It almost makes me angry that someone could not only play this well, but compose such an unbelievable arrangement of drums. I swear this guy is an alien.
@@48683747429 Oh man where to start! Depends on what you're looking after, but there are drummers better than him in every category. Benny Greb, Jojo mayer, hell it's a toss up but id say stylistically even the super overrated danny carey is better. In terms of technicality Tomas Haake is leagues ahead.
When I saw them at The Fillmore Silver Spring I got to hang out with them before the show. Such cool down to earth guys! Then when they came on and opened with this I almost died from happiness.
This dude is obviously sick but danny does more creative shit where its original..Blake is amazing but different than Danny carey and I guarantee that blake would agree
i was watching this 12 years ago, still here and completely mind blown- as a drummer myself i’ve evolved so much and can understand so much better what’s going on here 😂
ok from the album you can tell this guy is talented. but watching him play the whole god damn song just gives you an entirely different prospective. So many small complicated fills i never heard before. mad props
I watch this all the time solely for the fact that Blake makes a single error with his playing...thus, proving he is indeed human and not a cyborg drummer from the future....
Some of the drum parts Blake writes are just...like...insane, I'd love to get into his mind and understand how he writes such perfect drums for the songs.
They're both unbelievable drummers. I couldn't say which one is "better" because I really like them both equally. They both have an insane amount of talent.
You guys really have so many amazing drummers, this guy, Nils Fjellstrom, Jon Rice, Francesco Paoli. OH AND JOHN from origin! It's hard to say one is better than the other, because they all excel at what they do. It's simply amazing.
that kit sounds immense!..i'm not into this whole prog thing BTBAM are doing these days personally, however no one (including myself) can deny how technical it is! Blake is and will always be one of my favorite drummers
Why are so many people inclined to compare drummers to other drummers like they're a fucking products? Unbelievable. Blake is perfect for BTBAM and is a very versatile drummer. He's extremely dynamic in his songwriting and technique and is my favorite drummer because of that. To compare him to Navene from AAL or Lyle from The Faceless is ridiculous! They are all so good that it doesn't even matter who can do what better than who because at the level they are at, it just doesn't fucking matter.
on top of alllll the other ridiculous things Blake's capable of.. he leads is double kick with his left foot. HIS LEFT FOOT. that would literally make my eyes stay crossed for the rest of my life if i attempted such feats. he's the best, relaxed, most natural drummer there is.
I agree with Powaowa1, you guys should post more videos like this with really SICK drumers who do more than mindless double bass and blast beats this video is awesome, good job
The attention to detail in this man's drumming, omg. I just noticed the difference in force with which he hits the snare on the ride blasts and the china blasts. The little shit!
This guy is so so so freaking talented!!! It is really rare to see this much talent out of a metal drummer...let me explain. Most metal drummers have speed, but MANY do not have their rudiments down pat like Blake does. He really is like an up and coming Mike Portnoy (not my favorite, but has made talent when it comes to implementing rudiments). Mad props to Blake!!!
It's because he has the opportunity to write to already very well-developed guitar parts, as long as you really follow what the guitars are doing, it's not that hard to mimic it on drums. The key to writing great drum parts is having a great melody section in the band.
And also, I'm watching Blake's feet... quite a lot of the time, as if just for fun, he changes what foot he leads with. It's just... my mind is blown. If I don't play Obfuscation constantly leading with my right foot, I just fall apart.
A lot of drummers try to lead left-hand sticking with their right foot and right-hand sticking with their left foot. It helps develop limb dependence. The Faceless' drummer is really interesting to watch because of this too.
I'd love to meet blake sometime. i'd ask him his influences, how he tunes his toms and how in the hell he remembers to play bombass 10 min songs perfectly. your my hero
its funny how defensive people get. 7:19 was a mistake like ajaxpuffNstuff said, but it doesnt matter listen to everything before and after it, pure gold. musicians are allowed to make mistakes, my bet is no one in the audience even heard it
I love this. Any drummer with a 5pc kit could practice this... they'd have to steal a few extra cymbals though! Seriously, he's right up there with Gene Hoglan in using a kit that isn't too big, aside from the emphasis on using more cymbals.
Blake is completely inhuman. There are very few drummers who can even come remotely close to touching the greatness of this man in general, let alone in extreme music... Truly a gifted musician, as is everyone in Between the Buried and Me.
It's refreshing to hear the natural sound of his drums rather than the super-polished compression BTBAM have on their albums and other studio recordings. Sounds totally different and I like it.
It almost makes me angry that someone could not only play this well, but compose such an unbelievable arrangement of drums. I swear this guy is an alien.
hes seriously the best drummer ive ever heard :O
check out some more drummers!

This guy is an insane drummer. And a chill guy in real life!
Chill to hang out with, can will give you the chills when he plays. Perfect combo
#1) THOSE TOMS
#2) Watch the foot cam at some parts, alternating lead food, amazing
#3) THOSE TOMS
That groove that starts at 8:37, and especially at 9:22 is still one of my favorite drums parts. Blake's writing is intentional and interesting
This whole section gives me chills -- and has since literally the first time I heard it -- because of the rhythm section. Insane stuff.
The bridge is just...evil. But good evil. Blake is definitely one of my candidates for Man of the Century So Far.
Bridge being 6:31? That's my favorite part.
@@dinospumoni5611 my guess is he's talking about 8:37
One of the greatest drummers alive. Perfect technique, tone, style, and feeling.
This song never gets old, just wish i could play like him
When I saw them at The Fillmore Silver Spring I got to hang out with them before the show. Such cool down to earth guys! Then when they came on and opened with this I almost died from happiness.
Probably my favorite metal drummer next to Danny Carey
Alex Menendez Danny Carey plays edgy stoner teen rock, Blake is the real deal
Danny Carey is the greatest drummer of all time HANDS DOWN PERIOD
@@washburn11000 nice bait

Same same. I was actually at this show and still come back here to reminisce

i've seen them play three times and in each of those times he's been 100% on everything.
OMG I was THERE!! I knew I saw a drum cam!
I've never really taken the time to listen to this band eventhough I've heard about them for years. Good thing I found this video.
Greatest drummer ever..
I was so happy these songs were on their set list.

im a guitarist and this is one of my fav. vids on youtube. this guy is just fantastic :)
So much fun to listen to
really amazing
I am also about to watch this for the 50th time...
0:33 That guy always cracks me up
"Yeeeaaahhhh Between the buried and meeee!"
Ayyye I was at that show.
Michael Schultz noiceeee
amazing snare sound. Believe its a Tama starphonic brass snare...14 x 6
I was front row for this.
hell yeah! one of my most favorite drummers.
That know kit sounds amazing...
This is just so.......good
Who the hell disliked this?
Saw them on this tour. They played a really fucking good set.
Digging the shrunk down set up, and his snare always sounds so good! Even through a camera mic.
Tama makes the best sounding drums. Blake Richardson knows how to tune as well!
8:38.... i could watch this all day... BAD ASS
pure perfection

That snare drum sound it's just perfect, sorry, the whole kit sounds perfect
1 second in and I already liked it. I knew this was gonna rule
