    I changed the trip arm and some other parts on my older 570 small square baler, but things did not quite work out!

    Nice video, We recently rebuilt our NH565 replacing plunger bearings, cam follower bearings from Shoup Manufacturing. Shoup MFG, currently has a 10% off sale saving us $150 over CNH. Also replacing all springs and bearings, feeder chain idler pulley, knotter knives, slip clutch and components, plunger and stationary knife kit from Messick's. The Messick's has CHN's online catalogues and good diagrams with serial number breaks included. We baled 730 square's and it hasn't missed a lick,

    Mechanic Tip Never push a wrench with a closed hand...... Your knuckles will thank you! We used first a Bale Bandit and Later a Bale Baron..... The Bandit was not as particular about bale length as the Baron.... But a Baron 21 bale bundle will fit into the same space as a Bandit 18 bale bundle.... So we swapped out the 5070 New Holland with an 1840 inline....and increased our trailer capacity by almost 300 bales........ The plunger has 2 slots in theroy the needles are TIMED to pass thru the slots in the plunger and BEHIND the last flake of Hay not thru the hay.... A Bale Baron uses Needles and Double Knotters. plus 450 knot strength twine Ties one knot going up and another coming down.... but they are controlled by go and no go electronic sensors; so a mafunction is readly displayed and corrected.....

    Probably the best way to describe that wheel for the trip arm is serrated. As you correctly stated they are not teeth on a gear, nor are they splines. I suppose after many tens of thousand cycles they will wear because there isn't any lubrication. and if there was lubrication the trip arm might slip? A thin wipe of machine grease might preseve the new wheel and trip arm. Interesting stuff though.

    Glad you got it working right! When you started talking about shearing those pins the first thing I thought of was the needle brake. When the pads get worn the needles will creep down as you go over rough ground until they get far enough to trip the plunger stop. I've had that happen. Just need to give the nuts on the springs a couple turns if that's the issue.

    You mentioned in passing that it would break the shear bolt every so often. I assume you mean the one on the flywheel. We have a 575 that we bought new in '97. In that time I have replaced the needles that wore to the point that they were cutting the twine, The 4 bearings on the lower thrower belt assembly, a few pick up tines, and a hay dog spring. A few years back it was breaking shear bolts for no apparent reason, I went through a bag of them, and the frequency was increasing. Over winter, the reason finally occurred to me. There is a roller chain behind the flywheel that drives the shaft going back to the knotter. I had never messed with this in all the time we had owned it. I took a look at it and found that it was extremely loose. I assume it was snagging a tooth and locking things up which sheared the pin. Once I adjusted the chain tension to something reasonable, it has never bothered since. With the shields in place, this chain is pretty much out of sight and out of mind. There of course is also the needle protection latch pivot under that shield as well. Not real easy to get at, but I'm told you want to keep that greased so that the latch system works as intended or bad things follow.

    Oil the heck out of the linkage for the fingers soit works very easily, that damn 285 hay liner would getdry and sticky and bale the needles so keep that stuff clean, u canbraze the needles and they work fine

    Probably have to change the star ⭐️ wheel as well to make the other parts work.

      I think you are correct, but that meant buying more parts lol It was cheaper to wait for the back-ordered parts to come in that matched the ones I removed. Good to see you back on the tubes!

    Chris, the difference in those trip arms are pretty significant. (serrated and non-serrated). Hope you're able to get the correct sized grooved buching to adjust the knot maker for your baler. I thinkyour baler fix went well. How does it wok with the new trop arm? Full-watch. 🙂

      I think that bushing size was the majority of the problem. With it being more than twice the diameter of the old one, I think it was causing the trip arm to move way faster that it should have been. Oh, well, its fixed now!

    Thanks for sharing those baler repairs. I'll have to remember them if & when my New Holland 565 has those issues. Did you have to change the small wheel for the trip arm??? Stay safe.

      Yes, the final parts replacement I did when I installed the yellow trip arm, I put a new, smaller diameter wheel on. Thanks for watching!

    I've found that balers (square and round) are alot like watches. Just one little thing out of adjustment and it won't work. I've also found that ya always take your old parts (when you can) when you go to get new parts. New parts/old equipment don't always match up. Be safe.

    Chris, was a cheap easy fix.. it's was all just an adjustment. You move the starwheel shaft fore and aft to adjust the tension of the trip arm. Should show it in the book.
    Interesting that New Holland went back to the clamp and setscrew for length adjustment.. thought they dumped that after the 420 to 426 models. They went to an adjustable tower or stand or whatever you want to call it. Basically a block that only let the trip arm go so far down.
    Plunger dog... Never fun when they get out of adjustment!
    Probably would have been a small adjustment rather than new part, but... I never did like the idea of the cable, cables stretch. Especially when they are always getting jerked on.. then adjustment is off.

      I don't think you can move the spiked wheel on this baler. From what I understand, I could have changed it to the modern one and it may have been ok. But that meant buying more parts! It was cheaper to wait for the back-ordered parts. The old trip arm has grooves wore in it. It was an annoying ordeal lol

      @@dehavenfamilyfarm oh, I know how annoying it is!! Worn many trip arms and drive wheels out. Where the star wheel shaft mounting brackets bolt to the chamber, the holes in the brackets should be slotted. Adjust it so the arm and wheel don't touch when it resets. They used to show it in the book, had an actual measurement.
      We always played with it though, because rough ground can be an issue if it's not set up close enough.
