I met Maren in the early 1980s when I was having lunch with an actor friend who'd worked with her. We were in a restaurant in Glendale and she came over to say hi to him. She was so sweet and quite shy, which surprised me. She was also absolutely incredibly beautiful.

I was 14 when BG was on and a huge fan. OMG I was so in love with her, her pictures were on my wall, next to Erin Grey, Pamela Hensley, Carrie Fisher and Han Solo Lol. I was so happy she ended up with Don Henley, he was always my favorite singer. Even after they broke up their still friends. I like this channel, it's all the stuff I grew up with and loved.

I am not happy she ended up with Don Henley. I can’t get that underage girl out of my mind back in the day that he was involved in. People victim shame. They made a huge deal out of this kid being a woman for hire instead of focusing on what happened to her. I never forgot that. Henley denied everything and of course people believe that. Anyone can say they didn’t, doesn’t mean they are telling the truth. It was a different time but that’s like saying, someone was violated back then and it’s ok “cuz it was a different time” which is ridiculous.
Anyway, about Maren, she was one of my early celebrity crushes before I realized I was lesbian in my 20’s but back then I was just a kid and thought she was incredibly gorgeous!!!

I have to admit I barely remember Maren Jensen on Battlestar Galactica. I do recall she did get to Pilot a Viper once, When all of the Male Warriors were put out of Commission because of a Virus they had picked up on a Planet somewhere. Suddenly they had to recruit a bunch of female Pilots for an Important Mission, and Jensen's Character finally got to leave the Command Center.

I loved her as Athena. She was gorgeous, intelligent, extremely capable, and very spunky. Although I always rooted for Cassiopeia, I loved the chemistry between Athena and Starbuck, too. I never cared for Sheba. She was way to whinny and emotionally needy to be the super warrior that everyone claimed that she was. I think the only reason that she received that hype is that she was the daughter of the "legendary Commander Cain." Maren was a great actress who could have done so much more, had it not been for that sickness. Great video, as always. God bless you, my friend!

HahA! Sounds like Howard Cosell was a little smitten with Maren. Can't blame him, so was I. I was a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica. Maren looked great in a Colonial Warrior's uniform, or Command Blues. Wish she had been in more episodes. I was Team Athena over Cassiopia! Thanks, Dave!

Maren Jenson belonged on Battlestar Galactica she was great as Athena and I always liked her far more than Lt Sheba. Losing her was one of the shows missteps along the way to its dismissal. Maren Jensen would have only helped with keeping the shows ratings up and the networks off of the producers backs.

Maren was under used and way under appreciated on Battle Star Galatica! She was every bit as talented as , Laurette,or Ann and give more opportunities , would have surpassed them!
It's painfully obvious Glen Larson didn't recognize the seed of talent that if nurtured would have bloomed!
Larson poor decisions can be seen in BSG remake !

Loved Maren Jensen as Athena in BSG. Always wanted more from her but never got it. Remember, this was back in the late 1970's when behind the scenes "shady issues" between actresses and higher-ups were the norm. Just saying.

Back in the late 70s, I was 10 and thought she was the most beautiful woman in the universe (sorry Cassiopeia, but not even close) & I never noticed her acting. Re-watching the series now, I still find her gorgeous, but Oooch, yeah.. It's kind of like watching, and I mean this purely in the comical sense, when adult actresses tried to act and read actual dialogue (back when they used to do that sort of thing).

I watched every episode of Battlestar Galactica, and the main problem with it was that it was an action show smack dab in the middle of the non-violence ocean of the late '70s - early '80s. I think I was aware that Maren was by far the least emotive of the cast, and I'm sure that I suspected incompetence by a producer for the lack of screen time. Anne Hathaway was a better actress, so I didn't sweat it at the time. Had she had more opportunities, not being typecast in Galactica would have been fortuitous. I sure hate to hear about the disease, and hope she's happy. A wish I share for all regular folks, though not for the 'elites'.

Thank you so much, Dave! Always love your BSG videos and the (deserved) respect and love you give to the show. I did not know that leaving the show was a mutual decision, if not Maren’s alone. I always thought it was a one way decision on the part of the producers’. And it never occurred to me that Sheba might’ve been stepping in for Athena’s storylines. I’d just assumed Sheba was put on the show as a potential love interest for Apollo (and they did have some chemistry!). But with some retooling of the script, I can see how Athena could’ve been featured in some of those stories.

I don't know all of the details around Maren's departure and I must admit there is some speculation included in this video. Still, I would hope that her departure so late in the season would be a mutual decision. I suspect it was based upon the fact that she remained in the credits.

Battlestar Galactica was one of those programs that went through a few changes during it's one and only season. They were in a Phase where they were trying to figure out what sort of Stories worked for them. Eventually they knew that the audience wanted to see more of Apollo and Starbuck, and the women in their lives. Unfortunately, some of the other character's roles on the show became smaller, including Athena.
