  • This video is from the spring of 2020 when I did all the work in the New Holland 326. The hay dog stops were completely gone when I bought this baler so I installed new stops as well as replacing a broken spring.
Hopefully you get something out of this video and it helps you on your baler repair.

I had a lot tougher time on my 565. Very little room to work behind there. I had the same pounded metal spurs, but I didn't have any grinder that would fit. Ended up filing a bunch and then on one of the stops I actually shaved it a little thinner on the belt sander! Anyway, it was a lot of work for 3 little rubber triangles! Not keen to do the bottom dogs. Off season maybe.

You helped me a lot I just installed two of them and one new spring. Absolute nightmare. First and last new Holland baler. There is something to be said about an auger. Deere and company moline IL. Never been duplicated. The whole fork design is stupid.

Glad I could help. I’m used to hate doing the springs on the dogs until one day I had a light bulb go off. Ever since then I don’t dread them at all.

Until you wrap the augers and spend half a day getting the augers clear

Awesome!!! I’m glad to hear that I’ve helped you out. I get some things from Shoup and some from Esch.

I have a hay dog spring broke on the underside of my 575. Have a new spring, but haven't had the motivation to crawl under there yet.

It’s not bad really. Just need to get it cleaned up a little and soak the pin with some pb or something. Usually the bottom ones are stuck too bad. If they’re stuck that’s the worst part.

My advice would be to change it as soon as you can. If you are lucky it will cause a missed knot, if you are not, it will break a needle.

I just got two old nh balers. Both had awfully neglected hay dogs, even stored inside the chaff that collects on them just rots them out bad. If a baler has had needles replaced, that was likely the reason, and they just replaced them and didn't look to find out what broke them or give it a good look over.

Yeah balers are neglected a lot. My baler wasn’t in that bad of shape compared to a lot of other balers I’ve seen as far as rust and everything. I blow the chaff off when I’m done and sometimes I put some penetrating oil on the hay dog pins just to make sure they stay free.
