@@tamekasmith1947 I have friends in Jamaica and you all are from the place with the most herbs and spices in the world!! I was shocked to see people going to the store to buy 2nd hand imported soap from China!! I told my friend the next time I come there I would show him how to make soap!! I'm on FaceBook MS Cookie's Pantry
I ran into a problem making this soap. In the video she is using a coconut milk called Simple Truth Unsweetened Coconut milk which is not a pure coconut milk but has additives. In my recipe I used a much higher quality coconut milk which was only pure coconut milk with no additives which, evidently, has a MUCH higher concentration of fats as opposed to a cheaper variation. The resulting "lye water" was way thicker than I would normally expect. Something to keep in mind if you are using a high quality coconut milk. In my recipe I ended up adding some water to the recipe so I wouldn't end up with a failed batch. Lesson learned: This recipe will need some adjusting depending on the kind of coconut milk one uses.
Yes, it was the Native Forest Unsweetened Organic Coconut Milk Simple Version which contains no guar. I added a small amount of additional water to the lye mixture because it was just too thick to use before pouring it into the oils. Almost like a milkshake in consistency. I didn't actually measure the amount of additional water I used. I sort of ballparked it. Fortunately, the batch came out without any major issues.@@AnaisCoundial
I did the same thing and my lye never dissolved in the coconut milk. I froze the coconut milk and then added the lye. I even added a little water to make sure but I ended up with a thick batter of coconut milk and lye and the lye didn’t dissolve fully even though I stirred forever. My end soap was grainy and had undissolved lye. I had to throw it out.
On my end, I dissolved the lye on 1:1 ration, then I used a freshly squeezed coconut milk with a lower water content about 1:1.5, in total I used 1 part lye by 2.5 water plus cocomilk. You can add the cocomilk with the oil mixture first stir with spatula then add the lye water solution. It works for me😊
Made this lovely soap 4 weeks ago and used it tonight. Really lovely lather and moisturizing. Will definitely make this soap again! Thank you Holly :) Cheers from Canada
This will be a great business idea for women living in rural areas. In many areas milk gets spoiled because of lack of storage facilities. Thanks for sharing your ideas on TH-cam.
What a creamy and lovely bar of soap. I'm sure it smells amazing as I love lavender AND patchouli. Nicely done and thank you for sharing your recipe. I've got to try that. I've never used so much shea before so it will be a new experience!!! Take care and have a beautiful up coming week.

I’m a new subscriber and look forward to your beautiful videos and luscious soaps. Very informative. I’m excited to try this recipe. Thank you, Holly!! 💗
Thank you so much for that wonderful video! Very informative with regard to working with coconut milk. My only question is at the closing of your video - you are using a green plastic rack/container where you place the soaps for drying - I do not see that on your equipment used list - can you tell me where you purchased that item? Thank you for your time! Kate from North Idaho
Thank you so much! Absolutely...I completely forgot about the drying racks. I purchased them from Essential Depot (essentialdepot.com) several years ago. Just search their site for soap drying trays or stacking soap drying trays. Thanks for watching!
I love the beautiful simplicity of your soap. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I’m curious how you know that the soap went through gel phase. Is there a sign that you look for when the mold is completely covered?
Lovely!! What a beautiful soap and video. Doesn’t water evaporate during the curing process, and if replacing water with coconut milk, that will evaporate too right? Then whats the point of using any milk?
thank you for this lovely video, please i have a question, did you mix olive oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado, castor oil and super fat together? secondly, did you heat the oil?
am very new to soap making .am also a new subscriber to your channel .i find this so soothing and relaxing .i would watch you all day. i can say i learnt something new today subbing milk for water . do you encounter any issues with the milk and lye thickening up on you ?
Hello, I live in the south and find your voice so calming, familiar and enjoyable to listen to. Thank you for sharing this. I am curious and new to soap making and have been looking for videos that I can easily understand. Only thing I don't know is the oils percentage part. Not sure how to go about that.
Lovely! I’ve never tried coconut milk before. I will have to plan on using it in one of my upcoming soaping sessions. Have you ever tried oat milk in a soap? It makes a lovely soap too!
Beautiful soap. Looks so creamy 💕 Do you have any previous video on lining moulds to have sharp edges to soap. I have challenges in lining the slim wooden moulds
Thank you! I don't, but I line my molds like Amy Warden does in her TH-cam video - th-cam.com/video/3mSg-OQ51hM/w-d-xo.html. I think what helps me the most is really making sure I have the paper stretched all the way across the bottom of the mold before making the marks and then creasing really well. Hope this helps!
Hi I wanted to know if the soap goes through complete gel phase after being left outside, won’t it change colour? Most of the videos on milk soaps suggest to put it in deep freezer right away after poring into the mood to avoid gel phase. I’m looking for clarity on this as I’m making my first batch with milk tree. Thx so mu h and lovely video ❤️
Thanks! That's a great question! I usually put my soaps on a rack to dry for about 4 weeks (called the curing time). The bars are actually safe to use when saponification is complete (24-48 hours or so when they've turned into soap and cooled off), but it takes about 4 weeks for the water to evaporate and the bar to be hard enough so it lasts longer when used. The bar will usually be milder, harder, and probably have better lather after they've cured. Thanks for asking!
I love your soap making videos! So therapeutic!! Question: Could you use coconut milk in replacement of water in any recipe? And is it always an equal weight amount of milk that it would be water? For example, I replace 40 g of water with 40 g of coconut milk. Or do I use more because of the high amount of fat and other things in the coconut milk?
Hello Holly! If I may ask where did u bought the mold and the thing that cuts the soap? Is amazing what two kindly hands can do 😉 thank you for sharing 🌼

Hi there! I must say that it is soothing to watch your soap making videos =) I am confused about something because I have read that the weight of water (and I would assume for any type of liquid as well) is different when it is in a liquid state and heavier when frozen. Would it make sense if I weigh the liquid first before freezing it or just weigh it when it is already frozen?
Thank you! The weight doesn't change when frozen, only the volume changes. Since we're weighing the ingredients, it's perfectly fine to use frozen. Hope this helps!
I made it today. First time with Milk, love the idea. I made it just as you suggested but added raw oatmeal for some exfoliation. One question; how long do you suggest I let it cure before using it? ... Nevermind, I see you answered the same question a few months ago - 4 weeks. Thanks
