Recently we found out what's quicker around a racetrack between a 2021 Mini John Cooper Works GP or the Renault Megane RS Trophy R.
Now, we have a head to head drag race with a best of 3 race between our favourite BBC Top Gear Stig ever, Ben Collins, who gets behind the wheel of the Mini GP3 and our man Tiff Needell in the Trophy R.
Manual gearbox vs automatic. Driver skill vs flappy paddles!

Ben and Tiff...now this is proper motoring. Next suggestion is to add short rolling races coming around that bend behind the starting line and nailing it side by side from one marker to reach another marker further down the track.

Two of the best drivers in the business in the hot hatches and you do a drag race. I mean , I REALLY want to love your content, I love the presenters, but who cares about drag races? Two cars that should be a riot to rock around and you only drive in a straight line. Hell, you could have taken a SUVs or minivans if you don't intend to use cars for an intended purpose. I really don't want to say this, but there are many missed opportunities of a proper head to head.

Ok. Now I got confused. How come sport mode is better than race mode? These guys from Renault. It was like suddenly the car woke up and just went off like "we have 3 minutes to catch that train". I was about to write that the torque really loses its effectiveness when the 3rd gear engages, but on the last run, everything was different. Still, Tiff made a great difference. It's not easy at all to get the best acceleration and get great gear change at the right rpm. That's why the manual is always the best. It's about working hard to get the best result.

Having a regular 2020 RS Megane manual I knew straight away it would be a struggle to win this in Damp conditions, surprised you did.
Drove a manual trophy, spun in 3rd in the wet. Great car, hugely engaging.

Two cars designed specifically to go around corners as quickly as possible....... tested for accelerating in a straight line instead. When will these tedious drag races ever end? Even IF there aren't any tracks open at the minute - throw some cones around a car park somewhere instead: these two cars are small enough to have a decent crack at it!
We did a full review and track test too. All 20 minutes of it. This tedious drag race is a bonus video that a lot of people enjoy. It's fair to say we have covered every single base with these cars and videos!

You can clearly see automatic is so much better nowadays. No need to fumble around with a gearstick and a clutch pedal. Especially in my daily car I will never go manual again. Love me some DSG.
