    Hi Jeff - RocketymanRay here again. I've made a dozen batches of soap - you were my inspiration! The house always smells good now, I usualy have a batch curing. I give it away for gifts, and just to be nice and share. I'm not ready to start making it commerically yet, but I may need something to do after retiring after 40 years working in the aerospace industry for NASA at Kennedy Space Center. If you're ever in the area to watch a launch, let me know - I owe you a cold drink!!

    If you add some titanium dioxide to the mix it will whiten the soap and then your colors will take nicely. You have probably already worked that out as the vid is a few years old but for beginner soap makers like me it's a handy tip. Cheers

    Hi Jeff - great video, and I'm motivated to start.... the "refined" coconut oil, is it a local brick and mortar purchases ie. Lou Anne at Walmart? Thanks... And, I like you other videos. Thx

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the coconut oil and the olive oil I brought at Costco but you can find them at any grocery store. I’ve tried several different types of coconut oil and they all worked well. I don’t use ‘extra virgin” olive oil anymore because it turns the soap yellow. I found that the regular olive oil works better.

      @@rocketmanray Thanks glad I can help. I buy all my fragrance oils from a website called Brambleberry they have a huge selection of quality fragrances. they even have a masculine section. The one I get the most compliments on using is a fragrance called “Blue Man” i put a link to it for you. The only thing is it turns your soap brown but it smells so good it’s worth it haha.
      the second one people like a lot is called Fierce it’s a copy of the Abercrombie fragrance. that one won’t discolor your soap but in fortunately it’s sold out at the moment
      Lastly there’s a sent called midnight water that I like to use it’s just a nice fresh sent.
      One of my go tos for sure
      The opening of my video was filmed in Barcelona where I was vacationing at the time. At the time I was thinking of starting a travel channel or something haha.
      Good luck with your soap making!

    So from making foam machines you went to making liquid soap to go with them, then figured you'd get into solid soapmaking as well? I know how getting into making stuff often leads to making other stuff.

      I found out since filming this video that the “extra virgin” olive oil turns the soap yellow but if you use just plain olive oil it doesn’t effect the color at all. I’ve definitely been meaning to try titanium dioxide

    I've gone through the making process exactly as you've shown it here and for some reason after 24 hours my soap is still very soft. Too soft to remove from the mold. What could be the problem?

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lakeside Productions humm a lot of things could have happened, it’s possible the lye wasn’t strong enough. I had a batch do that one time. It turned out I added 5% to much oil I left it in the mold for afew days until i could remove it. ended up tuning out alright just took longer to harden.

    • @LakesideProductions

      @@Viera95 The seal wasn't 100% secured on my lye when delivered. So maybe it absorbed moisture. I'll leave the soap sit in the mold for a couple days so and see if I can cut it after some time. Also maybe I need a electronic sales rather than an old school one Thanks

    • @1lisalopez

      I had the same problems. By I’m wondering if it is my climate. It is summer. I’m going to leave it in my moulds another day.
      I saw another video and they recommended putting the moulds in the freezer for 20 mins. Then leave them to cure.
      Correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you.

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This recipe generally takes longer to fully harden then others I make. I don’t think climate has too much to do with it but yeah freezing it probably would help you get it out of the mold if it hasn’t hardened enough. There is not to much rush to take it out of the mold so leaving it a few more days would probably work also.

    • @gustavoechevarria9369
      @gustavoechevarria9369 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunflower and Palm Oil have to get highly processed in order to reach their oil status
      Meaning that they’re extremely unhealthy, so try to switch those oils With Avocado Oil and/or Coconut Oil, or any sort of animal fat

    I made this recipe and it's not getting hard, firm but not hard. So I ran it through the Lye calculator with 5% superfat and your water and lye is way off. you need more lye and less water in this recipe.

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a lye calculator to get this recipe and it works well for me. I have water at 38%, I use that for all of my recipes.

    • @kristophert932
      @kristophert932 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Viera95 your lye is perfect yes sorry, I was looking at another recipe I had for different oils but it does say that the water should be 319.26gr for that amount of Lye. maybe that's why it's taking so long for it to harden.

    • @Viera95
      @Viera95  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristopher T, no worries. In my experience the recipes with a high percentage of olive oil take longer to hardened in the mold. There’s no rush though since it takes 4 weeks for cold process soap to be fully hardened and ready to use anyway so an extra day or 2 in the mold won’t hurt.
      Good luck with your soap project.
