd for not moving much. BTBAMs music takes a lot of processing (one of the things that makes them the greatest band ever). I can assure you, for every other song they played the crowd went nuts.

    New to the kit? Check out how your favorite drummers arrange their drums. How low/high are they? What angle are they at? How is the drummer sitting? Low? High? Slouched over, or sitting up straight? Watch the video again, focusing just on Blake's posture, the angle of his arms & legs. Try to replicate some of those things. When you've got it all set the way you like it, then keep it that way for a while, and sit the same way, same height, same distance every single time. It will help.

    • @NickAcker
      @NickAcker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I mean, you aren't supposed to dance really. You can if you want to, but a lot of people like to just watch the musicians and pay attention because of how complex the songs are. No right or wrong way to enjoy a concert but its pretty nice to go to a show where other people are pretty respectful of personal space and also just want to watch the band. I recently went to a TesseracT/Gojira show and the crowd was super tame for TesseracT and I had a blast watching the band kill it on stage, but as soon as gojira started I was so focused on not getting trampled that I couldn't enjoy myself. I think that it's a compliment to the band if anything when someone just wants to watch them and not focus on anything else. Just my two cents on this though.

    A click is a metronome
    Some musicians rush through easier passages and slow down for more difficult ones. A metronome can help you maintain a steady tempo throughout a piece of music. It can help you develop an internal sense of rhythm and timing. As you become more sensitive to tempo variations, you learn there isn't just fast and slow but many levels in between.

    dont limit yourself to one kind of music like for example metal im a metal drummer myself and its fun to sit down and play jazz beats or slow rock stuff like that the different techniques that each genre uses especially in jazz which in my opinion is one of the most important things to learn to become a great technical drummer like blake :)

    You guys should do one for each track on the album, maybe the isolated drum part?

  • @MattFittPhoto
    @MattFittPhoto 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Practice every day, if you're able. Warm up by stretching your hands, arms, legs for 5 minutes. On the kit, start with some simple rudiments, at a slow tempo (use a metronome). Then speed it up a bit. Maybe choose to focus on one or two particular rudiments today. Just keep playing them on the snare, then the tom, floor tom, hi-hat, ride, and even the bass drum. Get comfortable with playing the rudiment on any single drum. Then, start separating parts of the rudiment to different drums.(cont)

    Very true and straightforward reply but, it also gives the band a more relaxed and energetic feeling when the crowd is pumped up too. At least that's what I found from my experiences with a few small gigs.

    Even tho this is live, the track is not from that show. Still, a true drummer knows he's nailing every part.

    A click means staying in tempo and keeping in time with eachother

    Continue with the rudiment, but play right hand on hi-hat, left on snare.
    Then reverse it.
    Now add in the bass drum on 1-2-3-4, where you're playing 16th notes with your hands: 1-e-&-a-2-e-&-a-3-e-&-a-4-e-&-a-1... Great!
    Now continue variations on this between different toms, snare/bass, ride/bass, etc.
    More? Play it between three pieces. Then four.
    By doing this, you learn the rudiment _really_ well. And you gain independence btw hands & feet. And you'll hear cool things to apply later.

    it doesn't matter if this is the studio song because he pretty much plays it exactly the same, except he adds a few hits to it

    thanks but i'm not a musician, so what does a click mean, and why do they do it?

    You might find that you love the complexity and challenge of all the endless variations of the rudiment exercise. But if this seems like a chore, then find out how much it will help you with all those other things you want to play... Having done all the warmups & rudiments, NOW start just playing some beats, like usual. You'll notice the difference! You'll be more accurate and more relaxed. Try integrating the rudiment into your beats, your fills... play with it. Have fun with it. Enjoy!
